does some know if there is another one hand blunt weapon that gives the same pulsating effect as the essence.i have a monk charactet that has an essence and is looking for something to match
Well, there are a lot of monk weapons with this effect. I believe any weapon that starts with 'Fist' , such as Fist of Rock, has the same graphic, the red pulsating thing. A few of the higher end items have this as well, but I assume you're looking for something tradable.
--Edit-- Shoot, I just noticed you said 1 hand blunt, now that you mention it, no I dont think so, they are all h2h weaps. This was around before h2h weapons existed really, so it was flagged as 1hb.

Posted:Jun 30 2002 at 3:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Doesn't matter if U R a twink or not. If people are saying stuff about U - good. Means they are watching. Strut your stuff. U know U earned it or made it yourself. If U are an Ebay nerd - boo! Go play UO or something! =) I am definitely gonna twink my alts when I get my trade skills high enuff.
Ok ive been playing EQ for 2 years now and my highest lvl char is 37 Rogue. I created a monk which is currently 25 and ive been wanting to twink him sincei made him. So far all i have are a couple Wu's Fighting Baton and Essence of Dol with a bit of other twinked stuff. Ok i admit i was twink at lvl 10 but now you would say oh hes not that twinked cuz im close to the lvls that can get this stuff. Sure i want to twink him some more like give him a couple KDs or something and some other armor. But i cant and people yelled at me at lvl 10 cuz i had wu's and Fighting baton calling me a Twink and i shouldnt be playing if ima twink. Well this to all those that yelled at me: I earned the items i gave to my monk. I spent my time dieing and fighting to get my monks these items to make him look decent and actually have a fighting chance if a creature yellow or red to him tries to attack. Sure you may not like me i dont care but you have no rite to tell that i cant play this game cuz im twinked. Just becuz you decided not to twink you char its all on you, but i did thats how i play if you dont like it then to h*ll with you.
I left the game and came back, starting completely over. I now have a 44 Necro that is outfitting my characters with gear and cash. My necro has worked for every bit of gear and plat I have. If I decide that I want a particular piece of gear for another character I have, then I work towards it.
If I want to twink my characters, then that is my decision. Some agree, some don't.
Ever bought something, used it a bit and then decided you want something better. So you go out, buy the upgraded item, but you still have this perfectly good item left. Do you destroy it over giving it to your sibling/friend/child because they didnt EARN it through blood sweat and tears the way you did? Twinking is just one more way that Everquest is immitating things that happen in real life IMHO. If we are going to limit twinking because its unfair and they haven't earned the right to wear or use some paticular item, lets do away with players selling items to other players and driving the price of items sky high due to supply and demand, another real life fact. If you have it, use it. I for one don't care if your higher level alt got it for you, your higher level alt bought it for you, you found it at a merchant, or someone gave it to you. Use it with pride and I will fight by your side any day. Who knows, one day maybe being twinked will save the lives of you and your group.
Lastly, to address those people who only take offense to people who are twinked from their friends, how many of you would turn down a Treasure Hunter's Satchel if offered to you because you didn't "earn" it?
Ok, I'm done now, gimme a minute to put on my SVF gear before the flaming starts.
To twink or not to twink, that is the question. Weather it is nobler to twink thine own toon, or the toon's of others. Okay now seriously. Twinking is part of E.Q. If twinking wasn't part of E.Q. Then there would have never been a auction command. They would have never made the Bazaar, Shared bank inventory slot's, or shared paltinum slot. But to get to a real point here. All of you out there that moan about twinking, are either not capable of twinking, or sponsor it. If you are low level you can't twink. If you are high level, well do you really think that centi-shortsword your selling from ME a 50+ zone, is being bought and used by a 50 + toon? If twinking burns your hide, don't feed the fire.
twinking isnt a bad thing in almost every case. but on pvp servers, its just a pain in the ass. i started a ranger on pvp diety cause i thought itd be a lot of fun to play where other people werent twinked. i was wrong... when i finally got level 9, went out to try my spells (my weapon was a 4/23 cold iron rapier i bought from a vendor for 3gp), some bard attacked me. she had a dizok wristsnapper, 8/18 and stats. of course i died. i lead a newbie friend to qeynos because he could never get there himself without dying, and in the qeynos aquaducts i tried to camp qubert for the 3int earing to make some cash. a bard of my same level attacked me, and was hitting for the damage cap very constantly. i had 7pp in all my levels i had earned, and he looted and took it all. i quit that server, and made a ranger on another pvp. at level 9, again, a twinked rogue killed me, and i got tired of it and quit. as long as twinking on pvp servers exists, it will never be equal and fun to be a newbie.
