Hmph. Well?
# Oct 25 2004 at 11:41 AM Rating: Default
Most of the newbie quest tunics are AC12, and have at least five points worth of important stats.

All else being equal, then, your newbie quest chest piece will probably be a) attainable before level 15 and b) better than the Reserve Militia Tunic.

a- all of these items are droppable. two no rare pieces are requried. and 3 this quest is very old. noobies are now spoiled. they get an easy armor quests. they get a kobold skull charm as well as full stacks of food/drink. also they cant die and loose xp/corpse till 10. as well as now getting mem at one.

Many items that are NO DROP on most servers are tradeable on Firiona Vie, the roleplaying server. Thus they can have a price.
its NO DROP

all you girlie men must be playing on blue servers, because where i am, on the only good server, rallos zek, the item being NO DROP is the most important fact. looks : who cares (although it doesn't look bad) and, yes, the AC is a bit low once you pass 15ish, but it wont be looted, and in the long run, on a PvP server, that is the cats pajamas, since the next decent no drop breastplate is like lvl 30+ to obtain, and for a warrior on a PvP it is rather difficult without a group and or a ton of MR gear

Well I don't mean to be a brick but exactly what do I have to con to all the guards. I am very poor and would like the armor so much and I think I can get the rings soon but I can't afford to lose them if he decides not to give me the armor after I give the rings. also do I have to do the picks part first??? or just listen till he talkes about the rings? thanks all you heros

Here is my take after completing this quest:

-- Getting the Faction --
This is a great quest for bards who have scribed their level 11 song, Cinda's Charismatic Carillon. In order to raise your faction with Guard Valon, cast this song on him. He will then allow you to complete the quest (assuming you haven't done anything to _really_ hurt your faction with the corrupt guard).

-- Getting the Rings --
As stated in previous posts, it is a very doable quest. Often, you can group to hunt the Dervs in WC, preferably higher level groups than 11. Also, you can loot un-looted Derv corpses, because higher level characters find the Derv rings a bit annoying because they don't stack. All you need is 10 -- 2 for you to wear and 8 for the quest :).

-- Getting the Looks --
I also agree with the posts on the militia tunic being a cool item. I have had many comments from higher level characters remarking on the fashion sense of it and wondering what the stats are. Its cool to know that you "earned" it, and you do have to earn it because that is the only way to get it.

The only problem is that the tunic comes from the corrupt reserve militia. I have a little moral problem with wearing something from the corrupt guard, but it looks sooo good. However, has anyone run into any problems wearing this item? Can worn items cause faction conflicts with other NPCs? I haven't noticed anything, but I am not sure if I want to run into the FP Clerics Guild ;).

Happy Hunting!

About how hard is it to raise INDIFF?

I'm currently conning Indifferent to him, and want to get the tunic because I've got a ton of rings from camping Dervs for the last two levels, and would like to complete this for the sheer joy of completing a quest.

Was wondering about how much legwork it's going to take to raise my fac from Indiff to whatever if doing the Picks quest and/or some of the little quests in FP like Reby, Janam and Frinkiller.

Thanks for your time.

Hullo,
I am a Halfling (preferably Hobbit) Rogue. I right now am in the midst of this quest. However, I can never seem to get good enough faction. I have done the easy orc pick quest like 10 times, and still Guard Valon says "Maybe doing away with more orc pawns and bringing their picks to me, will incease my trust in you". I think I deserve his trust after fulfilling over 10 pick faction quest. BAH! Why do you think he dislikes me so much? Is it the whole height issue? Uh, cuz if it is that I'll flog him til his innards are his outtards and vice versa!!! Lol

banded
# Sep 25 2001 at 7:47 AM Rating: Default
ive spent 85pp to get to skill 67... most newbies can't afford that and i have run out of money... banded is not as easy as the quest is, but buying it from a master blacksmither is easy.
good for honest newbs!
# Sep 17 2001 at 11:46 AM Rating: Default
Tunic definitely gets my vote. As a newbie rogue i avoided being twinked as far as possible, to feel i'd actually achieved something on my own... as such i was *very* poor and very poorly equipped for the first 15-20 lvls! This tunic was the first decent bit of armour i got. Granted, it's worth about 16pp (2pp-ish per Derv ring at merch's) but at that level its good value for money, and i was way too poor get a decent smithing skill back then! Plus the added bonus of getting a lot of attention in the way of curious inspections.....

Actually, with alittle forehought this is a great Rogue tunic. The secret is to BS, evade, BS evade, and use any other dirty and underhanded trick you can do to lower your aggro. Of course the mob's gonna bite ya if your just sitting there Backstabing it! I have a dirty trick of my own but I'll let others try to figure it out.
good for a cleric?

i've been trying to do this quest, but fail all the time. i HAVE been told to go to valorn. i HAVE given him 4 orc picks after he gave me the quest, but i got no bag! then he started talking about [hunt dervish cutthroats], but when i ask about it he just sais something like "stay there! u are wanted by the militia". how can i get the bag and turn in the insignia rings??

presumably the higher than indiff is too keep people from doing it with sneak with low faction. Wolf form bring my iksar monk (normally dubious after lots of work) to amiable, and he gave me the token. Once I find wolf form in W FP, I'll see if he gives me the actual tunic. I want one just for show -- start off KOS, but now a member of the militia :)

