Got my ring :)
# Apr 01 2002 at 1:45 PM Rating: Good
Hello again questers! I didn't expect to be here so soon! Well, my plan worked, I got a guildie to wake up early today to go with me in Sro and hunt for the cyclops. They'er weren't many people there around 8am. Thankfully the only high levels in the zone where low levels hunting dervs and other stuff. Me, being a 50 warrior, and my guildie, 45 Necro, started running around killing everything, including things that were suppose to be the PH for the cyclops. Later, our 60 cleric joined us in the hunt. We killed the spawn in the tower several times, and a named jackal, scourge I think. Finnaly, it spawned just before 10am irl, we ran up to it, and keeled it good. It might have been that named jackal that got it to spawn, not quite sure. It spawned near the derv camp I think. I looted the ring, and we kept on hunting for it for a bit more, but it didn't show. My guildies left, but I was happy :) Just need the rapier and get the gold to hasten now. Hope you have fun camping for this guy, it's better to do it with friends than alone :)

You have to kill the ph in the tower in SRO, I did it last night and the AC spawned three times! I didn't get a chance to kill it cause others were allways near it when it spawned and got to it first. :( I started camping for it from 5pm till 3am. Spawned three times up untill about 8pm irl. I hear you have to kill the ph in the tower at 8pm in game time. Cause after 8pm irl I killed the ph in the tower a few times and it never spawned, or maybe it did and got killed before I could get to it, grrr. You really should do this in sro early in the morn' when no one's around so they won't get it before you. Or be brave and go to oot. That's about it, good luck! Or get your guild to own the zone.

Well this is what I believe. Camped the AC for a good 4 hours and tried every trick I've heard of. I am fairly sure that the pop inside the stone tower is if not required, then at least good to kill to speed up the spawning of the bigger crits in the zone. All in all I saw 4 SGs, 1 Husam, 2 terrorantulas and then... Finally the AC poped. As far as I can figure there is no sure way of getting it up. You kill the PH in the tower, then something usually spawns in a few mins, but sometimes not. And sometimes more then 1 spawn appears. When I finally got the AC he spawned about 2 minutes after the Terrorantula had poped for the second time. May not be a usufull thread this one either, but all I have to say is... Kill the PH, kill everything else that is big and pray to whatever god you worship.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 03 2002 at 4:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey everybody, I recently did the jboot quest and alls i gotta say was it was easy as cake, for the most part, I died quite a few times because I am only lvl 34 magician but it didnt take very long at all. I've read this whole thread and most of you say it takes forever, the ac ring took me all of about 2 minutes to get because i know how to spawn it, not gunna tell here but come to the nameless server and give sumtik a tell and i will tell ya how. the 2 toughest things to do were get the rapier, stupid random weapons! 3 or so plat on each corpse i made about 70 pp or so. Then find hasten, he wasnt up when i first got there but about 3 - 4 hours later there he was

I agree with Darkessa. This forum is mostly for the exchange of info and what you just did was dangle the proverbial carrot in front of the donkey. I'm not down with that... nor am I going to the 'Nameless' server to find out either. Shoot... I got better things for my time than dealing with a serious nOOb who obviously PL'ed to level 34 and brags about stuff. Sheesh
RE: With the quickness
# Mar 11 2002 at 9:28 PM Rating: Excellent
I scored this thread as AWFUL (and hope everyone else will do the same, so it gets skipped by future players coming to use this reference resource).

If you're going to post a thread to this site, put some useufl content in it. Don't tell us you know how to spawn a MOB, but you're not going to tell here -- that we need to instead create an account on some goob server that we never play on just to come send you a private /tell. Lame.

This site is not for braggarts like you to tell of their questing prowress. It's for the useful exchange of ideas, tips, and tricks by players of Everquest. Put up or shut up.

PS -- I expect everyone else to "score" this post as AWFUL to. Sorry, just needed to vent. I hate twits like this.

