Confirmed drop is the frenzied ghoul in Lower Guk. Most downloaded maps have the frenzied labelled on them if you are not familiar with Lower Guk.

Guild tribute offers 90 points.

Guild hall vendor offered 8p.

This remains an excellent item for any caster under level 44 that doesn't have extended range focus from another gear slot.
Fine for Clerics too

my Cleric 22nd acquired it yesterday in the Bazaar (MR)and what more can I want than +3 STR for carrying my armor, +30 mana to start with and an extended range on root and pacify for 50p? =)

Does this ring work for any bard songs, aoe's really is what I'm wondering. Its worth the slot if I can kite mobs an extra foot away from hairy back.
RE: Bard
# Feb 15 2004 at 12:50 PM Rating: Decent
No focus effect of any kind works for bards. Songs cannot be enhanced at all.

That's not entirely correct.

Bards use their instruments to give their songs more power... ie using a lute to give Hymn of Restoration more regen power, or a drum to boost DoT damage.

However, the only way to gain range on songs is to invest in the Extended Notes AA, and even then, it won't work on most detrimental songs.

The Moonstone Ring is an excellent, inexpensive item for:

(1) Casters and hybrids who use level 44 spells and lower for pulls.

(2) Casters and hybrids who use level 44 spells and lower to kite, or who like to root and nuke, or otherwise cast from a distance.

As has been noted in other posts, you will recieve a message when the ring allows you to cast a spell on a mob that would otherwise have been out of range. Combine this with a focus effect item that hastens your damage spell, and you often have time to lands two spells on the mob before it can reach you.

So the extra 3 str to carry items is junk eh? Maybe...
So the extra 30 mana for a level 1-10 is junk eh?
So the extended range to level 44 spells is junk eh?

Ever try a wizard with a bolt spell? 360 feet is more impressive when the mob dies at your feet after you get the third shot off... touch me? YOU THOUGHT!

I would LOVE to have this ring on my little wizzie instead of my stupid +2 INT ring... BAH!

Does this effect work?
# Sep 13 2002 at 11:44 AM Rating: Decent
I have 2 moonstone rings as well and I don't notice anything. You wouldn't beleive how close I have to get to mobs just to cast tash on them!
RE: Does this effect work?

There's a standard technique used by many casters which will show you that this item works, and should show you how useful it is to you:

Do this first without the ring on.

Find the camp you propose to hunt (fixed camp, single pull if you are soloing).

Stand in range, target mob, cast your pull spell. Before it goes off, interrupt it and move back a pace or two.

Repeat until you find the exact point at which you are just in range.

Pull and kill.

Now put on the ring and move back, casting and interrupting, until you find the new maximum range.

Pull and kill.

If the extra time the longer range allows means you can get off an extra, useful spell then it's worth it. If not, then maybe you could find a better finger slot item.

i have one of these on my 39 pally and it works for me just fine. You can tell when the effect is triggered by a messing saying something like your moonstone ring begins to shine or something like that even though i just got it for the str and mana boost.

RE: Does this effect work?
# Feb 20 2003 at 6:45 PM Rating: Decent
The effect does work but on my wizard I've noticed it only works when at the range of the spell where it would help if within normal range of spells it won't go off, if too far out of range with ring it says too far...so you have to be in that 15% range between maximum spell range but not too far

I currently have this ring on my 35 ranger. I do not believe the effect happens very often. It says something about your mind clearing with the moonstone ring, and I have only had it happen twice to me from lvls 33-35. Still, the +3 str and +30 mana isn't bad/
good item
# Jul 16 2002 at 2:20 PM Rating: Default
i paid 50pp per ring on these, but i thibk it was worth it, they are great and at lvl 35 as a paladin, the mana isnt bad and the strength is good for looting ****. 60 mana gives me only 1 more heal but better to have that heal than be stuck trying to med while dying!

I paid about 100PP for mine in the bazaar on 7th Hammer, and I find the focus feature to be a godsend for my druid char. I now have most of my level II focus items and what a difference they make!!

this would be good for mages and wizards also with the 300 range bolt spells. you range just went out to 345. thats about enough time to get three bolts on the mob at maximum range and pretty much kill it. I can easily get 2 bolts off before something gets to me with 300 range. Sadly i am 54 now and Scars of sigil is not effected by this ring. 2 second casting time and 345 range would have been sweet. Wish they had focus effect when I was younger

this ring used to be THE most hated item of all Lguk. now listen at you all, bickering like little school children.... ..... ......

if you want the ring go sit in Lguk im pretty sure you will get it easily. if you dont want the ring now for the focus effect, then shut your trap and move on. someone always has to try and raise a stink about stomething.
what the hell?
# Dec 31 2001 at 1:09 PM Rating: Good
Why does everyone automatically assume this is only good for low levels? As a hybrid, 35 Ranger for the moment--this is still not a bad ring. Everyone makes it sound like as a 35 Ranger I should be wearing full Forrest Stalker. That is BS. Just enjoy the game--for a 35 Ranger, if you earned it--it is good for you. Get real here, not everyone has a level 60 prime to get twink gear.

Thought I'd found a new Luclin item on a merchant in Grob today - merchant wanted 52plat with warmly faction and 70ish charisma. Was tempted to grab it, but prefer my fireopal rings more.

RE: best class
# Dec 19 2001 at 10:26 PM Rating: Default
lol what a flame that was...its good for any class. if you notice it says all/all. although it is best suited for hybrids imo as they benfit from both the str and mana...but then again what pure caster couldnt use some extra str for loot?
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 01 2002 at 10:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Aye, and what pure melee class couldn't use the extra mana... hmmm.. ok nevermind that.
i like them

I admit that these aren't that great for the level of the people that can easily get these. But they're great for my level 12 enchanter. I was in Lower Guk today with my main, holding the Magi room with people (32 is barely enough to do this, I was getting beat up quite a lot!) and got killed horribly. After being rezzed, and before being escorted out since a level 51 joined and I wasn't getting exp, they let me roll for the adamantite band that dropped. I actually won the roll, nice becuase I almost never do, and gave me the choice between the adamantite or a PAIR of moonstones. Adamantite has nice hit points, but negative magic resistance, and these were great for my enchanter, so I picked these. A great reward for enduring an area I shouldn't have been in yet! Lower Guk's got great loot, will definitely revisit the pace in a few more levels.
very good

This ring is ok for low lvls...but i wouldnt think that most mid lvls or the lvls that fight in guk would find any purpose for them..i usually just sell them back to merchants...but a good ring for a low lvl frined

currently i wear them. total i get 6 str and 60 mana. 6 str helps with carrying stuff and 60 mana is just peachy.

i will be wearing these till my enchanter gets high enough jc level to make vfw's for me.

Hey 30 mana is two extra snares
nice for most low to midlevels
# Mar 27 2001 at 6:52 AM Rating: Default
A very nice item for most caster classes ( and even hybrids ) up into the 20ies, as affordable Stat rings, do not give as much mana (check it with a mana calculator, still works for me at level 28th ),and the STR+3 helps with the loot-carrying necessary to afford nice stuff. Twinks may disagree, let them !
RE: nice for most low to midlevels
# Apr 24 2001 at 9:07 AM Rating: Default
Also nice for those who have maxed out their INT or WIS. At that level, 30 mana ain't much, and most likely some of that INT or WIS come from rings they already have on, but if not every little bit helps.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 12 2001 at 4:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i have gotten this ring and its now on my level 10 mage, i traded for it and got it along with a trade form a level 60 necro.
