MQ still possible?
# Nov 18 2004 at 2:18 AM Rating: Decent
Has anybody multiquested (with the hope stone) the secrets of the planes recently and can confirm, that MQ still works?
RE: MQ still possible?
# Dec 22 2004 at 6:05 AM Rating: Decent
Since nobody has answered yet, I just tried and...... succeeded :D

So MQ-ing the Hope Stone still works on Dec. 21st 2004
the effect
# Aug 08 2004 at 12:53 PM Rating: Default
the effect will ONLY affect detrimental spells liek dots and nukes and simular it will NOT affect heals, or buffs of any type.

umm, it says that

Focus Effect: Conservation of Solusek
1: Decrease Spell Mana Cost by 15%
2: Limit: Max Level(65)
3: Limit: Spell(Complete Healing excluded)
4: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)

Good for a Cleric?
# Aug 07 2004 at 5:17 PM Rating: Decent
Can any priest classes confirm that this item is will NOT work on Healing spells...I know that the effect description says detrimental only, but it also mentions CH so I am confused. Also, I was put onto the quest by a fellow cleric (who has yet to get it) and I am in need of mana pres for my heals not my nukes. Any info would be appreciated.

says that its excluded and that means no. this is a mana reduction focus for dots only.
RE: Good for a Cleric?

DoTs, debuffs, nukes.. you know, things that're detrimental.
RE: Good for a Cleric?
# Sep 06 2004 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
Thats just SOE being lazy if you look at almost every focus in game it mentions complete healing being excluded. I guess some times they forget to actually look at what the focus does before they add in that tag ;-). Aside from that well its ok for a cleric I mean it does have really awesome stats, but the focus effect is only going to see limited use since most clerics don't spend a ton of their time casting detrimental spells (nukes, mark of kings). But every bit helps...
This is killer.

This is like the best questable range item ever...

I currently have Advanced Stealth and am trying to buy the MQs for Advanced Magic and Advanced Combat Manuals so anyone here on Vaezelle who has the Heart of Vakhsiz or Junk Beast Powersource please send a tell to Nadierak. =P

A friend of mine is MQ-ing all the BoT gems for me for free and I'm paying 40K for Hope Stone MQ.

Paid 20K for Rattican's Head MQ as well and all the non-ND components cost me around 3K with Diaku Symbol being by far the most.

Have 2 of the books so far (workin on the JB part atm then i'll be set)..Someone offered to buy them from me last night (he had the hopestone)..my question is 1. will it work, can the three books be given in first followed by the hopestone, and 2. how much would this mq be worth? (again, me providing the 3 books, and him simply providing the HS).

Thanks!

Dodge mod and Mitigation
# Mar 23 2004 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
My roommate finished this quest awhile back, he is a beastlord and he tanks for our household groups, he has all 8 levels of damage mitigation AA's and we discovered something very sinister about this particular item, when he puts it on his mitigation ability becomes almost nothing. He went from taking approximatly 5k damage per PoFire field one mob, to taking approximatly 12k damage per. We have done some testing on it and have found it is actually better for him to have no range item on, or a tradeskill trophy rather than the secret of the planes. Our hypothesis is that it is the dodge modifier that is causing the problems so today we will test it with a fetish of the agile. Once we have conclusive findings and some parsed logfiles to show some statistical signifigance we will be turning the information over to SOE in case they care to do something about it. I suggest that any melee type who have this item and damage mitigation test it out to see if they find similiar results. here are his specs
Beastlord 65, 6000+ hps buffed, 1300+ ac buffed, all skills available to him are maxed (yes even languages and tradeskills) CS3, CA2, PE, ID5. (120+ aa's but those are the only ones that should have effects on mobs damage vs him.
I would like to hear from others who have this item and have tested it for actual mob dps vs them, especially those that have mitigation aa's.
RE: Dodge mod and Mitigation
# Jul 28 2004 at 8:50 AM Rating: Default
First off, there is not 8 levels of dmg mitigation aa there are 5 aa that effect incoming melee dmg CA/CS/ID/LR/PE. second, a dodge modifier will do nothing to negate your aa mitigation abilities it will merely raise your effective skill level. Assuming that your BL is capped at 155 dodge then it becomes 155*1.05 or 163 effective dodge skill. That is all it does in no way does that negate your aa trained mitigation effects. There are numerous reasons for the change in incoming damage, was it slowed earlier or later? different slow spell? was the dps make-up different? did the buffs change? were weapons changed during the test? over what period of time did the test take place? (RNG is streaky) Any parsing go on during this test to determine average dmg over time? any of those changes can effect the overall rate of damage per fight.

Actually no. Lr5 >> id5. The benefit of id5 is pretty nil unfortunately.

Also I find it very hard to believe that a 6k BL with 1300ac takes less dmg then me, a 65 tank with 10k+ hp 1800+ ac and all defensive skills.

I usually require 2ish cheals throughout a fire fight taking in around 10-14kish dmg (just off the top of my head, been a while since we hunted pofire gy.

