Unless there is a language out there that you can't get from a trainer, I've got all the languages mastered. I did so exclusively for this charm.
A few things:
- The stats listed in the picture are the highest you can achieve as far as I know. Magelo lists every stat one higher, so there is a language I don't know about, SOE is intentionally leaving room to add more, or there is a snafu in the way the charm should be working. Since there are 10 exotic languages, I'm betting on the snafu.
- Only exotic languages matter, not the PC playable race languages. I was missing over half of the PC races when I got the highest stats that are possible and the charm did not change once I mastered them.
- The exotic languages that I'm fairly certain work on the charm are: Old Erudian, Elder Elvish, Goblin, Gnoll, Combine, Orcish, Elder Tier'Dal, Faerie, Dragon, and Elder Dragon.
- Dark Speech may or not be exotic, but only having mastery of that language and Troll did not affect the charm. If it is an exotic language, you need more than one to get any stats from the charm. Thieves Cant didn't seem to have an effect either.
- From these, I conclude that roughly each of the exotic languages I listed raises the charm's Cha and DR by one point, and every two exotic languages raises the Int/Wis by one point. I wish I had recorded the upgrades with screenshots to conclude this with absolute certainty, but I am reasonably certain that formula is the case.
- I'm reasonably confident there are only 25 languages that are learnable, as Magelo only lists 25 and Fippy lists 23 (with Common and Vah Shir not listed.)
- I haven't found a definitive link, but I believe Kobold used to be a language in the game, but it was removed from both trainers and players that had learned it.
"human" is listed as "common", even on pvp servers. But you take a faction hit for "human" when you kill them.
Have a screenshot that physically shows "human" in a list of languages?

Kobold used to be listed on trainers as Kobold, and on Players as Ancient Tier Dal. Now just Ancient Tier Dal on both.
Or maybe it was Ancient Erudan, I forget.
Been a while.

Thieves Cant could possibly be one of the exotic languages, but unfortunately, having it mastered does not raise the charm to the "final" stats listed in Magelo when all the others are mastered.
Pretty sure the charm is broken such that having the maximum stats is not possible.
Kobald and Giantish were removed from what i can tell. I didnt really pay attention to languages back in the early days, so im just going by what ive read.
I might be way off, but I don't think so. Combine refers to the Combine empire most likely, which as I recall is a Luclin thing--far after giants. But I kind of suck at remembering lore.
True, but the giants weren't part of the old Combine Empire. The dark races weren't part of it either as the empire was made up of light and neutral races. There was talk of inviting the dark races (dark elves, ogres, etc..) but that was never done as Seru launched his coup just before the meeting to decide weither to invite them or not.
Where are you finding all this lore? I'd love to read all the history that I 'missed'...espescially dealing with the cities on Luclin and how those came about, IE which were already there and which were transferred in the accident...
This charm would be great for me I think I'll go get it. I have over 18 lang's mastered including Elder Dragon and Dragon. If your 2boxing and board Langs are way easy to build all you need is 1 point in that lang so that it shows up in your chat menu. Select that lang, group with your alt of freind or who ever and program a hotkey for SPAM SPAM SPAM. Each line in the hot key program window should say something /g SPAM SPAM SPAM /g IS IT WORKING YET /g YOU ARE NOW LEARNING MY LANGUAGES Gratz and so on. 10min maybe a little more and your maxed. Move on to the next. I auction to get skill in the rare lang's (/aucation message) and all you need is one point in the lang to get started. Most pepole have no problems geting you to your 1st point.
OK..I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but hey...I gotta know. I have been aware of different laguages and that you can raise that skill by having someone spam you in a certain tongue. My questions are.
1. Is there a site or post that will explain language skill to me ? If so just post & save the keystrokes answering the rest of questions :).
2. I have noticed on my Mage that I have like a skill level 2 in Gnoll, and maybe like a 4 in Goblin. How the heck did I get that ? I have never trained in that skill. Is it from killin Gnolls in splitpaw and Goblins in HHK ?
3. If I indeed did pick up the 4 skill points by hunting these places ..how in the world do I become a Master in Goblin ?? Sit in HHK for like 2 months ?
4. If I am only a 4 in Goblin ..why is it I can see them say .."Smelly Creatures at my feet..me thinks you'll be good to eat" or whatever it is the HHK gobbies say ?..Why does it not show...A goblin speaks in an unknown tongue like it does if a Gnome speaks Gnomish to me ??
5. I know from my spell research that ORIGINALLY instructions were written in different languages and thus the purpose to learn different languages. With all the information now available via web sites ..what , besides the use of this charm, is the use of learning a different language? Will I fare better in the lower levels of Splitpaw when I can hear the Gnolls talking about the different recipes they have for HighElf souffle and the rest of my group is oblivious to that fact ?
Sorry for such a long post but as someone who has just decided to work up begging, just for the hell of it & to see what I can get from merchants, I am curious as to the language skill. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Seeing as how the two previous repliers didn't answer every question you asked, I'll try to answer them in an easier to manage format:
1. The language skill is just that: the skill at which you can speak in a certain language, or fluency. Just like Spanish or German class in high school, some people can only speak a small portion of the language and others are great at it.
2. As The One and Only xomano said before,
Quote:
Someone at some point has sent you a couple of tells in an unknown language and you have had to say, "What? I don't understand you."
(pardon me if I give it better grammar). Also, you can ONLY learn languages from people in your group, so you can't learn languages from enemies (Gnolls and Goblins, to be precise).
3. See #2.
4. Goblins can speak Common and Goblin, and maybe others (but they never speak other languages to PCs). They never even speak in their OWN language to PCs, *shrug*.
5. There isn't really a 'gotta have' attitude to languages, at least not anymore. I agree that there used to be a big thing about learning Dragon or Dark Speech and other hard languages to find, but they have been phased out over time. I wish that languages would be made more of a part of the game again on other servers, like on Firiona Vie. Maybe not have it that severe, but have non-human or half-elf characters start out with very few points in common, like 10-20, and work them up by speaking with more fluent peoples, but that's just me.
I hope this answers your questions and maybe helps out other people who have questions about languages. If you are still in the dark about languages, go to the Skill section and click on Languages. It will tell you all about them.
The only times you will increase in language skills is if someone talks to you or you speak in that said language.
It does not take much maybe 2 or 3 comments to get your first couple of skill points in any language. I probably have 3 languages below 10 atm and I am on AB not FV. It is something we do in guild when either camping a mob or just generally bored, whilst waiting for a raid to start.
So it could be that someone at some point has sent you a couple of tells in an unknown language and you have had to say, what I don't understand you.
there probably isnt that much of a use for languages anymore on the standard servers, but if you play on friona vei there isnt supposed to be a common. so i you want to talk to the human you just met you have to learn to speak his language.