#natew,
Posted:May 27 2002 at 12:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i have no problem wiht people twinking. Think about it u could not twink a char if u did not put the time in to get it. it just makes those lower levels go by a little faster.
My mains a 40 drood and about all he's really good for is tailoring and brewing and porting. But I love 'em all the same. Druids just grow on ya, like tree fungus. However....I recently made a human monk and at level 10, he's pretty cool. My drood made everything on him, all wu's, barring a lumberjack cap ( GIVEN to me)gem inlaid gaunts ( also GIVEN)and a necklace I can't quite recall the name but gives +7 to agi and dex, I think ( which I stumbled upon with my druid at an open bid and bought for the ridiculously low price of 100pp)So anyways I was in CB the other day cuz even with nice gear level 10 is still.....level 10, ya know? And i am getting absolutely assailed by someones train of leggo's and emmi's and I am going down and a high level (30+) monk is standing there when I yell for help and he says, to me directly, "you're a twink, this should be easy for you". Well, I died. Got my stuff back and thought, yeah I'm a twink. And is that so bad???? Cuz the way I look at it ( possibly erronously)somewhere along the line I had to spend ALOT of time to get my skill high enough to make Wu's ( which incidentally involved ALOT of failures)not even thinking about the ENDLESS hours I spent farming silk in Upper Guk ( my condolences to the hundreds of spiders I've slain)and the pp given to the master brewer who supplied the Kiola's( cuz brewing is boring) and the enchanter who hooked me up with the mana. All day if I didn't spend 3kpp + LOTTA TIME to "twink" my monk I didn't spend a dime. And thats probably a conservative estimate. So I don't think of it as being "twinked", I think of it as being "invested in". BTW, should the guilty, spineless, yellow dog that abandoned me in CB read this ( highly unlikely but always possible) all I can say is DON'T HATE ME CUZ I'M BEAUTIFUL. Oh and one other thing....I don't have a weapon yet, I still use my fists and feet.
I'm not completely against it as it is something that would happen in real life, a higher level character will hand down some of his less useful equipment to the needy. What i do object to is the way people think that they have earned the items for their twink by virtue of spending the time using a higher level character. EQ is supposed to be a roleplaying game and all the characters should be treated as individuals. When you create an alt why do you do it? you do it to get a different perspective of the game, to play out a different role and to have new experiences. How can that happen if you are only creating an alt coz you can twink it.
I think players who think that twinking is a bad thing are losing sight of the fact that those players that do twink PAY for the right to do so. Twinking is (currently) allowed by the game and if a person chooses to twink so be it!! They have paid for the privilege. Just as a player who thinks that twinking is wrong has the right to not help someone who is a twink (or he thinks is a twink). They have both Paid for the privilege to do as they please. For those that raise the argument that twinks don't know how to play their characters at high levels you're right some don't, but if they keep at it they eventually learn, just like you did even though you did it the hard way. So I say if they want to be a twink let them and don't chastise them because they are. I'm off the soapbox now.
The 30 monk was wrong in leaving you because it was easy because your twinked. Your wrong in calling him names or getting angry because he wouldn't help you. You lost nothing since your 10, so its no big deal. The truth of the matter is however your monk is twinked, by your reasoning if I camped a full set of ravenscale for my rogue its not twinking because I spent time to get it, just not with my rogue. If you had done your wu's with your monk it would be fine, but you didn't and therefor its still twinking. Sadly VI doesn't seem to want to put level limits of any kind in EQ, which would make twinking useless. As it stands now, a great deal of any low level characters are twinked, and it hurts the vital skills learned at low levels. I however, will admit to a few nifty things I've picked up on vendors cheap or got a drop that I passed along to an alt to check it out, but I wouldn't blink if they couldn't use it. The problem is its so widespread and so many can't play without it that people get disgusted about it. If you want to be mad about anything be mad at the super twinks who take it to disgusting levels and make people not help you because you twinked a bit yourself.
