Force Question?
# Dec 30 2002 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
I play a dwarf warrior, gnome shadow knight, and high-elf cleric, levels 53, 36, and 36 respectively, and was wondering what level they would need to be to complete this quest alone or with little help. I will be able to run all three together by the time the little ones reach the warrior's level, and want to be able to do this quest without having to go through a lot of trouble to try to find a group. I'm sure I will be able to easily find a friend or two to help, but I will be doing the quest for all three and don't want to be stuck waiting around for others to help, and the levels are coming fast; I should have them all to ~55 within 2 months...so if any of you that have done the quest could give me some insight on force needed it would be appreciated. Assume better than average to very good gear and lots of mana on the cler.

I will have 12/21, 10/23 vamp bane weps on the war, and a 12/21 on the sk unless I find something better in the mean time.
Bane to Vamps

As a pally I would like to get this shiled ...yet I can't use the stakes to help a group complete the quest. Does anyone know anyother bane vs vampire weapons out there that may be pally usable?

There is an extremely nice Paladin-only 2-hand slasher called Ashbringer, which has a +10 Bane vs. Vampyres. It is questable, but also tradeable, so you may also be able to find it via the Bazaar, etc.

Here is the link to the weapon:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7975

And here is the link to the quest:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1459

Hope this helps.

Ashbringer while better overall is not better against Val, who is immune to the non bane aspect. I'd use the 1HB torches gotten through the Acrylia phosphate quest (also drop off of Ketta guards), and equip a shield for the extra AC. At least thats what I did.

They are also a lot easier to obtain, ashbringer is a heck of a timesink.

Got my shield today btw, Woot!

This is not true.

The entire damage is calculated. I was hitting him in the 100's, which would be impossible if the base damage is only bane vampyre +10. Remember that this is a typical insanely-high-AC Luclin boss mob, so if I'm hitting him in the 100's, then the weapon probably has an effective damage in the 20's-30's.

My average shot landed for 40-60 damage. The proc went off less frequently than Ward of Nife, much to my dismay. After all the trouble it took to get the Ashbringer, it was a colossal disappointment. It should proc somewhere near the frequency of the Cleric summoned hammers. Pallies should put on a show of arcane fireworks as they mow down undead with this. Unfortunately, its no better than wielding your trusty ol' ghoulbane.

Pally vs Cleric
# Oct 10 2002 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
This shield is awesome for a cleric, but really, although i play a cleric, i would like to see this item go to a pally as he would receive more benefit. He would need the AC, str, wis for when he ocasionally have to heal his party and hp which is always welcome, whilst a cleric when he reaches the lvl to attain this shield, needs objects with mana rather than wis, although 50ac in the backslot aren't that bad for when i'm taking a beating =)

Since this is a quest, not a drop, wouldn't it be preferrable to just do the quest twice, and get one for both of them??
back useable?
# Oct 08 2002 at 1:36 AM Rating: Default
Is this shield still back useable? The picture says yes but the top part doesnt mention it. Will someone please let me know who has recently done the quest so i dont go wasting my time since i am a warrior. Thanks.
RE: back useable?

I wear it in my backslot, it is a problem of allakhazam that it can't list items for several slots as it seems. Sometimes you find a second version with backslot assigned, here it was forgotten.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 25 2002 at 9:26 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First off ill say rangers are too pampered already, Dual wieldaing epics where one gives haste, the other a slow. Like you cant solo anything snareable already. Second id like to say my brothers and i just fiinished this quest for my brothers Paladin, it has the Katta guards shield graphic, with the 2 eagle heads on it, and by far has been one of thee funnest plots/storylines to a quest i have done so far. Good Luck to all you plate classes out there, any of the listes useable classes should do it :)
Whining vs Helping
# Sep 24 2002 at 11:36 PM Rating: Default
Trying to filter through all of this WHINING, "ITS NOT FOR MY CLASS WHAAA WHAA WHA", "WHY CANT I WEAR THIS" is a chore, when you actually trying to look for IMPORTANT info on this, so maybe make a "I WANT TO WHINE LIKE THE BABY I AM" section and a "Here is helpful info on this" section.

just my 2pp.
I reckon all the whiners are gonna whine about my post now ... go ahaed WHINE ....

and to make this post helpful, you may wanna work on your faction ALOT, theres 3 diff sets of faction you will need to complete this quests. All which is obtainable by MASS MURDERING vampyres in TM.

Fair
# Sep 23 2002 at 10:26 PM Rating: Default
If you think about it and closely look at the stats you will see that this shield has 50AC! And if that isnt enough it can be worn in the back slot. As you all know, nearly every caster item in the game has low or no AC. It is only fair that they leave this item to Melee classes only.
RE: Fair
# Sep 24 2002 at 3:18 AM Rating: Default
Hm, clerics are melee now and rogues / rangers not? If you look closer the shield is for plate classes only.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 23 2002 at 10:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) SHD's aren't wis casters, but they are there... they should have made this for druids and shamans... regardless of whether or not they cannot wear plate... it's a nice shield that they should have... the thing is cleics get to equip it... that is what pisses me off... oh well... druids don't get it...
RE: its odd
# Sep 24 2002 at 10:27 AM Rating: Default
Ac 50 and 75 hps. I'd give my left nut for this shield.

Too bad my Katta faction can't get any worse.

Filthy druids are always complaining about something.

Actually, it's not odd. Don't think of this item as a caster item. It's not. It's a plate-wearer item. If you wanted it to be for Shamans and Druids because of the wisdom, then it would follow that it would also be for Rangers and Beastlords.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 23 2002 at 9:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It does surprise me that they left off all the other classes from this. Most shields are useable by several classes, druid, shaman, and ranger among them. Some shields for INT casters exist as well. I find it odd, but not overly so, that they would limit this item to plate classes, because it's a shield.
RE: No DRUID!?!?
# Sep 23 2002 at 6:54 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, I am a bit surprised at the exclusion of the shaman on this item more than I am the druid. While both can make good use of the WIS bonus, a shaman is by far more physical and more apt to get involved in a fight where AC will make the difference.

And I've no idea why Verant decided that seemed like a good item for all the bards out there.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 22 2002 at 4:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) HMMMM, druids, clerics and shaman have thier own shield.. its called Bane Shield of Warding..which is better for them since it has 20wis not 15wis.. and some other stats... Im a druid and i would and have done the BSoW quest for her, if you want a wis shield. AC50 on a warrior is what? 80ac modified when you put it on.. so i can't see any plate class wants it.

What? 50 is a big number. Bigger number is better and my warrior DEFINITELY wants it :)

This is a Plate class item (you can tell by the AC)...Druids and Shaman can't wear that type of armor.

The point is that 15wis and BACK slot equippable is FAR better than a secondary only item with 20wis for hybrid classes at least...not to mention the ac on this thing is godly

This shield is 3 or 4 times as good as the other shield. Just the extra AC alone makes it more worth it, even for a druid if they could use.
