Yesterday I was able to score a pair of these bad boys. The evening before a ranger and I camped the AC on the Seafury island. We slayed and slayed those nasty Seafuries until AC popped. So he does exist on the island and can be spawned by sanitizing the island of clops.
The shadowed men evaded me for about 15 minutes while I tooled around the "new" combined commonlands (who's a returner? this guy!). They are in the Southwest corner hunkered behind the last hill of the desert. Got the shadowed rapier off the first group. I was able to handle them easily as a 42 ENC.
Here was the difficult part. Locating Hasten. He is a slippery little cuss. I must have killed EVERYTHING (decaying skeleton, skeleton, lizardmen of all types, fire beetles, basilisks, giant skeletons, gians and "a drake", but never saw Brother Zephyl who is apparently also a PH for him) coming through the crossroads just to the West of the Feerott zone for a couple hours, no dice. I wanted to log, but didn't want to lose my rapier so I parked up on the hillside and left my char logged in until the next afternoon. Came back the next day and started to work my way through the path that Thoddy listed on Hasten Bootstrutter's bestiary page (http://www.eq-gamers.de/pic/Bootstrutter.jpg) and lo and behold, Hasten was making his way back from a visit to the group of buildings that includes an inn listed as his turnaround point on Thoddy's map. Game him the ring, rapier and 325PP and got the boots. Yay!
Just to clarify the boots DO work indoors. Tested this with my mount which wouldn't summon indoors, but the jboots would. So, they are still worth having for those of us (me) that haven't put in the effort to collect the fabled ones from Najena.

AC popped on seafury island last night. finished j boots quest with ease. 71 iksar sk.

Well after he spawned today and we did the journey boot quest with him, I decided to follow him. He does not behave like he use to, running that loop counter clockwise west of the Ferrott zone. Now he just walks which makes it very easy to hail him and he just does one path and despawns. It seems that he spawns in the box canyon north of the Ferrott zone where the sphinx's are (the 2 named sphinxs are now in the same place) loc +3000 -3350. I am not certain of this because the first time we saw him was at the 4 way intersection at the Ferrott zone, and he was coming from the north. We did our turn in at the intersection and then I followed him. He pathed west from the intersection to the monument with the 3 named scarabs. Then he went north, walked through the builds label "Inn,gems merchant" on the map then a little bit further northwest to loc +4530 -1550 where he stopped for 30 seconds and went back the way he came. At the named scarab monument he went south and took the old pathing he use to do. He went east with the bottom of the "island/mountain" on his north side, where he stopped one more time at loc -340 -525 for 30 seconds, then continued on to the 4 way intersection west of ferrott zone. Through the intersection north back to the named sphinx's canyon to where I think his spawn spot is (+3000 - 3350) and depopped. Just one trip and he is up for maybe 10 minutes unless he is hailed.

A Drake spawns at 2713.15, -2074.88 in Rathe Mountains... Got Hasten to spawn but didn't actually see him spawn... I apparently missed him running by me. After about 10 to 15 minutes of watching the spawn point for the Drake I went and checked the path. Only took me 4 or 5 A Drake kills to get him to pop.
Also killed Hasten for fun... Didn't drop anything and no faction hits.

AC still spawns on the center lil island, facing the island that spawns several Seafury Cyclops. Mudtoes and several SC are PHs. There is one thing that Bites for 500+ occassionally on the island, watch out for it. Never saw it, just got eaten by it. Also Hasten, in Moutains of Rath, is easy to get to if you sit at the cross-road that goes to Freerot, face the way to giant's and just kill what comes from that direction and you will see him a ways away coming to you.

in OOT teh random mobs dont pop anymore. only Boog Mudtoe pops now. this started with undersea release. anyone seen the ancient pop since then in 2007?

Zoned into South Ro cause of a person bragging about the AC just waiting there for them at Zone line. I didn't see it until I passed the DE camp and went up a hill and saw a cyclops with a spear. I said to myself it couldn't be that easy. Conned it. Light blue conning 'an Ancient Cyclops'. A mintue or so later it was "an Acient Cyclop's corpse" and I had my ring.

Got the jboots today for my 38 cleric, can't say I soloed them but almost. I think the hardest part was spawnen Bootstrutter. After he did show up off to the OOT I went.
Spent a couple hours killen ph on island some white some yellow and even some red, Have a SHM on our team so we are all potion junkies. Had some close calls but never lost the fight totally, the worst part was reds would not root had to chase all around island. Than a 50+? mage showed up said he'd like to just sit and wait, well I told him plse feel free to throw any magic you like, after only a few more ph's their he was the anc cyclops coned yellow, buffed and potioned up I set in. HE HITS HARD. Got me down to 35% and I begged the mage for help BOOM 2 zips and he was down. The mage killed him so I could not loot rite away, oh was I worried I wanted that ring. Finally after many trys looten and the mage tellen me to be calm it was mine. Woot Woot!
Now off to Lesser faydark for the rapier, that one was easy 4 or 5 shadowed men and I had it.

