..... And you wonder why you have a score of "Awful" with an attitude like that.

You obviously know nothing about it either, from what I read that you've posted.

these are important yes, but strength raises atk, and at higher levels id rather have atk over ac/hp for a monk. monks arent suppose to tank, though at like 20 they can, on raids, nope, just do damage. and what helps do damage? ac? no. hp? no. str? yeah. dex? well if you have a nice proc weapon sure, other than that, probably strength is better.

if youre twinking a monk out, go for lots of HP and AC, and pick up some PSUs or better, cured silk or Wu's is good, then some HP/AC items. either adam ring or golden fire wedding rings are good and not too expensive, and add good HP. i got STR earrings for my monk alt, but thats because i couldnt find any HP gear.

Umm...

Don't mean this as a flame, but anyone who says getting the 8th shawl is 'such an easy quest', has not done it themselves I would gather. Maybe you are meaning only this last fight, but that has nothing to do with how difficult this quest is. This quest is quite an undertaking, and if you have gotten tailoring and smithing to 162 and 190 respectively, you will know what I mean. And that is only a fraction of the work required. It is a bit easier these days with the bazaar, and how you can buy the tradeskill items there, and cut the time down substantially, but it is still a serious hit to the pocketbook as well. There is no way you can call this an easy quest. I am up to the 8th shawl, and have been working on it since lvl 35... It has been the most time-consuming frustrating thing I have ever done in EQ by far!! hehe.

The guild I'm in has only a couple of people with the 8th shawl, and they are very proud of it, whereas we farm NToV and the rest of the Velious/Luclin loot circuit, and those drops are common in the guild, and only require raid participation to aquire.... And these places are raided on a daily basis, whereas 8th shawl quest events are a rarity. Items like these would never go to twinks, I guarantee that. There are plenty of people who could use them.

Just making sure people are not misled here.

Well, honestly, I'd have to disagree with you. I have my seventh shawl, and am currently camping the geonids for the gems I need to finish my armor for the 8th. So far I have soloed the majority of the quests, and the items I couldn't solo, I lucked upon while in zones for other reasons (swordfish tooth, for example).

My guild should EASILY be able to finish the 8th shawl battle (we have about 25 chars between 55 and 65). However, with our current gear, we'd probably wipe hard in ToV.

Really depends on your current situation, which seems harder. For smaller guilds, the Prayer shawls are a godsend, for larger ones, they may be an unbearable timesink.

Oh, and of course it helps that I already GMed smithing, and have 200 or close in all the others, not for the shawl, but because I like doing tradeskills.

Maybe it's due to the fact that I HATE tradeskills -- a monotonous task and click-fest -- but I would rather raid the planes than do the shawl quest again... whoever says the shawl quest is easy is 1> amiable with Coldain and 2> someone who doesn't mind large time-sinks like hunting spider silks or making heady koalas... heck baking was as pain too. This quest was my ONLY reason for wasting my time with tradeskills. So, whoever says this quest is easy is either 1> rich (and bought all the components) or 2> crazy and deluding themselves or 3> enjoys tradeskills and camping/farming or 4> lying... take yer pick.

Well, I finished the 8th shawl last night. Battles weren't at all hard, with 16 people present, at average level of 61.

Yes, if you hate tradeskills, this quest isn't for you.

Now regarding the specific comments :

1> amiable with Coldain

ally actually

and 2> someone who doesn't mind large time-sinks like hunting spider silks or making heady koalas... heck baking was as pain too.

I like tradeskills, and generally use alts to do farming so I can level and collect stuff at the same time.

Yes to tradeskills, no to farming

Nope.

The quest may be difficult, but the final battle is cake. Just mem blur the General and keep him agroed on someone who kites him around while you kill the mobs. Seriously a piece of cake encounter. We did it with about 20 assorted 45+ people. The enchanter that mem blurred the general wasn't even high enough level to use the wolf claws she won on the raid. The tradeskills portion of this quest is the only hard part.

Do you folks realize how difficult it is to even get TO this quest?

Buds, you'd all have a better chance at levelling to 55 and joinning ToV raids than actually EARNNING this item. (Buy it at your leisure, but, then again, the 8th Shawl quest isn't done often enough to supply everyone that wants these items)

A) Peeps that do this quest aren't just going to random out the stuff that drops. Shawl quests 1 through 8 all require the help and support of other players, and the ones who provided consistent helpe will get these drops.

B) Nobody is going to give one of these items to someone who will put it on an alt.

C) The side items of the 8th Shawl quest that you see being sold originated from people who upgraded their gear after they were awarded these items.

D) Peeps under level 40 should seriously STOP posting up on 50+ items. Why? You never add ANYTHING.

Peace,
Ellon

Randoming and giving to alts....

Well that is about the only thing most of these 8th shawl drops have gone for recently in my guild. Kind of a way for the quester to say "thanks" to the 8-11 people that helped them out.

