Damn those druids!!
# Nov 12 2002 at 1:13 AM Rating: Default
there are a few stories of how lucky ppl are in getting them, as a matter of fact my RL friend got them instantly. However, it's now time to hear the horror stories /sigh. I've spent nearly 30 hours camping the AC and nothing yet. Not to mention I all the times I haven't been able to get the camp. however what really burns me is all the druids camping it. Granted it is instant speed and can really help when sow starts to drop, but druids also get SOC (if they don't mind using the spell slot) and that will get them outta there 2x as fast as jboots will and it's nearly instant. Sadly, that isn't even the reason that these druids are camping it. They're camping it b/c they want to twink they're alts (OMG!!!). Even worse than that is the one I ran into tonight. Camping the AC for his level 5 BL alt...LEVEL 5!!! A BL gets SOW. how insensitive do these druids have to be as to claim a VERY rare and VERY sought after spawn just so they can twink an alt...IT'S UNREAL!!!

/rant off

Why shouldn't Druids camp the AC for the Ring of the Ancients?

Granted, Druids (as well as all other SoW casting classes) have no personal need for Journeyman's Boots - in fact, I wouldn't have them if they were droppable and you tried to *give* me a pair - but what about our (non-SoW casting) guildmates, friends, and alternates?

I *don't* want this item so I can MQ it with someone else for money - fact is, when you stop to consider how much *time* it would take for me to 1) camp the AC until he spawns and I actually get the ring, 2) find a perspective 'buyer' for the MQ, and 3) run all over Norrath with that individual until (s)he has obtained a Shadowed Rapier and then managed to catch Hasten Bootstrutter up and chase him down, it just isn't worth it. I can think of a much more productive (and profitable) ways to spend my time if my motive is simply money.

My level 42 Warrior needs JBoots - and so does my level 34 Cleric. Neither can effectively solo the AC in OOT (or the one in SRo, for that matter), neither can cast SoW on themselves, and both are virtually broke all the time - in great part due to the amount of coin they drop on SoW potions and donations for SoW.

Likewise, I have a good friend (who is also a level 55 Druid) who has alts needing JBoots. I camp the AC to MQ the ring with one of his alts, and he returns the favor. This way all of our alts' JBoot needs can be easily met.

And then there are guildmates: those people who cannot SoW themselves, who are good people that would do anything for you (remember that ugly CR in Dragon Necropolis at 4:00am on a Monday morning?), and who are in need of a pair of JBoots. Why shouldn't I be able to camp the AC and MQ the ring with them?

I'm fairly certain that, if you were in my guild and I said to you, "Hey, Agar, I just bagged the AC in OOT - let's go get you a pair JBoots," I wouldn't hear you complaining about it.

Yes, there are those greedy and unimaginative people in EQ who camp something that YOU could easily camp for yourself (if only they weren't there every time you try), and then want to charge you lord-knows-how-much platinum to MQ it with you.

Unfortunately, a lot (but certainly not all) of these folks tend to be Druids. I am not one of them. Please do not lump me into the same category with them (i.e., your rant). When you make generalized complaints and accusations (against ANYone - for ANY reason) you wind up including people who do not meet the criteria for your rant (and who, invariably, also do not appreciate it), *and* you run the (relatively high) risk of making yourself look like a fool.

Respectfully,

Seems obvious that Agar was talking about druids trying to twink they're *ALTS*. not they're guildies, not they're friends, they're ALTS! Also, unless you twink your alts with jboots with your druid, I don't think you're in that category. That didn't seem like a generalized complaint, seemed like he was talking about "druids that twink they're alts with jboots." (could that be anymore general /em tosses on a bit more sarcasm to achieve dripping effect)

Although I have a petition I would like to make...I say that someone goes through and picks out which posts are accuall information and which are ranting. They can take all those rants and put them in their own special area. Because I am sick of trying to get information on stuff and having to sift through all of the trash.

Spawn on island next to cyclops island, PH cyclops, gobby, etc. Also a vendor that sells spells there.

