Done the First part of the quest, Ethereal Cleansing, then 4 lvls later and about 4 6 months later, I done the part for Light of Life, easy as cake, bribed a druid for a port to stonebrunt, bought two invis potions, ran to dulak zone, pulled a train, called it a few times. Used potion, walk to spawning place and there he sat, in a corner all by his lonesome. Did turn in he aggro'd, could have taken him at lvl 56 but when I got an add I hit divine aura tuck tail and ran like a scalded dog, pulled another train, called it and said sorry. Got the spell though woot. Pally power!

Just a bit about this quest...

First off, I simply could not have done this quest without the help of some guild mates. I would suggest getting help if at all possible. One lvl50+ druid would be of invaluable service for the invis, tracking, and heals. I had much more help as described below.

The black medallion can drop in either the fort area in Gunthak, or off the mobs on the docks in Dulak...I looted mine from a mob near the fort in Gunthak. I've read the only mobs in the fort that drop the medallion are the troll pillagers and marauders, not sure on that but mine dropped off a troll pillager.

I had some guild mates of mine with me most of the time, a 65 necro, 61 druid, 52 druid, 52 chanter, not all at once, but at random throughout my two days of trying to get the black medallion.

The fort area is heavily populated with mobs, so agro can get intense if you aren't careful. I "camped" the fort for two days, and did OOC in Dulak as the pain of getting to and from the docks as a lvl53 pally is, imho, just not worth it. Almost all the mobs in the fort area are lt blue to me, but can still do damage because normally more than one will agro. I never did see the drop happen in Dulak, but I know it drops there because I've seen them drop while camping there with my 55 necro.

Once the medallion did drop, the rest was a cakewalk with the exception of Chester. I got a little lucky I guess, the male erudite spirit was up when I did the hand in to Darkwater at the LH. Ran/swam over to beach area, got agro from several mobs, but many are green with a smattering of lt blue, so not difficult as long as taken one or two at a time. I did the turn in and received the spell.

At this point, I got a few guild mates to come with me for the turn in to chester. The 65 necro came with me, so the turn in was a cakewalk. From my time in the area playing my necro, I know that Chester wanders, but he was right up top and a group of people were camping the soulstripper, so the area was clear. I did the turn in and the necro wiped Chester inside of 15 seconds.

I completed the quest with ease. Buy 2 Invis potions off of the Gnome in the lighthouse (10p) then you can run to Dulak. Just be careful of the undead on the beach. There is a path through without agging them. From the tunnel on no one can see invis, so your homefree.
When you get to Dulak, your potion should still be good. Go to the dock west of Stormwave. Go to the end to the last right hand post as your facing out. You can buff and heal there without agging.
Then just start killing from the end of pier back to top of pier. There are 4 mobs. All can drop the medallion. Use pacify on the Engineer and scrubber as they are close to one another til the spawn is broke.

I am a 53 Pally and I can solo this dock with ease, no kei, all self buffed.

I just completed my Ethereal Cleansing quest on Tholuxe Paells :) I wanted to pass along a word of caution.

After 8 irritating hours of camping the roamer, I decided to work my way down the stairway and into the two rooms below, where I found Chester Steelblade in the very back room. (sigh..go fig)

Suggestion: Before you start the quest , buy an invisibility potion or two. Scout out the lower room's first , then if he is not up , proceed to kill "roamer" and friend's. Hope that help's!

Quest Recap
# May 02 2003 at 11:17 AM Rating: Decent
I've yet to see it, so here's my result of doing the complete quest:

It wasn't that difficult, and I solo'd the whole thing. Keep in mind, that I had plenty of Cloudy Potions (inviso) and Kei cast on me. 10x Blood of Wolf Potion and Divine Aura memmed. ...here we go:

I camped Dulak. Roaming from dock to dock killing every boat engineer I found (gnomes or haflings---cant' keep ya straight). I'd use a CP potion, get in front of the mob, or stratigically located so I wouldn't grab additional aggro. This took me about 10 hours (broken time). After a kill with no result, heal, inviso, move to next...repeat.
After finally dropping, I inviso'd and ran back to Millius Darkwater near the lighthouse in Gunthak to do turn-in. From there, I re-inviso'd and went to Neg 1100, Neg 1100 on the beach.
(Should have done Inv vs Undead, as the mobs on that side are all skelly's and undead.)

