What Lvl
# Sep 07 2001 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
What lvl does a Mag need to be to solo the AC in SRo? Any info on the lvl, HPs, Resistences of both the one in OOT and the one in SRo would really help thank you.

This bums resists are huge to fire I casted Ro's Firey Sundering (lowers FR) still resisted Starfire every time... I did notice he was easy to root and dot so I am guessing he has a low MR hope this helps

Lots of people detail their levels when they solo completed the quest at that link. I think that to do the one in SouthRo, you probably need to be 35, and the one in OOT at least 40, if not 45.

nice jboot story...
i head over to oot.
a druid was clearing phs all day. and i mean all day. i ask him what number in line i am for the camp and he says i am after him (yay). then he tells me about his hellish camp, a total of 9 hours with no spawn. he then tells me that he endured all he can and was going to log after the next ph. i may be a tad evil but i knew that he was due any second to spawn. next ph spawns, no ac. i get camp. i wait only 4 or 5 phs, and then ac pops! weee. get shadow rapier, no problem, get gold, heavy but no problem. find hasten... (sigh) this part was hard, i had a druid helping me track him and hasten was running all over the place as usual, he got killed (not sure by what), he aggroed one of the evil sphinx's croonies, it was just a hassle. anyway, eventually we find him and i hand in my items and recieve my booties!

veeeery worth it. i cant even begin to tell you how many times my frail high elven body was spared a lashing due to these boots. everyone should have a pair.
J Boots rock!

I was on my way to Rathe Mountains to play with the Hill Giants when me and Jarer had a quick smoke break on one of the dunes.

I have heard a lot of people talking about the Ancient Cyclops and all these ways to get him to spawn etc as he is quite rare.

POP right in fornt of me while sat down. Straight away checked who is in zone!!!! 1 Person in South Ro - Reaffer(CircleofEight) WOOT!

Took him down real easy found it harderr getting rapier lol. Anyways im chuffed with these boots. And i did notice something very very strange that happened just before he popped but thats a secret ;)

WTH? If it sells for that much, you can get some good chanter buffs and get the travelers boots in sol a for 5k. Maybe I'm wrong but there are some dumbass people around.

Well, for one thing, the Travellers Boots have a 1.5 sec cast time, and you cannot cast on the run. So, in that respect, JBoots are highly superior to TBoots. The other is that JBoots cost 325pp and some time, while TBoots cost 5500-7000 pp, depending on faction and charisma. Big difference. For me, it was a no brainer. 6 hours of camping AC was all it took. How much money could a Paladin (me) make in 6 hours? Not 7k let alone 5k. Hell, I've never even seen 2k all at once in 46 seasons.

He just described Multi-questing for it, which does work. Just be aware that if anything goes wrong, Verant won't replace your cash or the ring.
Tholuxe Boots tonight
# Aug 31 2001 at 8:42 AM Rating: Decent
Did the Quest tonight from scratch on tholuxe, not gonna rant bout my exploit, but will post the times it took...

AC spawn and kill - 40mins
(killed some random stuff, and 2 sand giants, don't think that anything caused it to pop)

Shadowed Rapier - 40mins
(this part was horrible)

Got gold - Ez... but didn't realize my brother took all of my pp, had to raise some. ouch.

Got my port to rathe, and immediately when I got into the zone, someone said that he saw him on his way in... so I hit auto run, while I was typing, I saw this lil guy running REALLY FAST by me... took bout 2 mins to find him total.

Well that didn't take long at all... also the 40 mins it took to get the ring... was just all about no one else campin him.

Cheers,

I was told that if Hasten(if that is his name) wears the boots, and you just need to kill him to get them. Its not a drop everytime item, but that you can kill him and they will drop.

Can anyone confirm or deny this fact?
and if so, why dont more people just camp him instead of the AC?

Thanks
RE: Please give guidance...
# Oct 27 2001 at 10:27 AM Rating: Decent
Nope, If you actually read what it says when you Hail Hasten, He says that if you kill him, his boots go "poof". That and it says right here that if you kill him they don't drop.

People who are trying to spawn Brother Zephyl will kill Hasten (Hasten, Zephyl, "a drake", and Maldyn the Unkempt are all on the same spawn table). He does NOT drop jboots. If you want Hasten to spawn you can kill a drake and Maldyn too, though if Zephyl pops you'll have to wait 2-4 hours for him to despawn unless you can get a strong upper 50's group to take him out.

