Considered a "rare" zonewide drop in Chardok... how do we feel about that rating in 2016?

-need a modern item window pic of this item

-would appreciate a pic of someone wielding it

Got one of these off of a revived sarnak near the entrance. Almost destroyed it thinking it was a staff of suffering. Nice little staff ... used it right a way to get the proc then bagged it.

Just hit 50 with my Beastlord and it start to proc for me. Makes it a lot easier to solo with the added AC and Hitpoints. The magic resistance is nice as well for raids where we rarely have a shaman. Shaman buffs will over-write this buff ... esp the talisman series (which I get one at 53).

Weapon is not as fast as I would like but the dmg it does is very nice. Will probably sell it when I hit level 53 and get a chance to test the talisman spell I get.

Hope this helps someone

I have lvl 35 monk who loves these staves. no lvl requirement. great dps. these out parse the Jade Mace (9/18 ratio) easily, at least 50% more damage overall. Adamantite Club in primary and Stave od Shielding in Secondary and your good to go!

Gimme HP anyday, don't care where it came from lol. If I have no shammy then I whip it out for procage then bag it. Tonight I retired my Adamante Club and put it in my bag next to my Stave of Shielding. I use it still when I need to stun CH casting mobs. Want a nice weapon save up 510 adventure points and get this:

Fast forward 4 levels for me and this is what I found out, Stave of shielding loses it usefulness when you have a shammy in the group who can Focus of Seven on you. Several other buffs also overwrite it. Oddly, one time I was using the stave with a FoS type buff on me and the proc actually overrode it causing me to lose the str and dex gains from the shammy buff. So now I bag it until I am in group without a shaman. My weapons of choice have changed. Stave only for proc, then I put it away and use Copper Hammer of Striking in primary and Adamante Club in secondary. Something gives me warm fuzzies when they chain proc(both stun) and mobs fall down go BOOM! Price of Stave of Shielding on Tholuxe Paells ranges from 2k-3k. When I see it for under 2k my mule picks it up for resale :) Wouldn't want prices to totally bottom out you know).

Best low lvl monk weaps
# Aug 23 2003 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
Personally, I think this is one of the best droppable weapons for monks, especially at lower levels.

These staves are not lore, so you can use 2 of them and they sell (on Tholuxe Paells) for about 2500pp each. As soon as I get the money, I'm gonna get 2 for my 40 monk.

At level 40, with a maxed DW skill my monk's offhand swings 73% of the time (dw skill + level divided by 400 is the formula for offhand %).

That means 17 X .73 = 12.41 (offhand) + 17 (mainhand) is a damage of 29.41.

So two of these at lvl 40 is 29.41dmg/28 delay.

There is no droppable 2hb that I can buy at this level that comes close to that.

And none of the droppable 1 hand weaps comes close either. Most have high lvl requirements and or reccomended levels. And the one or two h2h weaps that come close are way expensive.

People talk about Wu's and bladed knuckles as being better b/c of the proc, but I haven't found that to be true. These have a 56% better ratio than Wu's sticks. So a Wu stick would have to proc so often that it does an additional 56% damage with procs for it to equal the damage of these staves. For me at least, my Wu stick doesn't proc nearly that much. Same thing w/ bladed knuckles, which have a crappy 25hp dd proc anyway.

On Tholuxe Paells server I use Blackbone fists(no drop from Umbral Plains) in my primary and Adamantite Club in my secondary. I used the Stave of Shielding only to get the proc then bag it. Monks are a fun class to play, especially if you already have a high level main who can be your sugar daddy for drops and equip because let's face it - we are great at fast damage and spell interruption and the best pullers in the game, but we got shaft in the HP department.

Since the post that stated the proc level is a little farther down I'll put another one up here to help. It procs at 50. Have a long wait for you to get it to proc on your BST, but at least the ratio is pretty darn good for your lvl =).

The description is for the lvl needed for those int caster to be able to cast the spell.

All I keep reading is "Whats the big deal with 75hp?" Let me just say that every hp counts. If you have a failed FD or are just in a close fight, 75hp can make all the difference. Do I use this as a weapon? NO. Do I use it till the proc and bag it? YES its got a good ac and hp gain at any lvl..and as a Monk, I scrounge for all the AC and HP I can find.