Do you play on the Rathe Server? Because just a while ago i went to Rathe Mountains with a buddy who i was gonna MQ the Jboots for and when we gave Hasten the stuff, he accepted the Gold and the Rapier and gave my friend the Boots yet i still had the Ring on me. When we turned in the Gold and Rapier he said something for each like "When i hold in my hands the Gold, Rapier, and the Ring of the Ancients, you shall wear the Journeymans Boots" but when the Ring was handed in he just gave it back and said something like "Huh? Whats this? I have no need for this item Reptillian, you can have it back". I figured that someone must have just given him the Ring alone on accident when they tried getting the Boots, which explains why he didnt want another Ring (the one i tried turning in), yet he still accepted the Gold and Rapier i had given him and he had given my pal the Jboots. Anyway, i just read your little post about how he ate you ring and wondered, was it you who caused this and maybe this is why it happened? Hehe :)

# Oct 03 2002 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
Did VI change the quest? (or at least the MQable part of it?)

I was helping someone with an MQ and Hasten ate the ring.

I got some language from Hasten saying something like: "No Trade for you until I have the ring, rapier and gold in my hand"

I have helped MQ the ring before and never had this happen. Also my faction is warmly.

people should all die! 2 guys walked in on my camp, 2 lvl 60 didn't bother asking if i was camping the AC, when i asked what they were doing so long in the zone, getting suspicious, they say "Camping AC", hmm thats odd, iv been here for how long, and you think just casue im lvl 41 i can't do it! and then he gives my this ******** excuse, well your a druid, so? I can still use them! saves mana, and a space on my memmed spells, bah jerk, well i fianally left becasue I know i will be KSed, next time I try, every time someone enters the zone I will shout "AC is MINE! So suck it!"
RE: jerks
# Nov 10 2002 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
O.K......now I can understand a druid wanting a pair of these for an emergency escape/opening up a spell slot......but come on, I've NEVER see a druid here that was camping the AC for themselves, I always see the same group of druids here camping the AC, and the next day they will be in the bazaar selling the MQ. SOME people actually NEED these these boots( i.e. all the other classes that CAN'T cast SoW )
RE: jerks
# Oct 14 2002 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
I believe if you try to petition this to a GM they'll say the zone is an open sone,,,so there is no camping. In other words KSing is acceptable here.
RE: jerks
# Nov 25 2002 at 5:01 PM Rating: Decent
THere is no camping in any zone. All mobs are fair game but that doesn't mean KSing is allowed. Once you have engaged the mob it is deamed to be yours. Its just a matter of who tags it first. Although I always leave people alone who are obviously camping a particular spawn, especially one as infrequent as AC.

Same thing happened to me in the Library of the Tower of Frozen Shadow. After two hours of camping, some other grup breezes in and takes the keyholder as it spawns.

Whatever, not much I can do about it. We went back later and got keys for everyone. Life's not fair, and EQ sure isn't either.

I got these last night by multi-questing them. I was trading in the bazaar when I had an offer for the jboots in exchange for my reinforced dragonhide boots. I accepted, provided that all transportation would be provided and it could be done very quickly.

The ancient ring and the rapier were both provided, and I just had to give the 3250 gold at the appropriate time. Everything went very smoothly and I now have my jboots which is sure nice for us slow classes. People may question an exchange of mq jboots for reinforced dragonhide boots, but I paid 8k for them, so overall I think it was beneficial to everyone.

Thanks again to Tillendale who expertly arranged everything, and to the wizard who teleported me from the nexus and back, as well as escorted me with levitate and invis. Terribly sorry that I forget her name right now, but she too was great.

Bagged this baby after a solid 8 hour camp. Solo with a 52 Shammy and pet. Walk in the park. Peeps were polite on Bristlebane enquiring if the camp was free.

I occaisionally risked it and pulled Sea Furies over to relieve the boredom.

# Aug 07 2002 at 8:39 AM Rating: Decent
I probably had the single most luckiest night last night. Me (52 warrior) and a 52 shammy were camping Seafury isle last night in oot, when someone did a /ooc Tired of camping AC, i'm leaving, camp is open.
Well.. after a brief (0.2 second) discussion with shammy friend, we decided to take over his camp after we dropped this seafury cyc we were killing.
We both get to AC isle and i did a run around the island once, maybe like 20 seconds total on the island looking for PH's and stuff, when i hear..... crunch..crunch..
Instantly i thought, no way. AC already? wtf? so i run towards the sound, and yep. he up. Needless to say, he dropped pretty quick with me tanking and shammy's jbb. Looted the ring, ran back to seafury isle, and kept on killing. Total time looking for AC, less than 30 seconds. Total time killing AC, 40 seconds. Not a bad minute in my books. (my ring since shammy already had insta-click sow epic boots)