I am a 24th Level Rogue. I grouped with my friend whom is a 44th Wizard. The first night we hunted the AC in SRo for about 4 hours with no luck. Hunting all undead and killing all rare spawns. We did spawn many Hill Giants and even a named Hill Giant, which has the saem rarity as the AC. Next morning I wake up about 11AM PST, I am the only person in s ro.. My friend gets on and after about 1 hour of doing the same thing we get a ring, and since he is higher he gets this one. By this time there are 15 or so people in the zone, so if it does spawn it is going to be a hassle to get, we decide to wait till later that night. In the meantime he gets the rapier and ports to rathe and finds Mr. Bootstrutter. That night we hunt for only 2 hours before spawning the AC and I get my boots, the server was going down for a patch and we log and wait till the next day. I log on and my friend already has the rapier for me and I am already in Rathe sitting with the gold. No Hasten, Brother Z, a lvl 60 Monk (VERY RARE, I have been told people have waited days before Brother Z spawns in Hasten's place) so I sit and wait, after being told he does despawn.. 6 hours later of checking I finally give up and log off. The next day we get the rapier and Hasten Bootstrutter. JBoots are awesome. Very very cool. For a Barbarian Rogue especially, I am soo slow, not anymore. :)

NOTE: A very good idea if you are hunting the Cyclops and for catching Hasten, GET A 10 DOSE SOW POTION. Very useful, if the AC pops (he is giant sized) you will see him but everyone hunting there has SOW so unless you do also, someone else will get him first. Also, Hasten Bootstrutter is VERY fast, SoW speed all the time.

Excellent Quest. :)

# Aug 24 2001 at 12:23 AM Rating: Decent
Yes... unlike what some have said you can still multi the boots. As of Aug 23 2001, I was able to do it.

1) Group with yer partner
2) have the ring bearer hand in the ring to the gnome and hit trade
3) Now you (who will get the boots) hand in the rapier and the 3250g and hit trade

4) you shuld get the boots no problem!

My *worst* time getting the JBoots...
# Aug 12 2001 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent
My adventure has got to be the worse store ever of trying to get the JBoots. It took me a total of 6 days and 27 hours to complete the quest but in the end I finally got the JBoots. This is how it went:

Day 1: I spent 6 hours camping in SRo camping AC and he never spawned.
Day 2: I spent 6 hours in OOT camping AC and he never spawned.
Day 3: I hooked up with a group in OOT and AC finally spawned but the ring was already set to goto someone else in the group. That party broke up and I grouped with this necromancer. 4 hours after AC spawned, AC spawns again. He rolls a 44 and I roll a 36. I lose the ring again. Total time spent this day was 6 hours.
Day 4: Camp AC with same necromancer. Just him and I and an hour later, AC spawns and I finally get the ring. WooHoo! Time spent is 2 hours.
Day 5: I run over to Shadowman camp in WC and find a rapier laying on the ground. Grab my money and run to Rathe Mountains. No Hasten! I wait for 3 hours before falling asleep at the keyboard at 7 AM. Time spent is 4 hours.
Day 6: Run to shadowman camp in SK and get a new rapier and run back to Rathe Mountains and still no Hasten. Finally, after 2 more hours. He spawns in front of me and I give him the 3 items. He gives me the JBoots... I collapse from exhaustion. Time spent is 3 hours.

I know this quest is supposed to be somewhat easy except for waiting for the AC but it turned out to be the worst 6 days of my life playing EQ. Being a rogue, I believe I *need* the JBoots but unless you are lucky... Getting them can be a major pain!
Just wanted to share this with anyone thinking about getting the boots...

Sorry I dont understand why would someone camp a thing for 8hrs and get these Jboots when you can get the Watchman boots? Are the stats correct I mean for the Watchman Boots its like 5AC +5agi. And the quest is easier plz explain

You also don't need to have them in your foot slot either. They can just be in your inventory for them to work. Just make a hotkey and your running with the wolves...well almost.

Today i logged on in SRO to kill spiders and pumas to get supplies for tailoring(well...killing SGs when they spawn as well). After about an hour lo and behold, the mythical beast that i had camped for well over 100 hours without ever seeing, the AC had popped. I was playing my 51 enchanter at that time, got hit pet went in, dot, nuke nuke he is running and i got my ring. Didnt have to worry when only 2 other people were in zone, both of which were level 15. Now to attempt to multiquest this so my cleric can get the boots.

HOW TO MULTIQUEST
# Jul 19 2001 at 9:53 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok here is how to multiquest.