Bought one for my 30 Monk a few days ago for 1k and it does nice damage, but it's a pain having to wait until level 50 for the proc; it's not as though 75hps is likely to make a huge difference to anyone at that level, whereas it would be pretty nice at 30.

I seen some using a Wu stick. prim = 7/18 secondary = 17/18. and Wu's stick proc for 75DD spell fairly often. If U got more cash a Silverfang Club 10/17 +75HP 1hb would kick ***.

The proc lvl is 50... and yes, should be any class at that lvl.

Does the proc add the hitpoints... such as, if the proc hits 4 times during fight, will you gain a total of 4x the hitpoints added... understanding that your total hp only go up the ammount of proc... are hp added per proc to your current health?

I will prob check this... but thought to get info.

According to, the effect won't heal you, it will just increase maximum number of hitpoints you can possibly have. Here's the info:
Slot Description
1: Increase Max Hitpoints by 69 (L24) to 75 (L30)
2: Increase AC by 16 (L24) to 18 (L28)
6: Increase Magic Resist by 14

As opposed to a spell like Skin Like Diamond, which will increase the maximum number of hitpoints and heal those hitpoints:
Slot Description
1: Increase AC by 13
2: Increase Max Hitpoints by 178 (L39) to 200 (L50)
3: Increase HP when cast by 178 (L39) to 200 (L50)

Hope that answers your question.

SoS vs. Club of the Ice Ocean

Okay, here's something highly debatable that I'm looking for some good input on. I bought a Club of the Ice Ocean awhile back not thinking to look for the "Recommended Lvl" thing. Well, needles to say, this thing sat in the bank til my beastlord recently made 51. Now that I'm 51, I'm debating whether to stay with my 2 Stave's of Shielding or to just keep one SoS and use the Club of the Ice Ocean instead. SoS's have 17 dmg and 28 dly where this has 14 dmg 27 dly but also proc a whopping 149 DD which can add up in a fight. So if you're uber and know what you're talking about, please let me know if I should stay with my 2 SoS's or go to 1 SoS and 1 Club of the Ice Ocean.

They delay is so slow in this that I use it till I proc, then in the bag it goes. I use bare fists and the mallet from Icewell that procs a 150 dd, it's 10 20, forgot the name. I would sell my second SoS and get something better for the bst. One other note, if you have hos/focus up, Major Shielding is overridden, so you lose the benefit of it - hence why use it?

Level 32 Human Monk here. Thanks for the info in the above postings. I scrimped and saved and got one on the Veeshan server for 2500 platinum due to spirit of competition and free enterprise in the bazaar. What I neglected to do was research the item properly. I guess I have 18 levels to wait for the proc. Till then it's a big damage stick which is ok too.

on tallons sek normaly sold at 2k-2.5kpp.

I like to be on a PVP server items cost so low :-)

When I see the price on Blue server I lought and be happy to play on tallons. Ex: Fungi on most server 50k and + on my 35K-40k and +

Depends on the item, hehe.

Haste items were cheaper on Vallon, than on Cazic. But many other items are much cheaper on blue servers than PvP.. Plus you don't have to hassle with a bunch of "Uber PK" FEF's in these zones and then the item's free :)

So I spend 1K more on my SCHW... I saved 5K on my AC gear, heh

Duel wielding these things would be very heavy for a monk... 6.4 stones, that is over 1/3 the weight a monk can hold under lvl 50. I have a goranga spiked club and this in offhand, it seems to be a very nice combo. Club is 12/23, 5ac, 2str, and weighs 2.5, so club and this weighs 5.7 stones. Still a lot of weight. As far as the proc goes it is a self only buff all int casters get and I think it stacks with other buffs (resolution, skin like nature and such)

Wow, Lots of posts about this weapon. Here's my 2cp..
My (then 51) Iksar monk now proudly sports 2 of these sticks. Both were dropped by Sarnaks who were in the zone-in tunnel. My once-revered Knuckledusters are now sittin' in the bank. Any knowledgable Monks out there with an idea if the KD/SoS combo is any better than the SoS/SoS combo? Weighing 3.2 these puppies DO run my stamina down, but 'cos of the bruises they inflict I put up with it and rest between stoushes.

