As of 3/22/10, my leatherfoot haversacks are showing up on the characters that had them as "no trade."

This may explain why you aren't seeing any in the bazaar.

Ever since the newest expansion was released, I have yet to see anybody selling these Leatherfoot Haversacks in the bazaar. Does anybody know if they've altered the recipe or deleted the possibility of creating these bags?

I just wish that the tufts of Dire wolf fur would forage faster than they do. I have been killing giants in Kael areana on my lvl 65 druid with natures bounty lvl 3 for close to 6 hours, on and off, hitting forage as soon as it refreshes and only have 44 so far.

Seeing as it takes 36 tufts to make a single bag I feel I am going to be here a very long time trying to get the 360 to make 10, lol. Have been saving blue diamonds on all my toons for a very long time so have plenty of those. Was hopeing to make a bunch of these for all my alts but after seeing how long it takes to forage enough to make 1 bag I may rethink that idea.

Does anyone know if they are more common on the wolves in iceclad?

I'm thinking he stopped waiting after 3 years. But it was nice of you to reply :)

I've noticed my toons are stronger these days in EQ, I'm not sure the bags are needed as much. Especially now that coins don't weigh anything.

Blue diamonds have dropped in price many sell for 300-350 buy the stack because with the increased use in all hight level smithing and tailoring, they increased the drop rate in many mid-high level zones. my mid 50's druid was quad kiting in Dulaks harbor and averaged 10-12 a night off the ships, and if I sold all the fire opal/emeralds and star rubies that drop there too, I could get about a stack more.
so if your mid/high level you can average about 30 blue diamonds in a 6 hour period. Not to mention about 1 1/2 levels in that time in the low 50's solo.

Has anyone noticed that the combines for this item no longer work? The recipes have disappeared from my vale sewing kit (all the other recipes seem to be there) and even manually adding the items results in unable to combine.

After doing some more research I have found notes that current vale sewing kits (pre Dragon) no longer work. You need to re-make a new Vale Sewing Kit and then it will work. Hope that helps someone else as well.

Hi I'm pretty new to tradeskills is it possible for a lvl 1 toon to get his tailoring skill up to 250 by just buying the ingridients from the bazaar or merchants. The reason I asked is I was able to get my lvl 5 dru up 124 in blacksmithing without even leaving ShadowHaven. Just trying to see if its possible. And yes I have plenty of money to buy the stuff I need.

You cant get past 200 without AA points, which you need to be at least level 51(pretty sure) to obtain. As Ellegon failed to mention. So you can get to 200 , but past that you have to be level 51 or higher with atleast 6AAs to hit 250. Even then you will want to use a geerlok device. Just my 2cp

actually new taanan crafting mastery is only used if you want to get other tradeskills past 200. it clearly says this when you look at the aa. so unless you plan to need to max out all your tradeskills in order to make some stupid WR, that would be the only reason for the aa. as for the person askin, yea make a level 1 he can max out to 250 in only one tradeskill. the aa is only good for passing 200 in all of them.

In theory, it is possible. In reality I would say no. Tailoring is one of the hardest trade skills to raise, as you have to hunt for almost all the ingredients. You normaly need silk or fur of some kind and these drop of mobs. So one has to hunt for them and since they don't drop every time, they are mostly rare. For example: if you need silk, you have to hunt spiders. This might work, if you still get exp for them, but once they are green, it's just a pain in the ***. I can't recall how many green mobs I killed to raise my tailoring, and I got it only up to about 160 or so.

That is the reason why a 250 Tailor is something completely different than a 250 blacksmith, jewelcrafter or fletcher. For example:

As a halfling druid:

I raised Fletching to 200 in about 3 hours in Surefall Glade. All I needed was money...

I raised JewelCraft to 250 in Gfaydark. All I needed was money (although a lot ;)...

I raised Tailoring to 160 by spending hours and hours (if not weeks) hunting green mobs (spiders for silk, cats for furs, zombies for skin).

Belive me, it's no fun to hunt for 10 hours, then be able to make 50 or 60 combines and get one lousy skillup :(

So, if you have a lot of time you might find people selling the furs here and there, but you will nowhere reach a skill worth it in my opinion...

It's really allot easier then you're making it out to be. You just have to have the money to do it. I made it up to tailoring 140 inside of 2 hours in Bazaar. Just buy simpler combo's. The biggest problem I had was making metal bits for studded items. Simplest item in the world and no one was selling them at all.

Remember that there is a Wisdom/Int/Str component in combines (depends on class) that you need to get over 190 for the maximum chance of success. So even though a twink lvl 1 druid can max tailoring, be sure to twink him for his main attribute as well. This was Verdant's way of making the halfling more popular...

