Every time I try to pick up the coal, it vanishes. It's not in my bags. I used the Find feature. It isn't there. It just vanishes. Not sure where to go from here.

Mystery solved. If you have picked up an item previously, it won't let you pick it up again. I had done this quest years ago but forgot. My achievement was blank. After speaking to Lebounde ab Dolmen, it filled in all the blanks in my achievement.