No! Look at the picture, it'll show the "no drop" phrase on it. They are only tradeable on the Firiona Vie server, but be prepared to pay upwards of 5k each for these there as of the time of this post.
Hasten's Pathing is Diff now.
We killed the Drake by the OLD HG hill and Hasten popped just north of the Lake Rathe Zone in Area.

Now that rath is the new home of the Froglocks, Hasten can be found along the trail east of the Ferrot zone-line.
Also, his spawn timmer and running habbits have changed. He is on about a 15min timmer. He no longer runs fast. He strolls at a nice even pace, making him easy to catch.

3rd try for the ring (twinking a friend's lvl 17 gnome mage), never even saw clops first two tries,
only thing I did different 3rd try was kill the undead and that erudite at the sunken tower. Doubt that has anything to do with it, but I did get a lot more SG pops....all cheap bastages tho.
Finally got tired of my pet slashing everything in sight, sat down, started watching WPT while occasionally looking at the screen....15 mins later, hello, Mr. 'Clops. And thanks for the ring.

Per the general advice listed here, I spent an hour wacking everything I could find. Cleaned out the temple 4 or 5 times; if it crawled or walked (...and a few that slithered...), I killed it. Nothing. Gave up for the night, came back in the next day, and guess who was coming up the rise when I crested the first sand dune?
I have no real contribution to random vs PH. I was the only one in the zone when successful, but ya never know.

Alright, Im going to tell you what we did as of 2/3/05, 10:30 real time.
Let me set the scene. It's just me and my friend Rygor, in Sro. People come in and out. I am a 36 mage, he is a 23 Warrior. We simply did the following, all times are in game time:
5pm-9pm: Random killings, spiders, undead, everything
9pm: The necro at the tower is up, kill him, then kill "crypt mummy" inside the tower
9pm-10pm: Random killings, killed necro and mummy in tower once more each.
11pm: Terrantula spawns, he is whooping our butts, luckily some guildies were in the zone so they came and killed it.
2am: I look over the hill just north of the tents, and low and behold, a giant cyclops running around with a spear. We simply meleed it to death, since I couldnt land a single nuke. He was very easy. When he was at 10% though, a sand giant came up and started hitting us, this is a problem. The AC is easy, but the giants are too strong for us. I run like hell, Rygor stays back, kills the AC, loots the ring, and sprints to Oasis, I gate out and we live to fight again. Now we are off to do the turn in.
MY SUGGESTIONS
--Kill any spiders, undead, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the guys at the sunken tower. Feel free to kill other things too, not sure if they are related or not
--We did not kill a single giant
--We killed the Terr. once
--Killed 2 Terr.-ings
--Spawned AC, simple as that.
I hope this is helpful, this is my second time killing this bugger. Now I need to do it twice more and Im done with him forever. Wish me luck.

Ok guys. I am a lvl 17 Rogue. I spent a couple of days going out to south ro just to see if i might get lucky and see the AC, but not hanging out very long. I get tired of hearing ppl tell me that a lvl 17 is too low to get these dam boots so I am going to get them. Well last night I was going to dedicate my entire night camping out and waiting for the AC. Without SoW my journey was slow getting out there because I was "Hiding and Sneaking" all the was out there to reduce the risk of dieing. I got out about 4:45 my time. headed just north of the camp that is just east of the undead tower. Campped out on the top of the hill. Wasn't sure how long it would take to pop but was going to hang out till it did, even if i couldn't kill it. HE POPPED 5:30!!!. I could have crapped my pants. I didn't kill a thing to make him pop. nothing. I would have had to come out of "hide" to attack anything and that wouldn't be a smart thing to do being a lvl 17 and alone in south ro.... I considered maybe trying to pickpocket it and running for the zone because he, of course, /con ed red to me. So i figured that whenever he got close to the zone i would give that a shot. but in the mean time i was "/ooc anyone want to come kill the Ancient Cyclops for me and leave me the Ring of the Ancient." haha after about 10 minutes of following the cyclops around and saying that, sure enough someone came over and they /con ed blue and they enjoyed the kill. They got the other ring he had and 41 pp and guess what they left me :):):). I have had the Rapier, i made the mistake of getting that first. lol. lost it when i campped. if i would have known what the hell a "no rent" item was i would still be logged on. I am still short about 200 pp so now i am going to spend a little time in Black Burrow tonight looting and killing. soon will be the end of my begging for SoW.

So, you just disproved yourself...obviously level 17 is too low to get the boots if you had to rely on a passerby's kindness. And for the record, the ring from the AC is Magic and I don't think PickPocketing would work.