Heh, think about this....he was a level 30 in CB!! If he wasn't there to twink one of his own alts (Screaming Mace, Dirk, Tunic, Shield, etc)...then what was he doing there? Monks can't PL (and if you think twinking is bad, then PLing is MUCH worse)
Monk FD's - "Okay, just keep hitting it, that's it..see? I'm helping you level..."
Anyway...the problem of Twinking is WAY overrated...Why? It's based on the fact that the market changes so much and items drop in value (some to the floor! I have items I could've sold for 3-5x more when I got them! Sitting in bank cuz I never felt like wasting my time auctioning...and now they're worthless...if I want to put them on an alt when I decide to try another class, then it's MY CHOICE)...If I have a Druid who can kite HGs for mucho cash...it's MY CHOICE if I want to spend that on items for my alt when I see something I want...heh, maybe we need "AltFax" (CarFax..nm)...look up someone's alt and see just HOW they twinked their character, honest or not? ...anyway...if I have 2k sitting in the bank waiting to be spent on something cool, and I see a CoT (example, I forget actually price) selling for a lower than normal price, I can buy it, give it to a monk either I or someone else own and it's NO ONE's right to say I'm wrong for "twinking" it... I had a friend just join EQ...and I'm level 49 now, and she's just starting...it would be a CRIME to make her start with nothing and still have nothing at level 5...without me helping her learn the ropes with GOOD equipment...it's like saying "Sorry, wouldn't want to twink ya...I'll hold onto this CentiWarHammer in my bank...you can use it when you're of proper level...keep using those rusty maces"
The only ppl who should think Twinking is bad are ppl who got it ALL their own, and then...they STILL don't have the right to give ppl crap about it...some oppinions should be kept to themselves...just remember when you were grouping in DL for hours, you'd rather have the Warrior with 2 Centi Longswords than anything lesser... why? CUZ IT HELPs...if ppl didn't twink, those ppl who play 2 hours a day, 3 days a week would get level 30 in 4-5 months...and that's if they didn't take the time to look for affordable auctions....twinking, it's not bad, it's just not for everybody, and it's no one's right to tell you you're wrong for doing it....sure, twinking turns rusty weapons into junk...but that's what they are anyway...why go up to Fine Steel when you can jump to Focused Ethereal? (just an example)
Oh, and about using Tradeskills to "twink"...if you didn't give the items to other characters (yours or anyone elses), you'd be selling to vendors for chump change...cuz the high stuff, ppl sell for too much (because you "can get better for less"), and the low stuff ppl won't buy for enough...(because you "can get better for less" ..or "make your own")... 'Nuff said
Twinking... to some it's just a harmless way of making the lower levels a bit easier.
To some it's about having a character that looks cool... sort of an artform.
Others want to just make the most outrageous twinks they could possibly think of in order to make other people feel bad.
For example, I saw a lvl 3 Vah Shir Bard with FULL Singing Steel, and I've seen an Iksar ShadowKnight with 10x better equip than I have worked for my whole EQ career... at lvl 5.
I think twinking has become more of a joke than a little "helpful advantage." I just hope this game doesn't turn into something like Diablo.

My policy in EQ has always been to help other monks in need, so i too passed on my Essence of dol, fighting batons, CoT and even my wu armor on to another monk in FoB outside cabilis one day, after i finally got into a guild where i felt home and started to get better gear.
These items are really no value these days, so if i get by one i usually get it very cheap and i kinda like giving it to a newbie monk, most get extremely happy.
But again the player has to be a "genuine" newbie, not a twink, that can be found out in the way the person talks really, and i hate when the twinks try to beg stuff off me, they should go buy their frigging gear, true noobs have better need.