1. First get all the supplies. Shadowed Rapier, AC ring, 3250GOLD PIECES.

2. Go to Rathe Mountains with a friend.

3. Make sure YOU have the GOLD and RAPIER, and HE has the RING.

4. You give the puntable gnome :) the 3250GOLD and Rapier. BUT DONT PRESS GIVE.

5. Then YOUR FRIEND gives him the AC ring and presses GIVE.

6. Then YOU press GIVE and booya! JBOOTS

P.S. Make sure he presses give before you otherwise he would be the one handing in the last piece for the quest therefore he would get the Jboots.

Good Luck!
The Easy Way
# Jul 19 2001 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
The easy way to get Jboots his to find someone who farms the AC then multiquest it with that guy. I paid 6k to multiquest Jboots with me and it was well worth it. A little bit of trust is needed but it can be done.
Its is triggerable.
# Jul 12 2001 at 2:29 PM Rating: Default
The AC in S Ro does have PHs. just very many. look for the odd names. u might notice "a dry bone skeleton" and "a drybone skeleton". that one space can make all the difference. also, killing "a rattlesnake" "an asp" "a ghoul" "a zombie" and "a sand giant" seemed to speed up the AC op for me and my 3 friends. just remember. its a quest for the mentally tough. they make u sleepy and angry that it wont spawn, in hopes that u will not notice the slightly different names of PHs.
I GOT MY JBOOTS! YEAH!
# Jun 25 2001 at 3:35 PM Rating: Good
Ok, wellllllp, it is true, I did get my jboots! Hoooray. I figured I would post my experience for others to review if they are still performing this quest. First, on the hardest part of quest, the coveted Ring of the Ancients. We (myself, 46 monk, and 2 others, 41 chanter and 40 warr) proceeded to SRO after a overpacked Dreadlands sent us elsewhere looking for action. We had heard of and read about the mythical jboots quest and figured 'why not?'. After an hour of killing sand giants and such,BAM, an Ancient Cyclops popped! Unfortunately there were about 15 other ppl mobbing it at the same time and, well, I lost. After this lovely KS'ing fiasco, I decided to try it another day. Next day, went to OOT. One hr goes by killin regular cyclops etc, BAM, another AC! This time was more fruituitous. I had in my possession a Ring of the Ancients! Now, to try and get one for my fellow group members. 6 hrs later, no spawn =( . I plan on going back today and how ever many other days go by to assist my fellow group members get their rings too. From what i've seen, unless yer Lvl 60, stick with hunting em at OOT. Ks'ers galore in SRo. The raiper was a cinch in Lavastorm and the gold, no need explaining it. Went to Rathe Mntns and 5 mins later, there was good ole Hasten. He was indifferent to my iksar monk. Hailed em, gave em the 3 items, and tada! anyways, good luck to all! you CAN get the ring of the ancients if ya hang in there
it is triggered.
# Jul 12 2001 at 2:23 PM Rating: Decent
The AC in S Ro is triggered by a kill. u just need to know what to look for. u might notice "a dry bone skeleton" and "a drybone skeleton". there is a huge diff. alos try "a rattlesnake", "an asp" "a zombie" "a ghoul" and of course, SGs. try it. it works. well, at least it did when we got 3 rings...
How to Get AC to spawn
# Jun 19 2001 at 2:27 AM Rating: Default
Your all wrong, none of you know how to do it, ill tell u.
First, u gotta kill Guard Regis, get his whatchamahoozit and give it to Tovax Vmar at EXACTLY 3pm game time. He will give u his thingamabobber which u then go and drop on the ground outside of Blackburrow. Then u must dance around it while screaming "I like to eat pumpernickel" 5 times. After your done that, drown yourself in the lake but just before u die shout "I LIKE TO TOUCH MEN" and then Pyzin will run to u.

I just got the ring of the ancients, For 5 days i would log on and stand in the same area, not caring if it popped anywhere else but in my area, and it did, this area is where i first saw him spawn on the first day, the NW corner, where ortallius hangs out, the zone was full of people looking for him, but when he popped I simply turned on my /log and shouted "Dont touch" and people understood, being a monk it took me a little longer to take him down, but in the end, there were 14 people standing around me, and not one hit the AC, Im level 41 iksar mnk, conned green didnt lose a bar of health, so to all you soloists, you can do it....just be patient and think of what you will gain in the end

