Terrible camp - 3 days in Gunthak around the fort - nothing even after about 8 lvl gain - changed to Dulaks Harbor and killed 3 times the complete ship cycle - nothing. After the 4th time I was lucky. I agree - thats not game play - thats pure stubbornness that let you get some quests done.

I also got the medallion about 5mins ago off of a Harbor Fisherman. I thnik any mob in the zone will drop it. Just waiting for the right one can be pain staking. Good Luck!
"A troll pillager" in Gunthak is confirmed to drop this.
My 46 pally tried getting this piece at fort for a good many levels . . . started in Gunthak at 32 since it is a current hotspot and started at fort since 37-38. With a level group would clear as many of the mobs as possible. Over many hours and kills at fort did not get one black medallion to drop.
Took my 70 necro to fort during the dead (no pun intended) hours between play times on our server and had it drop fairly soonish (around 60-90 minutes, I didn't time it) off the pillager after clearing the outside of fort completely of all mobs for 3 pop cycles.
Before this, went with friends in a level group with the pally to Dulak and cleared piers and Stormwave. One of my friends boxed a 70 at the same time and cleared three other piers/ships and turned up nothing. At the end of that day we have 7 deepwater elbems rot but not 1 black to show for the effort. This leads me to believe that perhaps the black medallion is not a "common" drop as I would define common.
Personally, with all the time I have spent trying to get the black medallion, I have helped 6 clerics on my server get temp (either getting the deepwater elbem and/or actually in group with them waiting on the female erudite spirit).
For some people, the black seems easy to get . . . "I killed 3 and got it!" and from what I read on posts here, there are people like me who have to struggle ad nasuem without any result to show for it or have to result to out of character to get a needed piece at
level(ish). A challenge is one thing . . . endless farming a piece is quite another.

I have read all these posts and was determind to find this item ASAP. In Dulak's Harbor, on doc for first boat on your right, in my first 3 kills, 2- Black medallion's dropped, and 1 of those emblem necklace's for the cleric quest. Me and my cleric pal were quite amazed. I "ooc'ed" a dozen times adount the 2nd medallion drop and rotting on corpse, but I got no replies. I am currently helping other people in getting their quest items, since I have personally found them both.
The xp is really good, so have no problem sticking around for awhile. Send me a tell (Scumtrond, Bertoxx server)and I will help anyway possible.

Ok hae this to say about this fabled item. I have never seen it and I do have a life away from everquest that requires my time. I have been trying to find this particular item for 3 months averaging about 30 hours a week looking for it. It is never around when I need it. This is definatley to rare of an item. Yes I have killed all of the suggested mobs. Here is the list of the numbers of each I have killed. Started looking for this when I was lvl 39. I am now level 51!!

Had the medallion drop off of A Troll Marauder ... could be that the Marauder beat up the Plunderer and stole his medallion, hehehe
I am not sure where the Marauder was, because a couple people next to me pulled it. We were both (groups) at the mouth of the village are where the tunnel leads to the trolls, erudites, and such so it was close to they are I think.
I got very lucky ... I zoned into Gunthak to LFG and see about camping the Plunderer, and a guildy of mine was in there PLing his alt so he started to PL me at the same time because noone was LFM. We started near Nadox, then worked our way toward the camp. Got there after clearing the tunnel mobs and there were people there so I sent a tell asking about the medallion...no luck. So I started pulling my side and 15 minutes or so later, I get a tell that the medallion was rotting!!! WOOT! It was on the Plunderer /shrug
Then they trained us and I had to run my little flippers off and come back and rez his alt ... but that was okay - I was too happy to care and so was he! Then I was at the bank about to log out when he told me the male erudite was up!!! WOW my luck was good. Went back and handed in the medallion, after mistaking the female erudite for the mob he was talking about (I thought they spawned in the same spot, had not read that far yet).
I am 37 now, cannot wait to make use of this sometime soon :o)

I have had 5 drop in the last hour and a half. The seem to drop very regularly on the two EMPTY (no ship) docks.
Dropped off "a harbor fisherman" on the dock leading to the Lady D ship.
I found that at /ooc Paying 50pp for rite to loot . Got it for me real quick.If al else fails try it.

Finally aquired this after many many hours of camping the "Boat Engineers" in Dulak. Just kept going around to all the docks, on the lower end of map, and sung "Lambrious lament"(sp?) on all mobs except the boat engineers and then kited them. If you are going to kite, calm all mobs esp. roaming guards. Finally dropped off of Boat engineer standing at the edge of a dock with one other mob. Did all of this with a 46 bard for my sisters alt (which was camped in the area to loot) Hope this helps. If it doesn't drop, just keep killing the boat engineers on the docks. I camped them long enough to get a levels' worth of exp and plenty of plat.

I think these guys are a little higher than 37/37. They con high blue to my 50 Pally, and despite my 28DPS, they're quite tough to take down.