Oh wait, there's more. Then my 46 Ranger friend logs in and i send him a tell. He volunteers to track the little guy in RM. Sounds good. Off to WC, kill shadowed men camp, get rapier. Druid port to Feerrott. and we be in RM in 5 minutes. Instantly when we get in the zone, ranger says "got a ph on track". aight. we kill the drake and proceed to HG hill to farm plat waiting for Hasten to spawn. After pulling 3 HG's, i go out to get another, ranger says "he's on track". i'm like, Hasten? really?. he goes, yep. tracking now. Run him down in about 40 seconds, had ranger keep on hailing him while i handed him the stuff. woot. Jboots mine.
Total playing time, 1 hour. tops. including banking in FP and waiting to meet up with friends.

I know it's total luck, but i just had to share my crazy story with you guys. And the guy that gave up the AC camp? a big thanks. oh. and i got 4 blue xp on seafury isle too. heh.

# Jul 30 2002 at 8:57 AM Rating: Decent
I am curious as to what to do with my AC ring. Currently, my 52 druid has them in the bank and I was wondering 2 things: 1. Should I just get the jboots for my druid (I know the jboots are instant cast but I still have other speed enhancing spells) 2. Or can I MQ the ring with my 20ish necro? They are both on the same account so is it possible to get the jboots by having the druid hand in the ring/rapier log out & then in agin with the necro and then hand in the gold? Thanks for the info...
RE: Which One?
# Nov 12 2002 at 12:48 AM Rating: Decent
would be really hard (as in nearly impossible) to MQ it would characters on the same account. Hasten moves around really fast (at jboots speed =P) so by the time it took you to camp to your necro and log back in, he'd be gone and you'd have to find him. Then by the time you found him, the time would be up for you to hand in the stuff for the MQ part of it. (and this is all assuming that you camp your necro right where you plan to find him)

Well since SOL now you can get up to 30% faster run speed with AA exp at level 51 that is constant and works inside. But doesn't stack with any other run spells. So since I don't have the cash to spend on Multiquesting these and have spent too many hours trying to camp the AC just to watch a level 60 come by and ks it. I now have hope of out running a mob now. I know this post really isn't helpful but if you can't seem to get these quickly then just wait and level up and put 3 AA points into run speed =0)

They increase your speed by 35%, a speed equal to a level 11 Spirit of Wolf spell. You should almost always take a SoW over the ability if you can, though with these boots you can be sure the effect will not fade.
how to carry 3250 gold
# Jun 10 2002 at 6:21 AM Rating: Good
I am a wizard so obviously I brought a druid with me to help track Hasten. I didn't think of this till after Bro Z spawned and we called it a night. I didn't want the rapier to go away, but I wanted to log, so I had the druid kill me (I bound myself just before) and didn't loot my corpse. I realized then i was moving much more quickly even dragging around this heavy heavy corpse. So, if you need to go somewhere bad and are very encumbered, just have someone kill you and drag your corpse around :)

I am straying a bit from the original intent of this forum, but not completely. J-boots are quick click items. You stick them in your inventory (don't have to wear them) and right click them. Yes, you can click them while running.

One of the cool things about quick click items is that if they get dispelled, you can reclick them during a fight to provide some protection from your true buffs. I think this is the reason alot of raiding guilds demand that their applicants have at least one click-buff item.

yes, very beneficial against mobs that will dispel you. I would much rather lose my insta-click sow than HoS or augmentation or any other nice buff. It's not like I'm going to run during a dragon raid lol

Indeed, these are called dummy buffs when Dragon AoE Dispell. You DON'T want your important buffs to wear out on a Dragon Raid ! JBoots, Bracer of the Hidden, Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring are all items for dummy buffs.
RE: Quick Click
# Nov 12 2002 at 12:54 AM Rating: Decent
Dispells are random now, so "quick click" items (aptly named) only protect your buffs by lessening the chance that they will be taken away. Sadly, you can't just reclick it back up and save all of your buffs anymore =(

Ok, I must be one of the lucky ones. I zoned into Sro at 9:45 am and had only killed about 5 mobs when the AC spawned and no one was there (7 in the whole zone). I spent the next 2 hours trying to get another AC for a group member with no luck. Killed everything in the area. Then went to WC for Shadowmen, got the Rapier on the 3rd spawn cycle. Then off to RM, it took 3 and a half hours for Hasten to spawn. Total time spent gettign J Boots, 5 and a half hours. A quick note, I had a 39 Druid bind at Hasten and zone to Misty Thicket, run to RV and get the cash and gate back as it is hard to run with that amount of weight.

