Using 80 normal bait I caught roughly even numbers of Cobalt Cod (14 or 17.5%) and Dragon Bay Snapper (15 or 18.75%). There were 22 (27.5%) fresh fish caught. Remaining 29 casts were either fish scales, rusty daggers, waterlogged sandals or lost bait (36.25%).
Using an Anziok's Bait Dispensor I converted 20 Fresh fish into 200 homemade bait (I like the fact this bait stacks in 100's). The numbers changed on me interestingly enough. Cobalt Cod (26 or 13%), Dragon Bay Snapper (44 or 22%), Fresh Fish (73 or 36.5%). The remaining 57 casts (28.5%) were either fish scales, rusty daggers, waterlogged sandals or lost bait.
I feel that I should have dove 200 regular bait for a better reading against the homemade bait but the samples were large enough to show trends, but not large enough by far to account for the RNG being mulish. In a nutshell however, bring regular bait in 6 times the quantity of Cobalt Cod your fishing for. The bait making device is awesome, but it seems to affect the numbers negatively for Cobalt Cod...
I had the same problem, didn't catch any colbalt cod or snapper. But as of last night, 3-3-05, the zone seems fixed. Went there to check and I caught 6 cod and 13 snapper before both of my poles broke. All us tailors can start getting skill ups again, yay. See ya.
I have an alt with a fishing skill of 200, was using the Fisherman's Companion, Catch-A-Lot Bait, after which I had a modified skill of 206. After using 200 baits, I had not caught a single Cobalt Cod or Dragon Bay Snapper. As of this time I have submitted 2 bugs reports on this, and the problem has not yet been corrected. If anyone sees this problem has been fixed feel free to leave a post saying so.
yeah, make snapper oil with the snappers and see your brewing skills go up quickly. they're not great for making plat, tho.
the odds are high that you'll get lots of the snappers. in an hour and a half of fishing (with a fishing skill of 185 & a 5% skill mod), i caught 44 cods, 65 snappers, 88 fresh fish, 80 fish scales and numerous misc.! (been there several times with the same kind of results)
btw, i found that the cobalt cods seem to really like the store-bought bait better than fishing grubs, bookworms or catch-a-lot bait!
I don't think people realize how much money they can make by fishing these guys. High end tailors will pay for these fish when they are training. I will personally pay 30pp each for them, and *have paid* as much as 50pp each. Even at my current buying price, 600pp a stack isn't so bad. They aren't the most frequently caught fish, but if you are able to get into CS, and you need some extra cash, fish these guys!! (Also, farm some arctic wyvern hides for me while you are at it.) :P
