Procing

Does anyone know how much this sword should proc or whether it might be limited on what Mobs it procs on? I just picked this up in the Bazaar for 2500pp and its a great sword but it only seemed to proc maybe twice in a battle. My DEX is 110- is this too low for a decent proc cycle? What is a decent DEX number for a 51 Ranger?

Thanks

nope sounds right cause the wep is 25 delay so it shouldnt proc to much unless you get like 150 dex
Aggro
# Sep 21 2002 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
Has anybody forgotten how much aggro a lifetap actually is? blood points are +600 aggro points. so these should be about 300 aggro points. BP in primary and one of these insecondary will be a great aggro grabber until you have a willsapper or something.
Best combo

So which is the better combo for 56 ranger:
centi long and Black Acrylia long
or
centi long and jagged blade of mourning
or
centi long and wurmy
RE: Best combo
# Sep 04 2002 at 4:13 PM Rating: Default
Well I can't tell you which combo is best though I suspect it would be the Black Acrylia LS secondary and Centi LS primary. Centi would give you heavy hits and the Black Acrylia LS would be ready every dual weild cycle with an occassional proc to help. Another combo to consider would be Black Acrylia LS, Primary, Black Acrylia Scimitar secondary. Decent overall damage, good speed, both could proc.

I will tell you what not to do, Wurmy and Centi would be pretty bad. Wurmy is too slow and it is primary only so it slows down whatever weapon you put in your secondary slot. (Secondary slot weapon only has a chance to swing After primary weapon has swung- That would be every 4 seconds if you have a Wurmy. In Everquest terms that is an eternity) I got a good laugh the other day at some barb warrior I saw with a Wurmy and a Lamentation. Talk about a waste. Lammy's cheif draw is its speed. Putting it behind a Wurmy pretty much neuters it. Don't pick your weapons just because ppl say they are good. Use a little judgement. Wurmy also a bit too much aggro for a ranger. I got rid of mine a LONG time ago for that reason.

At your level you should be looking for fast weapons, even the Centi may be a bit slow for you. You more than make up the damage by hitting more often. Also your Call of the Sky proc will land more often with faster blades. Big hits are not a good thing for ranger at your level either, if you pull aggro from certain mobs you will be dead before the clerics even realize you are getting hit.

Well, this post pretty much includes every wrong notion about dual wield that I have ever seen.

Primary and secondary hand delay are not linked. You could have a 40 delay in primary (wurmy), and a 19 delay in secondary (i.e.lammy), and the lammy could swing up to 4 times for each swing cycle of the primary. This would be a successful dual wield, and double attack roll, which is rare, but the bottom line is, a slow primary has NO EFFECT on secondary speed.

The second myth is that Wurmslayer is "too slow" for a ranger. It's not. Its too slow for a Warrior, or the rare (hopefully) Main Tank (MT) ranger. For a ranger acting as a secondary melee, Wurmy is great. The lower speed decreases hate, so you are much less likely to pull aggro off the MT. The ratio on Wurmslayer is so good, that it makes up for the loss of damage bonuses, caused by fewer swings, at least up to lvl 50 or so.

Also, Ironically, if you were to choose the pair of weapons he recommends, in most cases, they should be in the opposite hands from what he suggests. The BA LS is 14/25 when you factor in the magic damage, which is a better ratio than the Centi. It also is faster, meaning the damage bonus applied more frequently. Third, it has a proc, and since primary swings more often, you'll be more likely to proc in primary.

However, if you are gaining aggro to often, you may want to reverse them, just to reduce hate. Although if it happens too much, I'd probably get a new tank, or get your tank some better aggroing weapons.

His next myth is that wurmy is "too much aggro". Very few weapons creat less aggro than wurmslayer. It is primarily the NUMBER of hits, not the damage that creates aggro. Lammy would outtaunt wurmy every time. And faster weapons, as he recommends, will get you dead.

BTW, the only problem with Wurmslayer/lammy combo is that lammy has a weak ratio for secondary. JBoM, CLS, and a number of other weapons will cause more damage in secondary. Wurmslayer is an IDEAL weapon for rangers, as long as your stamina is over 100.

xaanru is exactly right on all accounts. Additionally, the way I read it, the other guy was only considering damage ratio and not damage bonus for primary hand in his comparisons. The only reason faster weapons will eventually out damage the wurmy is due to the increasing damage bonus as the player levels. It is the superior ratio that make the wurmy such a great weapon but at some point in the low to mid 50s, faster weapons are able to do more dps.

Not sure if I miss something here, but aren't you contradicting yourself with that?

Nope. no contradiction here.