#Barneby,
Posted:Mar 01 2002 at 5:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) genuine newbs will most likely die and lose all the gear you gave them. but then again, the gear has almost no value anymore anyway...right? hell...i've played for a while but i choose not to twink my chars. so...judging people on their talking style doesnt really do justice here. i've played games online for 5 (maybe 6?) years now and picked up the "talking style" from 3-4 diff games, so again you can't really use it. oh well...do as you please :)
These go for around 100pp now. I got one then not 20 minutes later some guy trade me a Polished Steel Ulak 9 dmg 27 dly 3 ac 3 str 3 wis 25 mana and other stats for my EOD. The PSU is HTH so that helps my hth attack considering at my level its like 5 dmg 36 dly or something to that effect. Anyway...the EOD is a very good weapon up until the Fighting Baton or COT can be aquired. =)
I was helping a couple people one day and the kid's father logged his main - 50+ Monk! He demostrated to my very limited new low level Monk (after telling him i had a low level Monk) the power and speed of his abilities. Needles to say I was extremly impressed. Then, for helping him and his son, he bequethed me 'stuf collecting dust' from his bank - Essence of Dol, Cane of the Tranquile, Serpentine Bracer, and Crystal Covered Shroud! I thought them an awesome set of equipment and thanked him profussly after I said that wasnt necessary to give me such! Well, to this day and onward, when I get better gear for my Monk, I will pass on these as was done for me. But until then, I will enjoy useing them!
I was running through EC on a way to a port in WC and happened upon someone fixing to sell this to the Shady. I know they usually go for about 250 and i had 110pp on me. But i sent a tell anyway and he said he'd sell it for 70pp! After i found him and told him it was for a friends new monk, he gave it to me for 50pp!!! Must have been that one time when i was the right person in the right spot at the right time ;)

on saryn these run for around 300pp, as they should. fighting batons are around 400, and the COT go for around 600. i have no idea how much blackjacks go for.
as far as damage per second goes, those four (pretty common monk weapons) go (worst to best):
What everyone have to say on this choice Essence of dol with my Cane of tranquil or blackjack with the cane? The wieght difference is ALMOST negliable. 1.8 lbs. vs .1 (i think those are right) blackjack is 7/21. You go for the speed or the Bang? ....and yes I know the Fighting Baton is better but...I don't have one of those.
First I want to say to all you "wanting to start a monk twink" DO IT, I did it and now im lvl 55, my warrior (once my main) is lvl 30 :P So I guess that that proves that monks RULE, I`m not sure if this has anything to do with the main topic of this message board, but anyways start monks, they WILL outdamage a warrior if they be a little tweeeeenkie
I was auctioning to buy a cheap 1HB for monks inside of West Freeport. Within 1 minute, a monk around lvl 25 offered to sell this to me, but for 300pp! I was currently playing as my lvl 16 mage, cuz my mage (16) and monk (12) buy stuff for eachother if the price is right. I said no to 300 but i tried to bargain with him. 200pp and wu gaunts. He said no. His loss cuz within 1 hour i got it for 175pp, prolly the best price. Average price on: Zebuxoruk 200-300pp. Average price i pay for stuff: 30-40% less. Man im good.
I love this little thing. But I have to say, I'm even luckier. I was blessed by finding a guy wanting to unload this and a wu's tunic, and my baby monk (lvl 12) couldn't resist the price of 75pp total.
Nice item, and if you can pick it up for anywhere close to 100pp...do so, it's worth it (worth more, but it's up to you how much you want to pay for your alts).
Well, I am faced with the question myself. I have a guildee with a Baton to spare and I have one and EoD all ready.
My call is, I'll take the hit on the delay (Ratio goes up .3) and avoid adding 2lbs to my weight. This leaves me with the dex bonus (no bigie either way) and since Delay doesn't effect the offhand as directly as the primary, I don't really lose much.