After killing 6 green mobs on me, I sat on top of the rock and waited for the Male Eurdite Ghost to spawn (respawn is 20min). While waiting, save yourself some headache and kill the skelly mobs that spawn around the double neg 1100 area.
The Male Erudite Ghost spawned and I handed him my black skull necklace and received 1x Ethereal Cleansing spell and 1x Glowing Black Skull Necklace.
Here comes the "tricky" part....
Being solo, my strategy was to run to Chester inviso'd, pacify the mobs around him, and do my turn-in. I knew he attacks after the turn-in and had no idea what he casted/meleed for. So I memmed Divine Aura. I figured I'd hit that, and run like heck to zoneline with my "train" hotkey spamming away. ...the actual account is coming...

Chester is a male ghost that spawns in the tunnels behind the hidden wall in Dulak. Once inside Dulak, follow the left wall around to the wood wall.....the secret tunnel is about 2/3 across from the left. Once inside the tunnel, follow it straight to the rock bridge....don't fall in. (I haven't, and don't know how bad your CR would be). Make a right at the "T" intersection on the bridge. You'll come up on a stairway down with an open doorway to the left. I've found Chester on those stairs, as well as the two other rooms that the stairs lead to.

Ok...so here's where plan and actual go slightly askew. In my previous 10x in that room, Chester doesn't move when you approach him, and he's always been in one of those 3 spots, so PH stuff may be off.
Evidently, he senses you want to do a turn in, to my shock and surprise, and starts moving out of the rooms, up the stairs and down the tunnel back towards the bridge (Wonder if rooting him would have worked???) The funny part is that he's moving past about 15 mobs in his travel... I got into the room and started chasing him with medallion in hand. The problem with this is that by him moving, I was unable to establish a safe spot to pacify the mobs and move in.
Thus, I panic'd at him goin on the move, and immediately started clicking on him with my medallion in hand. ....This nullified my inviso, and my aggro went thru the roof.
When I finally got the "Give" window to pop up on Chester, I was waaay back at the bridge, with 10-15 mobs beating on me, and my health bar quickly fading to "you are out of food and water" status.
I hit GIVE just in time and got my Light of Life spell! WHEW!!!
Immediately, I hit LoH, cast Divine Aura, and started running to the zoneline.....spamming all the way.

In hindsight, a little agonizing watching Chester on the move, but the end result is that I completed this quest solo at 52. And, can tell you all where all the loot for the 2 spell prizes are!

If you really wanna have an easy time with Chester, take a Chanter with you. When you turn in the medallion and her starts to attack, have the Chanter Mem Blur him. Works like a charm.

Chester didn't sense you were turning the medallion. He is a naturally wandering mob. He walks up to the bridge pauses for a little bit then walks back. His PH does it too. I know this from camping the Soulstripper guy for 7 hours.
RE: Quest Recap

The roaming Luggald is not always the PH for Chester. When I did the turn-in Chester spawned on the left-hand ledge where the stairs go down. The roaming mob was up along with the static mob at the bottom of the stairs and the mob on the right-hand ledge.

I ran up, turned in my medallion, got the spell and ran out...the pathing was still quite bad in LoY zones at that time so I easily left the train behind.

The last time I was in Dulak to camp Soulstripper, Chester was standing in the spot where the static spawn is at the bottom of the stairs, and the roaming mob was walking back and forth past him, at least until we killed him.

Happy hunting!
crate of supplies
# Apr 17 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Friend handed in to Chester and got the spell, but he also got a "crate of supplies". I have seen those drop off of other mobs as well. Does anyone know what it is for?

BTW, 51 Ranger, 51 Paladin, 44 cleric took Chester on no problem

He did'nt get the crate of supplies from Chester. The supplies drop off of random mobs.