Primary swings more often because there is no skill check for it to work. If I have a 25 delay weapon in primary, It WILL swing every 2.5 seconds.

If I have a 1.9 delay weapon in secondary, there will be a skill check every 1.9 seconds. If it succeeds, THEN the secondary will swing. Note that I specifically use an example with a faster weapon in secondary, to prove a point.

Many people mistakenly think that dual weild check occurs each swing of the primary. This is not true. The secondary weapon cycles independently, and will swing every time the skill check is passed. The reason it swings less, if becuase skill check often fails. Follow this example, using a wurmy, lammy combo.

Time in 1/10 sec____Wurmy(prim)____Lammy(sec)

.0 Wurmy swings (check for double attack), Lammy is checked for dual wield, if passes, swings, then check for double attack

1.9 Wurmy DOES NOTHING, still cycling. Lammy is checked for dual wield, swings if passes, and then checks for double attack.

3.8 Wurmy DOES NOTHING, still cycling. Lammy is checked for dual wield, swings if passes, and then checks for double attack.

4.0 Wurmy swings, checked for double attack

5.7 Wurmy DOES NOTHING, still cycling. Lammy is checked for dual wield, swings if passes, and then checks for double attack.

and so on.

So, if you have two weapons of similar speed, BAL, and Centi LS, whichever is in primary will swing more often, since it never fails the check.

/argee
This is also the reason that my dual weilding characters look for a fast weapon for their off hand when they first get the skill. Lower delay equals more skill checks for dual weild. Once the skill is maxed for level, I find the best ratio weapon I can for my off hand.

Elemental Damage (Cold, Fire, Disease, Poison and Magic) do NOT work like Bane Damage.

Bane Damage will add to the base damage prior to damage calcs.

Elemental Damage (As in this Case) will add to the total damage after it is calculated.

This weapons is essentially 12/25, damage is calced at 12, then resist check is made, if it is successful the prior calc is applied, if it is unsuccessful, 2 pts are added to the damage calc and it is applied.

This information seem inconsistent with what I have read over at The Safehouse, as well as with my personal observation with my LSoEE (have not done any parsing though). Can you tell us how you came to that conclusion?

A good test if you have a BAL, is to compare it to a Centi LS, and see if you get the same max hits.

I also found this posted over under the LSoEE
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7576&mid=101115201981921

EDIT: Gathered some more info, it does indeed seem the damage is added to the base damage og the weapon, NOT to final damage.

Nyllith, can you please clarify how magic damage is calculated. I think I read your post wrong. Are you saying the 2 points are added to the damage bonus if unresisted?
My understanding of previous posts on this matter was that bane damage was added to the damage of the weapon prior to calculations, and that elemental damage had a chance to be added (even partially?) to the weapon damage before the multipliers are applied if unresisted (or partially?.)
Sorry if I misunderstood, but I'd really like to know for sure.

Okies this wpn is 12 dmg (+2 magic), so...

1. resisted: it acts as a 12 dmg wpn (ie a normal max hit will be 25)
2. unresisted: it acts as a 12 dmg wpn again (normal max of 25) but after that dmg is calculated then +2 is added (normal max of 27)

This works for all elemental type damages (cold/fire/magic/poison).

Bane dmg works like most people think, if a wpn is 12 dmg (+2 Akheva Bane) then it is a 12 dmg wpn against all creatures except Akhevan's, where it acts like a dmg 14 wpn.

Did I muck up the works even more?

Actualy, no, Atriel, Elemental damage is rolled on before you swing, if resisted this sword is 12 damage, if not resisted, its 14, same goes with all the other elemental damage. bane though, is also pretty much the same, but it only does the extra damage to the creature your fighting. example: if you have a 12 damage 1hs that also has +4 Akheva bane, it would be a 18 damage sword agianst akheva only. whereas some bane damage weapons are REQUIRED to kill some mobs as normmal melee damage does no damage to them, bane, is the only damage that can hurt them... (there are some 2/18 weps with about 12 bane on them i can think of ATM)

procs at level 45,

to let every one know...yes there are better weapons for the same if not better price...htese sell from about 5 to 7.5 k on xeg, and for that price you could easily be sporting veno ax..or blood points..simple fact is its new...every one wants new items...personaly my warrior duel wields a longsword and a spear..she is a barb warrior with all primary warrior stats between 120 and 190 with rbg..so average about 8 to 10 rpocs during a solo fight ...and with the small 45 pt tap can easily solo anythign in dread. so dont discount any lifetap

This is a very nice weapon, the +2 magic hits about 80% of the time and the procs are often. So it's a 14/25 1hs with a 45 dd/45 heal. The lowest I have seen one of these is 5000p and it didn't last long. You can say what you will about a CSS, but this will not sell for 500p.

