Looks like the new Jaggedpine zone has some items for Karana worshiping Rangers. I am a Tunare boy myself, but am glad to see things being evened out.

Till i read this thread I was nto aware that Vah Shir had to be agnostic..... kind of difficult to have no set belief about the existence/non-existence of Gods when you can zap into any Planar zone and see them right beofre your own eyes *ginr*.

It's a bit like Granny Weatherwax in the Terry Pratchett books : "Just because the Gods exist, that aint no reason to go 'round believing in them !"

Doesn't agnostic just mean that you won't choose one god to worship? I thought you were an atheist (sp?) if you didn't believe in any gods...
RE: Karana Rangers etc
# Sep 16 2002 at 12:15 AM Rating: Default
Atheist is not believing there is any form of "god"

Agnostic merely means you not going to follow one, but also doesn't say you have to verify they are there :)

Actually, agnostics believe that mere mortals cannot hope to understand the divine and therefore profess no faith. Atheistists on the other hand, believe in nothing divine and profess against any and all faith. The position of the atheists would not make sense in Everquest, given the powers of priest classes and hybrids come from a deity. Why are we talking about this here?

Well, I'm a WE Ranger on AB with 250 skill (255 with a Geerlok) and I made 2 of these today for 3 attempts - not too shabby. Guildy I made the one for LOVES it - and had a lot of enquiries in a short time from folks who saw him with it - so there is a real market there - and with few fletchers at 250, or so it seems, this could be a good earner for me :)
RE: Finally we get to make a decent item for use and trade..
# Nov 03 2002 at 7:09 PM Rating: Decent
I know thisa is a fairly pointless thing to post about but , Dont Geerloks provide a 5% increase to you current Tradeskill level ? ie +5points at 100skill. Therefore wouldnt a Geerlok make your adjusted skill level 262.5 if your actual skill is max'd at 250?
Just a thought.
cultural bows
# Jul 10 2002 at 3:44 PM Rating: Default
Is it just me or are rangers getting the shaft again. I would think that VI would set it up so that a class based on doing damage thru archery would have decent equipment at the same levels that the other melees can attain it. Fletching is an expensive trade skill and bows with good stats and D/D ratios all drop in high level zones. Or maybe its just me that sucks. Archery is 210, Fletching is 195 (i stopped once i got a Tolans Bracer). Anyway heres my new ranger creed. " I suck , I know I suck and I embrace and cherish the fact. Knowing that I suck and that the class I choose to play has been much maligned and hamstrung, enables me to overcome these limitations, and to suck less. "

IIRC, doesn't "<god> only" mean only races who worship that deity can equip? According to <a href="http://pub126.ezboard.com/feqtraderscornerfletching.showMessage?topicID=368.topic">this</a> page this is a Tunare only object, so it's *definitely* not equipable by all races (not that my DE rogue is crying about that, or anything)

If you have not already found one, I will help. My Tunare-following Wood Elf Ranger (Tanuan) does not yet have the skill, but my chanter (Schill) and SK (Cshill) are both already already master fletchers and I know it's not that hard to skill up, just expensive.

A couple k would get my skill up to 202. A geerok fletching device would modify that up to 212. If you were then to provide the materials for 3 attempts, I think we could get you one of these amazing bows. Send me a tell in-game or any email through here.

This bow has a trivial WELL above 250, even with a skill of 250 AND a Geerlok device, the sucess rate is around 50/50. So don't count your chickens on having one sucess in three with a skill of 202(212). The 6 blue diamonds required for 3 attempts alone are enough to just pay someone else to do the combine. Not to mention sitting and foraging on the Plane of Growth for hours to get the branches, or sitting and foraging oak bark (or finding it as a ground spawn in Butcherblock). Then you have all of the "cheaper" brewing etc combines to think of.

Not that I mean to discourage you from trying to make this, but it almost makes more sense to just pay a grandmaster to do the final combine, there is just too much to lose to risk the attempt when you are that far away from the trivial (which even at 250 with geerlok you can't hit).

It's time for all of those grandmaster fletchers to come out of the woodwork(pardon the pun) and have an honest to goodness reason to have a skill of 250 in fletching. Before the new bows came out, the most a fletcher at that skill could hope for is to make a bow or two for friends, and sell a few to those he could. Most people that buy bows buy one, because you only need one, and then fletch their own arrows. Not a very profitable market, as the people that bought your bow would then turn around and sell it back on the open market as soon as they got a higher end bow with stats and/or better ratio.(Yes, karana rangers got the shaft again.)

Now all of those fletchers that went the extra mile to get their fletching to 250 have a bow they can be proud of. Nice ratio, with some WONDERFUL stats. For a ranger this is just amazing. No longer will you be forced to carry a range item in your bag of tricks to throw in when you arn't using your bow. Five points to 4 major stats (including DEX YAY!), TEN points to 3 major resists, FIFTY hp and mana...the only other thing I could ask for is some AC, but that would REALLY be pushing things (well you do get 5 AGI). Heck for the stats alone this is wonderful, it's almost a freebee that you can actually shoot arrows with it (and how about that 250 range!).