As for the group needed to get them, well I have cleared that tunnel up to the castle entrance grouped with only a 51 Shaman. Easy. Shaman slaps a slow on 'em when I introduce 'em and a weaken to follow, and that mob's gonna hit like a drunken pansy. Pansies please flame away ;).
That's 8 mobs we can deal to before they start respawning. If he got low on mana (from rooting the occasional add or roamer), I bandaged him up to 70% (gotta love 201+ skill in BW) while he canns. Also lost a roll on a Bard sword Symphonic something that dropped in the same place my first SoS did.
Hope that helps you fellow monks out there

I just set myself up with SoS/KD today, and even at 26 I can take out Tox myself! lol, I wish. I solo very well, and I can't wait until I am able to proc the Sos at level 50. As far as what combo is better, I would say duel SoS would rock because of the 17 dmg, and the delay is the same as KD anyway. Only setback is the weight, and you gotta think, at 50+ 6.4 weight is alot less than the 2hb items you would use. So, go with the duel SoS, and kill a dragon. =)

Sorry, but the price you have posted is, in my experience, too low. On Xev, a fairly mature server, most of our prices are 50-75% of what is listed on Allakhazam's, and a Stave of Shielding typically sells for 10-11kpp. If the price used to be listed at 15kpp, that would be accurate in as much as it would be consistent with all the other prices listed here.

This staff is a must for soloing Monks and Shadow Knights, as the buff lasts 45 minutes. The high value has nothing to do with the ratio of the weapon itself: just the proc.

You must be selling an SoS. I bought one for my Monk on The Rathe server for 7k and they go for between 6-8k (as most others here have noted). If they are going for 10-11k on your server than your server is 50-75% more expensive to buy items on than most others. Just my 2cp worth of info.

Actual DPS of SoM/SoS vs. SoS/SoM at 55 with FBSS and Epic haste is:

SoM/SoS:38.51DPS w/o FK
SoS/SoM:36.61DPS w/o FK

How you got logs of 100+ DPS I don't know. Probably parsed entire groups melee damage instead of just yours.

Ok, you are wronge on the dmg/del thing from the wepons you were testing with i can tell your not above 40. Use what they call a parcer, a program used to monitor dmg done over an amount of time on eq. Very easy to get one and use them. With this in my offhand and a s/o/m (sceptre of mastery 13dmg 21del 6stam and agi) i did so much more dmg then i did with the stave of shielding in main and som in offhand. I know this for a fact because parcers dont lie, they record dmg and figure out how much over time the total dmg the ratio and how much dmg a second you do. i did about 98dmg a second with sos in main and som in mainhand. with som in main and sos backing it up i did 153dmg a second.

ok just looking for comfirmation on this... have any of u actually experimented with the dmg/dly, main/offhand bit with a monk? everyone on these posts ive read seem to be putting weps like this in offhand.. granted yes i know that some classes, such as warriors, benefit the most from this, but... have any of you thought to actually test it with a monk? i did it one night.. actually me and a fellow monk did it.. we took 2 fighting batons (8/20) and 2 cane of tranquils (11/25) and spent 3 hrs experimenting with the various combinations of main / offhand use with these weps... after 3 hrs of individual testing we had both come to the same conclusion...

2 fighting batons was ok...
2cot's was ok...
fighting baton (faster wep) in main, and cot (hgiher dmg wep) in off flat out SUCKED!!
cot in main, fb in off rocked.. it blew all the other combos away... first off it literally seemed like we used our offhand at LEAST twice as much when weilding the faster of the 2 weps in off rather then in main... second the dmg bonus for main hand with the higher dmg wep etc etc...

as i said im looking for verification on this.. from ppl who have actually tested it..not those of u who made ur decision based on the warrior u used to play.. or those of u who made it based on what u read here.. but ppl who have actually taken the time to test it... the same weps.. the same ppl.. the same mobs.. 2 different ppl with diff stats testing it... for 3 hrs straight.. and we both agreed the results unanimously... higher dmg in main faster dly in off was the best way to go with our monks... stuff just flat out died alot faster... at least that was our conclusion.. we tested this MANY times that night... so any comments from others who have actually tested this "with your monks" would be greatly apreciated :) thank you

Actually a lot would have depended on your level, I am guessing the two of you were maybe 40th or lower? (I am replying to this very late so its unlikely you might see it).

The simple answer is that below 28th level when you start getting a damage bonus, the better ratio in the main hand wins out. As your damage bonus builds then a faster weapon slowly becomes better.