Pwedge I don't see why you want these so badly. Sure it's unlimited charges but it's about half the speed of SOW. Just make friends with a shammy and try and get free 10 Dose Blood of the Wolf from him. That's what I do with my younger brother.
Don't believe me on the speed, just read the spell data. 35% is same as Selo's. Not really all that great, believe me I play a Bard everynow and then fer the heck of it.

Heh well your wrong. At level 50 Selos is 65% and Drums even Modify that, most good bards are faster than the best horses and drogmors (with Instrument mastery AA and fleet of foot AA) So Selos is WAY better than what you say it is and WAY better than these boots.
He probably wants the boots because they are unique its a cool thing to have especially if you have no other way of providing extra speed for yourself. And you can use this to boost the speed at which you sneak/hide which is also useful for a rogue.

i did get them and i am very happy with them. i know they are only increase your run speed by 35% and SoW is 50%. but it isn't easy trying to find SoW when you are running for you life through the desert of s. ro. and i am new to this game and don't have alot of the pp. in fact to get the 325 pp i needed to get just get the boots i had spent 3 days killing willowisps in west commonlands and qeynos hills. lol. i don't have alot of money to spend on potions that run out. i want ry'gorr or ravenscale armor. (prefer ry'gorr) so if you have any to donate to a worthy cause you can find me on the maelin starpyre server after 5pm est. lol.
i would have been a lvl 18 when i got the boots but since i fell into a trap and died 10 times trying to get my corpse back i got the boots at lvl 17 :). i am back up to 18 now though. for all that are concerned.

I can conffirm that U can give Hasten PP instead of gold. I did this for a friend who had forgotten her Gold. We gave him Plat. instead and it worked fine. This was on Xev server.
I am actually on the Firiona Vie server and having one hell of a issue! The AC is obviously very Blue to a level 45 Necro in OoT. I lucked out tonight and had a 45 minute wait, got the pop, and headed off to get buffed. I figured hey, NP< I'll go kill a few SM's in SK or LFay and poof, go make my turn in.

Trivial Loot code is in effect for the Shadowed Man spawns. Which means any LORE or No Drop items they drop, WON'T if you get no exp from them, or anyone in your group gets no exp from them. How the holy hell am I supposed to get the damned rapier? I shouldn't have to rely on someone being around low enough to kill the damned things for me, that is BS.

Ok, I was in SRo today with a few guidlies to pick this ring up. We killed Ghoul of Takish-Hiz twice and Terrorantula once. We also killed various spiders and undeads. He spawned dead north of the merchants at around 8am game time. Killed him with ease with a few 40-50s. I do not know the specific loc of the spawn but I saw him fall and it was straight north of the merchants. He walks a triangle from the merchants to one Derv camp, then to the other camp, then back to the merchants. Torv, 9/5/04.

Camped him starting yesturday. Took a few hours of killing the Sand Giant and for good measure I killed the spawn in the little temple, the skellie that hangs there, kind of NE side middle of the sand area. Also killed the Terrorantula as a bonus. Tracking is the key. Sand Giants pop close to the north east side and the Ancient Cyclops popped on the NW side. Long, rare spawn as you know.
Once my son's Pally got the Ring of the Ancients rest was easy. Ported us to WC went right up to the Shadowmen area and the first one I killed dropped the Shadow Rapier.
Next, I ported us to Farrott ran to RM and went to the path area south of the Hill Giant Hill. I did exactly what some of the messages about Hasten said to do.
I camped right in the middle of the path at -863, +477 while my son's Pally stayed up on the hill, safe from danger.
I killed 2 "a drake", 2 "Balisk", hit my tracking and bang there Hasten was. Put him on track and kept turning in the direct he was coming from.
Once I saw him flying towards me I targeted him and started hitting my "H" key. He stopped dead in his tracks about 15-20 feet from me and asked what I needed.
Had my son's Pally run down and hail him. Then he handed him the Ring of the Ancients, Shadowed Rapier, and 325 pp all at once. Now he has some nice new boots and does have to bug me for a SoW!! =)
BTW, we did this while in Wolf Form, just in case we had to make a run for it at some point. Hasten likes puppies I guess.

BTW, we did this while in Wolf Form, just in case we had to make a run for it at some point. Hasten likes puppies I guess.

I camped the ring in OoT with my friend. 6 minutes between spawns on the island with the mage selling spells. Not one popped, and we waited a while (he had waited more than 10 hours). We gave up...
Later on that day, I took my Shadowknight, lvl 47, into South Ro, just to take a swing at the AC because maybe I would have a better chance here. Beat on things that moved or looked at me funny for a long while (of course, I dont have track, so I was really taking a long shot here).
A level 16 paladin friend of mine sent me a tell and said "Some kind of cyclops is over here...but someone's killing it"

He came around a second time, ran up and almost was on top of him (you're ganna need SoW, flks..)- hailed him about 17 times, and he finally turned around.
Gave him the coins, rapier, and my AC ring...crossed my fingers..and the J-boots are mine.
I right clicked the boots, smiled, snared Bootstrutter, feared him, and proceeded to beat the living gnome-substances out of him. He gives good exp at level 47, hits for about 100 max, doesn't drop any coin or loot, but makes a wonderful sound when he dies.