AC Spawning
# May 18 2002 at 3:19 AM Rating: Decent
Ok heres what i know.. The AC is on a spawn table of Randoms/Rares that spawn in Sro.. if you continually kill the randoms/rares More will pop Heres the list of Mob's that ive compiled so far SG's, Scrounge, "A drybone skeleton", Sand mummy's, Rattlesnakes (they're rare as heck in Sro), "a dervish cutthroat" (the wandering one, all lowercase), Terror, SG Husam, Orc Raiders (also very rare in Sro), "crypt mummy" (no "a")... Im sure there are more but its 430 in the morning and my brain is fried.. Also ive found that killing the umpteen million spiders that spawn after a Terror killing helps the spawns of the Random/rares... please reply to the post if you know of more mob's that need added here. And good luck.. :)

On Druzzil Ro MQ Jboots are worth 5k.

1). Placeholders are drake, maldyn, Bro Z, and Hasten.
2). They can be found where the hill giants are located at. #19 on EQ AtlasMap +0/+1500. They wander, so no exact location of spawn point.
3). Spawn rate is 6-7 minutes after the placeholder is killed. Despawn for Bro Z is random.
4). At Lake Rathe don't swim, run along the side of the mountain, much faster.

This quest don't seem worth it. Sure it would be nice to move faster but it only increases movement speed by 35%. This is a feat any level 5 bard can beat. My main character being a mage I would rather keep the ring of the ancients then use it in the quest,(obviously some people missed this part) IF AT A (hint, hint -->)HIGHER LEVEL(<-- hint, hint) I GOT SOMETHING BETTER THEN I WOULD GET JBOOTS. Not to mention all the people that will try to ks the ac on you and waiting for it to spawn. If they still dropped in Najena I'd get them.
=================================================
Edit: Use the 300pp to buy 3 ten dose sow potion
6 ac +5int is not bad even for level 39(a level which soloing the ac should be easy for an int caster such as a wizard, mage or necromancer). At level 33 I only have a polished bone bracelet which has 2ac +3wis +3int. The ring of the ancients would be a nice upgrade from my PBB. For the level it takes(40 and below) to get the ring of the ancients there is all most nothing better(as far as bonuses to intellegince is concerned). If I've offended anyone too bad this is the way feel about this subject so :P

RE: Reasons for Jboots
# Jul 02 2002 at 9:29 PM Rating: Decent
It's fairly obvious.
1) The 3250gp you pay on turn in is good for the rest of your character's life. One time cost.
2) How many times have you found yourself crossing dangerous or long zones, wishing you had a sow? Sow potions are finite. Eventually you WILL run out.
3) How many times have you soloed, gained agro on a critter, and had to run like heck either because your root/snare didn't stick, or you over-agroed your pet. If the critter is worth any XP at all to you, you'll get a good beating before you stick a root on him and get out of harms way.
4) Being nailed by a dispel magic that drops your sow is a joke. You reclick, and voila, sow again.
5) You don't have to wear the boots. Have golden efreet's myself, with Jboots in an inventory slot for quick click.
6) If you decide to keep the AC ring for its stats, you should be pummeled mercilessly. MQ the damned thing, make 3K, and buy a frigging useful item for stats. Don't deny someone the right to have jboots because you think they're unnecessary.
7) Kiting... Wizards, get jboots as soon as you can. At level 29, bind of force is the beginning of the end for mobs, and jboots make you into the most devastating, quick effect artillery piece quad-kiters in the world of Norrath.
8) Last point... if you can't immediately see the use in jboots, even before reading this post... it's time to switch to an easier game to comprehend... Like Tic-Tac-Toe.

