Yes.

Lich mana regen is slot 2: Increase Mana by 35 per tick.
This one is slot 1: Increase Mana by 8 per tick.
Orb is slot 5: Increase Mana by 3 per tick.

No problems there.

fcoty is absolutely correct, as how the item's worn effect used to work. However, since around 2004, iirc, Sony made all the parts f the effect on the item, other than the Ultravision, so there is no spell stacking issues with this item now, only worn caps issues.

Mana Regen caps at 15 without AA extensions.
HP Regen caps at 35 to level 65, then +2 to Cap for each level above 65, without AA extensions.
DS caps at 35 without AA extensions (Are there AA DS extensions, I forget atm, but don't remember any off-hand).
Attack caps at 250 without AA extensions.

# Aug 12 2008 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
I know this says it has a dmg shield +8...but the Blessing effect says it will dmg any creature that attacks you.

Is that the +8 is lists or does the Blessing have it's own damage shield and the Talisman give you +8 to your existing damage shield?

<geezervoice>

Back in my day, the game didn't spell everything out for you. We didn't have any of this "attack +20" and "mana regen" nonsense. Just good ol' vague flavor text that rolled a bunch of effects up into one description, and Flowing Thought I, II, III, IV, and V. Then you whippersnappers came along and went and changed it all. My flavor text became a generic focus effect, and the half dozen little prizes it contained became just more numbers on the page.

</geezervoice>

Seriously, though, that about sums it up. A lot of epics, for example, have pictures on here that show an effect as it was at creation, and then the stats of the item Alla has differ substantially. The differences are ultimately that a special worn effect became a lot less special, and 4/5 of what it used to do is just a number on the item description now.

Nowdays, that is part of the appeal of the talisman . . . for those who remember it even exists . . . not everyone and their uncle is going to have it.

Getting to VT requires commitment.

Getting to Aten requires commitment; the talisman isn't a gimme like the Blessed Seeker is.

For the period, it was one of those amazing end-game trophies to have.

Yeah, the effect is really badass and if you can get this at 60 you'll be hard pressed to find anything better, but once you're fully OoW geared you'll probably already have max FT and you can probably find something with better stats/mana/hp/resists.

Still, holy crap that's nice.

Ultravision != super uber anymore sadly. They should change that effect. Most people get it from at least ONE focus effect or self buff or something later on anyways.

That is untrue.
They didn't nerf it.
Soe just changed the way to describe the effect.
The mana-regeneffect was always counted towards mana-regen cap of 15.
You have never been able to have more regen then 15 mana/Tick on worn items.

Actually when flowing thought was first implemented it didn't stack with equal strength of FT. I.e FT II + FT II = FT II, but FT I + FT II = FT III.

This was changed within just a couple of weeks if I remember right because it's just plane crazy!

I can't remember if there was a FT 15 max during that time, though i vaguelly remember hearing FT only went up to version 5 (and 1+2+3+4+5 = 15). Though I just can't remember, sorry.

Correct me if I am wrong, but look up Blessing of Vah Kerrath and you will find a cast time and duration. Therefore it is a spell and all spells will stack with FT15. Now does it stack with VoQ ect. that is another question.
Got my VT key and looking forward to winning this.
RE: Correct me if I am wrong.
# Jan 17 2004 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
Despite Blessing of Vah Kerrath can be cast, this item got it as worn effect, it's permanent. Regarding the stack issue, as far i know, all worn effects do stack with casted buffs and are supposed to stack with every other worn effect.
Most worn effect can also be casted, also there's often differences between casted and worn version of the same buff.
A good example is Fungal regrowth : the fungus covered staff is a clicky and the buff got a slow part that the worn effect on fungus tunic doesn't got.

[quote]What's the point of this item if 15 is the max item mana regen you can get?...

Whats the point? The point is this item is FT8! Dude, if you're telling me that you wouldn't like to have more than half of your flowing thought concerns taken care of with one neck item you're in too deep. All the other effects this item gives you are just more candy for the taking. If you're capped, don't worry about this item. Its that simple. If you have this item you more than likely have PoT9, SD, VoQ, FT15, AA's, and a mod rod at least half the time you're playing. I'm sitting at FT4 atm, and I think this is a great item. Just my 2cp
RE: sigh
# Jan 09 2004 at 4:40 AM Rating: Decent
Have either of you even seen the other stats? This neck, even minus the FT, is probably the best pre-time neck in the game even today. 100 total freeking resists on one item is insane. Especialy a neck slot which are normally not that impressive.
RE: sigh
# Oct 27 2003 at 7:33 PM Rating: Decent
First off, HP regen is capped at 35 for all classes and races.

Second, Casters get 4 hour KEI's and the like.

I've not in recent time have a halfway decent caster go OOM with little more than a KEI. Complaining about this is the least of EQ's balance problems.

Sorry to rant, but this string should be removed as irrelivent.

Wrong.

ALL WORN mana regens caps at 15. FT is just a spell name, worn mana regen stacks up to 15 regardless of what it is called.

so this DOES count towards the "ft cap".

at a fan faire a while back this was asked

Quote:
What is the maximum flowing thought cap?