Here is the low down. The jboots (not the fabled jboots)have nott been nerfed to the lvl of 50. I would post a screen shot but I don't know how to do it. So, if someone would tell me how to do it I will post it.

Can anyone confirm if the NPC in rathe mountsins still spawns? I've been after him for a while and have had no luck. It has been suggested that he no longer spawns because there are now Fabled Jboots...
...any ideas?

If the Monk (Cant remember name ) or A Drake or an unkempt druid are up then hasten will not be for a drake or druid just kill them but if monk is up you have to wait till he despawns or get a really good group to kill him waiting on hasten the most i waited was 3 hours i had druid with me checking track and all went well.

I saw him earlier today, I think he has a few placeholders, but I don't know for sure. Also the AC still drops the ancient ring, so I have to assume the quest still works.

As of April 28, 2004 the text claiming that is has a required lvl of 50 is now gone with today's patch. (at least it was gone from the jboots my 46 pally has) Thank god Sony didn't nerf one excellent mid-game item!
I also just got the AC to spawn today and I will complete the quest tonight with an alt, I'll post again to confirm that the required lvl is NOT in effect (hopefully).

Well, I can't offer proof in the form of a screen shot or anything right now, I'm at school. But I have Jboots on my 46 pally. They do claim to have a required lvl of 50, but mine still work and I can still equip them if I want. I will try to get them with my 34 necro this weekend and I will let you know if they work.
If they have to put a required lvl on them at all, 50 is just plain stupid. 30 is more reasonable.

I just did this quest May 2, 2004. The Boots I received had NO required or recommended level. The info on the current screenshot above matches the right-click info on my boots, except that an aug slot and a description of the JourneymanBoots effect is included.
I repeat, there is *no* recommended or required level on Jorneyman's Boots. I am able to equip and click them on my level 20 mage with no problems.
I make no claim about the Fabled Journeyman's Boots. I haven't seen those yet.

OK, I'm going to amend my statement. I went and camped the AC today and got jboots for my 44 cleric. While indeed the boots claim a required lvl of 50 for the effect, I was able to right-click and cast. I guess it's just an error with the screen display.

Anyone know if these stack with SoW, Runspeed AA, or Selo's?
They stack with... none of those.
Run 3 is 33% if I am not mistaken. Jboots will speed you up a TEENY bit.
Won't even stick if Sow, SoE or other runspeed buff is cast.
Doesn't stack with selo's either, you get bard speed, not bard speed +.
You can cast when on horseback, but doesn't affect your speed until you dismount.

Ok, the reply I am responding to, is filtered out by the default filter, but the point is important enough that I want to address it anyway.
With Selo's AND Jboots, the ICONS stack, meaning you have both boot icons up on your screen at the same time. This can be a nice thing, if you happen to run too far from the bard, or lag, and selos drops. However, the EFFECTS do not stack. If you have selos on, and click the jboots, you DO NOT speed up, only the highest speed modifier applies. Its just like horses and sow. You can summon a horse, and have sow icon up, but the horse runs at its regular speed.

I want to thank all who posted on this site - it was great information and I finally finished this quest yesterday.
As far as the AC spawn? - I thought I was onto something with all the posts that said he spawned at 3AM; however, he spawned for me on New Year's Day at 2PM ET (3PM game time) and not again (from what I'm told from others) until I saw him again at 5:30PM Sunday!!
Ah well..my cleric has the boots and she's a happy camper - thanks again everyone..:)

i heard these are now sold by gnomes in the soleusek Mining company in Soleusek's Eye. It says they're no drop, but if their sold, maybe they changed that. Anyone know for sure wether these are truly sold now?
Traveller's boots are sold, but are also no drop.
The difference is, T-boots have a casting time, while these can be cast while running. It really does make a difference.
While you cannot buy these, you CAN buy a multiquest of them, usually for around 3-5k on my server.

I went to go buy the T-boots (in Sol. A) with my Dark elve sk(it was easy to fight mt way to the merchant with a 52 sk), and the little gnome merchant wouldnt sell me the darn T-boots... The merchant was located in the gnome palace in Solsek's eye(sp?)I was bummed. Then it was back to the desert to try and get the AC to spawn.. Sheeeezzz

I decided to go to S ro to wait on the AC yesterday. I needed new boots because my others decayed on my corpse a while back *crinch*. I ran around the zone just killing stuff, including that lame little necro down in that valley, dervs and 1 SG, and little stuff. While my pet was beating on a skeleton, I heard that loud stomping sound from behind me (all you giant killers know what I'm talking about) thought another SG had spawned when he walked right on top of me (and, surprisingly, did not aggro) but it was the Ancient Cyclops! I whooped up on him and got the ring. I was there only 30mins, which was VERY nice.
Hasten, though, when it came to getting him to spawn, was a different story...

