Simply...Incredible

Having played a Wizard up to and past the plane of time, and having quad kited most of my levels and many of my aa's, I can't see how any wizard wouldn't like to have this item. Even if you aren't a wizard who solo's a lot, or at all, how often do you end up snaring in a group? I know I end up snaring and i would love to free up a slot.

As for those who say "by the time you get to ssra/potime/etc. there's nothing worth quadding" um.... Halls of honor provides excellent experience for wizards. Quadding in the basements is wonderful, especially for the effort it takes to get there(level 62). You will get roughly 20% aa exp at 65(correct me if i'm wrong) per quad kite. Plus, any loot that drops...is youts, I see many ethereal parchments here and an occasional spectral. However Halls of Honor isnt the only place to quad. My preferred zone is Plane of Fire. In one quad kite i get roughly 60% aa exp. This is dynamite, and to this day I don't know a group that can match it on AA. To top off the insane experience, there are diamonds galore. Plus, the fact that you can say you have quad kited the Plane of Fire :)

I personally would LOVE to see this item in my ******** I often kite until snare wears off, and then resnare and go about my business. This would allow me to snare whenever I want to, for no mana. Also, in zones where you get ridiculous resists(like someone mentioned before in plane of valor) it is a huge mana saver. I am at the point I can snare mobs in pofire and still have enough mana to finish them off. But to give some perspective, I sometimes kite there without snare(sometimes easier believe it or not). When I do not snare, I can finish a quad with 25%-35% mana left over. When snaring, I am often nearing the end of my mana, having used harvest of druzzil(once, sometimes twice). Any good knowledgeable wizard would enjoy a clicky snare that can be cast from inventory. And besides that, how many do you know that have this!

Thanks for your time.

I have this on my alt weezard, and I must say I love it also useful in groups where snare is required for mobs that run, now I just nesd better gear in other slots:p

You are right, I'd also love to have this wepon at my disposal. Clicky snare from inventory is awsome + the fact that its mana free I know our snare is little mana anyways but. I can always use another free spell slot while soloing too. It's a wepon that is really great for any wizard.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 30 2003 at 11:25 AM, Rating: Unrated, (Expand Post) I hear that there is a ring with this effect as well. Allakhazam, being hardly the place for good infos doesnt have the ring listed under the section items with this effect:

Since I cannot find any other item with this effect on both Magelo and Lucy, I sincerely doubt it. I did however come across Ring of Immobilization, which has a clicky root (Immobilize). But what does the slot matter since you can use the Atol's clicky from your inventory anyway. :)

So, you mean all the MOBs I quad at level 65 are just a waste of my time? I should stop quadding in Plane of Fire and Halls of Honor?
inventory

Since you can click the item from inventory (I had it on my 65 wiz) I wonder if any class can click it from inventory?

RE: inventory
# Apr 18 2003 at 7:45 AM Rating: Default
It is prolly the same as SoTF and there by can't be used by other classes. I know alot of ppl wanted to have the SoTF, but they can't use it so this one can prolly only be used by wizards.

See: Effect: Atol's Spectral Shackles (Any Slot/Can Equip, Casting Time: 3.5)

Means that as long as you COULD equip it (Being a wizard of any race, any religion, and at or above level 50), the effect will work. Therefore, only Wiz will get the clicky snare to work.

To be brief I am a level 65 wizard with 50AA so you understand that this char is though somewhat not aged, quads in high end spots. Since my HOH/Xanamech/Tactics flags all broke because I got them when server flipped, I quad in Plane of Valor or Plane of Storms(uncrowded server). I prefer crystal golems since frogs are a 4/3 quad(at 70% aaxp = 2 quads) and golems are a 4/4 quad(50-54% ish aaxp = 2 quads). Also I should note that Storms quadding has been nerfed due to insane Fire resists on random frogs.

Here's where this dagger comes in. POV golems have obscene MR totals. Snare will land 4x often every 10th cast, sometimes as much as 20x in the duration of the quad. I don't have a rate for it but quite surely 10-15% is the chance to land fully. That makes snare drain quite a lot of mana to resnare through all of those resists to ensure that 4 have all been resnared through 2x sticks and 3x sticks. I estimate that a golem has between 24-28k HP. IIRC POFlame is 954 mana, these run fast, and the area clear of adds(unsnarables) from the doublerock to wall-lump#2 is very small and is crossed in perhaps 40 seconds by golems. I maybe do 15-20% of one's life(fire resists are high but not insane) before I must resnare. Atol's mana cost is 125 at an 18% mana reduction for 103 mana per. Often it'll 4x resist and I need to be sure that the whole thing has duration. Usually I wait top the 36 to-break and try to resnare till it looks good or snare should have broken and take the old break period or set a new one if it sticks.