Why would anyone even buy one of these? On RN the cheapest they sell for is 6.5k. Why not just go to Sol A and buy a tinkerers bag for 5250pp? Makes no sense to me, they are both 100% WR and 10 giants slots. The bags almost weight the same. Am I missing something?

Another thing to consider, though this is not much of an issue really, is that if you don't have the faction to safely approach Marfen Binkdirple (dontcha just love them gnome's names?) you would have to spend some time aquiring said faction...and thus we get back to the "time is money" issue, so to speak.
Of course there are several ways around this issue if you have friends or space to create a new toon /shrug.
I like Xaanru's attitude: support your local Tradeskiller.

Yes, the weight of the bag.

Leatherfoot = .6
Tink bag = 1.0

For a MONK, 5 of these would only take away 3.0 from his allowed weight. 5 Tink bags would be 5.0.

For any other class, this wouldn't be that important, but for a monk, freeing up 2.0 in allowed weight, really makes a difference.

Also, for someone who can grind in zones like BoT, HoH, or even better the elemental planes, Many drops sell for 20-100kpp in the bazaar. IF you just sold an ornate mold for 75kpp, are you going to hike all the way into sola, to save 1kpp, or buy the leatherfoot bag, and get back to grinding (and maybe another nice drop). Even the drops in normal difficulty LDON can sell for 10k (depending on item). So its kind of a value of time thing. Thats why there are several people selling tink bags for 6k in bazaar, and they are MOVING them.

Personally, I prefer to support the tradeskillers, before I support the person making 750pp for bringing the tink bag from sola to bazaar.

The haversack takes 36 tufts of dire wolf fur, 1 acorn oil, 3 blue diamonds, 3 platinum threads, 3 jars of acid, 3 purified waters. This is if you don't fail at all on the pre combines. with 200 pottery, 250 brewing, 205 smithing, and 250 tailoring the failures on the pre-combines are about 5% on the pottery, brewing, and smithing. Haven't had any failures on the tailoring pre combines for a long time.

Blue diamonds are about 500pp in the bazaar on my server(npcs only hold what's in their visible inventory now, so 99% of the BDs sold to npcs are being destroyed), I try to get the tufts at 30pp or less, the acorn oil costs about 50pp, and the platinum threads cost 210pp per. so 500x3 + (500x3x0.05[pottery pre-combine failure ratio])+
(500x3x0.05[brewing pre-combine failure ratio])+
(210x3) + ([1500+630] x 0.05[smiting failure ratio]) + (50pp for acorn oil/misty acorn)[the failure ratio on the acorn oil is 5-10% as well, but is incidental. Same for making the purified waters too].

so 1500 + 75 + 75 + 630 + (106.5) + 50 = 2436.5
this is for the 3 infused platinum threads.
now 36x30 for the tufts of dire wolf fur and you get 1080 for the tufts

so 2436.5 + 1080 = 3516.5pp

with 250 tailoring and a trophy their seems to be only a 5-10% failure ratio as well so

3516.5 + (3516.5 x 0.05) =

3516.5 + 175.8 = 3692pp

note: the failure ratio at 5% is a best case scenario, and your best chance of getting that is if you do the combines in bulk. ie. 50 blue diamonds at a time. I've done 20 bds before and ended up only with 12 or 13 infused platinum threads. Same with the bags. Sometimes you will be succesfull 10 times in a row, but you can also fail 2 or 3 times in a row.

I've been selling the haversacks for 6k on my server.

To get the tufts at 30pp per you need to check the bazaar every hour or so. If one or two other halflings make the bags then you might not get any tufts, let alone at 30pp per.

The problem with this bag and the reson they are in such short supply they are extramly time consuming to make Tailoring must be Max as well as other trade skills close to max. The recipe to make the items that make the final combine is insanely long and alot of the item are not easy to come by. Plus the bigest market for these are with mnk's that must worry about the wt. of the bags they carry Tinkers bag is same bag but slightly heavyer and it can be baught on a vendor in Sol A for 5250pp (best price). ((However if anyone has one of these bags they are willing to sell or trade for a tinkers bag + 1k send a tell to Townlee on Veeshan)) I have 4 tinker bags on my MNK ATM...

yes my friend, I did notice you said that.

Take a regular, storebought backpack, and put a no drop item in it.

NOW, inspect it, wow look, the ITEM DESCRIPTION says no drop.

Funniest case of this I've ever seen, was a guy who insisted the same thing, and swore up and down the bag was empty. Finally, I got him to right click on each slot, and it turned out he has some no drop whiskers (black, barely visible) in one of the slots. I suspect you had something similar.

