OK,
So much for speculation. Using the scientific method (i.e., actually looking at skill lvl while stacking modifires)here are the results. At lvl 39 skill at 195. With mech lockpicks in prmary or on cursor skill is 198. With lockpicks on cursor and in primary skill is 201. MY conculsion modifiers stack.

I use Cheirometric Lockpick Device (+3% lockpick) and Mechanized Lockpicks (+2% lockpick) and yes they stack to +5% lockpick

well if Haste modifiers dont stack it stands to reason that lock picking mods wont either... of course what actually makes sense in this game? Haste is an ability, picking is a skill...

Last night on Quellious they were selling for about 100pp each. Not sure if any were actually sold though. Seems like it'd be a good way for a new Gnome to make some extra pp.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2002 at 9:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why are all the tinkered items here as new items? These all have been in the game forever and are tinkered my gnomes? well good hunting and safe journey to all.

A new item is an item that has only just been submitted to the site. This doesnt mean it is new 'in game'.

Rogues can cap their pick lock skill at 200, once they hit level 39. The skill won't go up again until after level 50, and quite a few high level zones have locked doors that require more than 200 pick lock skill to open. However, if you use some mechanical lockpicks, your skill gets that vital boost to 204, which is enough to pick locks in Karnor's Castle, Sebilis, Charasis, and even the door in the Freeport bank. These mechanical lockpicks are a great item for rogues to get, if they plan to do some skull-duggery in these high level zones before they get into their 50s... pre-50 rogue survivability in these zones is another matter. ;)

Does anyone know if the Pick Lock modifiers stack from multiple items, as long as your are not over the hard cap?

I am a bard so my lockpick skill is capped at 100, although this is a soft cap. If I equipped this mechanical lockpick and wore my Forhal's Gauntlets (pick lock mod of 2%), would I end up with an effective skill of 104?

Word form the last fan faire from the people who actually did skill modifiers, is that no skill modifiers should stack. I bellieve the only relible test has been done on backstab.

But I would guess that Lockpicking could provide the best test of this - use a set of mechanical lockpicks (+2%) and Forthal's gauntlets (sp?) (2%) and try and pick the North Freeport bank door at 193 skill. 193*1.04 = 200.72; 193*1.02 = 196.86 so if they stack, the Rogue should be able to open the door at skill 193; if not (eg if highest modifier works), only at skill 197 (200/1.02=196.07).

As far as I understand it, the modifiers cannot break 255. Whether or not they stack, I have no idea. I would guess no, though I'm sure you could use more than one item with different modifiers. But that IS only a guess.

[edit: Actually, considering you can use a Tinkered Fishing pole and bait together - they should stack - therefore, you probably could stack same modifiers. Just a thought.]
