Stupid AC
# Feb 09 2003 at 12:28 PM Rating: Decent
So I was in upperguk for days and I was camping the AC, finally one day I get the AC after about a week. I kill him, easily in fact he was dark blue to me at 31. Kill him get the Legs, Alright not bad but pointless for a Wizard. Sit down then he pops again right after the first one without killing any Saltwater Crocs in between kill him easily yet again still dark blue to 31 and he dropped the legs again... I was so mad I just gave up. I'm gonna sell or trade on pair (trading for Gatorscale Sleeves) and give the other pair to my Shaman. I just have one question. Is it normal form him to spawn twice in a row?

Been camping him 40 mins, had him pop 3 times. 1 was Ks'd, but he had arms, the first two had legs. He's due to pop again, runed scale croc just popped.
How do you get so lucky?
# Sep 29 2002 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
I took over the camp at 10am in the morning the poor fellow that gave it to me said that the AC hadnt popped yet, he camped and BAM, ac popped and I had my leggings. I decieded to camp him again and 6 hours later I had the sleeves. 16 minute pop? How does one get so damn lucky?

Well... I hear alot of ya saying spawn time is 13mins... well then i guess it's just my bad luck then that i camped with a guildie for almost 5 hours and AC didn't pop ONCE :-( that sucked big time

wierd thing is .. about an hour before i camped him with my mate, i was there alone and each time there was two regular crocs and then AC would pop.. and i got the sleeves on both pops....

Thanks! Good hunting!

I went to the grotto once, just to see what it looked liked. There wasn't anyone there, but the AC was. Within the next three and a half hours I had collected 3 pants and 2 sleeves.
I kept one pants and one sleeve for myself,
the rest, I gave away. I wasn't aware that it could be worth so much ! DOH !

>>First time i killed all 3 saltwaters <<

Just to let you know the Place Holder can spawn as 2,3, or 4 saltwater crocs. I can usually pull them one at a time if I start with the one closest to water first and then move on.

Sometimes the next one will aggro but not often.

I camped the croc for about 7 hours.. tho it got stolen for maybe 1 hour... anyway, for the first bunch, AC didn't spawn at all. Then, around 6th hour, it spawned by itself with no other crocs. Killed it and received legs. 16 minutes later, it spawned alone again and dropped legs again. I logged and took a shower. Came back and a saltwater croc was in its place with nothing around it spawning. Killed it. Next came 3 crocs, took em all out. AC spawned next alone. Dropped arms. 3 more crocs went out. I ran out of bat wings and I dinged to 29. So I just left and went to buy spells. VERY EASY camp for 28 Druid.
Strategy for camp is if more than 1 croc spawns, sick one on the others and do it again and again until there is only 1 left. DoT and DD when there is only 1 croc. Be warned, resists and one on one method may cause mana burn and may fail. I suggest binding near entrance of Upper Guk and have gate memorized, unless you plan to try and out run the crocs.

Camped it again the next day. When I got there, the middle croc was there. Killed it. Waited for next spawn. 5 crocs... must have piled up or something from the inactivity of that 1 croc. =)
Next, AC spawned.. more legs... so now my collection is 3 legs and 1 arms.

Camping the AC
# Nov 25 2001 at 8:54 PM Rating: Decent
The Ancient Croc is a bit tricky for a mid 30s cleric to solo... although the placeholders are easy. The best thing to do is camp this with someone wanting the sleeves if you're a WIS caster, or legs if you're a INT caster. I had a lot of fun camping this with a 36 wizard. When the AC died, he carried only the legs for me.

The AC is easy for a lv36 cleric. He took me from midway though 36 to now midway through 37. Just make sure you have full mana before you go at it. Have atone memed incase your getting your butt kicked too.
Just root, nuke. Thats it. He resisted about one of my spells a battle and maybe partially resisted a couple of my nukes but on a full tank of mana he goes down pretty easily.
I had to run from the camp once when I accidentally aggroed 3 crocs on me at once. Threw up DA and swam like hell (136 swim) I didnt want to gate cause I was bound in Gfay and I certainly didnt want to die either heh...
I camped him for about 7 hours total one day, he spawned 4 times. Dropped 3 sleeves and 1 leg. However, a shammy friend was with me during the first hour and left me to solo the camp for 3 sets of sleeves =p. Argh...

i've camped this many times, and kinda get insulted when i walk in and its camped, then the person instantly jumps at me with "IT'S CAMPED, PLEASE LEAVE".

best thing to do is sit there and /camp or if you're more daring bind there and gate in periodically, after all its not camped all the time.

and ASK to share a camp, don't just assume the next spawns yours.

I hate to admit this, but I was one of these IT'S CAMPED! Please Leave folks awhile back...

