DMG OUTPUT

Hi Peeps,

I play a 63 Gnome SK on Vallon Zek. I got this weapon last night on a Bertoxx raid. Anyways I wanted to let you guys know what my dmg has been like. Take in mind that I Proc Avatar and then switch to the skeeter lance. With Avatar all melee stats are at 270, str, agi , dex and ATK is over 1300.......With the Mosquito Lance I hit anywhere from 20's to 300 or so, With the Primal I have hit for 520 . You can check the dmg bonus's on my weapons. I hope this info helps out.

Damage bonus..

So much debate over damage bonus LOL... Don't you guys ever read patch messages or does the short break from EQ have you racing back to the game so eager to play that you simply click "OK"?

Not so long ago.. ok ok, it was a year or two ago, VI decided to totally ***** with damage bonuses. They took away dmg bonus for the off-hand completely and increased the dmg bonus for 2-handers. They (VI) stated that the dmg bonus for 2 hand weapons with a delay of 30 or greater would have a greatly increased dmg bonus while wepaons uder 30 delay would not have as much dmg bonus. I'm getting old, my mind is slipping and I still remember that patch like it was last week :) I had a warrior with that 17/30 +10 STR sword and I thought, wow thats perfect. So ya see, its because the delay on this is only 25 that it has such a low dmg bonus. If it were 40/30 it would have a HUGE bonus.

Damage Bonus changes with different delays on 2-handers. The formulas change from 27 delay and less (the weakest), 28 to 39 delay, 40 to 42 delay, and anything greater than 42 delay (the strongest dmg bonus).

Not that it changes things very much, but I think that 28 is the delay cut-off for the damage bonus "bonus" if you will... Aside from that small distinction I agree with you completely.

If this thing was 35/30 it would probably do more damage.

Per swing sure... but not over time. Ratio over bonus. I average 80's wit this weapon as is... Give me 10 more damage bonus and I'd average 90's but at the expense of delay? Let me see here 11% more damage per swing but swinging 20% slower... see? No this would not do more damage at 35/30

Edit:
While I still stick by my basic logic posted here I do have to admit now that true 35/30 over 35/25 will in fact do more damage (at some point close to 65). Above I was looking at this weapon in my mid/low 50's where the damage bonus on higher delay weapons isn't as extrem. Now at season 58 I started to see the damage bonus on higher delay weapons going up exponentially while my low delay weapons (such as this one) have stayed the same. From there and with a better understanding of the "magic number", which I see allakzms is using in some equation to come up with a comparitive efficiancy (appears to be dam x 1/2bonus / delay x 100), which is based on the magic number (your most common hit damage) which is 2 x damage + bonus.

Anyway yes, this weapon would have a higher, 176 comparitive efficiancy at level 65 with a 35/30 ratio. (now I need to run home and see what damage bonus a 30 delay two hander has for me right now to prove my original post... hey I'm having fun here)

Ok at level 58 comparitive efficiancy
35/25 damage bonus 12 = 164
35/30 damage bonus 26 = 160
so I was right in the first place... guess somewhere between 58-65 that will turn over though.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 31 2002 at 1:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK, this looks like an extra-ordinary weapon, and if it had the standard 2H damage bonus would be the best 2H weapon anyone could lay their hands on from a sheer dps point of veiw.
benefits of fast 2handers

This thing isn't so bad actually, with good haste you could get it under 20 delay easy. With a real slow 2 hander the damage is good, but lets say you land a crap hit, or miss? then you have to wait a little longer to get another round. With this thing its so fast it hardly matters. I myself carry both a nice heavy damage 2 hander AND a nice fast wep, both have their uses at different times.

I see "twink bait" writen all over this unless some warrior wants this. DPS will be killed as soon as you cast your first spell, and the Db is likely next to nothing.

Perhaps the point is that a 25 delay 2-hander is not exactly great by the time you will see this dropping. Sure, 35/25 looks nice on paper but with no proc and the effective loss of 2-hand damage bonus, it simply is not that good. The longer-delay 2-handers allow casting between swings (with less loss of dps) and the hefty damage bonuses make them often exceptional choices for sheer dps in high-mitigation encounters.

It is not complete crap but it sure isn't all that great. I would like to see the fellow getting a mid-50s twink flagged up and logged out just to loot it though :) That strikes me as a little unlikely.

I don't know what saddens me most..the fact that you're level 65 or that you don't know what you're talking about....or maybe both?

no i think this is a great weapon. look at ornate greatblade, sure the stats are better since itz a much higher end weapon, but the ratio is not much different from this baby here
second, why do you think a weapon without a proc is bad? a proc over-all does minimal amount of damage compared on your over-all damage your weapon does
another thing, a weapon with higher delay are much more inconsistant. even if they have a high damage bonus, it all evens out in the long run
RE: Yuck.

Perhaps an example will help. At level 58, my SK has a damage bonus of 12 on a two tined corpse pitchfork at delay of 22. With a widebladed greatsword, I believe it was 24 or thereabouts at delay fo 35. About 50% more on the delay with double the damage bonus there. Now, that having been said, I still use the corpse pitchfork for a couple reasons. First is that as an SK I always have a proc - be it lifetap or manatap proc, and either procs more times per fight with the pitchfork. Second is that even ignoring the proc, 26/22 outdamages 35/35 regardless of the damage bonus. I've been regularly hitting for 50-70 with the pitchfork and maxing in the 130 range and my skill hasn't caught up to where it should be yet. With the sword, I was average hitting just under the 100 mark with a max hit around 200. For some reason though, I seem to get more consistent high numbers with the pitchfork, which I have yet to understand. All in all, what it comes down to, is I tear through things a lot faster with the pitchfork despite the lower damage bonus. Pure ratio often means more than a weapon's damage bonus.