Read all the posts and the listing itself and it sums up to this; medallion drops from :
1. Troll Plunderers in Gunthak;[/puprle] not pillagers or mystic just Plunderers. (so option one have lots of cloudy potions or someone to re-invis. you lots; an run around invised looking specifically for these little guys in the fort area of Gunthak.)
2. [red]Any1 on any dock will do : (IN DULAK) according to other posts it will drop off anyguy standing on a dock. not a boat, or the town but on any dock. (This would include: Fisherman, Engineers, Dock Scrubbers.) It is also good to note all these guys were indifferent; save when chasing a runaway shiphand which fighting something else on the docks will agro them. BUT you should be able to pretty easily go dock to dock killing them all and get drop pretty quick. as opposed to spending days killing just fisherman or just engineers.

Just wanted to confirm the above post. I had a black medallion drop from a boat scrubber today. Camped the first 3 docks for about 1 hour.
I was in Dulak last night and the medallion dropped 3 times over a 5 hour period near the Dandolin Boat Dock.

I have seen this Black Medallion drop off of the walkers, specifically the dock guardians, average rate of drop in my experience camping zone for 8 hours average is once every other day. so it may take you a couple days to get one of these.

I've yet to see it, so here's my result of doing the complete quest:
It wasn't that difficult, and I solo'd the whole thing. Keep in mind, that I had plenty of Cloudy Potions (inviso) and Kei cast on me. 10x Blood of Wolf Potion and Divine Aura memmed. ...here we go:
I camped Dulak. Roaming from dock to dock killing every boat engineer I found (gnomes or haflings---cant' keep ya straight). I'd use a CP potion, get in front of the mob, or stratigically located so I wouldn't grab additional aggro. This took me about 10 hours (broken time). After a kill with no result, heal, inviso, move to next...repeat. After dropping, I inviso'd and ran back to Millius Darkwater on the dock to do turn-in. From there, I re-inviso'd and went to Neg 1100, Neg 1100 on the beach. Should have done Inv vs Undead, as the mobs on that side are all skelly's and undead. After killing 6 green mobs on me, I sat on top of the rock and waited for the Male Eurdite Ghost to spawn (respawn is 20min). While waiting, save yourself some headache and kill the skelly mobs that spawn around the double neg 1100 area.
The Male Erudite Ghost spawned and I handed him my black skull necklace and received 1x Ethereal Cleansing spell and 1x Glowing Black Skull Necklace.
Here comes the "tricky" part....
Being solo, my strategy was to run to Chester inviso'd, pacify the mobs around him, and do my turn-in. I knew he attacks after turn-in and had no idea what he casted/meleed for, so I memmed Divine Aura. I figured I'd hit that, and run like heck to zoneline with my "train" hotkey spamming away. ...the actual account is coming...
Chester is a male ghost that spawns in the tunnels behind the hidden wall in Dulak. Once inside Dulak, follow the left wall around to the wood wall.....the secret tunnel is about 2/3 across from the left. Once inside the tunnel, follow it straight to the rock bridge....don't fall in. (I haven't, and don't know how bad your CR would be). Make a right at the "T" intersection on the bridge. You'll come up on a stairway down with an open doorway to the left. I've found Chester on those stairs, as well as the two other rooms that the stairs lead to.
Ok...so here's where plan and actual go slightly askew. In my previous 10x in that room, Chester doesn't move when you approach him. Evidently, he senses you want to do a turn in, and starts moving out of the rooms, up the stairs and down the tunnel back towards the bridge. The funny part is that he's moving past about 15 mobs in his travel... I got into the room and started chasing him with medallion in hand. The problem with this is that by him moving, I was unable to establish a safe spot to pacify the mobs and move in. Thus, I panic'd at him moving, and immediately started clicking on him with my medallion in hand. ....This nullified my inviso, and my aggro went thru the roof. When I finally got the "Give" window to pop up on Chester, I was waaay back at the bridge, with 10-15 mobs beating on me, and my health bar quickly fading to "you are out of food and water" status.
I hit GIVE just in time and got my spell! Immediately, I hit LoH, cast Divine Aura, and started running to the zoneline.....spamming all the way.
In hindsight, a little agonizing watching Chester on the move, but the end result is that I completed this quest solo at 52. And, can tell you all where all the loot for the 2 spell prizes are!

Had one drop of a Harbor Fisherman on dock at Dandolak boat. Only one that dropped and I was soloing for about 5 hours today if that tells you how rare it is. Had 4 of the cleric drop, deepwater something i think.

I was helping a Paladin friend of mine check on a tip in Dulak. We read to look for Dock Scrubbers. You can find them either down on the docks next to the boats or up around the entrances that lead down that way. Took us about 2 hours but it finally dropped for us. Good luck. :-)

Spent about 5 days, 2-5 hours per day killing gnome engineers on the docks in Dulak's Harbor. Finally killed one with a black medallion. As I was in the process of looting, the zone went down, supposedly due to a bug involving a high level mob that, if not killed within a set time of being spawned, will despawn, crashing the zone. Needless to say by the time I got back on, the whole zone appeared to have been reset. Anyway, after another 5+ hour day, finally saw another drop and looted. I would have to say this item is very rare, perhaps a bit too rare.
Spent about 4 hours helping a pally try to get this to drop outside the fort in Gunthak in the cave area. Whouldn't you know it about 10 kills after he left one dropped! He wasn't on and not another pally in the zone!

This seems to drop like candy in Dulak. Had two drop off second boat area.
Excellent post.Tells you exactly what mob drops them and where they are.Good job.....not.