As a 65 beast, I would say that it is possible. Not because he can tank better but because of the unknown factor here - the others in the group. I too am MT in household group and our groups are VERY dps heavy. If the mob is lasting half as long while he tanks, it is possible he is taking less damage than you.
RE: Dodge mod and Mitigation
# May 05 2004 at 4:46 AM Rating: Decent
Another factor to consider is the weapons being used. Wars often tend to dual wield very low delay weapons. When fighting mobs that hit as hard as these ones do, the more you try to hit them, the more they'll riposte, and the more damage you'll take.

Beastlords don't get double attack (unless they purchase it via AA), so if he were using a high delay 2hb, the lower attack speed could result in a serious reduction in ripostes, which would reduce overall damage.

Perhaps this alone isn't enough to compete with a War with full defensive AAs, but it would be a factor in any case.

Nice BL item
# Feb 24 2004 at 3:33 PM Rating: Default
Got this today, and the effect, focus effect, and dodge mod make it a perfect item for a hybrid (SK, Pally, & BL). I'd say it's even better for a BL, because the Diamond Prism of Companionship can only be augmented to primary, secondary, or range. I'd rather have the DD proc augs to my weapons, so you can imagine where I put it!
mmm, it tastes like.....

I've been looking at this item and the Marsinger Gem (Marsinger's Glimmering Gem) and I really can't decide which is more worth the trouble. My guild is not elemental yet, but I think I could get a group or three up to hate pretty regularly once people see the stats on the marsinger gems (check out the #3 gems, they are very nice also)

My thinking is going towards the marsinger side, and I'm just putting this up for people to have some food for thought when looking at range items. There are some really nice range items out there for people who like to quest, and these 2 are right at the top of the list.

Aandidar,
Go to Plane of Hate here in kazham and look at the quest for the range slot there. It has very good stats for all classes and the caster 3rd tier of that quest has FT III I think that is far superior to this item. You can go to the 4th tier of the quest and it has simular stats and focus just a bit better is all. It will make you drool, lol.

The neat thing about the SotP is that most everything is droppable/MQable, not so with Marsinger.

I know I'm only a low level char that probably doesn’t know half of what I talk about but I did my research on this one. I didn't see anyone talk about the abilities you get from the item in the posts above. The abilities you get are good for both types of classes. You get a mana preservation and an attack bonus not including the 5% dodge mod. I looked at the other items that have the abilities that this one does and they all have either a class restriction, take up a good equip space that has much better items, or the stats aren’t as good and I know the stats aren’t the highest you can find but it goes to all stats for people trying to round their other stats higher. One last thing isn’t this game called Everquest for a reason. Aren’t you supposed to take extra time out of your day to try to do an extremely hard quest. The game wasn’t made just so a bunch of people could get together kill something and take the quick way out to upgrade equip by looting. That’s just my 2cp if you can send me a link of a better item FOR THE RANGE SLOT at my email address Dragoonmaster_7@hotmail.com[/Blue] then I will post an apology myself and say I was wrong.

Might want to edit this post.

Hope Stone is a completely random drop off of non-DCable MOBs in any elemental plane. I have seen them on Triloun CHampions, Rotting Arboreans, Stormrider Lightning Claws, and Giant obsidian tree spiders.

Well as a high level end game player this quest is not for all for the most part it is worthless to all bow classes, but as a mage i wold love to quest this item for one thing the way our guilds loot system this item will not cost me raid points should i choose to quest it and as for hope stone they fall of any mob in the elemental plane its just a matter of luck. Saying someone is stupid for wanting this item is bad policy. for those that want this item it is worth it but it will take a lot of effort and alot of people helping you on the way to aquiring this item you may want to look at doing some other tradeskill quests but as you grow in tradeskills the next quests become easier and easier till you have what everyone wants but are to not motivated enough to get.

I'd take this over a bow personally. Never do enough damage with a bow for it to matter, I pull with spells, and definitely could use the attack modifier. Personally I'd say this is beautiful for any class, cept rangers, but wish it had an aura effect instead of veangeance...maybe I'm too greedy =P

But hell, this is ten times better, maybe even more than that, than the range slot book I got now.

Any class except rangers? In a group/raid where a ranger only uses a bow, the secondary slot may as well be used for something useful like this =)

For Rangers using Archery, Swiftwind almost always takes the secondary slot because it adds 30 Attack (As well as having 40% haste if they dont have a haste item yet which quite a few dont).

Waste of time?
# Mar 16 2003 at 2:29 AM Rating: Decent
Reminds me of the time I spent getting a full suit of lambent armor. There will always be loot and there will always be better loot. People just need to learn to say it's good enough for me and end the greed.

On a side note this entire game is a waste of time. It is only a game. You can't use your SoD as a down payment on a house, and you can't eat your Justice Fruit Pies (I wonder if Cartoon Network has filed a lawsuit on that.) So how about you all just step back for a few and take a look at what at what it is you're squabling about.

you cant take your mortgaged house with you to the grave either, but you might just take all the memeories of good times with cool friends, Ponder that for a while when you are judging what is a waste of time.

Personally, I'd take a sandwich to the grave with me. I mean, if you are spending pretty much eternity there you might as well have a snack.

Actually, you can't take those with you either. I think it's pretty much because YOU'RE DEAD!
