Had one drop off: a mangled clairvoyant (Grieg's End zone)

Clear all the Grimling forest zone. Just one drop on A Grimling Fleshsoother's near the Acrylia entrance...

I've been trying to get some windstones to drop for the last several hours, and have yet to see a single one. Im posting to vent, and to mention where NOT to try farming for them:

Grieg's End

Scarlet Desert

Twilight Sea

I think I'll head to the tunnels as mentioned by the previous poster...

Have been doing research into the drop rates of these little suckers, will post info as i get it.

Griegs end: Yes, they do drop here, off several types of mob (more data to come)
The Twilight Sea: Spent several hours killing all types of elemental and not a single windstone-essence of wind still drops from the air elementals tho =)
Grimling Forest: Another zone spent several hours and no drop.
Acrylia Caverns: None dropped in easy part of zone for me in over 50 hours of murder, not done much in hard zone yet.
The Tenebrous Mountains: So far only killed a few, but at the rate the cral Ligi's spawn, its not a viable zone anyway

I picked up 2 wind stones in 5 minutes in grimling in the caves to AC... they still drop

Ppl talk about getting 2 or four in an evening. I got about 40 in a few hours time. See below

If you are after smithing ingredients and need a ton (literally) of arcrylia ore; then the place for you are the two grimling mining caves in Tenebrous Mtns. I just solo there and go back and forth from cave to cave. They repop in about the same time it takes me to clear both caves, so its pretty much non-stop farming. One good thing is that not only do they drop all the different sizes of acrylia ore, but they drop windstones about as often as the ore pieces/bricks/blocks. I quickly gathered up two stacks of windstones and got about 40 of the ores at the same time. Be sure to go there with empty bags or have good faction with town one zone over because you will also be getting tonz of those silly useless runes that sell for PP and lots of different Luclin vendor-type gems. Not to mention if you are after words/runes for spell making your bags will be filled up after like two rounds of clearing the caves. I hate having to leave a place once I have established a good farm spot, so I often 2-box another toon there to hold junk. There is no way you can get by without destorying hundreds of thier shiny (finesteel) wpn drops. Since they dont stack your bags will be full before one clearing if you wanted to loot them all.
As far as smithing goes, you still need the wind essence to make the temper. I have found that it is a royal pain to try to get them from Tenebrous mtns. So many mobs roam and atk you that drop nothing you need that you spend most of your time clearing useless mobs. Then, when you do kill the ones you want (aliens) the drop rate on essences is very low. The same time I spent on farming ore and windstones when I got 80 of those, I spent also on essence and got 5.
So your plan should be to head to Twilight sea to get essences. You can slaughter more and faster there and loot other needed stuff while you are at it.

I was in GF and found some off of the gaurdsgaurds in the caves, I was lucky to have looted 4 tonight in a 45 minute time slot :)

I was ML for a guild raid in GE tonight and looted two of these puppies. Didn't think to note what dropped them, pace was a bit quick, but we were not too far in when they dropped.

Let see, a bunch of post off a bunch of different servers argueing over what they are worth. How silly. There worth what you can get for them. On my server there are none for sale in bazaar and haven't been for two weeks. I have sold over 80 of them for 200 plat each. You may hold them for a week at that price and all of a sudden someone will come along and buy 20 at one time. Free market economy folks, remember. Personaly, I charge 200 ea cause thats a fair price to me considering the drop rate on them, and they get bought, and I buy up every single one that shows up in bazaar for 150 plat or less, because they sell too. Before you make a wild judgement about whats worth what and who's willing to pay what, check the bazaar and see how many there are on your server first. If there are none, or few, give the 200 plat min a try for a week and I would bet 10 bucks against a donut that whatever you got in stones is gone in a week max.

I have farmed windstones to make the temper for Acrylia armor for a couple months now. I have personally seen them drop off the Aliens and Grimlings in Tenebrous Mtns. I have cleared the island of elementals many times and believed the windstone was a myth there but actually had one drop last night. 1 in at least 400 elementals. Dropped off a Fire elemental. On Vallon 100pp seems to be the going rate. I refuse to pay more and other smiths I have talked to have stated the same. As for the drop rate in the Grimling Caves of Tene Mnts. 1 in 50 is about right for the drop rate. Actually had 2 drop on the same kill once ( about fell over )

Windstones are used to make powdered windstones. (2 windstones combined in a pestle = 1 powered windstone.) This is used to make Combine Temper (1 powered windstone + 1 essense of wind + 1 vial of clear mana = combine temper). Combine Temper is used to forge Acrylia armors (go to EQTraders.com and look it up yourself.). Acrylia armor is fairly nice stuff, and a good rout to take towards becomming a grandmaster smith. Unfortunatly, two of the ingredients are rare drops (essense of wind and windstone). Truely unfortunate is the fact that you need 2 windstone for every essence.
So, where do you get these windstones? My current sources say Craig Li (the blue/air aliens) in Tenebous Mountains, and Grimlings (any) in Tenebous Mountains. So far, it appears that grimlings in other zones don't drop windstone. Also, if anyone can confirm that twilight elementals drop windstone I'd appreciate it. I've cleared the island 3 times and have not gotten a single one (have gotten all old world drops, plus essence of wind/fire, reserch components, and spiny weapons.)
Currently, you can occasionaly find 1 on a vendor in Katta for about 21pp, or go to the bazaar (in Fennin Ro) and pick one up for around 100pp. I don't expect the price of these to go up any further because the armor only sells for 1.5-2k (depending on the peice. BP goes for around 2k, but not enough for sale to determin a stable price.).

Is this confirmed on this vendor that it is part of his standard fair?

My guess is that someone sold this to him and it made Allakhazams original list.

I plan on checking tonight.. Can we get this confimred by several folks?
