The way to go is to buy the windstones. Go to seb if you can solo and make about 7k in 4 hours. Lets see for 7k at 200 a windstone can get 35 windstones. Thats not bad for 4 hours work and at lvl 65 u can get descent aa exp in seb.
what mob and in what zone have the best drop rate for windstone ?

I get most of mine in twilight sea off Earth Elementals...I have yet to see a windstone on any of the other three elementals...IE Water, Fire, Air...I have seen one drop of Terra the named also drops Hardy Pants...Ever so often I get lucky and the bezerker Elemental will spawn while farming windstones he drops fetish of the nimble and every so often fetish of the Agile...I hit a run once and got about 20 windstones and 2 fetish of the agile in a week, I have also seen them drop off Crag Li in tenebrous mountains ...also off grimlings but seem to be even more rare in Tenebrous than in twilight and they are rare enough in twilight...I have yet to see one in Scarlet but a guildmate of mine has confirmed that they do drop there but could not remember off what mob...hope this helps...and on my server 200p is generally the going rate, and when you figure it takes two to make the temper I recommend farming your own...
I have killed thousands of earth elementals and have gotten lots of Iron Oxide and drops of mercury as well as some nice little bits and pieces off of greater earth elementals, but I have NEVER seen even one windstone drop from them. I kill earth elementals when I'm farming air elementals for Essence of Wind, and have not seen a single windstone drop. I get windstones without too much competition from the Grimling caves in Tenebrous Mountains.

the Cral Ligi in Tenebrous DO drop windstones, however all of the "named" ones, i.e. Cral Ligi Torchbearer, Cral Ligi Stormwarder, those types ONLY drop the twighlight sea armor quest component, i have never seen any Cral Ligi aside from the Soldiers, and warlords (in tenebrous) drop windstones.

Let see, a bunch of post off a bunch of different servers argueing over what they are worth. How silly. There worth what you can get for them. On my server there are none for sale in bazaar and haven't been for two weeks. I have sold over 80 of them for 200 plat each. You may hold them for a week at that price and all of a sudden someone will come along and buy 20 at one time. Free market economy folks, remember. Personaly, I charge 200 ea cause thats a fair price to me considering the drop rate on them, and they get bought, and I buy up every single one that shows up in bazaar for 150 plat or less, because they sell too. Before you make a wild judgement about whats worth what and who's willing to pay what, check the bazaar and see how many there are on your server first. If there are none, or few, give the 200 plat min a try for a week and I would bet 10 bucks against a donut that whatever you got in stones is gone in a week max.

Totally agreed , the markets on each server are so uncomparable. On Kane Bayle these go for anywhere between 250 and 500 pp each . I personally sell mine for 300 pp each in bazaar and they go in a matter of minutes after setting up trader.

I got a couple of Windstones in the last two days killing the aliens on the plateau in SD.
me2, easy kill for two druids, 47 & 55.

Well, I got about 30 of them stacked up so far for when I do start smithing Acrylia. Smithing now 182 and going to max out plate BP at 188 before I use the hard to get ingredients for Acrylia. Oh, where did I get them is what everyone would like to know. Muhahahaha, yes, wouldn't you?
Ah, just kidding. Heres what I do. I am a 58 Necro main and every night around midnight I head to twilight and I hunt, make that slaughter, the entire elemental isle until about 8 am, when people start coming into the zone. The windstones drop mainly off the Terra's, but sometimes off the others also. I average maybe 3 or 4 windstones in 8 hours of solid killing spree where I take out the whole island every 15 spawn cycle. So figure about 60 elemental kills an hour for 8 hours is 480 elemetals to get 3 or 4 stones. Some nights I get maybe 1 and one night I got 7 stones. But I also get an average of about 40 essence of wind, 30 Swirling Mist, 20 drops of mercury, and a number of other nice items. I have killed Aero 3 times and gotten 3 lesser guards of haste, worth about 5K. I killed Terra twice and got Hardy pants, (100 plat crap). I killed Hydro twice and the drop was so bad I can't remember. I did Inferno once and got a flameing short sword, sold for 200 plat. And then the whole mess of lower end fetish and amulet drops off the other Huge, Great, Berzerk, Swift, Giant, ones, along with a few nice higher items worth a couple of K each.
So where are the wind stones? Elemental Isle. Are they hard to get? Well, I would say yes they are, unless your a killing machine that can wipe the whole island every cycle for 8 hours straight and do it night after night after night and you consider the windstone drop as a incidental side benefit.
Well, thats more then enough wind about wind stones.

