Long wait...

Greetings,
I spent a few days in this miserable place and saw just about everything that drops in here before I finally got the powder. I leveled my BL from 49 to 53 in this dump! LMAO I finally got the powder off a bruiser right near the zone to Dulak (surprise, surprise). I just wanted to confirm that this DOES still drop because I was really beginning to wonder after how long it too to get it.

The Bond of the Wild quest was a cake walk in comparison, I got that done in about an hour; I probably spent over 12 hours in that other j@ck@*** zone! LOL

~Qinju 53 BL / FV

PS: The spell is not no-trade on FV server, that was the first thing I checked when I got it.

Yeah, been in here for a few hours now, killed about 30 or so still no drop for the powder, i am a lvl 64 SK, and i just drag the mobs back to ZL where my BST is camped. But anything you do bring back to ZL where the resistance miner is, will run LOL learned the hard way. Also it is very true the drop rate is random, if rare.

Powder dropped for me on the second bruiser I killed. However, I couldn't get the injured wolf to spawn at all. My group killed around the fort for almost 4 hours trying to spawn it with no luck.

Is there a trick to spawning the wolf?

Soloable but not easy

It can be soloed but it's not easy. What I did was to use invis and sneak around the tunnels until I can find a spot with resistance miner near the brusier and start a battle there. Do avoid being close to other miner or you'd have a crowd control issue. With the resistance miner nearby, the brusier usually won't run when low on health.

When I fought, I let my pet do the tanking and I cast DoT and DD while casting pet heal until it's down to about 20% then I go in for the kill.

I have killed 15 or so before I got the powder. I started looking for at 48 and got it at 56.

This spell can stack with another DoT spell (Venom of the Snake) and does a total of 450 damage
Rare drop

Just had to post my frustration here. I'm level 59 Bst and have been hunting in torgiran now since about level 48. I have never seen the STRANGE DARK POWDER drop not black powder.black powder is a MM LDoN common drop and has nothin to do with this quest. It is definetly a rare drop and just cause you got lucky and found one on your 3rd try doesnt mean its an easy find most Bst's I know on my server still dont have it all are above 44th level.Anyway back to the Mines I go :P Good luck to all who are trying to find this.
XP reward

I'll never understand why the quest is arranged such that you get a level 52 spell first, and the 44 level spell is actually harder to get.

Anyway, I was soloing as a 61 bst in Torgarin and the dark powder dropped, so I figured what the hey I would get the spell anyway. When I did the turn in, I got half a blue bubble or so of XP, so, not a bad deal, actually.

I tried to hand in a second one and got another spell but no XP :(
drop times
# May 05 2004 at 7:10 AM Rating: Default
The drop rate for the strange dark powder is very random. It is even more random than any other drop I've seen. I camped the bruisers with a 52lvl cleric friend for over 4 hours and not one dropped. I went there on a guild field trip <wink> and killed 20-30 or so and nothing. I went in there yesterday and found one on the first bruiser I killed. A guildie told me that he started looking for it at lvl 50 and he ended up 62 before it ever dropped for him. But he did admit that he stopped looking for it for a little while.
Got it at 53

Hey all. When I was level 48 some guildies and me killed like 30 bruisers and no powder dropped from me.

I am now level 53 and can solo these guys. But sometimes it was a really close fight.

Well, what shall I say. The 3rd bruiser dropped the powder. I am happy now.

I was fighting the spawn you run into when coming from Dulak.

To bsty's trying to get this spell:

Stay away from it. At least till lvl 52+. And you'll need some decent back up.

At lvl 44 on my bsty, I had a 40th druid helping me out. Best I was able to do was get the bruiser down to 42%. If we had a cleric doing heals, then we might have been able to kill one... after EVERY ONE used all their mana. If possible, get a full group of 45+'s and head in there to get this stuff. Otherwise, don't waste your time like I did. ;p

Btw Besty was geared the following:

Wields:
Architects Scepter Primary
Gold Inlaid Ulak Offhand

str: 228 (w/ self buff)
sta: 153 (gear only)
agil: 115 (gear only)
dex: 166 (w/ self buff)
Wis: 127 (gear only)

HP: 1639
AC: 779
attk: 923

only other buff was druids:
Skin Like Diamond

Just to give you an idea what kinda lvl 44 bsty we're talking about.

I just finished helping a bst get this powder.
It didn't seem to be THAT rare of a drop. We got it off the 7th-10th bruiser we killed.
If you can, bring a 60+ person with you to pull, they can run around and look for bruisers and single pull them without worrying about annoying miner adds.
Also, you're better off roaming the tunnels rather than camping the zone since the bruisers spawn in the tunnels and tend to roam.
Regarding spell usefulness, it's another dot you can lay onto a mob. Stack it with your poison dots and plague if you have it and you get more dps. Simple as that.