Ok kind of a dumb question, but don't know much about MQ. Does that mean if I get the ac ring, only 1 other person can come with me and get a pair also? Camped AC last night for 8 hours with no pop, gonna try again today. Anyone know best area to find Hasten??

Not exactly. MQ simply lets the person who has the ring get the boots for someone else. You turn in the ring to Hasten, they then turn in the rapier and the gold and ONLY THEY get the JBoots.

It works on a LOT of quests. However, it must be a quest that has multiple items to turn in, and everyone involved in the MQ, must have adequate faction with the quest giver.
For example, Skyshrine armor can be MQ, since it requires the turnin of a looted armor piece, and several gems. However, BOTH characters MUST be ALLY to CoV (dragon faction) to do successfully.
Other quests cannot be MQ, usually they only have one item to turn in, or require the items to be put into a box and combined, and the combined item be turned in.
And of course, the only reason to MQ, is if the pieces are no drop. I know someone who MQed a cloak of greater pernicity (yes its possible), but then I pointed out that every piece but one for the quest is droppable, as is the cloak, so no MQ was really needed. Just give all the droppable pieces to the person with the no drop one, and transfer the cloak to whomever when done.

Ive seen the AC pop in OOT 2 times in 20min then not again for another 36 hours. I SO wish they would make it where there is a max time when he will be forced to spawn!

in OOT, if you are 50+ camping AC, you can kill Seafury Cyclopses that spawn directly west of AC island (west of sister island)... they drop 50pp gems, 5pp a kill, and gornit occasionally spawns, with 40pp loot when u kill him

If you're over 50, it would be faster to grind out 3 aa and get runspeed 3, rather than jboots.
Unless of course you are planning to sell the MQ, or have a low level alt camped on the island to loot the ring.

Can anyone post the /LOC where the AC spawns? Is it on the island with the other giants? I'm a level 37 necro and these would save my life more than I can say.

best place is in sro it spawns more there,it spawns fairly close to mummys tomb. keep killing mummys.took me like 20 minutes AC poped.might take longer maybe i timed it good :)

This quest was a bit of a bear, becuase the AC spawns very randomly, and very rarely (unless you get real lucky).
There was two of us who were camping the ocean of tears AC Island, a 39 Mage, and a 41 Cleric. We came to the camp, to find that there was only a friendly druid at the camp, who offered to let us camp the spot, while she helped. After about an hour of killing PH's, the druid had to depart, and we continued to camp the spot. About an hour later, the AC had popped, and we were extremely excited to see it, as we had heard the horror stories of camping the AC island for over a day! We killed the AC fairly easily, rooting, nuking, and using the fire elemental pet as the tank.
We camped the spot for about 5 or 6 hours after we had killed the AC, and at that point everyone was basically exhausted after a day of EQ'ing, we decided to camp, and pick up where we left off the next day.
We arrived at the camp the next day, and found that there was an enchanter camping the spot, and we patiently waited our turn to camp AC Island. After about an hour or two, she left us the camp, and we stayed there killing the PH's over and over for about 11 hours, and there was no AC to be found. The gems that dropped were the fire emerald, sapphire, some mug's of sea foam, emerald ring, pearl necklace, etc. These gems are worth a fair bit, and we sold them to the High Elf in the tower on top of AC Island, getting anywhere from 45pp -> 90pp per item. Not bad for a days work, I ended up scoring almost 300pp from gems and coins from the kills. At this point we were pretty much exhausted again, so we left the island, to get some sleep in RL.
Upon waking the next day, the spot had been camped pretty much the entire day, so I decided to practice my swimming in the ocean of tears, and killed some reef sharks, and sharks, which ended up being kinda fun, all things considered :) I think I may have camped the AC for a total of about an hour that day, and nada.
On the 4th day (?), we got to the Island, and there was two friends who were camping the spot, so we decided to wait in line like good players, and just offer company to the two friends who were camping the island. After about 30-45 minutes, they had left the camp to us, and to our amazement, the very next spawn was the AC ! I had been AFK for a moment while the AC popped, and the mage was over anxious to see this dirty AC dead, he began to attack the AC. Unfortunatly, I think he had pulled the aggro from the nukes, and the AC clobbered him. I came back to find myself being beat on, so I rooted him, mem blur'd him, and took a big step back. The mage had came back, looted his corpse, re-summoned the pet, and we took the AC on again (not being full on mana, making this a challenge), however, this time we had both died, due to anxiety, as well as being disoriented from the previous death. Luckily we were bound near the dock where the little gnome translocator was, so it was just a quick swim back to the island (see, practicing swimming pays off !! hehehehe). We had took another attempt at the AC, as he was now down to about 50% or lower, and not being full on mana, and not having all the spells memmed, we had both died once again. So, we went back to AC island, and this time, being completely and totally angry with this mob, we only had to get about 30% more before he would fall to the ground, dead before our feet. And it was finally done ! AC is dead, after 4 days of camping (not continuous), worth about 15 hours at least.
Needless to say, we hurried off to find the shadow men, which we found some in Nektulous, however, only 2 spawn there, so we decided to make a slow walk (carrying the 3250 gold needed to complete the quest), over to Lavastorm. There we found that 4 shadow men popped, and we killed them about 3 times each, before we had a shadow rapier for both of us.
At this point, all we needed was to find this Hasten Bootstrutter in Rathe mountains, and low and behold, we asked out of character, and a kind troll had informed us that he found this fast footed mob, and quickly hailed him and gave us his loc (he was very close to where the hill giant territory was. We gave him the shadow rapier, the ring of the ancients, and 3250 gold pieces (we didn't want to take any chances giving plat, since the quest mentioned nothing of plat as part of the quest), and then we heard the horns of victory ! And there were the Journeyman's Boots, right in my inventory!
Quest complete.
I gotta tell you guys, don't wuss out on this quest, you can use the instant effect to speed your feet up even when you're already running ! Take the time, camp the AC Island in ocean of tears (very easy to get to if you have PoP expansion), just go to Freeport, and go to the docks, and find the little gnome Translocator. He'll bring you right across the bay from the AC Island, and there's another translocator near the docks in OOT which can bring you back to freeport. You will be very happy with your time spent once this quest is complete, I assure you (unless you're a bard or a druid, it may not benefit you _as_ much, but it will definatly still benefit you) free casting quick feet, how cool is that?
Also, there was virtually no threat of KS'ing on the AC Island, everyone seemed very helpful and polite, at least on Erollisi Marr server.

