I am too gimp to solo this mob myself but I think some people can and or can box her. However I can't find it for less than 100k because only one person is selling it. I know how it is since they are the only one that has it they can set the market but that is just stupid. 100k+? ha! Not gonna get that much out of me.

Is anyone on any other server experiencing a severe increase on the price of this item in the bazaar, or do all the idiots just congregate on Terris Thule? Sorry, but strangely, methinks the Grand Robe of the Oracle isn't worth 300 - 500 k plus 5 other books.

If anyone on Terris Thule doesn't mind selling this book at a price that's actually fair, please contact me~ (Wystaria)

I had just joined a new guild and they were off to do Grummus so I went along. Along the way we had to battle the spider lady. We killed her fine and this book dropped. I won the bid for 5 points. At the time I really wanted it. But, it only really helps me (65 Magician) when summoning pets. It takes my 12 second cast time down to 8.4 seconds. Doesnt work on any of my other summoning spells. So I looked on this site and see that it sells for quite a bit. I'll give it a shot to night, see if I can sell it. Feel kinda bad blowing the first points I earned and then selling what I got... LOL

Drop Rate is Horrible
# Mar 19 2004 at 11:12 PM Rating: Decent
Drop rate is ridiculously low. I've organized seven (7) successful raids against Amarin in the past nine (9) days. ZERO books dropped. It is so frustrating that a raid encounter mob has such a rare drop rate for a quest item. I totally understand a rare drop rate for a "single group" mob ... but a "raid encounter mob" - grrrrrr.

Well, this spider will be fought until the book drops (or until my friends boycott me - hehe)

Up to 12 kills now and still no Notebook. Tho, last kill was a whole lot of fun. Single-grouped Amarin and won (65dru, 65war, 65enc, 65shm, 65clr and 65rog) ... I cast Exodus right after looting Amarin. Single-grouping is the way to go (much less stressful).

I'm on the Luclin server, if you know anyone selling the Firebone, please send me a /tell.

WOOT ... Finally ... on the 15th try, Aramin dropped the Firebone Notebook.

Single grouped: 65dru(me), 65enc(Nemuel), 65shm(Janna), 65sk(Kruess), 65mag(Iberar), 64 (who dinged 65)clr (Docttor). No deaths .. enc pulled.

Thank you to the hundreds (literally hundreds) of people who have helped me to obtain the item. I can't thank everyone here ... but I did want to give a shout to my RL boyfriend, Vendicaterr (aka Vileatorr), Nemuel, Sqar, Janna, Jeslena, Pomak, Peac, Corleblu, MzKantur, Unelven, Naoto, Meowmynx and soooo many more people who believed in me and assisted me time and time again.

Drop Rate and Price
# Mar 16 2004 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
I am on the Druzzil Ro server and the current price of this book is about 250k. I am trying to do the phylactery quest and feel that this price is well... quite high. I have attended a two raids on the spider and he did not drop it. Is the drop rate on the book pretty low or am I just having bad luck. Also, is the price of the book this high on other servers? I see the Alla's price listed at 62k... hell i would love to buy for that price right now. Anyhow... just wondering.. plz respond
Class Usage

Well we farm Araman for the book for the Grand Robe Quest, NOT for the use of the Firebone Notebook as a range item. IF it had to go to anyone because of summoning haste, mage might as well get it since they summon many pets, and necro pets usually last the whole fight anyway. If as a necro you DO have to somehow emergency recast and you don't have suspended minion 2, then whip out the trusty Decaying Bone Idol from the inventory.

I agree, my necro is not a high level but it dropped in PoN for my Paladin from a blood raven just near the Saferock/treant camp. Noticed it was necro only so gave it my necro, they also go very cheaply but very handy for a necro who can't do any of the aaxp abilities.

