At 59 the gods knows this is the last zone you'd be in. This is a fairly sad dagger for that level of play. Piercing mod? Riposte mod? Proc? It needs something.

This is a sad dagger for that level of play. So, wait. Every single item to come out of the elementals should be absolutely top of the top? That seems a little unbalanced to me. Look at every single new expansion, every single new high-end zone, and you'll see the same thing. Fair to good stuff on most mobs, with some really uber items coming off the couple major mobs in the zone. Not every named mob is an uber. While I would agree with you had this dropped from, let's say, Fennin, I think you're being a bit unfair here. This item is far from sad. No, it won't win any awards for uberness. No, it's not going to make anyone drool over it. In all fairness, however, not everything can be uber. There has to be some throw-away stuff, just as filler. It definitely says something about how far gear has come in this game when a 14/19, 85+ HP piercer gets categorized as "throw-away" though.

I would normally agree with your conclusion, but I think you are missing a small point. To even hunt in this zone (and granted its only a tier 2) to get this item, you are 55+ (closer to 60) and have killed at least 1 uber mob to get flagged. That means that you most likely have better. For the most part, the people who don't have better, aren't in a position to get the flags necessary to ever see this item.

For some gear, I would agree with what you say. However, let's consider rogue piercers specifically and this zone specifically. First, Crypt of Decay is a zone that can be entered without killing a boss mob. It requires a quest but it can be done. Second, rogue piercers, until very recently, capped out at 15 damage. A 14 damage piercer for a rogue is actually very solid. It also has a hefty dose of HP, STA, DEX, and resists. So no, this is not a Sol Ro Tower drop but COD is honestly just an exp zone except for Bert. The pre-flag for Bert is not hard and just takes some discipline by the guild trying it instead of raw zergage.

Within 12 months zones like COD will be the new "Sebilis" of POP and there will be camp checks, etc., as groups of 65s routinely hunt here. It seems hard right now because the new levels and mobs are much tougher than what went before but just like when Kunark came out, people will adjust to the new levels and new mob damage output and soon this zone will just be another exp spot. When that happens, everyone will think this item is fine loot from an XP camp.

Heh quite honestly this is crap, and was crap the minute it was created. I Currently have 5 weapons better than this, and all of them are pre PoP. I don't know any rogues who could get this that would want it. Most warriors and rangers who would want to work piercing can get other weapons that are better for less effort. Wicked Shank, Tendonslicer come to mind(yes they'd go to rogues first, but they quickly start to rott as your guild's rogues aquire them or pass them by because they have better. This weapon would go to a twink alt of a member of an uber guild or more likely rot. This would be a decent pre velious weapon, but by luclin or pop standards in an era when the rogue epic can be done with 2 people(and a ride to hate) this is sadly lacking.