I say, can you go a little higher and they are like "no thanks." I thought that was a little cheap considering i spent 4 hours the first camp and 8 hours the second. I took 2.5k the first time cause well, It seemed like an easy camp. Well, for the 8 hour one! HA! I want 3k to 3.5k now! Im not greedy, well, maybe a little. But Jesus, i say, if they dont like my price, you can camp the damn AC yourself. Cause with that time i could have used it to hunt HG in Rathe Mountains and made about the same if not a bit less. 3k-3.5k is nice considering the Travelers boots are what...5k? Hell, they are lucky getting these 2k less then Tboots! bah, may sound greedy, but this is a tiring camp and I havent even gotten them for my warrior yet cause I just sold my first ring. Was told by many you couldnt MQ on same account. Well, I want about 3k to 3.5k, I think thats reasonable, and if they dont like it, they wont get themselves Jboots I guess. Hey, Im happy using my SoW.

The MQ is going for about 4k on mith marr. if you're lucky or find someone desperate enough you can get 5k on it, but you'll ave to hold out longer than it is worth it.

sorry ended that post too early. If you look up hasten bootstrutter on this website there is a method of getting the AC to spawn every time you try in there. forget who posted it but i've done it 4 times and it works every time. it's the one where you kill the guy in the tower at 5pm and then kill phs at 9pm and he'll spawn soon after. it works, trust me.

I have read several places about how higher level guys are getting the ring and going with the person who wants the boots and handing the stuff to him. Does anyone know how do do it?
Maybe im wrong but to my understanding, it seems like as long as your grouped and one guy hands in the Ring, and someone else hands in the Rapier and the gold, then the person who hands in the gold should get the boots but i may be wrong, can someone help me out with this problem?

AC spawns at random, in oot or in sro. AC will spawn more in oot than in sro any given day.
First time I saw him was in sro and waited there off and on 4 days in a row and he finally popped.
2nd time, no body was in sro and I was just zoning to sro for spider silk and there he was.
3rd time, same place sro and he popped almost right on top of me.
Killed him more times in oot than in sro and in less time too.
Enjoy it because it's a nice item and it's well worth 3k-5k pp to mq.

Ok, well, I got the ring in OOT after camping him for 4 hours, not bad, but I was getting it on my druid because my 49 warrior is not going to even atempt the Sro one because its soo annoying. And he is too weak for the OOT one. Well anyway...I got the ring and I headed for RM to make the money for the quest. After i made the money a guy gave me a tell saying that you cannot MQ it for another char on the same account...i was kinda pissed. Is this true?? Because i got the ring on my druid, was gonna transfer the cash to my warrior, get rapier on my warrior, chase down Hasten and hail him on my druid, then my friend would repeatedly hail him and I give him the ring, log on my warrior, give the money and rapier and get my Jboots on my warrior...can i not do this? cause If i cant, im just gonna sell the MQ and bring my friend to help me MQ it for my warrior when i kill the AC again, or I was just gonna MQ it for my friend. Ack, im confusing myself...but anywho, so what i need to know is Can i MQ it for my warrior with my druid on the same account, and also If i cant...how much would i be able to sell the MQ for?? I would think about 2-4k considering then the person might as well just get Travelers boots with the money they spent on the MQ...phew, im tired. Please answer as soon as possible, thanks=)

How did you keep the no rent from disappearing from the first camped player? Or, did that second player just give the gold??? If so, very risky!!!

