Smelting FS weapons

Fine Steel weapons can be combined in a forge with water to make MQ ore. The type of weapon will determine the yield you receive back. Did it yesterday myself.

Wrong.

You get HIGH QUALITY ore, NOT MEDIUM QUALITY ore. I tested this just 5 minutes ago with a fine steel longsword. You can't get MQ ore this way AFAIK.

I've had a couple ppl tell me that one can smelt down FS weapons into MQ ore but no one seems to have a recipe to do it. Any one else heard of this or is it just someone's day dream?

The FS will break down to make Small Piece of High Quality Ore (3 of these combine to make Small Bricks) and/or

Small Brick of High Quality Ore (3 of these make Large Bricks)

To break down the FS you put an FS wep and a Water Flask into a Forge and combine (you will get varying quantities of Small Bricks and Small Pieces of HQ ore ... hope this helps Smiley: smile

EDIT: The Large Brick of High Quality Ore then makes High Quality Rings: File, Water Flask (1), Large Brick of High Quality Ore (1) in a Forge.

Actually you don't need a lot of money, nor do you have to carry a ton of weight. People tend to forget that you can make a small brick of ore by simply combining 3 small pieces of ore and a flask of water. VOILA!!! This is much cheeper to make than spending 5-6 gold per brick of ore and the weight of a stack of small pieces of ore is much much less then that of a brick. Pluss it takes up less space in your backpack.

As a little side note buy making your own bricks of ore you can actually turn a profit on banded gorgets by just selling them to merchants. Each one will cost roughly 3 gold to make and sell back to a merchant for roughly 8. That will net you .5pp per success. Not bad, just think of how much pp you can make by making banded gorgets for an hour or two. Of course this this is only worth doing for us low lvl non-twinked guys.

As far as I know, the Block of Medium Quality Ore does not drop off of any mobs. However, I do recall seeing some sort of ore drop off of goblins in Highpass Hold, down in the basement. Since there is a vendor in Highpass that sells the Medium Quality Ore, it would make sense that it drops there.

However, the Large Brick of Medium Quality Ore can be farmed from A Muddite Minor (Beholders Maze)and A Muddite Elder (Beholders Maze).
3 Large Bricks of Medium Quality Ore
1 Water Flask
Combined to make 1 Block of Medium Quality Ore.
(Trivial at 25 in Smithing)

I'd suggest you buff up your strength and use weight reducing bags though. These bricks are not light. A port or translocate from the Beholder's Maze to a city with a forge would be a good plan, too. Once you are full of large bricks, running is not a quick process, even with sow.

This information is incorrect; the Muddites in Beholder's Maze DO NOT drop Medium Quality ore of any kind. They DO drop plain, ordinary ore (Small and Large Bricks for certain, and I think Blocks and Small Pieces as well). They also occasionally drop blocks of Silver.

I spent a few hours in Beholder's Maze three days ago after reading this post, trying to get some MQ ore for making Silver Arrowheads. It was quite nearly an absolute waste of time, as nothing in Beholder's gives XP to a level 39.

I have seen Large and small bricks of Unrefined ore drop off gobbies in HHK. As far as I know, their only use is a quest for Harnoff (forget his last name) in the Kaladim mines. Turn in 4 large bricks or 4 small bricks in a box he provides. I recieved 24pp the first time. Bricks somewhat rare, I looted 4 bricks in about 50-75 kills.

this turn in quest works with all the ore merchants and while the plat is nice ..the purpose is to reset or restock the merchant's supply of MQ ore
