This has now been updated. Thanks!
It's ok but...

I personally didn't spend much on mine. I got a metal linked crown (+12 AC +6 Str +6 Wis +30 hp +5 Sv Magic Rec. Lvl 50) which I paid less than 100p for. A few lvls ago I would have loved this but now... I think I'll stick with what I got
Mana
# Oct 03 2002 at 1:00 AM Rating: Decent
Don't really think you understand how mana is calculated...
Basically, don't even question whether you need to get to 200 WIS/INT...you do...just do it and don't ask questions..the mana pts you get per WIS/INT pt before 200 is just insane...get 200 in these areas
After 200 however, before lvl 60, each WIS/INT pt is worth 5 mana pts...at lvl 60, its worth 6...
Altho, as a lvl 58 druid, I've noticed that before lvl 60 I seem to be getting 6 mana pts per...
If you're over 200 with the helm, say it takes you to 203, then yeah, that's definantly going to be good, cuz it gets you past 200
But...before 60, 5 WIS and 25 mana are the SAME THING
What's 5 X 5??? Yeah my pt exactly...
In this situation, go for more AC or other stats...if your Mana item also has hp, go there...mix and match, do whatever you want...but if you're going over 200, 25 mana and 5 pts over 200 until lvl 60 are the same thing
Asking questions
# Oct 03 2002 at 12:07 PM Rating: Good
This is the second post I've seen today that says "don't ask questions" (the first was with the spell Regrowth).

ASK QUESTIONS! Smiley: twocents

Here's mine: Wasn't the "soft cap" of 200 on mana/WIS removed in the last patch, meaning now you get just as many mana points for going from 200 to 205 as you do from 195 to 200?

question
# Mar 06 2002 at 6:39 PM Rating: Decent
whats better +5 wis or +25 mana?
Depends on level
# Oct 03 2002 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
The "breakeven" level is 25, so if you are BELOW level 25, 25 mana is better, if you are ABOVE lvl 25, 5 WIS is better.

Caster's Realm has a good mana calculator.

RE: question
# Mar 11 2002 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
the 25 mana is most likely going to be better. for two reasons. wis affects your mana pool, but at lower lvls its not as apparent, so unless you are of a much higher lvl the 25 mana is going to be much better. actually at lvl 40 i'm getting about 20mana per 5 wis, so even at this lvl the wis would be the better choice. Another thing to take into account is that your wis maxes out, so if you are already 200+wis (i'm not sure what the maxes are per class and such, so this is just in general) the mana, again would be the good choice.

check out EQdruids.com for a mana per lvl chart, it's very helpful.

I believe the 200 wis cap was removed when Shadows of Luclin was released and the new cap is 255 wisdom. What used to happen was that each point of wisdom over 200 had a much lower effect than each point upto 200.
RE: question
# Sep 24 2002 at 2:26 PM Rating: Decent
they changed it again, its 255 (all +7 or +10 per wiz at 45 i rember right)

If you like to quest, every piece of this armor is a gold mine of adventure. However, as a Shaman who loves his mana, the hat seems to be the only item worth the trouble to quest "or" buy. 5 wis is great. The rest of the totemic armor from my own experiance and from what others have told me, is kinda fluff. Its really cool to be able to say I have a set of totemic, but it stops there for over all usefullness if you want wisdom.

My personal recomendation... (not sure how this will apply to other races but I'll direct this at barbarians) Every piece of the Imbued northman ringmail armor set is +2 wis +1str +2sv cold. Its wearable by tribunal only. So, we Shamans of the North were made for this stuff. Thank you 6 hammers. Anyway, Totemic Hat with imbued northman gear will really boost your wis and until you can quest better its quite a nice set of armor.

Wilil Ironbear (Master Smith and 35 bar shaman)

The imbued northman Armor is made by Barbarian Smiths only. It's our cultural armor, so if you don't want to take up smithing try looking for someone who can make the stuff. For more info check out Northman in a search in the items on this site.

I have to agree with Wilil. I play a middle of the road Shammy, and there are better gear over all that is obtainable at the levels to do these quests. If you have your character set-up on this site to do a search, you'll see that. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the Totemic is good gear, and it's not hard to find a lot of the pieces for this epic type quest.....just a pain to get it. Point....if you like to keep your AC and your mana up because you like your Shammy to be all thing to all situations, doing the entire Totemic quest is a waste of time. The Helm, Boots(because of the AC and Str.; and it's easy to obtain), Vambraces (because again, it's easy to obtain, and for AC and Agi....got to dodge those hits you know) are probably the only things worth getting. If you haven't notice too....you don't see to many Shammy wearing the full suit....hint..hint. The best thing in being a shammy is, that we can do many things well...not great, but we can tank as well as cast, and focusing on one thing like AC is fine, but this limits us from our casting abilities, especially if we can never be as good as a tank. So my suggestion is, check out all the pieces of gear that is avalible for your shammy, and make a balanced decision on what gear you would like to have. I've done this whole epic quest and I ended up only keeping four pieces of gear. I can't say it was a waste of time because I made more pp than I invested in (money spent on Dufrenite). But on the other hand, I guess it could be said I could have spent the time to obtaining the peices of gear that I didn't keep. Also keep in mind...and this might just be me....but I feel we shammy have a little more slack in getting gear than a lot of other classes, so you may want to hold onto that plat for something better or spend that plat on making Sow potions to make more money to get something that is better for your shammy and your situation. Just some thought from shammy to another.....Happy Hunts.