Ok guys here is My guide...
I have Completed this quest 6 times now. Each time was for my own toons on the same account.
I have never done the AC (Ancient Cyclops) in the desert Ro, I like to camp for him in OOT (Ocean Of Tears). The camp in OOT is static and the spawn time on the "Karana" server is 5 min, 50 seconds. The cycle goes like this:
Every 5 min, 50 secs a PH (place holder) or the AC has a chance to spawn. It is completely random. PH's consist of either, a named Ogre (Boog Mudtoe), a pirate, an aqua goblin, or a cyclops. The Aqua Goblin, Boog Mudtoe, and Pirate are all green to a lvl 40 player. The Cyclops ph's has a higher lvl range. I have seen some that con Dark Blue to my lvl 57 Necro. But most are green to Light Blue but is very nice to see some xp still at 57.
The average loot is junk from the goblin, pirate, and Boog as expected but the Cyclops typically drops an average of 3-5pp and on rare occassions a gem. I can usually sell the gems with 150+ cha for about 50-100pp depending on the gem that dropped. The Cyclops also drops the typical drop of sea foam, words, and toes.
The AC and PH's will spawn in the same static spot on the small island inbetween the Sea Furry island and the Sister Island. The island has a Tower in the center up on top of a hill. Inside this tower is a gnome merchant that sells spell scrolls of some sort. If the PH does not get killed within about 2 minutes it will often wander about the island forcing you to hunt it down and slay it before the next mob in the cycle spawns.
After looting the AC ring you can head out to a Shadow Man Camp for the Shadowed rapier. *Note: The Shadowed Rapier is a, "No Rent" item and will dissapear after you log out for longer than 5 min. (Here is a secret/exploit in keeping any, "No Rent" item in EQ over night or longer whiel logged out):
1.) Find someone who will agree to slay you in a duel. When slain in a duel, no one loses/gains any XP.
2.) loot all items off corpse except the, "No Rent" item.
3.) Re-loot the, "No Rent" item before the corpse rot time limit exceeds and the, "No Rent" item will be there still.
If you are lucky, you will not need to preserve your, "No Rent" rapier and be able to complete the quest all at once.
There are several Shadowed Man camps about Norrath. Here is a list of where to find them:
Lavastorm, Nektulos Forrest, West Commons, and South Karana. No secret to the camp, just keep killing them till the rapeir drops. The rapeir will be visibly weilded by the mob that will drop it.
Here is how I like to do the quest for an alt on the same account. This may not be the most efficient method but it is a method none the less that has worked for my 5 times for alts and one time for my main...
(**Alternate toon that will get the Jboots**)
This Alt needs to run to Rathe Mts and log out with his 3,250 gold pieces.(not PP). This alt needs to be logged out in the pathway of where Hasten Bootstrutter will travel. It is a good idea to get a high lvl sow on just incase.
(**Instructions for the Main toon that will camp for the AC**)
1.) Bind in Rathe Mts. (optional)
2.) Camp AC till ya got the ring.
3.) Gate to the Rathe Mts.
4.) Run with your main toon to Rathe Mts, then to Lake Ratear, and then into South Karana to the Shadowed Man camp.
(knowing your way around all these zones is a helpful plus)
5.) After you loot the Shadowed rapier, gate back to Rathe Mts and start tracking down Hasten Bootstrutter, the fast moving gnome.
6.) Follow Hasten till he stops where your alt is logged out at. This takes some effort and time and means that you will need to follow him around for a bit but will help your lower lvl toon complete the quest faster and a little more safely.
7.) Once Hasten has reched the alt's log out point, hail Hasten. Sit down and hit ctrl x to begin the 30 sec log out timer. Give the Shadowed Rapier and AC ring just before the log out timer is up and give one last hail for good measure.
(**Instructions for the alt to receive the Jboots**)
8.) If you have a fast connection you can begin to log in your alt. Hasten will stand there for about 3 minutes and so many odd seconds. *Note: I recommended that before ya do this, to have your main, hail hasten once and allow him to move on his own and time how long it took before he lost interest and runs off again. This will tell you how long ya have to log in with your alt to complete the quest.
9.) Ok log in with your alt and give Hasten the gold pieces and instantly you will have a new pair of Jboots. Grats !
This quest is obviously risky and is obviously much easier with another player's help that can hold Hasten for you while you switch out toons but like I said, you can complete this quest all by yourself with one account.
I sure hope I have been able to be informative for you and good luck on your quest.