Summoning Haste is awesome for mages - not necros. SOE considers necros to "reanimate the dead" NOT "summon pets" (just fyi) ... and yes ... the primary value of the book is for the Grand Tunic (Robe) of the Oracle Quest.
RE: Class Usage
# May 02 2004 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
Yes some time ago... over a year ago SoE changed the Summoning Haste & Reanimation Haste to work for both sets of pets they were going to just change it to all one type but was to much codeing or some lazy thing or another so they just set them all to be the same for Necro's and Mages

Well Reanimation Haste is affecting magician pets, that's for sure. (My Fetid Flesh Belt clearly hasted my pet summons).

And I think, but it has to be verified, that Summoning Haste affect necro pets the same way, thus making Summoning and Reanimation Haste pure synonyms.

will everyone just shut up. this book is a pile of crap. mages have summoned items that give them an awesome spell haste. wizzys.. well ***** wizzys and their fake pet that jsut gets in the way. necros just bumm off the mages. and enhanters.. your pets are worse than wizzy pets.

NOW, this book CAN and WILL go to anyone who would actually use the piece of crap you are reading about(the book for all you who even the short bus was too big for). and guess what, thers a quest. imagine that, a quest. and a pretty nice quest too. SO, this book CAN and WILL go to anyone who wants to do the quest.

why waste time on such a long quest? why not get levels and aa points.

guess what quests are a big part of the game. and if all you did was make levels and gain aa points, this game would be more boring than it already is. quests keep things interesting so youre not doing the same thing over and over and over. plus you ahve something VERY nice to show for it.

quit your crying. its not no drop, so anyone who gets this will probably sell it, and the person who bought it will most likely do the quest.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 06 2003 at 12:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't know why this item is causing such a fuss. Frankly, the stats suck for anyone who is high enough to obtain it, and the only ones who might use it would be necros and mages... however, on Tallon Zek server, decaying bone idols (necro only) have the same effect and are roughly going for something like 200pp. Erego, this should go to a mage. The only time it should go to someone else is in the absence of a mage. Y'all need to quit whining - you'll probably never see this drop anyway.

once again a piece of trash like this drops. yeah, it's not trash if you're a magician. fine. but i'm a wizard, and this kind of stuff drops and most guilds hand it to those with pets. REAL pets. if you try to call your wizard familiar a pet, you are stretching things way too much. you summon the damned thing once and then it stays for over hours. why didn't SOE just make it MAG only. oh, because they want wizards to feel as if they're not being ignored. whatever. nerf manaburn, raise the recast delay, nerf al'kabor spells so it only hits 5 or less targets....bite me, SOE. and bite me, anyone who has a problem with this post--you obviously do not have a wizard past 5th level.

*Quite a rant this one. Ended up being a pro-wizard argument so this maybe isn't the right place for it, but read and enjoy or just stop reading here*

I don't have Mana Burn and I complain about the nerfing because that is why I have never bothered with it. Frankly it is too situational these days to waste AA on in my opinion, until maybe you have bought everything else you might want. Al'Kabor... Yes well, useless spell line as is, but in my opinion it can't be fixed to something useful without overpowering it. LinusMundane is correct about the AEs though, that's where you have your farming tool and AE group fun if you like that. Read me right now, I love my wizard and it's quite frankly the only class I really really ever enjoyed playing.

What people fail to see when they whine about being wizards is the utility wizards can bring to a group. We don't necessarily do the most damage in very long fights, if you bring Mage pets and other factors into the calculation. We do however pull our weight, outdamage most classes in most situations, and have the power to save our friends asses in more than just one way when the going gets tough.

Telekin, lovely spell, all our stuns are but with PoP this one shines the most. Especially if teamed up with Concussion. Some wizards argue Concussion isn't worth it. I think they are so very wrong, but everyone plays the way they see fit. To me it is invaluable in groups and even has some use on certain raids mobs. It's without a doubt the spell I have most casts on during my career. Draught of Thunder is a killer on those gating/healing mobs. Even stun resistant mobs have a hard time channeling through the combined effort of 2 or 3 wizards using just this low mana fast cast spell while the tanks pound them down. Spellshield and the new Protection of Calrena can really help out in a close fight against those procing mobs. Saved my tank plenty of times against BoT mobs. Allegiant Familiar, gotta love the little bugger, brings us up to the very top of the class as far as mana regen goes due to the fact that we can have it alongside all other classes regen buffs, and then there's the resists too. And while we're on the subject, let's not forget Harvest and Harvest of Druzzil, they really do help out a lot. Some other classes have similiar things, but hey, who am I to point fingers, I'm happy with the extras I got.