However, if you are focusing on AC over Wisdom, the Totemic Armor is pretty good (including the Helm) because it has the same AC as plate.

I went with Northman's myself because of the wis you don't loose to much AC, all though it all adds up, but so does the str/wis. I am lvl 48, and still wear mostly NM's. Every piece of totemic cost at least 160pp for the duef, I hardly charge more then this per piece. consider the time you loose running around all over norath to finish the quest. just my opnionon.. =)

The question that seems to be all over this page is, "to buy or quest". Let me ask a few questions, answer them honestly for yourself, then you can decide what to do...

1) Do you enjoy playing the game to quest, or to lvl?

2) Do long camps drive you nuts?

3) Is your lvl too low to camp this bear alone?

4) Do you ever judge yourself a success in this game from completeing a quest? If so does the feeling last long enough to justify the camp time?

5) Is your time on the game limited? Such as you can only play after you get your homework done and until you have to go to bed?

Ok, having answered my questions to yourself, would you rather camp the bear to get the hat or follow up other persuits and keep your eyes open for one for sale? See, that wasn't too hard.

today i was told it was bad for a lv 38 shaman to wear a bloodsained tunic. i know it is a little low on the ac but hte wis more then makes up for it, im confused, email me plz i will neven see this post again prolly =c) e-mail=cloakedwonder@home.com

Not gonna have much luck emailing anyone@home so...

Check out http://forums.castersrealm.com/cgi-bin/eq/ultimatebb.cgi?&category=8
for a bunch of good shammie info. For a quick answer, 4 wis at level 38 is about 30 mana. If you get aggro from casting a few malo/slow line spells, a higher ac will save enough hp to cannibalize that mana back pretty quick (or possibly your life if the tanks aren't that great)

Camping the Glacier bear
# Jul 18 2001 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
OK, so here is my experience, and some advice on camping the Glacier Bear.
I entered the caves and hung out in the room with the broken teleporter, logged on the whole time, until I saw the first spawn(the 2 wandering IBS's). This is important to do, even if it's camped, because then you will know the spawn schedule. The schedule *is* 6 hours 45min. Exactly.
I killed the 2 PH's, then logged for 6 hours. Also, in my opinion, if you really want this thing it is important to check in at *every* spawn time. 'Cause if you miss one then you no longer know the schedule, as you can't predict when the spawn will be knocked off, etc.
I then logged on and made a new pet, and put sense animal up. You can pretty much bet it is safe to hang out in the TP room, as they always, always come by there in their routing(and the lich doesn't come in there), but if you feel the need to roam, you can check back and forth between Sulon McMoor's room and the Hut with the 3 IBS's. Not sure, but I am fairly sure the spawn is random somewhere between these two rooms.
I repeated this process, getting only the PH's, 4 times. The 5th time, I got 1 PH, and the bear. He was down by Sulon Mcmoor.(this is important to note because the placeholder is not a *pair* of IBS's, but actually *each* IBS. Therefore, you have 2 chances every 8 hours to see the bear.)
I killed the bear. He went down super easy, like less than 45seconds. I used the root/DOT method with pet attack. He dropped the skin :)
So, I logged, and logged back on at the next spawn time, just to see what would happen. Again, 1 IBS and 1 Bear. This time he was at the IBS hut. Killed him again, and let another shammy loot.
SO, the point I am making is, this is a nasty camp, but it is a lot easier on you if you just take the time and do it well-- check every spawn time, stay in the caves, etc.
Good luck to you :)

Decisions, decisions..

I've been debating with myself-- To buy, or to quest? One of my friends sat in that damned cave for many days, keeping track of the PHs and such, and after about a week with only a few hours sleep, she decided just to give up... Hadn't seen anything but skellies and the Lich that roams the cave. I have been wondering if the 750pp I've seen it go for is better spent than the week of camping I could do... Bah.
RE: Decisions, decisions..
# Jul 02 2001 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
Well, It's not worth it to buy. Sure, you have to cast sense animal a few million times, but who doesn't have room to improve div? Well, I got it for free the first time, then somone in my guild told me the bear was up, so i got the pelt. I'm gonna do it again. Basically it's just a really easy way to get cash. Say your camping Ig's or something, or hunting mammy's, ya just bind yourself down there, so eveery once in a while, ya gate down and cast sense animal, and see if he's up. Sometimes, your jsut passin through Ef and he'll be up.

As with many camps, you can go about this alot differently with much less stress. Being a Barb Shm I occasionally have to make the pilgrimage back to Halas for spells or if I just get a wild hair. On those occasions I just make up a few IVU potions and check things out. If its getting past your bedtime, you can go down there, kill the phs, and check again when you relog the next day or whatever. I have spent a total of 1-2 hours down in the cave over the time I have played my shaman, and I have gotten the bear twice. This works, of course, only if you are not one of those desparate people who must camp and get something before they do anything else. Kinda like the crazy maniacs who will spend 18 hours camping a mammoth cloak (hint: go get some exp and loot and just buy the damn thing, Im sure you can get the money for one in under 18 hours of playing time).

Recently completed quest and got one of there. I truly dont think there worth the work it takes to get it. UNLESS, you planning on selling them....then it a whole nother ball game. Costs about 175p and 4 hours of your time...repeat once you sell one...and considering these sell for a good 1K. Your rich ;)