Unless they were sold for cash.

It seems that you like to make a lot of broad (and unsupportable) generalizations.

A) Shawl quests 1 through 4 can be done solo, easily.

B) If even one person would give one to an alt, you're proven wrong. Don't proclaim absolutes without being able to support it.

C) Maybe the items are being sold by people who just want to make some cash and aren't concerned with upgrading anything.

D) That's just a dumb thing to say. Hitting level 40 doesn't suddenly give a person new insights into anything, and you don't need to be 40+ to be able to discuss 50+ items. Again, you make a generalization that they "never add ANYTHING," though, in light of my previous points, I'd not-so-humbly submit that you (and point out that your post itself) haven't added anything. All you did was whine.

"A) Shawl quests 1 through 4 can be done solo, easily" this statment is B.S. the word "Easily" and "Shawl quests" do not belong in the same sentince. Am i mistaken or is Worm Bile drops of the first 4? =p

However, if you happen to be a cleric or other class that has a difficult time soloing, try getting nodrop snow griffon eggs (8) for the third. Any melees out there on Xev wanna help a poor, sweet cleric out?

I have 7th shawl and I never needed help except in siren's grotto for the swordfish tooth, but even then I was there for exp. Kromrif blood was given to me, the siren hairs I soloed, the runed seashell I bought. Now when I'm ready to do this I'm going to take a raid force that is guaranteed to net me my 8th shawl. Which sucks because the dagger/claw thing I really like:)

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 26 2002 at 6:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is clearly a shaman/druid/int caster item primarily anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or greedy. Every melee class and/or plate class has equivalent or better items more easily available.

ok, you are a tard. Lets break the facts down... 40 PURE hit points... hmmmm... lets break down EXACTLY how many necklaces have that many hp and are droppable. I'll give you a hint: ONLY ONE (that isnt absurdly rare and never seen for sale), and thats that velium necklace with 65 hp/mana and 0 supplimentary stats. Oops, pardon me for wanting this more, and to break it down further, lets look at the +2% modifier to dodge... My dodge skill is 175 (Capped for a warrior, but not capped for skill enhancers), so I gain a full 3 1/2 skill points in dodge... ANYTHING that helps with melee damage mitigation is priceless. I think I've made my point.

I have to agree with MartinMax here, i bought one for 2k at the Bazaar (a steal i think). There is not many better tradeables for clerics out there, and they run for a lot more than 2k.

Dropped as part of the 8th Coldain Shawl quest.

pretty much says it all eh?

Read through the quest and you will find out where and when it drops during the quest also.

If you find someone doing their 8th you might get this awarded to you if you help them out.

Otherwise i'd think you'd be hard pressed to find one on the market considering there aint that many people doing the 8th shawl on any given server each day.

It drops off of one of the giants' tracking wolves, hence the name.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 23 2002 at 7:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) other than being a part of hte 8th coldain shawl quest, the stuff on it says "caster" to me; 40 mana and 5 int/wis is really good for a younger caster...can't really say anything about how it'd be for a high end caster as my only caster is levle 14 ;)

"and before anyone says it, this is NOT a monk item..."

Then you should just not talk. Frankly this is quite the all/all item it should be. Its good for all classes, and as a monk, I'd use it over my Spider Fur Collar.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 22 2002 at 9:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) THIS IS BY FAR THE DEFACTO MONK ITEM IN ALL OF EVERQUEST!!!!!
RE: caster item
# May 24 2002 at 5:01 AM Rating: Default
I hope you don't take this from a guild caster to replace your spider fur collar. Minus 7str for plus 40 hp isn't a real great trade off considering the other stats...

Plus this is 1.0 weight while the spider fur collar is 0.0...

A monk might get this...but he'd sell it to buy a spider fur collar and something else...
RE: caster item

2% Dodge...
Hit points
Both are reason to pick this over Spider Fur Collar as a Monk.
Yes the 1 wt is a bit high, but unless your Tstaffing you should be able to keep you wt under the cap. This is mainly true if your main Tanking alot, Yes Monks can main tank mobs that hit up to about 220 without a slow, 300 if slowable. That said, This would be better suited for a beastlord/ranger/shadowknight/Paladin, who would be able to use the Dodge/(wis/int)/hp/mana.

Someone dont know squat about monks, being a caster he probably read on eqcasters the monk faq that says monks should try and mx str over all else, LMAO

Wish i could find one of these.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 27 2002 at 1:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First of all, Spider Fur Collar is 3.0 wt. Says 0.0 on Allakhazam but is really 3. Second of all, yes, 40hp is better than 7 str. I would take this over Dragon Tooth Choker for my monk but keep the choker around for resists.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 04 2002 at 4:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a Spider Fur Collar on my Monk and I know for a fact it is weight 0.0
