Weapon???
# Jun 09 2004 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
I just got this shield. I am currently using Sword of the Bloodsworn and Copper Hammer of Striking. I am wondering what a good weapon I can get that would be good to go with this shield that will give me a little more dps, not that dps matters, but I still would like to know. I saw this sword that was 16/20 and some stats on it for around 20k If anyone knows a good weapon a 64 War can get fairly easy with a group or 2 please let me know! thanks

if you want agro, go for bloodfrenzy or something with an anger proc on it. For now, go with the bloodsworn, the stun effect on it generates agro. Thats what im using with my zcb atm. Too bad my bash is only at 22 atm :P
lvl 1 warrior
# Apr 15 2004 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
i was curious if the focus effect would work on a lvl 1 warrior. So just incase anyone else was curious about lvl requirements for effect i thought i'd run a little experiment.

Saw one in bazaar for 1.5K, snatched it up, made me a lvl 1 ogre. At lvl 1 the effect does work when you wear it. It gives the message that the shield glows red..blah ..blah.. something or other. What i found intersting was that it proc'd at lvl 1, but yet warriors don't get bash till lvl 6. I don't know for sure if it was being triggered by the slam. As i ran my taunt/kick/slam all together on same hotkey and then spam it during fights.

it's not a proc but a focus effect ... FE's are like an innate ability ... it's always there when equiped

Thus, this works at lvl 1
"Spell" hate?
# Mar 30 2004 at 2:32 PM Rating: Decent
I was wondering about what it means when it says spell/bash hate. Does that include procs? I know if you are a caster and can crit on a proc if the weapon's proc is a spell you can cast.

So I was wondering if you had a hate wep in your primary, would this shield increase the amount of hate? I am thinking no because the ingenuity ability doesn't seem to affect hate procs. Personally, I like to use the shield to help with tanking and taunt/incite give me plenty of aggro tools. But as far as an extra aggro tool, the lack of DPS seems to be the main problem with using it.
My Opinion

With the new disc's for warriors to use to taunt and with old fashioned taunt and this shield I never lose agro....well maybe when the shammy slows too early that is about it.

bought it for 1.5k on 7th Hammer I think it is a heck of a deal. Please post if you use this I would love to see how it works for others

Easy Switch?
# Mar 19 2003 at 12:57 PM Rating: Default
I have a quick question. Could you give me details on how to setup an easy switch out system with a custom UI or even better with the default UI? Any help would be much appreciated.

To switch a shield with offhand weapons using the standard UI you can drag the 'offhand item' square from the inventory into one of your macro button positions. Then you drag your weapons bag picture from the inventory into an adjacent macro slot. To swap your offhand contents, click on the weapons bag to open it (move the bag close to your macro bar and 'lock' the bag window so it doesn't move around) and pick the item you want to swap, click on the offhand weapon macro button next and the contents of your hand will switch... now just put the old weapon back in the open bag and close the bag.
You don't have to open the bag - you can either leave it open the whole time if you arrange your UI well, or you can put the shield into the root slot where your weapons bag was and swap directly from there.
Just in case you don't know already... to get an inventory or item slot onto the macro bar, just open the inventory and left click on the thing you want to move, but hold the left mouse button down until the whole square will come up and onto your cursor.

Custom UI's normally do a very similar trick to this but they have the contents of their 'extra' buttons hardwired in the code. Sars 3.0 UI has a very detailed instruction file telling you how to alter the code, but unless you really need the extra button space I'd stick with the default UI for most things because you don't have to keep patching it every time EQ changes!

Would a Warrior able to get this have trouble holding agro and want it? Or would it help a main tank hold agro against a boss since it is unresistable? And would it be worth losing their off hand weapon's agro?

This is either a very nice item or utter junk for the level.

A warrior with this shield will not hold agro well at all, but if they pick up the FB 3 one from HoH or the FB4 one from BoT it would be very easy to maintain agro.. there is rumored to be up to FB7 shields out there.

I have the FB3 one from HoH and using it and a BoC in exp groups I hold agro well, but will loose it to a rogue in the beginning if they score a huge BS, your mileage may vary.

One thing to keep in mind as a warrior, when using these new shields, since your using only 1 weapon you take fewer riposte hits while still getting added agro from the shield effect.. down side is, if your a number cruncher your dps falls thru the floor.. but using a shield is not about DPS it's about defense

With the invent of the custom UI, it is very easy to switch this out with your secondary weapon just long enough to use your bash skill then switch out will very minimum loss in attack. Bards switch out instrument and weapons constantly, just about the same premis here. I use to switch out my 2hs weapons like this until the proc happens then switch back. Most times it happens so fast that most people never see it happen in the first place.

There seems to be no point in switching this out from looking at the FBII description... It says it increases bash hate by 20% for about 3 minutes - if you swap the shield back for a normal weapon you won't be bashing any more so the extra hate won't get applied.

If ogre/troll 'slam' counts as a bash for the extra hate it might still be worth doing though.

I use 2hs to minimise riposte damage in the very few situations where it's a problem. AA's seem to reduce riposte damage to a reasonable level for almost all normal encounters.

The only real use I can see for using a sheild is to reduce damage taken when /shield is used to protect a caster, however given the apparent hate increase from using this skill only the MA should use it in a raid, and the MA is used to getting beat on for the full amount of damage anyhow so why would he care?

The idea of switching it out is that you bash with the shield, then switch back to dual wield - until the bash button pops up again. Then swap it in, bash, swap out. You're not losing any bashes; you're just gaining the DPS from swapping the offhand weapon in there between bashes. And the swap can be done quickly enough that you don't lose any swings in between.