The Fighting Batons are much better, it has dmg 8 dly 20, and can be put into primary slot, versus the Essence of Dol which is dmg 10 dly 28 and can only be put into secondary slot. The Fighting Batons are the best thing to have on a monk until you can get a Jade Mace which has dmg around 10 and dly around 18. I have a 22 monk, once I got two Fighting Batons, I sold my Essence of Dol, now I have some Velium KnuckleDusters( dmg 10 dly 25 ), which are still in my secondary slot with my Fighting Baton still in my primary slot
Just to make sure, the price on this is so high because it's such a bitchin' look, right? I mean, 10/28 is good, but it doesn't seem 400pp good. (Of course, I will be looking for one ASAP, even though I don't play my monk much.)
What is better, an essence of dol or cane of tranquil? Right now I am fighting with cane and wraithbone hammer and would trade cane for essence and then use wraithbone and essnce combo
cane by a lot, i say i never really thought of a wraithbone as a great monk item... but the cane and dol are great monk items for sure, good paired up cane- 11/24 and a bit heavier than essence essence- 10/28 5 dex, low wieght ratio is better on cane, 1 more dmg and 4 less delay... if you can afford a cane defenitally go with that

There is no "correct" price. Welcome to EQ where someone will try to sell you a 2pp item for 50pp in a different zone, or a desparate person will part with something worth 10kpp for 5kpp.

Flame me for being a newbie but my only character is a 30 level monk who has fought primarily in FOB, Kurns and the Giants in WW. Never been any other character. Other than the furbies in Kurns or the occasional goblin in WW, I have encoutered few casters. However, Dalnir is a different story. Since level 28, I have been trying to hunt in Dalnir and those Coerced destroy me with magic, primarily fear. While a monk's special attack can interrupt casting, when timed right, the question is, does the attack from the Dol bash and interrupt spell casting or does it just crush, like a baton and no spell interuption?
Also, a few weeks ago, I looted a sap of piety in Dalnir off a gnome and I purchased a Dol last night. If weight is not a consideration, which weapon is better for a 30 lvl monk. Sap is 13/36.
Actually the baton will interrupt spell casting. Any physical attack will including the essence of dol. When PC's and NPC's advance in level, they get channeling which allows them to continue casting when hit, however the more times you hit them while they're casting, the more likely you are to interrupt. Stun attacks and spells will always interrupt spell casting.
i have one, kept it on from lvl 8 and up, so i was working on my 1hb skill the entire time, now at 24 i can equip my baton for a nice set, and my 1hb skill is somewhere around 125, (without the skill equiping the baton in your primary slot drops your atk significantly. The secondary slot doesn't drop atk values so by placing a weapon there you can raise your skill without hurting your atk value(try it and see). weight is very nice on the dol at low levels (before cured silk armor)
hey guys don't chew off my head about this one but which combo is better? EoD and a fighting baton or 2 Fighting Baton's? The +5 dex is nice nut i'am asking for the long run.
Off-hand is way less important than main hand. This will do only 12 percent less damage than the off-hand fighting baton, +but+ it has 1.9 less wt - and 1.9 wt can get you alot of armor.
I am lvl 40 and I use this and a journeymans walking stick. I used to have 2 fighting batons but with the added 5 dex this gives this is a good combination. It hits harder then a fighting baton but not as fast. Sense the jmans walking stick procs a enchanter slow spell I think. The high dex that I now have is why I use the 2 combo. I am atm looking to buy a cane of tranquil:) That is my next upgrade -So to anwser you question I think this is better than a fighting baton when paired with the right equiptment:) Also it only wieghs 0.1 stones and a fighting baton wieghs 2 stones which is getting up there
The walking stick procs Tashani, which isn't a slow spell, it lowers MR by twenty. Of very little use to a monk, but the casters in your party might be thanking you for using it if you don't have an enchanter. =P
I have a monk with two fighting batons, he is a twink and I find that the FB's are much better because of thier speed and when you get enchanter spells that speed you up, it's insaine, ie. speed of the shissar.. wow
i play on e'ci ...dont play a monk but i live in EC so i know how the bazaar goes...i'd say about 500-600pp...since everyone on e'ci is or has a twink.