Now let's look at the crits. We are the masters of this, don't you doubt it. Mages, druids etc need their crits to be useful in comparison. If they didn't get the AA to crit they would fall too far behind a maxed AA wizard. No matter how many AAs you have on crits you go through down periods now and then and so does anyone, but on a good mob you easily press out a 8-10/1 damage/mana ratio.

Oh yeah and we have our evacs and ports too. Not always fun being a port *****, but there should be at least 1 wizard on any given raid to help with transportation to, and more critically, out of dungeons. Druids can somewhat fill this role, but not nearly with the same versatility. Our little innate resist check modifier shouldn't be forgotten. Maybe doesn't do much when you look on a single nuke, but punch it out over a few hours raiding and I'm pretty sure we dealt out some extra damage where anyone else would have been resisted. Which brings us to raids... Lures will kill your mob when mages and druids are transformed to dead weight in the back of the line as far as nuking goes (Not bashing mages and druids here, in such a case these very versatile classes have other duties to perform to help out and they sure do their part as well)

My point is simply this: Wizards are not just some extra DPS in the back. We are extra DPS, not always with the extra agro people think. A means to get there and out again without any trouble. Corpse draggers (with both IVU and reg. invis) and life savers. The remedy against proc deaths and the finger in the gating mobs face.

This is all in the perspective of a 65 wizard with around 130 AAs. I have no "uber" gear and things can always get better with more stuff and more AA. During my career there have been up and down periods for my class. Luckily for me I had friends playing with me anyway when something else would have been more useful. And then there's always the quading. Very useful and efficient, but for gods sake don't forget to learn how to play in a group. So in the end I've had my ups and downs, I have been to places where I was all but useless but I have also been the 1 guy keeping a group alive and in the fight. Now... There's always things I want to see fixed and improved, but in the big picture I couldn't be more pleased.

Oh yeah and to keep this post on something that actually makes it valid for the forum. The book should go to any int or wis caster who would be upgraded by the Phylactery quest. The uses this thing may have of it's own is so minor in comparison if you ask me. How you chose to award loot in your guild/raid decides how it's done.

What if this item didn't have a focus, who would it be best for then? Any/All of the listed classes?

So, what if the mage (seems to be the popular choice of who "should" get this) already has a summoning haste item? And why wouldn't they, if they made it to a level high enough for this encounter, have a summoning haste item if it was indeed very important and beneficial to have one?

It seems like a pretty good item for all of the listed classes, given the stats on it. This particular effect just seems like a bonus for whoever might be able to put it to use. IMHO

I cannot believe the audacity of those who posted here. Summoning Haste is strictly for magicians only. Regardless of how useful it is "to summon pets mid-combat", this item should go to those who it benefits the most.

And for those not familiar with how Magicians work (let's face it, 99% of the EQ population don't know since Mages "suck" right?), Mages chain-cast pets during raids, exp groups, soloing. Having this item shaves 2.4 seconds from the cast time of a pet, which translates to extra damage as well as mana regeneration time. So please, all you wizards out there that think this is a stellar "Wizard item", if you happen to stumble across a little item called "Halo of Enlightened Barriers", please do not roll on it.
RE: 100% Retarded
# Dec 19 2002 at 9:18 PM Rating: Default
Oh, BS. I ran tests last night with summoning efficiency. First off, It definitely -only- works with pets. Second, it works with all pets I have tested (except necro and SK). That means it works with wizard pets, enchanter pets, cleric pets, shaman pets, druid pets... And mages are not the only ones who have ever had to chain cast a pet. (Yes, I know this particular item excludes wis casters.)

