Most beings consider fish
scales a waste. Something to
be thrown away. But with skill
and patience, and only a small
amount of skill in tailoring,
one can make amazing amices
and cloaks.
The current best items are
made from scales of the
Overthere Threadfin and
Timorous Deep Toothfish. With
| careful application of a
scaler, one can get a large
count of usable Conflagrant
Fish Scales.
With nothing but the tools
already in a fly making bench,
combine ten scales to make a
Conflagrant Fish Scale Patch.
Then take ten patches and make
a swatch. Finally, use ten
swatches to make a sheet. As
|
| the pieces get larger, they
are easier to work with.
Once you have your sheets, you
can use them at a loom to make
the amice or cloak. You will
also need a pair of cut tools
that jewelers use in order to
cut patterns into the scales
to focus the abilities they
grant. For an Amice you will
need Shoulderpad Pattern and
| for the cloak you will need a
Cloak Pattern and two sheets.
For both you need a Spool of
Simple Thread and Phlogiston
Detergent for a final cleaning
of the scales.
Both the amice and the cloak
share three useful pairings of
cut patterns. Round and oval,
half-moon and trillion, and
marquise and square. The amice

| can use an additional paring
of square and pear cut
patterns.
If you are ambitious, you can
use Waterproof Paint Samples
on a Flawless Conflagrant
Diamond to make a Combine
Edging Kit that paints
gorgeous patterns on the edges
of the scales. It takes
extreme skill to make the
| edging kit, but the kit itself
will do all of the work with
one of the amices or cloaks
you made before. It simply
needs Flawless Conflagrant
Diamond and the help of a
tackle box or a fly making
table.
