Not as expensive as they might seem...

Right, don't get me wrong, these are awesome and all. On the wonderful server of Fennin Ro, however, we seem to live by Price Checks, which really drives the price down, as well as other factors...right now, the market is flooded with GEBS, and while the demand is also pretty good, it's not so much to make these things 5k. Right now, the standard price (on our server) is 2-3k, 3 being the standard easy to find sell and 2 being a slightly harder deal. I'm not saying these things aren't WORTH 4k, but at least on our server, we've been going by supply and demand rather than product "value" for a while now. That's my 2 cents...i'll be buyin these when i get the cash!<dont flame this! doo doo doo doo>

Prices are based on what people imput to the database. The prices of most items on Fennin Ro are lower than other servers because Fennin Ro is one of the oldest servers so people have been farming these high-value and reliable drop items longer than other servers. Simply put, there are more GEB's on this server than say Antonious Bayle (sorry about any mispelling, I don't play on that server), so the demand is lower. Now as far as new items go (i.e. Luclin items) the prices are probably a little higher because there is more plat available to be spread around (well, except for all the people buying Horses taking massive amounts of plat out of the economy) the prices on Luclin items have been artificialy high due to novelty value. Expect to see most (but not all) luclin items to go down in value as well as a few old world items raise in value as people come to there senses (like with Fungi Tunics. 19k people? Commonm their worth more than that!).

Doesnt the supply and demand give you the product value? Surely no artificial value can be assigned (and attained) for a product if there is no demand at that price.

But to ge honest I think that most in EQ do look at it the way you described it, so I may be wrong.

No, you're right.

People may sell for more than the supply/demand price, and people may insist on paying less, but those are single instances. Over all, no matter what individual people think it's worth, the price will average out based on supply and demand. That's economics, nothing you can do about it.