Casting on the move?
# Mar 02 2002 at 8:33 AM Rating: Decent
Someone told me that these boots would let a caster cast while running/walking. I highly doubt it, but can anyone tell me for sure?
RE: Casting on the move?
# Apr 19 2002 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
You can use the effect while on the move, because the spell is insta-cast. Although it won't let you cast your normal spells while moving.

# Feb 16 2002 at 1:52 PM Rating: Excellent
These boots can be kept in a main inventory slot, hotkeyed, and are activatable even whilst running. Recommended for Int casters and non-SoW classes in general but especially for pure Int. casters with overland zone trekking designs. Reasoning being from the point of view that inviz drops randomly, stuff may see thru inviz, and in general getting outrun by mobs post 30 is not a good thing statistically speaking for low hp classes.

I have been teamed with wiz in TT who showed me she could trigger Jboots in main inventory, whilst wearing an better ac/stats item.

The pity is bard instruments can't be done this way without swapping them around in the hand, for this aspect detracts from a wider appreciation of that class's enjoyment inasfar as creating a less immersive gameplay experience compared to any other class's ingame world interaction: fiddling around with weapons and instruments is more like engineering a player interface than gaming pleasure.

do they need to be on?
# Jan 31 2002 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
As a Dwarven Paladin I am very interested in these boots. My question is do they need to be on your feet or can you just keep them in your main inventory? The SoW -like proc would be great by the AC is too low to hold my feet slot in my op. (Figure you have a haste sash on, that 2 slots with low/no ac or stat items) Can anyone whth these please tell me? Ty!
AC Spawn
# Jan 30 2002 at 7:51 AM Rating: Good
I was omw to Rathe and decided to see if i could get the AC to spawn. First i ran the zone to see if any SG's were up which they weren't. It was about 7:00 pm game time and I sat down at the tower. Killed all the undead around it, and then a dry bones skelly poped inside the tower. Within 2 mins of killing the dry bones, the AC poped right in front of the tower, conned lt. blue to me at 44 and dropped him in 30 secs. Still haven't got the rapier yet, but wanted to share how he popped. Think it has something to do wit da dry bones in the tower.

MultiQuesting
# Jan 19 2002 at 2:30 PM Rating: Decent
Question, I want to buy the AC ring, understanding it will have to be multi quest. 1. The seller gives bootstrutter the ring and I give the GP and rapier. Now, what order do I do this, and if you don't know the seller, when should you give them the 4k to 6 k for the AC ring to keep from getting ripped. If you do get ripped off, will the GM's correct the wrong if you keep screen shots of all the transaction and chat. If the answer is no to the GM helping you, I guess you can make sure that you buy only from players from a respectable guild, that will correct the problem if you keep screen shots of the deal.
2. Now when you have the effect of the sow going from the JBoots, is it true you can throw spells while you are running?

You can do it in any order. The ring is usually given last, but it doesn't matter. How to keep from getting ripped off is between you and the seller - the GM won't help you, so you have the right idea about making sure that the other person in the transaction is reputable. Casting while running is possible if your channeling skill is high enough, but good luck. ;-) The boots themselves have no effect on this.
RE: MultiQuesting
# May 09 2002 at 1:42 PM Rating: Default
Uh I don't think so.
My inderstanding is the last person to give the item gets the quest item. Sooo if you give the ring last who ever had the ring will get the boots.

????
RE: MultiQuesting
# Jun 18 2002 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
No. You are incorrect. The whole idea of multiquesting is that you have items which are NO DROP that you can share a single quest with (eg. without trading the NO DROP items).