there is no way this is common. i have killed luggalds down in the hatchery for a long time before ever getting this named guy to corpse spawn. and im sure his charm is the uncommon or rare drop as it is with the other charms in zone. I got lucky to get one of these last night, just need to practice my language skills now :P stats should be 10cha 5wis 5int 10svd, but thats with all languages maxed at lvl 65, lvl does matter i guess.
Common IS the Human language. On all servers except that Role Playing Server (forget what it's proper name is) all races started with some knowledge of Common. The Role Playing server is the only server where the human language (common) is restricted to humans when a character is made. So that 26 language, if it does exist, isn't the human one.

Charm of the Emerald Warrior : Improves as you increase your faction with the Emerald Warrior.. go clear crushbone for a bit and you can easily max this faction.. gobby's in BB I think work as well.

This is MAX? Well, as a druid I'm biased to the wisdom on it, but at least it has semi decent charisma 8) 9 points to it that wouldn't have been available before 8)
Grats!
Now if I could only train dragon and elder dragon up some more.

Posted:Mar 19 2003 at 9:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i have all languages mastered on one of my chars and for the amount of work it takes to train them up from 0 i really don't consider this one item to be worth the wait/work. i did all the languages within the first 2 weeks of retail release btw
I am trying to figure out this post. When you say "first 2 weeks of retail release", are you referring to to the release of LoY? In either case two weeks for mastering all languages sounds fairly easy to me. I have spent months just to do faction work to enter a city. In my opinion two weeks is nothing comparitively for earning extra stats in a new slot. Besides... with a high INT/WIS you can master most languages in an evening or two.
I had about one-third of the languages above 50 with a couple at master. My guild held a language class one night (this was good as we had many that had master in different languages. Took about four and a half to five hours to get three groups to master all languages.
Sorry for that silliness... but anyway, this thing is AWESOME for an enchanter. I have looked at a bunch of the other loot in Nadox and I am definitely going to get to 50+ in the fastest way just for this zone. SWEET.