I have farmed windstones to make the temper for Acrylia armor for a couple months now. I have personally seen them drop off the Aliens and Grimlings in Tenebrous Mtns. I have cleared the island of elementals many times and believed the windstone was a myth there but actually had one drop last night. 1 in at least 400 elementals. Dropped off a Fire elemental. On Vallon 100pp seems to be the going rate. I refuse to pay more and other smiths I have talked to have stated the same. As for the drop rate in the Grimling Caves of Tene Mnts. 1 in 50 is about right for the drop rate. Actually had 2 drop on the same kill once ( about fell over )

I've farmed about 25 windstones. They do drop off earth elementals and grol baku (brown) in Twilight Sea. Both drop drops of mercury also. I usually get between 2 to 4 a night and sell for 300 - 400. Hope theis helps.

I got one off a lower one in a camp around the bottom of the zone walls. They were light blue to a 56 and this dropped once in a couple hours.
Windstones are used to make powdered windstones. (2 windstones combined in a pestle = 1 powered windstone.) This is used to make Combine Temper (1 powered windstone + 1 essense of wind + 1 vial of clear mana = combine temper). Combine Temper is used to forge Acrylia armors (go to EQTraders.com and look it up yourself.). Acrylia armor is fairly nice stuff, and a good rout to take towards becomming a grandmaster smith. Unfortunatly, two of the ingredients are rare drops (essense of wind and windstone). Truely unfortunate is the fact that you need 2 windstone for every essence.
So, where do you get these windstones? My current sources say Craig Li (the blue/air aliens) in Tenebous Mountains, and Grimlings (any) in Tenebous Mountains. So far, it appears that grimlings in other zones don't drop windstone. Also, if anyone can confirm that twilight elementals drop windstone I'd appreciate it. I've cleared the island 3 times and have not gotten a single one (have gotten all old world drops, plus essence of wind/fire, reserch components, and spiny weapons.)
Currently, you can occasionaly find 1 on a vendor in Katta for about 21pp, or go to the bazaar (in Fennin Ro) and pick one up for around 100pp. I don't expect the price of these to go up any further because the armor only sells for 1.5-2k (depending on the peice. BP goes for around 2k, but not enough for sale to determin a stable price.).

Awhile ago when I was farming acrylia in the grimling caves. I was inside one cave and me a few friends where seeing these drop. Beleive they were dropping about 1 out of 25 kills or so..had other various stones drop as well as these.

Over the course of the last 19 levels, which I have spent primarily in Tenebrous Mountains, I have slain thousands of Grimlings, so I can state with confidence that the drop rate of Windstones doesn't even approach 4% (1 per 25 Grimings); I have spent quite a few entire evenings without seeing even a single Windstone.

I saw one drop off the Gantru in Umbral Plains today. I kept it for a guildie who needs it for smithing. Seems to be a very rare drops, kind of reminds of the Iksar Blood. That stuff hardly drops either.

Is this confirmed on this vendor that it is part of his standard fair?
My guess is that someone sold this to him and it made Allakhazams original list.

they seel quickly in the bazaar for 200pp
Not sure what server you play on, but anyone pricing them at 200pp on Rodcet nife, would be laughed out of the bazaar. 100pp is max, if you want to sell them. there is one goofball who has been trying to sell a windstone for a week+ for 300pp. NOT going to happen. You need TWO windstones, plus an essence of wind, and a clear mana, just to make ONE acrylia temper.

This item is used to make Acrylia Temper, which is then used to make Acrylia Chain and Acrylia Plate armor. It is a crime to destroy this important ingrediant to some very fine armor. Check Bazaar for current prices of acrylia armor and u will see why windstones are prized.

Common? yea right, thats why none are for sale, and it takes 2 hours to get one to drop in Tennebrus. I certainly hope verant ups the drop rate.

Actually they ARE pretty common. I regularly am farming TM for shreiking substances and pop all the little aliens I can find. Usually in a night (4-5 hours) it is not uncommon for me to come out with half a stack.
And when people are willing to lay down 100pp ea for them it makes me quite the happy camper.

If you are 188 smithing...why are you selling them instead of keeping them for yourself for temper?
On Quellious...they are very rare in bazaar..and if they are for sale it is at 300\350pp each....which i would never pay...I do pay 200pp or cheaper and save em to a stack..then i do acylia smithing run...myself and friends far the ore...I farm them in TM and if i leave with half dozen... I am very happy.