great post - as a rogue, I'm a sitting duck in large open zones (or even small ones) once my sow fades. Sure, I can sneak/hide my way through but some mobs see through it and it takes forever (try sneak/hiding through DL to FV or FM).
RE: why?
# Jun 08 2002 at 5:53 PM Rating: Default
Ok here is why, unlike magicians wizards like being able to move fast. We can kite stuff, with root nuke... but if it breaks root or resists we have to be able to run from it... thats where this item comes in handy. Now you magicians on the other hand can use your pets to tank stuff... we get familiars, but they don't fight genius. at 33 you have 1 PBB? thats a wrist lost first off... second off the spawn that drops PBB was green to me at 29... go kill another one. Or go find an Enchanter and get him to make you some int rings.. it goes up to +7 if you can find a really high lvl enchanter and have the pp to pay for it

I am amazed that anyone would think this way. I guess you have never had your life depend on reaching the zone before the mob hits you again, when suddenly that Spirit of the Wolf boot starts flashing, then you slow down.

With Jboots, you just quickly click your inventory slot hotkey, where you keep your jboots (without stopping to do it), and wham, you're running fast again. Not as fast as SOW, but a whole lot faster than without. Also, notice the other two key things: 1)you can cast while running, and 2) its instant, no cast time.

Without Jboots, my cleric couldn't even travel without bumming a SOW, or getting in a group. With them, its a whole lot easier. Try going from Karnor's Castle to FV, without SOW or JBoots a few times, and you'll see what I mean.

And, no a bard doesn't need these. And for SOW classes they are not CRITICAL, but for the rest of us, these are ESSENTIAL. Completely necessary. Would not want to have to do without them.

And yes, I do know a druid who has some, and he swears they have saved his life at least 6 times.

Im confused. At with Strength buffs. if you have a weapon or item PROCK for trength, that will STACK with a STRENGTH buff.'

you can have
1. effect
1. buff
1. prock

alll stack. so will this STACK over speed? or will the SOW or whatever just over ride it? Like whichever is faster?

and yea. instant sow. no begging... and basically always safe from a normal mob.... yea, must be nice.

actually procs that stack with other buffs are usually random, I.E. not clicky, don't know if sow overrides the jboot effect, but I do know that if you're wearing these and grouped with a bard TAKE THEM OFF!! even if you're not useing them the fact that you're wearing them will keep selos from sticking on you.. just like if you have a sow on TURN IT OFF!! nothing worse then tring to get to a camp quick with a group and fireing up selos with a MM drum, and haveing to stop every three steps because someone refuses to give up their preasious SOW

her hum... ok, well first of all, not all of us are bards, so we all cant be moving at super speed all the time. another thing is that by the time you are able to kill the AC, you should have, or be able to get a better ring than the one used in this quest, i am a druid and i stil want some jboots... sure all of my speed spells are better, but this is INSTANT cast, meaning i can get away from bad situations quickly. plus, many of the more uber guilds out there require an instant speed/sow item...

I got lucky on getting the ring off AC, only took me 5 minutes at Sro. Waiting for Hasten to spawn was the hard part, Bro Z was always up. Took around 2-3 hours to complete the whole quest. When you're at the lake walk on the side of the mountain and dont swim, much faster. Also make a note on the PlaceHolders, Bro Z, Maldyn, Drake, and Hasten. Only one can be active at a time, so if u want Hasten to appear you have to kill the other placeholders and hoping Hasten will show up. Spawn time is around 6 minutes.

Stock Inventories in SolA

I'd like to pursue an alternate method of aquireing Jboots: buying them. I'm under the impression that they can be purchased inside SolA in the Gnome Mining Colony. Since I'm a Gnome, my only problem should be getting past the legion of Fire Goblins to the Mining Company.

Has anybody ever tried purchasing the JBoots from there and can tell what the pricing is?

Got the AC last evening. I believe the PH is the jackal (although I thought it was a wolf) named Scrounge. Saw him on track, killed him & shortly later the AC spawned. Sandgiant Husam spawned before Scrounge. Scrounge drops a pelt. If you look up the pelt, someone has made a similar comment, they killed Scrounge & then AC spawned. I have been in SRO quite alot to kill SG's and this is the first time I have ever seen Scrounge. Happy hunting, and I recommend you get a tracker. :)

Btw, I am going to multi-quest the boots for a rogue friend of mine. He will be quite pleased!