Stop putting the good weapons to shame, BAL dosent even to be thought as a comparison to CSS, beats the sh** out of it hands down for me... i used CSS at level 15, besides when soloing the heals are great and in group it helps me keep nice aggro and save a lil cleric mana, ESPECIALY if there is a shammy/boon chanty in group, get my dex up to a good 160/180 and this thing procs insane.

Actually he's right, I would probably would go with the Centi SS as well... especially if money is tight.

This swords will NOT be 14/25 if unresisted... it's still 12/25 but will have an extra +2 dmg per tacked on each hit (if unresisted).

Centi SS though has +5 STR, which in most cases will net you +5 ATK. Though I haven't parsed it, I wouldn't be surpirsed if the +5 ATK from the Centi SS ends up doing more dmg over time than the potentially resisted +2 extra dmg per hit.

And procs are nice and cool 'n all, but you do not depend on a proc to help save yer life. If it happens it's good, but relying on procs gets you in trouble... /rude Earthcaller

My God you are innanely stupid. As a soloing ranger, this life tap can mean life or death, and usually saves a shiznit load of heals and downtime. Centi SS is a pos, it can't be compared to this, since it is usually 14/25. Now, lets duel, and watch me suck your life away while you tell me my weapon sucks.

These go for 6k on Ayonae - I think it was worth it.

Dead wrong, in every possible way.

This is WAY better then the Centi shortsword. First, unless you are fighting a high Magic Resist mob, this is 14/25, not 12/25. The +2 magic damage is added to potential the weapon damage each roll, as long as the mob doesn't successfully save vs magic.

Also, the stats on the centi are nice, but 5str and 5 sta will most likely not effect the outcome of a fight. A 45pt lifedraw (dd to mob, AND heal to PC) very easily could. From what I hear, these proc often, so you might see 3 or 4 in a single fight. Thats 180pts heal and dd.

Weight should be meaningless, as almost every melee who uses heavy weapons makes sure they have stamina over 100, and then the weight is meaningless.

Has any one besides me noticed that this seems to be druid usable? At least according to the posted description it is. Perhaps it's that way to take the place of the ******* sword in this line of weapons, which druids aren't able to use. In the regular forged wep line, the forged ******* is druid usable too, but not in this line. I'd be interested to see how many show up in game in the hands of a druid.

Centi Short Sword: 12 dmg 25 dly 5.0 weight. +5 Str +5 Sta. Averages 300-500pp on the server I regularly play on.

Black Acrylia Long Sword: 12 dmg 25 dly 7.5 weight. Effect: Lifedraw.

Lifedraw is a Lvl 12 Necro spell that taps for 45 max hit points.

I like the attempt to give highly skilled tradespeople new items to make but these Black Acrylia weapons, for the most part, do not seem worth the risk vs. reward.

The Black Acrylia Long Sword weighs more than the CSS which will wear out your stamina quicker. From what I can see, these items are not cheap to make and those who can afford these weapons probably already have something better through a drop. Maybe not always, but it seems likely.

Also, those who can afford these are probably not dependent on a 45 point Lifedraw to save their tail in combat. The extra stamina on the CSS (translating in to extra HP from the get go) would be more helpful in my opinion.

Granted the BALS has a +Magic Dmg which brings up the ratio, but I wonder how often this would really come in to play? I honestly don't know on this one. How often would a +Magic Dmg be useful?

ok here it goes

1 if you stamina is above 100 then there is no reason why worry about it droping to 0

2 i bet you that on a group you will wnt more dps if you have the money to buy this weapon you also have the money to have a good dex in wich case if you are not the person tanking the mob but ading in the slaying of it you will have a gearter dps with this weapon.

3 why get a css if you can get this ? everybody i their mother has a css why join the wagon of for ever wilding css people.

RE: Compare & Contrast
# Jul 21 2002 at 12:58 AM Rating: Excellent
quick question... how many hp does +5 sta give? not much... compared to a 45 point(max) lifetap I would take the life tap since it would likely proc more than once in combat anyway but then again I haven't managed to keep a character past 30 so I don't know much about the higher end game.

oh and as to how often + Magic damage comes into play... it is checked everytime you do damage to the mob. when you hit the mob it gets a saving throw vs magic, if it fails then the weapon acts as 14/25 for that round. If it succeds then the weapon will act normally for that round. at least that is the way I understand it.

Anyways that's my 2 cp :)