If the person with the ring got the JBoots, one couldn't sell the Multiquest.. because the person who had the NO DROP ring would always get the jboots.

i think you misunderstood what she meant.. IF you turn in the ring last, the person that turns in the ring WILL get the boots. If you're "buying the ring" as a MQ then that gets turned in first, then the rapier and cash. I would highly recommmend doing this with someone with a good reputation in a reputable guild, because GMs do NOT support MQing.
Even Worth It for 51+?
# Jan 15 2002 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
If you are 51+ now is it even worth it to get this? Just throw in 3 points into AA for the Inate running speed and you don't need these very hard and time consuming camped boots

If you figure that it can take up to about 30 hours to get AC to spawn, get the rapier, and find the guy in Rathe mtns... might as well get about 3 AA points in that 30 hours and have some fun killing stuff and not waiting around for a long boring Camp, that might get KSed anyways

That's just my 2 cp
Yes, it IS worth it... for me
# Jan 30 2002 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, it is. I was determined to get these boots at say 35. Prime time to star Wizzy Quad kiting. I spent too much time camping the AC, and gave up. The other day while giving someone a ride to a hate raid, I checked game time, 8 PM, Checked the tower, had "A Drybone Skelleton"

Killed it and some trash, then hung out on the hill by the DE merchants. just a little past 12PM game time, Old One eye was there and died with two shots (Ice Comet and draught of flame).

Proceded to the Innothule for a rapier and found a shadowed man dual weilding.

Unfortunatly Brother Zytle was up and it was getting late. I logged in the next morning, popped into RM to see if Hasten was up, and he was. :) Gated to a bank, got a shammy to buff my STR to 219 (wow) and got my gold, gated to WC, found a shadowed man with a rapier (again) and made my way to Hasten in RM.

Yeah, the ring is the hard part, but the other parts can be a problem too. There are 3 accessable shadowed man camps. WC, Innothule, and Lava. Check them all. (or have guild members help you out) Get Str buff and a sow from a shammy.

Yeah, AA CAN get you jboot speed, but if you GET jboots, you can put those 3 AA points into mana regen or base int. Since AA xp goes about as fast as 51, then you have to be the judge of whether it is worth it.
Single Account Multiquesting
# Jan 11 2002 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
Going to spare the story but I have the Ring of the Ancients on my Bard (kinda worthless there) and I want the boots on my Necro. A guildmate says that it is possible for me to complete the quest for the necro in the following way:

1. Give the Ring of the Ancients & Rapier with Bard
2. Log out the bard while a friend hails the little dude to keep him from moving
3. Give the 3250gp to him with the Necro for the JBoots

Can anyone difinitivly confirm or deny that this would work?

Thanks =)

Well to say the least, I proved my self very lucky by getting my JBoots at 33 without camping. I was juat walking back to FP to sell my loot from Guk and, lo and behold the AC pops righ tin front of me! Of course I immediately set to keeel it. I probably "cheated" someone out of the spawn they were trying to trigger, but anyway, he dropped the ring. It's still hard for me to get over the shock of the AC popping right in front of me. My hand shook during the whole battle. It was hard, I had to LoH and root him and heal myself a lot. Anyway, it conned blue to me at 33 and fell in about 2 mins. Good luck getting those delicious Jboots!

How to make the AC spawn
# Nov 27 2001 at 9:59 AM Rating: Decent
I have read around on sites on how to make the AC spawn. Although it didn't work 100% of the time, it DID work 2/3 times (i only searched the desert half so maybe it popped 3/3 times) for me personally. Go to south ro, clear out all the mobs you can except for at the ruins (tower). At the ruins, only kill things until a dry bone skel pops (which it should around 3pm gametime). Continue to kill everything in the zone, specifically the desert. At 8pm gametime, kill the drybone skellie. Continue to kill everything. AC pops around ~11pm gametime. Could just be a fluke, but I did exactly how it said and had 2 AC pops in 5 hours. The 2nd pop was KSed though and I didn't have another 2 hours to wait till 8pm gametime. Got the stuff for my jboots, but my groupmate did not=(