Wizards and Clerics, you will notice, have pets that poof after every battle. For them, Summoning Efficiency/Haste could be the difference between a pet that's actually useful and a pet that's completely pointless.

This game is about having fun, not squabbling over loot, and most loot squabbles seem to be when someone insists they have inherently more right to something than someone else. Camp the guy a while, and he'll drop another one for you.

BTW. This has charisma on it. Clearly a chanter item. :P
RE: 100% Retarded

you must be joking me. and what odd world do you live in where wizards and clerics use these pets so frequently? necros, sure, they can use all the help summoning pets they can get, what with their mana costs and spellcasting times on pets.

wiz and cleric pets ARE pointless.

has nothing to do with squabbling over loot. has to do with common sense.

My cleric uses his "pointless" pet every single fight in exp groups and LDoNs. Faster kills=more exp. Also, its an easy way to see if the mobs DS is big enugh to cast mark of kings. With the few HP my pet has, if his life starts dropping right after the first few hits, the mob has a big ds, that needs to be removed. Plus, the pet Double attacks for something like 80 points damage, so a potential 160 points per round. Thats better than a lot of dual weilder's get from their offhand weapon. Would you then call their offhand "pointless" and recommend they not bother with a weapon in secondary?

Of course, his pet is a right clicky effect on his greaves, so mana is not an issue, nor would summoning haste help, even if clerics could use this item.

I am a wizard, and I have this book. While I will say Summoning Haste is useful, it isn't really something to sway the decision for giving it out. I mean any time you're summoning something, you're usually not in the heat of combat.

And I wish people would stop the stupid "Class X should be the ONLY class to get this" bull. If only Class X was supposed to get it, they would be the only ones listed under the Class category. Anyone should have a shot at the item, especially if it's a big upgrade. There's always prefered ways of handing out drops in a guild. Like Harla Dar's Talisman. We farmed that for a while before PoP, and the first drops went to wizards (Improved Damage 3 focus) and that was a choice the guild made because that focus has a huge effect on a wizard. Summoning mod rods and pets faster? Not so much a necessity in a guild.

If you look at 90% of the nec/wiz/mag/enc gear out there and say "Well since Wizards don't use HP" (or stamina, or summoning focuses, or charisma, etc, etc) "they shouldn't get to roll on this item" I would be pretty damn naked. It isn't our fault our main stats are int and mana. Isn't our fault the focus of our spellbook is nukes and ports.

Anyway, the main point of my post...

Summoning Haste IV does not effect Greater Familiar. I believe the Familiar line counts as a buff rather than a pet. Would be interesting to see if anyone with any Enhancement focuses could reply with any info (Enh Haste, Extended, etc) to verify or break that theory ;)

It does, however, effect Flaming Sword of Xuzl, bringing the casting time to 1.8 seconds if I remember rightly.

All in all, a very nice book to have for any of the classes listed.
RE: Summoning Haste...
# Feb 13 2003 at 9:59 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone listed for the class should get the opportunity to bid on the item. That said:

you statement about "anytime something is being summoned isnt in the heat of battle" is completely wrong.

As a mage, chain summoning pets to take down mobs mobs that are really tough, ( even in a duo) having a summoning haste item is the bomb. The longer it takes to get your pet up, the better the chance your chain will be broken. PLay the class and post what you know. Dont post what you "think"

1. Xanaber about to die
2. Begin casting new pet
3. TYPE /pet get lost (hot key wont work while casting)
4. split second before spell finishes casting hit enter
5. Old pet suicides, new pet pops up, send it in to continue the fight.

I took Phurzikon solo using 13 chained 51 earth pets.

Given that there are many items with summoning haste out there (Ok maybe not SH 4) the argument over which class this is best for is irrelevant. An equal argument could be made for any caster. Personally as a wizard it's hard to find int and dex items this good. (and yes Wizards DO need a high dex). If it drops, all listed classes should get to roll.