Jboots question
# Jun 16 2001 at 7:23 AM Rating: Default
I am troubled about something. The jboots is activated while running and instantly which i understand, but can u put on the jboots, use the effect and take it off and use other boots instead. Or must the jboots be on the feet slot to keep the effect, any info would be great.
RE: Jboots question

just right click them they dont need to be worn or anything can be activated from your inventory
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 14 2001 at 10:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i realy think that this quest is a waste of time, i mean u wait hours an hours just for the AC to spawn. whats the fun in that, why not just go buy a few things of sow potions an save yourselk the time.
RE: jboots is a waste
# Aug 07 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Decent
SoW potions cost money, 120pp for 10 shots of it on average on my server. If you hit yourself with a SoW every hour, you're going to be dumping half a K or a K every week (if you're as lifele.. er, play as much as me), whereas these'll keep you running fast forever for an initial investment of time.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 08 2001 at 2:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The effect on these is not nearlly as fast as a sow from a higher level char. When hunting at higher levels there are many things that can catch and kill you, having 1ac doesn't help much. If you can get these boots great but I play many characters and don't have time to get these boots for them all. Since my main char can make 1kpp an hour or more no problem I just give all my other chars lots of stacks of sow potions. For some reason it is considered ok to KS the AC in SRo but not OOT so if you are not 50+ you dont have much chance.
RE: Not worth the Hassle usually
# Jul 09 2001 at 7:19 PM Rating: Good
SoW does not get faster with level, its duration increases.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 20 2001 at 12:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whatever, moron. Try getting a level 9 shaman SoW and a level 60 shaman SoW and se who is faster. It DOES make a difference in speed.

RE: Not worth the Hassle usually
# Jul 18 2001 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
You would be wrong. The speed of SoW does increase, and the Bard speed song will top-out even faster than the highest SoW with the right instrument.
RE: Not worth the Hassle usually
# Oct 18 2001 at 4:34 AM Rating: Decent
Guys guys guys... it is not worth arguing when the great people at Verant games tells us the answer... Both Duration and speed are incressed... Duration is 3 x level in Minutes (max 36) and speed incress is 30% + 1%/2 levels... as quoted from page 481 of primas offical guide to EQ
GOT MY JBOOTS!
# Jun 07 2001 at 9:46 AM Rating: Default
I got my JBoots last night...whew! I hunted the AC in SRo for about 24 hours over the past few days so I GUESS I should consider myself lucky as within this past week I got my Paw of Opolla, Aegis of Life, AND JBoots.

I got KS'd twice on the first day of hunting so I COULD have been even luckier. My biggest problem is that I am but a simple cleric and anybody anywhere NEAR my level could simply come up and get a few hits in to KS let alone the level 50-60s who were KS'ing me at that time.

Well...it spawned near the evil merchants and NOBODY even tried for it...I was amazed! I Enstilled it and hit it with a few Wraths when it broke the root and started pummeling me along with 3 other greenies in the area. Needless to say, I DIED. But I was bound no less than 100 feet away so I memmed Enstill and Wrath and went back at it. NOBODY was after it still...boy, did I get lucky. I finished it off naked with only 2 spells memmed and got my ring.

I managed to get the AC last night. I was camping the zone with my druid loaded up on my second pc on /follow just running around, killing anything that moved. About 4 hours later I saw the AC spawn on the other end of the zone. Since there were others camping it I freaked out, being almost positive that someone would snag him before me. I ran up on him and saw he was still strolling around. I harm touched him immediately and had my druid starfire him. Moments later another druid and bard tried to run up on him and cast as well (why a druid or a bard would need jboots is beyond me). Luckily my druid and I were grouped and grabbed the kill.
Just some friendly advice for you hopeful AC campers. Camp with a friend or a few friends and use everything you got to bring him down asap. 9 out of 10 times you will have to deal with KSers. People camp him all day with nothing, are very frustrated, and will not give a crap that they KS you, even if they are the type of player who normally wouldn't do so. Good luck and happy hunting...
Oh btw...during my 4 hours on sro I also managed to take down the Terrorantula. Now THAT was fun.
pure luck
# May 31 2001 at 11:53 AM Rating: Default

A few nights ago I went to Sro to look for the AC. After about an hour-seeing how many high lvls were there looking for the AC too, I decided to camp for the night. I sat down, clicked camp-when the timer hit 10 seconds, I was jolted out of my sitting position, not looking at the text, thinking a madman or a mummy came along, I turned around facing kneecaps. Lo and behold, the AC was attacking me. I ran a bit-still having sow-got off a one fire spell and one lightning, his points dropped-next thing I knew-the AC was surrounded by people hitting it with weapons, others spelling it. I blasted it two more times, and was lucky enough to get the kill and most damage so I was able to loot the big guy for the ring of the Ancients. So, don't give up.