Well me being my analitical self after reading all this argument here about prices and forage rates I decided to track my forage attempts. So heres the first half of it...
Foraging in Misty thicket 300 forages with a skill of 200.(not counting epic forage that poped in many times)
Broke down as follows
46 roots
52 black roots
18 rabbit meat
83 pods of water
24 vegies
37 berries
16 fruit
10 fishing grubs
14 misty acorns (e.g. 4.6% change to forage)
300 forages took 10 real life hours of nonstop boredom.
As to ground spawns I found berries only no acorns at all while I strolled around.
I expect tufts to be much easier (every time I go through thurg I get a mess of um...)
I'll add that data later

I was in misty thicket leveling my new halfliing so I could make this bag there is indeed ground spawned acorns there but no point in looking for them they are black dots on the ground (just like in EW or GD ground spawns)and very hard to see I just happend to be standing on one and panned my veiw down and there it was right next to the big stone piller that markes the undead spawns...

Halfling shouted out that he was buying Misty acorns. The easiest way, other then forage, was his way.

If you get a firebeetle eye, an use it as your light source at night. Now a days It can be a pain seeing which itmes you have that give off white light, find them, and pack em up!

It may have just been coincidence but nearly every night yielded these, im sure they appear in the day...but nearly all I found were middle of the night and a ton right before night ended.

We tried to write down the spawn points that became nearly impossible. A TON all over, but a pretty hot spot in that recess by runnyeye and by bat hill. Oddly not many by druid ring. Oh and just on the noobie side of the wall, that little dip too there. The accorns dont sem to spawn where mobs are, but DEFINATELY DO look in low places, it DID seem that they only spawned in lower areas. Perhapse a specific map [high and low] setting could be found to only check certain areas....... might try this.

What made us think there MIGHT be a pattern is 3 berry grove. If you exit town and hand a right. also in a dip, 3 berries spawn, and as a totally 100% untwinked halfling that and jum jum stalk loots can sustan you and make you some cash.

There also seems to be a sort of theme as to their miysterious origin... rivervale, misty thicket.... mist, vail, dawn and dusk... they are easy to find at night, in the yellow glow of firebeetle eyes. Oh, by the way, the color skew for a halflings vision, they almost 'glow'. the human monk and others didnt seem to see this. Like how a dwarven or halfling vision will highlight a mob in a reddish hue... well, in firebeetle light they were almost neon at night. hope this helps.

Also consider that both the infused platinum thread and the final combine are both done by halflings. They have to not only raise tailoring to 250 for any regular success costing a small fortune, but they also have to raise smithing to 175, another expensive endeavor. I don't have a halfling, though I've considered starting one, but raising to those skill levels hardly seems worth it for me. The item is most definately worth 6k.

Do you know how long it takes a halfling druid to gm tailoring so that we can make these things...most tailoring combines involve skins...which we aren't supposed to kill...that means long stretches killing poachers in JP to get the raw materials. It's worth every pp at 6K man...if you don't want to pay it then go to Sol and get a toolbox...and quit your ******** for crying out loud and just play the game!

I agree, not only does it pay for failures but also all the money spent to get their skill that high, plus the tinkers satchels sells from the merch in sol a for about 5500 with steins. And this bag is lsightly better due to its wieght, so it has to be worth more than 5500.

I sell the bags at 6k each or 11k for 2 on Veeshan and sell them quickly. Altho only monks see them as useful other classes hould go buy a tink since its cheaper. The failure rate on these is nuts unless you are a 250 halfling tailor...
#baelenor, Posted: Mar 09 2003 at 4:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The reason why the price for Blue Diamonds has dropped on a lot of servers is cos all the Tradeskillers out there are slowly getting sck of getting gouged for the items they need then haggle with over the price for the items they make ............... Simple really .

I am currently making these on the Quellious server and selling them for 6k. These sacks are tough to make. Each bag requires 36 Tufts of Dire Wolf Fur (forage only) There is a high fizzle on this sub-combine despite the fact that it's trival at 36. They also require 3 Blue Diamonds (another fizzle rate problem under Brewing and Pottery despite fizzle), selling on my server for 500pp each and also 3 Platinum Threads. I will not sell these for then 6k based on the dire wolf alone. Nasty. I forage about 2 tufts an hour.

The following are my current tradeskill levels for January 1st, 2003. These values do not include geerlock:

Tailoring = 235 (main tradeskill - I have GM Trophy and Geerlock)
Smithing = 177
Brewing = 200
Baking = 197
Pottery = 200
Fishing = 200
Jeweling = 200

I also have an alternate character with 250 Jewel Crafting and his GM Trophy.