Chester finally spawned for me today... but I only got him because the group that was there as I and my 60 monk friend arrived had to gate out. Ten minutes later, Chester came floating up the stairs.

Hailed him, gave him the necklace, he attacked, so I rooted him and told my friend to back off. Didn't work. 60 epic monk tried to take him, but couldn't, so he FDed and had me run for the zone.

And of course, when I did that, I had to run back through the full spawn... I prolly had at least 15 mobs behind me...

When I got to Gunthak, I considered running back to the lighthouse hoping my invis potions worked, then decided it wasn't worth the risk of causing another major train, and pulled out my little blue friend I keep in my pack...

I was never so glad to see Thurgadin.

But on the bright side, I never have to go in those zones again.
Couple points to sum up:

1. Chester DOES exist.
2. He might not poof if you root and run.
3. A 60 epic monk and 56 paladin cannot kill him.
4. There is always a full spawn when you're running for your life.
LoL quest solved

Sorry I don't have all the info on this but here is what I know:

1. Chester Steelblade is in a secret cave system in Dulak's Harbor.

2. You get into the caves by going through a secret entrance in or around the deserted lighthouse in Dulak's Harbor.

3. Chester spawns and roams around in the caves and will attack you after you give him the medallion and he gives you the spell. Apparently if you root him and back off he will then despawn. Cons blue to level 53.

4. The caves are occupied by Luggalds.

5. Go here to read more. Just read through the thread to find the info on LoL even though the thread is based on Ethereal Cleansing.

Can't wait to get mine!

Is the recover time and more hp (10) the only ways this spell is better than the 44 LoY spell, if so this spell is crap, why not use the other one instead?
RE: Spells
# Feb 27 2003 at 3:26 PM Rating: Decent
The best thing about this spell is that it is a fast cast spell. The lvl 44 spell is really only useful for extended downtime when you can wait the 24 seconds for the spell to run its course, or to cast just before engaging a mob. This baby hits fast and personally makes me very happy.

I also turned in an emblem (which dropped off the mauraders in the zone) and got the same message. Hailing him again had no effect, but he definitly asked for the emblem. Talked to a GM who said bug it.

There are 2 NPC's under broken ship hulls between the lighthouse and the beach. One is a mermaid and one is a sailor spirit. Loc is about 260, 12, -144. Might be related to these quests.
Continuation of the Etherial Cleansing quest

Hi everyone,

At this point the speculation is that this quest is a continuation of the Etherial Cleansing quest which has now been solved.
quest appears to be broken
# Feb 25 2003 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
i did this quest and at the moment at least it apears to be broken

the last line of the script is that he at least wants to return the lost dweepwater emblem to that erden

the deepwater emblem drops off of random crap in the cave in the fort type area with the pirates

i turned it in to him and go nothing an "appears that he is to busy" message

several others had this problem too

it is possible this is not a bug but he dose not ask for any thing els and every thing else you give him he will give back

hopefully they fix this or tonight i can figure out how to make him take it

he coned indifferent at that time

Did you try hailing him again?

Some of the new quests you don't turn the item in, but keep it in your possession and hail the NPC for the "flag" (or whatever)....

Just a thought, or it could be broken

This is definately some sory of a paladin quest, but if it leads to the spells, im not sure. When I hailed him last night, he spoke of a missing girl, and a key, now weather or not this leads to the spells, im unsure as his tale ends without giving many clues. Ill post when I find out more!

new Pally spells
# Feb 24 2003 at 11:19 PM Rating: Excellent
The new spells are all gotten via quests in Gunthak...the Pally quest giver is a Deepwater Knight named Darrius or something and he is standing on the edge of the cliffs by the light house. Just look for the Erudite in the bright shiny armor. You'll know it's him when he talks to you about a cavalier named Chester that went missing while trying to discover Broken Rock.

I haven't done the quests yet but I have spoken with him and I have to find information about an Erudite cleric named Alina Crystalia.

Wish me luck!