I have Completed this quest 6 times now. Each time was for my own toons on the same account.
I have never done the AC (Ancient Cyclops) in the desert Ro, I like to camp for him in OOT (Ocean Of Tears). The camp in OOT is static and the spawn time on the "Karana" server is 5 min, 50 seconds. The cycle goes like this:
Every 5 min, 50 secs a PH (place holder) or the AC has a chance to spawn. It is completely random. PH's consist of either, a named Ogre (Boog Mudtoe), a pirate, an aqua goblin, or a cyclops. The Aqua Goblin, Boog Mudtoe, and Pirate are all green to a lvl 40 player. The Cyclops ph's has a higher lvl range. I have seen some that con Dark Blue to my lvl 57 Necro. But most are green to Light Blue but is very nice to see some xp still at 57.
The average loot is junk from the goblin, pirate, and Boog as expected but the Cyclops typically drops an average of 3-5pp and on rare occassions a gem. I can usually sell the gems with 150+ cha for about 50-100pp depending on the gem that dropped. The Cyclops also drops the typical drop of sea foam, words, and toes.
The AC and PH's will spawn in the same static spot on the small island inbetween the Sea Furry island and the Sister Island. The island has a Tower in the center up on top of a hill. Inside this tower is a gnome merchant that sells spell scrolls of some sort. If the PH does not get killed within about 2 minutes it will often wander about the island forcing you to hunt it down and slay it before the next mob in the cycle spawns.
After looting the AC ring you can head out to a Shadow Man Camp for the Shadowed rapier. *Note: The Shadowed Rapier is a, "No Rent" item and will dissapear after you log out for longer than 5 min. (Here is a secret/exploit in keeping any, "No Rent" item in EQ over night or longer whiel logged out):
1.) Find someone who will agree to slay you in a duel. When slain in a duel, no one loses/gains any XP.
2.) loot all items off corpse except the, "No Rent" item.
3.) Re-loot the, "No Rent" item before the corpse rot time limit exceeds and the, "No Rent" item will be there still.
If you are lucky, you will not need to preserve your, "No Rent" rapier and be able to complete the quest all at once.
There are several Shadowed Man camps about Norrath. Here is a list of where to find them:
Lavastorm, Nektulos Forrest, West Commons, and South Karana. No secret to the camp, just keep killing them till the rapeir drops. The rapeir will be visibly weilded by the mob that will drop it.
Here is how I like to do the quest for an alt on the same account. This may not be the most efficient method but it is a method none the less that has worked for my 5 times for alts and one time for my main...
(**Alternate toon that will get the Jboots**)
This Alt needs to run to Rathe Mts and log out with his 3,250 gold pieces.(not PP). This alt needs to be logged out in the pathway of where Hasten Bootstrutter will travel. It is a good idea to get a high lvl sow on just incase.
(**Instructions for the Main toon that will camp for the AC**)
1.) Bind in Rathe Mts. (optional)
2.) Camp AC till ya got the ring.
3.) Gate to the Rathe Mts.
4.) Run with your main toon to Rathe Mts, then to Lake Ratear, and then into South Karana to the Shadowed Man camp.
(knowing your way around all these zones is a helpful plus)
5.) After you loot the Shadowed rapier, gate back to Rathe Mts and start tracking down Hasten Bootstrutter, the fast moving gnome.
6.) Follow Hasten till he stops where your alt is logged out at. This takes some effort and time and means that you will need to follow him around for a bit but will help your lower lvl toon complete the quest faster and a little more safely.
7.) Once Hasten has reched the alt's log out point, hail Hasten. Sit down and hit ctrl x to begin the 30 sec log out timer. Give the Shadowed Rapier and AC ring just before the log out timer is up and give one last hail for good measure.

8.) If you have a fast connection you can begin to log in your alt. Hasten will stand there for about 3 minutes and so many odd seconds. *Note: I recommended that before ya do this, to have your main, hail hasten once and allow him to move on his own and time how long it took before he lost interest and runs off again. This will tell you how long ya have to log in with your alt to complete the quest.
9.) Ok log in with your alt and give Hasten the gold pieces and instantly you will have a new pair of Jboots. Grats !
This quest is obviously risky and is obviously much easier with another player's help that can hold Hasten for you while you switch out toons but like I said, you can complete this quest all by yourself with one account.

Ya'All think ya had it bad at 8 hours camping him.. LMAO I spent 29 hours camping him with no luck. Be prepared for a LONG camp. And another thing.. All your stories "I got him in 5 mins" and all. Its great you did, But obviously, No one really cares

I had been in Sro for about 5 hours at the time waiting for any moment the AC to spawn and there was not a soul in the zone and then Nkat from Illumanati , which is a guild on Mith Marr enters the zone with a lvl 64 druid guildie and i get to AC first and he was standing right there beside me as i was gettin the AC to 80% health and then his druid friend nukes the AC for around 1k dmg and he tanks it off, so make a story short he KSd and I want everyone to know on Mith Marr that Nkat is the most evil person alive!!!!!!!