How much recasting is this? About 5 times per. On average youre looking at 5 periods of snare for perhaps an average of twenty-five needed snares, or 2500 mana. Now, I can do a quad in 14 minutes. That's not the time needed to nuke, but the time medding and nuking. Let's spread an average of 2500 mana over 14 minutes. What does that leave us with? 9 extra points of mana per tick. NINE. Koadic robe is 5- this almost doubles its usefulness. Let's take my friend wizard with the same FT/mana(close) and I can finish with 40% more mana than he does. With 5k mana pool that's 2000 mana. Add in Allegiant familiar and VOQ's modifiers and my prediction that I made is about true. I didn't give a shot at HOH yet but when I get my flags back(GMs cannot re add flags) I'll give it a shot.

This dagger has improved- lots.

Well, your wrong :P

AE groups are few and far between, most exp still comes from quadding.

Sounds like its great when you're quad kiting and out of mana to shackle. This baby will also save mana when recasting on already snared mobs that are already grouped by you.

The reason they make weapons like this for casters is because casters are capped at 110 weapon skill, and will cause no balance issues when they melee with something like this.

Reason they don't make an item like this for a rogue is the same reason they don't put the backstab ability on a dagger for casters.

Most items that are clickable have effects that the class can already produce. Very rare do you see an item that has an ability from another class. There are a few, but they are sort of balanced.

If it has a casting time beside the effect, then it is most definitely a RIGHT-CLICK item. This is fact. An item with a proc will have (COMBAT) beside it as opposed to a casting time.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 21 2002 at 11:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It seems like no matter what new item that is found can have the potential to be the most deadly weapon/armor that we can get.

nifty toy, but that's it
# Jun 20 2002 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
This item is handy, but you'll find that you bag it most of the time and when you are solo grinding, you swap it out ALOT.

The effect is right clicked and takes 4 seconds to cast, longer than if you cast the regular version, so if you're trying to snare mobs that run FAST, spend the mana instead of using this baby.

This is great for snaring slow mobs or for resnaring mobs that have too many farkin hitpoints so they take forever to drop. Saves you the 125 mana per cast, which on high hp mobs that suck all your mana for nukes can be a handy thing indeed.

I haven't found it to be the deal saver, though. Merely a convenience.

Besides, when I'm bored, I can close to impress my friends and scare the mobs with my UBER WIZ MELEE skillz!

says range item too, surely the 15int and 50 mana is handy to have in the range slot and thats not taking into account the effect. pretty nice item i would say

# Jun 21 2002 at 9:10 AM Rating: Decent
i dont know for certain but to get this kind of equipment from ssra you probably have to be in guild where you can more easily get better range items. Only a guess though as i havnt been to Ssra myself personnaly yet.
RE: nifty toy, but that's it
# Jun 21 2002 at 2:13 AM Rating: Default
You don't need to swap it out, just free up an iventory slot and put it there. It doesn't say "Must Equip", so it's usable from inventory.
Why?
# Jun 20 2002 at 6:42 PM Rating: Default
Why? why this weapon is only for wiz? I would love to have that for my rogue =) 21-23 thats a real uber weapon.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 20 2002 at 7:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) have you ever seen a rogue piercer with a damage over 15? I haven't and I've been looking. Why haven't you seen a rogue piercer over 15? Because VI has imposed this limit as a ballancer for the other classes. Nobody cares if a wizard gets a 100/20 melee weapon. Why? Wizards melee like rogues cast. Poorly at best even with the best equipment and it looks like their just faking it. Any rogue that could would take a 16/50 they could BS with and carry it around JUST so they could BS with it (unless they could get something with higer damage or a better ratio). One point of damage makes a big diffrence.
RE: Why?
# Jun 21 2002 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
No offense, but you're wrong. There's 3 16 damage piercers and one that's 17-18 (depending on elemental damage check, I believe). You can't have been looking hard if you don't check out guild sites like FoH, Afterlife, Triton, Magister, etc. Allakhazam's isn't exactly for top end info.
RE: Why?
# Jun 20 2002 at 10:36 PM Rating: Default
Bloodbath / Kalshazar / That other one I can't think of...

There are a few 16+ damage piercers... Also an 18 damage piercer in Vex Thal ;)

I'd just have to say that I *hope* it's right click, as Atol's is an AE snare that would definitely snag the wielder if it proc'ed in combat. My wizard has done that to herself with Bonds of Force enough to know how deadly such a mistake can be. ^-^

I don't know for sure, but I would also say it's a clicker, if it was a proc it would have (combat) next to it rather than a casting time =)