That is incredibly hard for something that is really no better then a Tinkerers Bag that can be bought from a vendor in Sol A for 5.1k - its exactly same except it weighs 1.0 instead of 0.6. It is definetly worth 6k but I would question anyone paying more then that for it.
#milerunner, Posted: Dec 26 2002 at 12:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Tarew Marr, Check the baz for Blue Diamond. 700 plat and up, Tons of people sell them this low, I sell them this low, It's the only price they sell at nowadays, I don't know what happened but they are drastically cheaper now. Btw I want like 5 of these to go with my T satchel and tink, , If I end up finding someone who can make them I'll get 6 of the harversacks, and sell the dragon bag and tink to make up the cost rofl :p as long as that screenie is correct still, this is one of the best bags in game :) just cant find a gaddanm Halfling GM tailor.. or am I not looking hard enough haha :)

Bought one of these puppies on Lanys'Tyvl server yesterday for 7k. I definitely thought it was worth the 2k more than the tink bag for the lower weight. Awesome bag!! I wouldnt pay more than 7k though

One of the things that contributes towards a higher price is that they require the use of blue diamonds to manufacture. Typically, if you buy these from a stranger, they will go for about 10k to 12k. If you get a friend to make one for you, you might get a better deal, particularly if you provide the blue diamonds.

Really, only monks are willing to spend that kind of money to get a bag that is identical to a tink bag (5250 pp each) but weighs 0.4 less and costs twice as much. If the price of blue diamonds ever comes down, we might see these become more reasonable.

blue diamonds are used to make the celestial temper that is used for most high end items. to make the bag you need three enchanted plat threads to get the threads you need to enchant them with celestial temper. so minimum cost even for a friend that has to buy the diamonds (2500 ea) would be 7500 for diamonds and 750 for thread. plus the time to forage the tufts of direwolf fur. my price to make them if not provided with diamonds would be arround 8k for friend and 12k for others. my tayloring on my 54 halfling druid is 230, so failures are still common on these ( i dont plan on mass marketing these. too costly to make when as said before the tinkerer ones are much better pricewise.

Not any longer. They are between 300-400pp now. I particularly noticed the price drop when LOY came out. They drop fairly often in LOY

Blue diamonds have dropped extremly in price, they have become more common and now you can turn in your planer armor (fear or hate) in at PoK and get a good chance of getting a blue diamond or two. if you go on those raids where the armor would normally rott, i believe now its either claimed for the guild running raid or rolled FFA. ive seen prices down to 1k in the bazaar but mostly averaging around 1500.

Yeah, what servers are you people playing on the BD's are still going for that much? On Morell Thule they are sold in bazaar for prices typically between 500p and 800p. If you specifically auction that you WTB them and set your price at 400 you often get people willing to sell them at that price and make a bit over selling them to the vendor:-)

You should come to Venril Sathir... frequently you can find Blue Diamonds on VENDORS let alone in the Bazaar, for about 300PP; the ones in the Bazaar are even lower.

I found this out when combing vendors for other trade supplies, there are a few vendors on VS that are, lets say, a bit further from the beaten path, that always have blue diamonds in stock. So maybe its the same on your server...

As a Halfling Druid doing my Coldain Shawls, helping out my guildies with Coldain Rings, raiding frequently in Kael, and soloing in EW, I have stacks of foraged Fur Tufts too, (to the point I can afford to sell a stack if I want for 200pp) making these bags a real possibility, well, providing I could get my Tailoring that high! ;)

These are gonna take a lot of work. According to EQtraders they triv at 250 for tailoring plus you need to have brewing, smithing, etc... And ya gotta be a halfling. This is the Coldain Shawl of cultural tailoring. I have a feeling these are gonna cost a pretty penny once they start hitting the market. Time to start buddying up to all my halfling guildie tailors. :)

any tailor that can make these is also going to be able to make some awsome tailored armors for any halfling that follows Karana. (say, halfling warrior, paladin and rangers as well as druids. Sorry clerics, go talk to a dwarf!). While the armor requires BD's in the construction as well (and a small ammount of smithing/brewing) it's well worth it. Not sure what BD's go for on most servers but on Fennin Ro I've seen them ranging between 1k-600pp. Averaging at 800pp. You need 3 threads for a haversack, so that's 2400pp in just BD's for 1 attempt that has a very good chance of failing, even at 250 skill. Figure the make cost of one of these to be about 3k on Fennin Ro. So sell price is about 6-7k. Cheeper to gather the ingredients for 3 tries and convince a 250 halfling tailor to combine them for ya. 3 bags would be sweet, but still worth it if you only get 2.
