My first charactor in this game was a Paladin and I started back during the Kunark era. I have to say I had a terrible time trying to do these Armor of Ro quests. The hardest part was the granite from the gargoyles in Mistmore, as well as the pots from the witches. When your lvl 30 even with a full group Mistmoore is ruff. Once again this was a era where if you had 200INT you was a twinked caster and it was ok to have full sets of banded or bronze armor. I even remember a photo taken showing a naggy raid and the warrior tanking had 2 SSOY and a full set of bronze armor heh.

Anyways It was good, and they had a great Paladin look. IF im not mistaken the boots, gloves and helm was gold and silver for the rest of it. Keep in mind this was before armor dye was even thought of.

As for modern day EQ I really think SOE should consider either 1. Upgradeing the stats, or 2. Instead of requireing 220ppish worth of plat maybe change it to gold bars instead (or something cheaper). I mean for 220pp you can get better armor in bazaar now. That reason alone its really not worth doing. Also the newbie quested armor is just about as good as some pieces of this armor.

At least the Armor of Ro quests did contain stats meant for a paladin. I never understood why the Warriors Crafted armor had INT and CHA on it.

I mean whats a warrior gotta do anyway but stand there and get hit? Higher Int is quicker skills are learned and Cha works well with the merchants.

Different colour
# Dec 18 2002 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
I bought my suit of Ro armour form a friend, all but the boots, witch I got in the Bazaar. But the boots are a different colour than the rest of the armour. Boots being gold, and the reat being silver. Why is that?

No given Verant has changed items before (allowing the same item to have differant stats in a pre and post patch version)...

Why don't they upgrade the quest armors of all the classes to better meet the equipment that is now so common to drop?

This stuff was AWESOME when EQ first came out. Same iwth (don't chuckle) combine weapons. This was 'the' uber type stuff...

Now when Kunark came out (around when i stopped watching friends and started playing myself) this stuff was still cool... I myself proudly equiped my first 30+, a cleric, in his Temple of Ro quest armor... the same genre as this one...

Now? Post Velious, Post Planes, Post Luclin, Post yadda yadda... ?

Well the game has moved on but VI hasn't upgraded the qulaity of this stuff, or decreased the difficulty of getting it.

Me? I'm sticking with full rygor. I like the old graphics, and it rocks in hjow it looks, and by the level you can earn this or buy it, you could have bought full rygor.

Don't get me wrong... for you folks that still choose to quest it, and there are some good reasons too... congrats to you. You will stand out over your lazier peers... but to someone like me who treats EQ (maybe a little to much) like a sport were the 'mobs' are the other 'team'... well this is just too much effort for too little payoff.
not worth it

well considering the materials to make the armor bring the cost to around 250pp a piece ... i dont think the boots are worth it ... the quests are hard too. and upping the faction with the different pally guilds is a royal pain in the *** ... i got the bp and arms ... workin on greaves now but its seriously hurting me financially.

What does the Ro armor look like? Is it the same look as fine steel? Maybe a different shade but the same appearance? What color? Thanks for any information.
Save up for Deepwater
# Feb 12 2002 at 10:22 PM Rating: Decent
Unless your doing the quest Save up to buy deepwater (except for Bp and legs being 10k on some server in deepwater) because even though there are no + to stats the Ac is wonderful and most of the time only 2 times as much if that. You will be really happy you did once they start beiing able to cast (40 - 50 i belive)

Sorry but most of this Ro stuff stinks...

Most of the Ro Armors suck, especially for the work required to put into them. These boots have 1 extra AC and 35 HP, which isnt bad, but not worth this effort.
Look at this, showing the difference of Ro to Fineplate
Breastplate: 1 AC, 4 Str, 10 SVF
Gaunts: 1 ac, 6 dex, 10 SVP
Vamps: 1 ac, 6 Wis, 10 SVD (Not bad)
Greaves: 1 ac, 6 Sta, 10 SVC
Helm: 1 ac, 8 Wis (Not bad)
Boots: 1 ac, 35 HP
Bracers: 5 SVM

In the end the stats on this whole set upgraded from FP: 6AC, 10 SVM/SVF/SFP/SVC, 35 HP, 6 Dex&Sta, 14 Wis, 4 Str. Well thats nice, and if you look at that it seems pretty sweet... but now realized that it costs 5 times as much as the FP set, or requires days of questing for a high level, and more for a level 30 as they state can complete it. Also these stats are not very good for a complete set, although the Breastplate is not bad, Strength being hard to find on a good AC BP, and the Wis items are nice, but if you are upgrading from Fine Plate I doubt you will think the long days of questing are worth it.

Ro armor is also DRAMATICALLY lighter than ordinary fine plate. If you're a weak lil high elf or erudite paladin, that's a pretty important consideration. Fit out a high elf in a full set of fine plate, give them a shield, a ghoulbane, and some big 2HS, and see how they feel...they'll be crushed under the weight of everything! =)

It's pretty difficult quest armor to get (compared to things like crafted), but some people enjoy that challenge (rather than just running to EC to twink out).

I could not agree more, my Erudite pally wears his suit of Ro with pride. There is much more to the game then twinking yourself with items you buy in EbayCommons with money you get camping a mob over and over and over. just my 2copper

Those who love Role Playing their pallies will love these quests. Earning your Armour of Ro and ghoulbane are important stages of developing a pally. I for one think the armour looks awesome as is WELL worth getting. Even if you have something better to wear in combat. Nothing beats the look for weddings and travel (gets many OOHs and AAAHs)