I was camping the ritualist in CT since I'm so cheap, then I decide omw to OT that I should camp AC in the unlikely scenario that I actually kill him at a measily 35. Well soon boredom over comes me (in like 15 minutes this took place- I have little patients) so I join a group to help kill SG's and what not. After about an hour of killing AC pops and my group was the first ones there, woot! By the time I get there he's about 2/3 dead so I let him taste my Harm Touch and he falls. Afterward we roll for the ring, but I had a 50/50 chance since the 51 SK already had the boots and was just being nice, and the 26 SK never found his way, and the druid, well he was a druid =P. Anyways it ended up being between me and you guessed it another SK (what are the chances) who was 39... he rolled 54 and I rolled 41 (ouch). Anyways I logged on the next day and checked who was in the zone... 60 people, but luckily it was only because of a PoH raid. I look to the north and see the Ugly fool himself and charge as quick as I can, and I'm first to him! I get swift like the wind from a kind chanter and another chanter gave me clarity. Now I got the ring and just logged onto the site to double check the components needed hehe... goodluck camping him if you haven't already =)

According to spdat.eff, The effect of JBoots is a flat-rate 35% increase in speed. SoW uses the formula of 30+level/2, up to a maximum of 55% at level 50. so a level 9 shaman's sow is slower than jboots, a 10-11 shaman does the same, and any other sow is superior to jboots. SoW also lasts 36 minutes, compared to the 18 minutes that the JBoots effect lasts.
RE: Speed
# Nov 02 2001 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
Jboots are slower than SoW, not much slower though. Jboots are a 70% SoW, still fast enough to get away from most mobs, but not all as some are faster the SoW itself

I was running to lguk with my pally thinking to myself about the AC in S'ro and how he's supposed to pop and kill peeps like me just running thru zone...LOL When lo and behold...i see this flash before my chat screen...

A Ancient Cyclops hits you for 66pts of dmg
You are stunned...

As i'm spinning in my lil stun dance cicle i spy with my lil eye...A Ancient Cyclops beating on me or at least trying too...LOL I whip around and proceed to beat him down...i remember KS'ers are rampant in S'Ro...so i look around...see a deep gully and run to it with AC and kill him there. Next thing ya know i'm in WC killing shadowed men for like 4hrs for a stupid rapier. I run to bank for the gold...can't get a sow...run my encumbered bum to RM and no hasten. I hear that brother z is up and won't be going anywhere for like 6 hrs...it's 3am in the morning now in real life...I don't wanna lose my rapier. So I run to pally camp and leave my pally standing in the middle of them. Not one thing hit me...LOL NO LD either...wheew I wakeup 6 hrs later and shout for hasten and he's up by middle of zone...woot run to him...give all items...got me some fresh jboots. But i'm extremely lucky from what i'm told...oh well
gold?

39 wiz here. str tops out at about 67 (maybe in the 80s with a dru str buff). anyway, i cant carry that much coin all at once and realistically hope to catch hasten. does it really have to be gold? there are other quests that specifically ask for gold, but pp works just as well. has anyone tried this with pp? let me know!

RE: gold?
# Oct 16 2001 at 11:38 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes, it has to be gold, but it isnt realy hard to get around. Here is what you do.

1. Get your ring from the AC (Ancient Cyclops)
2. Get your Shadowed Rapier from a Shadowed Man, which is "no-rent" (if you log off at this point, the Rapier will poof)
3. Get the 3,250 gold.
4. Grab a buddy (Rangers and Druids work the best), have them cast Str, and Sow on you and head out there.
5. Once you get there, have your Druid/Ranger track Hasten. Get in his path (you may have to hang out and watch to find out what it is).
6. When he is coming, get your Druid/Ranger friend to run up and hail him as fast as they can. Once they do this, they can keep him "hailed" until you can drag your encumbered butt over there.
7. Give him the stuff, hit trade, and you got um!

Good Luck, and enjoy! Well worth it, this has saved me MANY deaths.