Ok, anyone have any clue about the rate of drop for the black powder I have now been into the Torgiran Mines three times on killing sprees that last no less than 4 hrs and have yet to see any sign of the black powder. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated, thanks tons

I was also in Tor. mines for 12 hours strait at the longest, going on 4 hours right now. Only able to kill the 1st 2, maybe 3 Bruisers sometimes at the most... not a single sign of the black powder, while I hear others getting theirs on their 8th or 10th kill... hm.

Unfortunate for many I have had the black powder drop semi-frequently whilst in the zone but never ever been another BL in the zone to loot.

Most of the times it has dropped its been near the entrance to the zone (Dulak) and it has been a few mobs in. But this is a rare drop so you've got to be prepared for it, generally I would come here to solo for exp and if it drops I would be happy. This way saves a lot of agro later on as well. To me the drop rate seemed very similar to that of the "Grobb" mask and head slot when I was exping here.

I have a 40 beastlord, and he has done the 52 spell already, i was looking forward to getting malaria because i am a big fan of dotting my foes in combat, especially since i solo alot, and dotting the lizard things in the caves are insential to killing them. malaria would of been a big help, but because of Verant messing that crap up, i proubly wont get malaria till i am already up with a bigger better dot
Drop location
# Feb 28 2003 at 12:40 PM Rating: Default
Ok, the injured wolf is used for Spirit of the Wild or whatever (lvl 52 spell), but for Malaria, you do need to go to Toragin Mines (end of the Gunthak tunnels, past the little village, into Dulak, hang a left, climb the ladder, zone into Toragin).

Random miners and guards will drop 'a black powder' BST ALL NO DROP. This is the stuff. Take it back to Mr. No-Speaka-da-Engrish and you get your level 44 spell. Awesome how they make a level 52 spell soloable and easy to get, but a level 44 spell you need a full 50s to 60s group to get.

I wonder if Verant will realize their mistake and switch the spell rewards. I sent them feedback, but sometimes I think they just ignore alot of that. It's obvious that Verant screwed up with the implementation of these spell quests. At least you don't get necro spells when you complete these quests.
RE: Drop location
# Mar 03 2003 at 12:01 AM Rating: Default
Won't matter to me, I have the 52 one already. Would only make it easier. Somehow I doubt SONY (since Verant doesn't run things anymore) will do anything about it. In my opinion, while BotW is nice, Malaria is better for those with Sha's but without Plague yet. Everyone with Sha's I've talked to said they won't use BotW unless farming.
This spell has awesome effects

The spell effects on this spell are awesome...wait till you get it. You remember smoke from Mortal Kombat with his puffs of smoke coming off him? Well that is what the spell effects look like but they are black puffs or Malaria muhahaha, also watch your hands when you begin casting...sweet!

If you talk to the Beastlord , on Lighthouse Island , Caegdin Cold....., He can not talk but draws pictures. after hailing i said something like , I Am a Beastlord ,,, and he continues on , then ask him about warder and he draws about what happened to warder and gives a stone emblem , no drop. He also says something about caves , I went to Camp and found his missing Pet ( A wounded wolf ) at loc neg 1450 , neg 50. after 3 kills in this hut the wolf popped, i gave it stone and he gives you his collar. Upon returning to Beastlord, and giving collar, he gave me The Bond of the Wild spell, he then wants to draw more, so say something like Please Draw, and he draws a tunnel system under Broken Skull Island, and blows Black Powder over drawing. Not sure what he wants , but this quest does go on, I found entrance to Crypt, and hunted there a bit. Nothing has droped that seems to be for quest , may have to go deeper in , I did however find a Dark Ore, maybe this is what he wants, however it is not No Drop , so probably not. Sure wish the guy would just talk, and tell you what he wants.. I am starting to doubt this guy is for malaria spell, since he gave me a lvl 52 spell for warder , why make it even harder to get a lvl 44 spell, Oh Ya tis Varent, so figures they'd mess things up a bit. If I find will post more. Good Luck to you all, Have a Nice Day,

The Quest Giver in Gunthak mentions some Black Powder in the caves, looked all around and killed alot and did not have a drop.

His name is Caegdin (Forgot last name). He is located outside a hut around the Lighthouse in Gunthak. Hail him and follow the process.

This is the same Quest NPC that I got the Bond of Wind spell from.

When exactly does he mention black powder? What do you say to trigger it? He doesn't say anything of any sort to me.

For the black powder info from the Bar. I think you say "What about the tunnel system" or something to that extent. I was thinking the Black Powder might be in the Torgiran Mines... but that is just a thought. If you find it please post.

Thanks for clearing that up. I hate it when they sometimes put brackets around things you can ask about, then other times they don't. Either, use the brackets or don't. It's very inconsistant. Oh well.

EDIT: You have to say 'What about the Cave System" to be exact.