Here is a site explaining some of the math(though some is missing):

Wow, thanks for the concise indepth information there. Yep, you've really added to the wealth of Everquest knowledge with that post.

Is it THAT hard for people to post *actual* information here?

But really, I'm glad to know you've had this stave since level 6. Yep, you've helped me so much. Who needs to know stupid information like "How tough is the mob" or "Here's a tip on how to get to the camp" or, you know, stupid information like that. All you really need is to be someone's ***** and get the item at level 6.
I love this

Just got one tonight, and only fought a few mobs, but it quickly replaced my KnuckleDusters in my off hand, and I must say I love it.

I did put it in my main toi make it proc quicker, and it hit for 70!! The only prob was that my Trance stick wasnt hitting for much, or procing much, so once I got my SoS to proc, I switched back. This thing ROCKS!!!

Btw is it really worth that much pp?

The Stave of Shielding drops off of ANY mob in Chardok. With the VI revamp patch on Chardok it is dropping less frequently then it was about 2 patches ago. The weapon procs at lvl 50, this is confirmed from a friend of a friend...I know the routine...but it's reliable information. =) Also, as for the primary/secondary debate that is going on, here's what I've gathered in my 44 levels: Primary hand ALWAYS swings, secondary swings about 70% of the time for me now. Because there are more swings with the Primary hand, the opportunity of this baby proc'ing is raised that much more. My final 2cp: If your AC sucks, or you just want a ton more w/ some nice damage put this baby in your primary slot and go to town. If however you really want to concentrate on your fists because at lvl 60, they are the best DMG/DLY ratio a monk can have, then pop this in your secondary slot, still do hellah, damage and get the benefits of maxing out your Hand to Hand skill as well. Either way, this weapon is a treat for all that can use and I'm crossing my fingers on my next Chardok Raid.

Ok yeah you get a dmg bonus in primary hand, but I'd think that even still the bonus on a 17/28 weapon (based on its raw stats alone) would make you want to dual wield THESE babies (if you can manage to fanagle two of em). Plus, then its proc proc proc and you get some phat ac and hp, and not to mention the MR.

Plus, you're doing some nice dmg at the same time. (always a bonus)

Zoned into the entrance with group, got camo to scope the area out..went past the first mob and at the 2nd PH mobs an underling was holding a staff. so i tell the group hey this sarnak is holdin a staff, could be stave of shielding, they like nah just FS, pull it kill, sure enough SoS =). I was only monk in group and there was no SK or pally, so of course i call NBG (nbg is nice IMO)..and of course the greedy mofos say "NO, we are rolling" won highest roll with an 867 =). Anyways use this in offhand with trance stick now, awsome weapon i love it =) (Went to gfay later..someone offered me a fungi and 10k for it =P..didnt trade tho like it to much)

Does any high level Paladin that has used this weapon and had it proc know which Paladin buffs it stacks with? Usually similar buffs do not stack, and this buff is quite similar to the Daring line, in that it adds to hps and ac.
SoS proc stacks with cleric buffs

I got one of these and can tell you that the Major Shielding that procs does indeed stack with all the cleric hp/ac buffs. Also stacks with ranger's CoE and SoN and with Paladin's Divine Glory (DG does not stack with SoN). Don't know yet if it will stack with shaman Talisman.

This thing rocks. Even if you have a better weapon ratio wise, its useful to use this one for a battle and get it to proc the buff then switch.

Yaulp IV will not stack with this. Really hurts because we lose our ATK and STA bonus.

Anyone use this with SoM?

I use this weapon in the offhand with a Scepter of Mastery in the main hand 13/21. So my delays are 21 and 28. Anyone else use this arrangement? Was wondering how they thought it compared to Jade Mace/SoS or Jade Mace/SoM if anyone has done this. I am quite happy with the damage output and doubt I would go back to a Jade Mace, but I don't know that I am doing more damage mathematically I just feel like I am. Any comments?

Got the same arrangement until I get my epic, then the SoS is going away and the SoM is going off hand. Even though the Jade Mace is faster so you get more primary hand damage bonuses, I think the higher max and better ratios of the SoM/SoS combo vs JM/SoM make it better ... although I have not parsed logs to confirm it.

Hate to burst your buble, but the shielding spells just add max hp's, they dont heal like Cleric, Shaman, or Druid hp buffs.