Somewhere around my late 30s I had gotten the camp (finally) after countless visits to Uguk. I am talking countless I must have visited 50 or 60 times for various reasons only to find the thing camped. So naturally when I finally got myself the camp, I was very happy, Wooting at my guild and feeling in love with life. And I did have more than a couple people walk in on the camp. One guy, a Wizard somewhere over 50 (can't remember now) actually had the nerve to walk in and and just start killing the placeholders.

Now I am a great deal older in the game and far more mellow in regard to items and money. And I wouldn't encourage anyone to act this way when they are camping something. But whoever that person was, their reaction was most likely due to the simple fear that their hard work and time was going to be wasted becuase someone stronger decides to show up and take what is rightfully theirs. I feel for you, having been reacted to in this way, and I feel for them, they must have suffered at the hands of farmers either earlier in their career if they are higher level, or had heard stories and feared this if they were younger.

Camping can be a nasty business, with the endless waiting, and the fear of losing it, of dying, or of simply not getting your item at all.

I did not even know these things existed when I saw someone advertise them in EC for *15pp*. Being a cleric, and not a particularly rich one (yet) at that, I jumped at the chance but they were sold before my tell hit the floor. :(
Not that it matters but..

I have read alot in this item about who should get the kill during a camp. As I have recently camped for the testament of venear, a 7 hour spawn, I was informed of the rules by our head GM on our server. I asked, if someone comes in here and takes the kill from me even if I have been here for the full 7 hours can I don anything about it? GM response if you did not hit it first, technically they did not KS you, you must hit it first to claim the MOB. He went into details about major kills like dragons, but that info goes for minor camps like these legs. I know it sucks for all of us when a level 60 walks along and zaps something you were camping, and it is really annoying, but atleast you have one advantage, on timed spawns, you know when it will be back so come back and get one for you later. That is the only advice I could get, and like real life if someone can get something before you, THEY DO...

One technique I use when looking for a fairly heavily camped item, as I did with the legs, is to offer to help the person who is at the camp to get their item more quickly. I arrived at this camp with my friend (myself 30 cleric, him 30 paladin) to find a 38 druid camping the AC. He had been there for about 9 hours waiting for his turn, and had been doing the camp for about 4 himself. We offered to group with him with the stipulation that he would get the legs, being as it was he who was there first. With the 3 of us combats were quicker and downtime a lot less, so we cycled through more spawns in less time, and within an hour he had his legs. Then he offered to stay for a bit and return the favor, and luckily in about 90 minutes I had a pair myself as well. So instead of asking to share, or calling in a GM to make people share like in Kindergarten, cooperate with each other and make everyone's life that much easier, and their camps that much shorter.

Aye Gartha, I use this technique myself often. It almost always works out great, and you meet new players and make some good friends that way. I can only chuckle at the folks who adamantly reject help for fear of being burned by a loot **** or something. Oh well, it will be a long lonely road for them. :)

The croc is pretty heavily camped on Bristlebane but you can find it open occasionally. I have regularly hunted in lower guk and generally do a camp check as i run thru upper guk going to and from, and not too often but occasionally it's open. If you want the legs as most people do, your best bet is to wait til you are high enough to solo the camp and detour there if it's open when you pass thru.

As for camping rules - about 98% of the time people will accept that a critter is 'camped' and move on. There is that 1% that will call in a GM to make you share and that 1% that will KS. If it looks like someone is going to KS start logging your text so you can report them. Nobody really knows or understands the play nice sharing rules, alot of people think that it means you can keep the camp til a major drop occurs then you have to give it up - this works for you if you already have the camp :) If someone enforces sharing stay there and keep the camp to yourself til the GM comes and only then agree to share - most likely the person is hoping you will leave and hasn't petitioned. If by chance a GM does show up you have to agree to share, try it for a short time and see if the other guy will leave - getting you to leave is still his goal. Personally i think sharing rules stink - especially where you have gone to alot of trouble to break a room's spawn and someone that isnt powerful enough to break the spawn or hold the room comes along and requests that you share. After all taking every other spawn sucks, you would think that you have a 50-50 chance of getting the spawn where your item drops but it never seems to work out that way :).

# Aug 19 2001 at 9:00 AM Rating: Default
agreed!
i'll share only if the person isn't an ***, and i've found a few people that are real stuburn about shareing a camp. its said when a 24 paladin has to KS a hole camp to make people share. i mean come on i'm killing greenies here freakin share already!

I would tend to agree.

Half the time the people that just don't leave and you end up having to share a spawn with will get frustrated and leave if you sit quietly and take turns. Apperantly this is the most disturbing behavior on Norrath, for I've seen more that a few people abandon ship after 15 to 20 mins.

What a world we "live" in. :)

If this is overcamped on your server, you must have a pretty narrow market for gear. For the amount of time you have to put in on this camp, getting an item that retails for 700pp if you're lucky, you might as well go do something else (can anybody say Unrest?). The only time I've seen this camped is by people waiting for a turn at the fungus mutant, and usually even then, the people doing the camping are doing it for themselves, for a guildmate, or for twinking -- very rarely for selling.