15. This includes all items that provide inherent mana regeneration, not just those labeled “Flowing Thought.” (e.g. The 8th Shawl)

NOTE: this was back when the 8th shawl did not have FT3, but when it had zephyr of brell as a 2pt mana regen spell.

Now if this were a right click effect it would be a different story.

so in summary:

ANY *WORN* Mana regen effects count directly on the FT cap. Any *CLICKED* Mana regen effects (For example, the emp spawl) will STACK with FT 15.

btw, worn hp regen also has a cap of 35

No, he's right. Unless there was a stealth nerf in the past month or two that I'm not aware of then FT and mana regen stack up to the maximum amount. I forget the amount of the top of my head since I haven't been concerned about it in a couple of months (I don't play my mage anymore), but they do stack. That's the reason for all of the items you see coming out of tier 4 and 5 that have effects with mana regen on them, but aren't aren't in the flowing thought category.

If I'm wrong then correct me, but I'd like to see some sort of parsing to prove to me that I'm wrong. At least link me to a thread on a message board where the testing's been done. FT and mana regen have stacked for a long, long time.

And by the way, you're quote from the fan faire was a while back. Back around the time PoP came out there were some changes to flowing thought, several of them, before Sony finally settled on a system that they liked. Like I said, I'm not saying it hasn't been changed again. I would just like to see the testing to prove it.

Both right, just misunderstanding each other.

FT and other forms of mana regen stack - but only up to a maximum of 15 mana/tick from worn mana regen. Doesn't matter if all 15 points are from FT, or from some effect with another name, such as Blessing of Vah Kerrath. BVK *is* FT8.

Don't get hung up on names - mana regen doesn't have to be called FT to count towards the worn FT cap, and HP regen doesn't have to be called Regeneration to count towards the HP worn regen cap.

I dont think its a damage shield in and of itself. I think it increases a existing damage shield by 8. So, get a DS on you and compare with and without wearing it and Im certain you will see a difference.

One of the best items (armour) in the game for a Hybrid

I am probably not the only person to spend idle moments scouring Allakhazam and Magelo for the ultimate items that would grace an ultimate charcter (in my case a paladin). Well I have done my best to find the best items for a paladin. He wears a full set of Trydan's armour and rejoices at wearing amongst other things this neck piece.

What I find astonishing, is that the hp and mana regen effect of this necklace is far superior to any other regen effect I have found on any other item wearable by a paladin. 8hp and 8mana regen per tick (worn effect)!!! If there is a better effect I have yet to come across it.

The biggest flaw in my thinking must be that I am currently a guild-less, level 38 paladin who solos quite a bit and who enjoys grouping but who has yet to experience anything approaching the "end of the game". Maybe one reason I am so impressed with the regen on this item is because I love soloing. Probably you will tell me that if I was uber enough to get this item I would not be soloing at all but would be neck-deep in guild activities almost all of which would be complex raids quite beyond my imagination.

Ah well, based on my current level of (in)experience, I would vote for this item being in my top 5 uber-est items for a paladin.

Well tell me what you think.

Pardon me, but I think you need to re-evaluate a few things.

Show me a neck item, with any focus effect, that has +20 or better to all resists, 15 or better to all stats, 125 or better raw hp and mana. Please, show me one. While PoTime has not been farmed or explored yet with any detail, I have yet to see a single neck item that has this combination of solid stats. Now then, add to this 8 mana and 8 hp per tick regen, 20 attack (for you melee who may get this), and a throw in of 8 pts of ds and ultravsion, you have a neck item that you may not remove fore a long time coming.

Additionally, you mention getting improved damage items, mana preservation items, and the like instead of this... I want to ask you why? The rarity of the opportunity to get the essence for the neck makes it 100% worthwile spending points on (or whichever system you use). Imporved damage items, mana preservation items can be found from a pleathora of mobs. In truth, your friendly neighborhood mage can summon a baby version. Now then, if you have the choice of receieving this or the mask of secrets, lets say, I may choose the mask (depending on my needs).

It is true the Elemental Planes drops are very nice. Items with 150 and even higher raw mana make me drool. However, the Elemental Planes have not made VT items obsolete by any means.

Gordong, I don't understand how you can say this necklace is crap. Now admittedly, like you said, if I had to choose between this and mana preservation, improved damage, and spell haste, well obviously I'd choose the three focus effects. That's a heck of a lot of extra damage.

But you say that you do 100k+ damage to a single raid mob. That means that you're spending well over your initial tank of 6k mana. And it's a fact that any caster can spend mana a heck of a lot faster than 50/tick. Which means that the limiting factor is your mana regen. If your mana regen was already 50/tick, then adding another 8/tick should increase your damage output by about 16 percent. Which is another 16k+ damage for that fight, just because of this amulet.

So while the amulet may be overpriced in terms of DKP for your guild, it's certainly not useless. I can only imagine replacing this with a focus effect that has a better than 16 percent effect (more or less depending on what your mana regen already is), and even then only if I couldn't get that focus effect anywhere else. And I certainly can't imagine destroying this.