Your faction is not well enough, you need to have higher then indifferent faction to do this quest
Rogues
# May 01 2001 at 4:36 AM Rating: Default
Actually AC is very impt to a rogue. I play one who recently attained 23 level and if it weren't for AC (even when I'm grouped) I'd die alot more often than I do. Alot of times it's hard to taunt the beasts off of me and it's also tough to evade cause I backstab for so much..(i guess)
worth it.
# Apr 28 2001 at 11:11 AM Rating: Default
after playing many bards for many lvls. all I can say is we get the best AC armor in the game. kinda sucks as bards are not tanks. Now that bards also get the same defence rating as warriors we can concentrate on getting pure dex items to help us with missed notes, and keep our songs up. I for one trust any lowbie bard that wears this over banded
Ugly stats
# Apr 24 2001 at 11:33 PM Rating: Default
there's only one reason to do this quest: faction
to a lvl 8 the reward may seem sweet but it's really a load of crap. Even if you did get it at lvl 10. By lvl 10-13 you should already have a good deal of banded. If you have other chars just twink em up or give em a little cash to buy some armor. You can worry about looking good AND having good armor stats when you can afford it or are high enough. Until then just wear what works best is what I say.

Guess what! Hehe this is perfect for a newbie of any class available. And if banded is SSSSSSSOOOOOOO good, make yourself some... you'll see that it's HARD to raise smithing. So everyone should have their own tastes in armor.
BTW, with an AC of 9 and +3 Dex this thing rules until lvl.15 or so...
RE: Ugly stats
# Jul 02 2001 at 3:36 PM Rating: Default
Getting to the point to make banded is not that hard it took my 5 hours or so to get to the poing i could make it.
RE: Ugly stats
# Apr 05 2002 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
However, getting to the poiint to make all pieces of banded is gonna take close to 500 plat which mosssst newbies will not see for a long time.

I do agree though that this armor is crap for the level to attain, By this time you should at least be able to buy a Banded BP, the 6 AC at this level is much better than the 3 dex. Especcially on a BP

if your a monk this tunic would be too heavy, 5 pounds is a lot considering you have to weigh 14 or less.. It looks like a bloodstained tunic, thats probably why everyone inspects those who have it, cuz they think its the 300pp+ tunic. but its only an imitation.. I would go for banded til ya can afford the good looking real stuff..AC is very important and not just for Soloing!
RE: Divi
# Apr 12 2001 at 3:45 AM Rating: Decent
I just like to point out he said lower level monk.... at the lower levels wieghing over 14 is not a big deal.

For rogues ac is not that imporant....rogues aren't suppose to have aggro. There BS is pretty much useless if they can't BACKstab.
RE: Divi
# May 29 2003 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default
your wrong about monks, they can carry as much as there strength will alow.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh....NO...if you go over 14 pounds you lose AC..so YOU are incorrect....they may be able to carry as much as their strength allows...but they lose AC for doing so
AC
# Apr 12 2001 at 3:52 AM Rating: Default
thats not true.. AC is very important to rogues as well as tanks, Back stab and the high DMG a rogue deals is more often then not a taunt in itself.. i played a rogue for a while and sometimes the tanks couldn't taunt them off me.. the added AC on items absorbs more dmg, its worth it

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 24 2000 at 7:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Like the rewards for many quests, this one sucks rocks. You can actually complete this quest by getting in a Derv Group around level 10 - 15. However, by levle 10 you really should have saved up and bought a banded tunic (15AC for 15pp) by now

I like split paw hide tunic better at low levels. I find in East commons, with all the poison snakes, spiders and such, a +10 sv poison is more important than +3 dex, plus the split paw is lighter! (4 lb vs 5 for this). And since my chars a cleric, it wouldn't do to cheese off priests and pallys in north freeport! I still wear the split paw at level 13!
RE: Crap
# Dec 26 2000 at 2:58 PM Rating: Default
Yea, but lower lvs can do the quest too. Especially rogues with the sneak/hide ability. I did the quest around lv 10. Had to go to W commons about 20 time while encumbered, but it was worth it in the end. For the rings, I just went into N ro and asked people if they could give me the rings that drop. Most of them did, the others I just bought. So it's not crap to me. I'd rather have this on my rogue at lv 10 - 15 any day rather than banded, as the extra ac probally won't mean much difference in a fight unless I'm solo.

personally i like this tunic i got it about a week ago. Its lightweight and looks cool! people are always inspecting me to see what it is..and yoiu dont see to many others wearing it ..actually i havent seen any yet! Nice tunic ok AC..best of all light weight! Good luck

NOT crap to a lower lvl monk! A 9AC tunic that adds +3 dex and only weighs 5 is pretty good. Not as light as raw silk (6AC .4 weight i think) but still great. The rings are the only tough part. But for monks, who don't need that much money, you can buy them for 1pp each (at least on Tholuxe Paells) and i would spend 8pp or more for the tunic.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 16 2001 at 4:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 4 weight is way too much for a monk. And why did you compare to raw silk? its ac sucks and it also weighs too much for a monk. You should have compared to Wu's Fighting Armor. it is 0.1 weight each and 1 ac better than cured silk armor. It also has agility

Plus for any fashion concious types, this is a good looking tunic. My half elf rogue got this thing and it looks totally awesome on him. the rest of the armor he wears is banded which on a half elf looks very good and the red tunic looks great with it. Coupled with a Rubicite helm (don't ask, Im just lucky), this guy doesn't want to hide because he looks so good.