Grats to all those fletchers out there rolling in the money from making/selling these, you earned it big time. Fletching was another one of those "low level" tradeskills that made items like banded armor or fine plate, that were ok for lower end players, but were quickly replaced as levels went on. Not to mention the fact that not a ton of characters can use bows. This bow for stats alone will remain with most/all players that get it, even if you get something that plinks arrows better.

The road to make or have this bow made is a long one, but I think in this case the end justifies the means, which isn't often the case.

I cannot wait to use Trueshot with it... believe me rangers you will be thanking yourself many seasons from now investing in this :)

No way you crit'd for 781dmg with BFT at 216 skill and with the title of Baron.

If you did, it's a bug. 30dmg bow with 11dmg arrows max non Trueshot crit is 525dmg. Max non trueshot non crit is 304dmg. And this is with Archery Mastery 1. Which would mean you'd be a Veteran. Max TS crit is just a tad over 1000dmg with Archery Mastery 1.

With no AM, max regular hit with no Trueshot discipline is 234dmg.

Either your sig is fubar, or your numbers are. Which is it?

Actually, according to the fletching boards on eqtraders.com, 6 for 13 is pretty accurate, about a 50 percent failure rate has been reported with a skill of 250 and a Geerlok. (Also reported from a grandmaster fletcher making these that I spoke to.)

Best bows for non-treehuggers are the Velium bow series that drop in DN. I have a Double Recurve Velium bow (hehe for sale) that is 30/37 distance 130 vs the 30/38 distance 250 of BFT. That alone would is worth upgrading to BFT for us treehugers...

Aloha and well met --

/whine on

I am slightly saddened by the creation of yet another tunare faith based item, without an apparant match in Karana faith based items. I am adding this t the list of lovely items that my god will not allow me to equip.

/whine off -- /ramble on

1. Is there a comperable crafted bow for the Karana Faith based Rangers (or other classes/faiths for that matter) that we have yet to stumble on?

2. If there are no comperable Faith based creations items for my god, I feel my god has err slightly forsaken me. Would there be a possiblity that someday I might go forth, conduct a "vision-quest" and do a one time change of religion.

/ramble off

Not sure if this post belongs here, but have not seen a comperable thread in the discussion pages recently about Faith based items.

RE: Karana Faith Items

I fully concur with you Sam... These new faith based items are incredible, but sadly Karana followers and yet once again left with nothing. I play 3 Karana following characters and would glady go on your "vision-quest" to change deities.
I know people will say wait for PoP to come out for Karana based items, but honestly I am sick of waiting.

This is one item that has made me see that the game is seriously in need of balancing for Karana followers. There are always other options for us that chose to follow the the Rainkeeper, but it makes me sad to see that other Deities bless their followers with incredible items such as this, while we are left wanting...

Im sure once PoP comes out, there will be similar god-based quests just like the ones found in PoG. This being said, the way the high end game is going with 2 handers delay over damage, im hoping the PoG items get upgraded as well. Im also hoping for a way to raise faction in other planes if you worship these gods. Example: I kill in PoG, my faction goes down there but raises in PoH, and vice versa. As a High elf paladin of tunare I can go hail my god, but I know if im a DE Shadowknight, Id want to go hail innoruk and get similar quests from the plane. Sure the new planes will be awesome, but plesae upgrade the current ones.(This could be fit in story line wise as Tunare has taken the precautions of protecting her plane from the events of recent planes opening..blah blah blah)

I also have this same complaint. I haven't done a specific search for karana useable only items but I don't think I have ever happened upon a single one on this site or any other. And that my friend is pure BS. I remember that even before these blesed Fay items came out there were other items that I woulda loved to have had but they were Tunare only. So much for balanceing the frickin game. Although with any luck as they revamp the newb zones and such maybe we will get lucky and get something like this. The only kind thing I have to say to verant about this item is that I'm glad they are finaly making really nice Tradeskill items.

Not to mention that VI has appearently said that Half-elves do not have a culture of their own and will not have any cutural skills. That's just wrong!
RE: Karana Faith Items
# May 23 2002 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
I agree that there should be balance in euipment. If items are being made that are useable by worshippers of a specific religion then all worshippers should be able to use. As far as culteral items go, half elves in literature arean abomination and not accepted by either elves or by humans (although they are tolerated by humans). Because of this they have no culture of their own.
RE: Karana Faith Items
# Jun 12 2002 at 9:07 PM Rating: Decent
What's with the 'Half-Elf's don't have a culture / are an abomination " stuff ?

Like so much of modern fantasy we have J.R.R. Tolkien to thank for the Half-Elf. Those of you who think of Half-Elves are cultural mis-fits might spare a moment to remember that ELROND from Lord of the Rings is, in fact ELROND HALF-ELVEN. He's a Prince of the Elves, leader of the resistance against Mordor and stalwart defender of all things from the Elvish culture.

Now your basic Dark Elf ( or Drow to go back to the old D&D terms ) - THERE's a misfit ! Evil stinky beasts they are.

This isn't LOTR. They can do whatever they want in THEIR game. If you look at it logicly, why WOULD half elves have their own culture? They should be rare at best, and they are the blend of two other cultures, a half-breed if you will, not of either race entirely. If there was a half elf city culture, wouldn't they breed until they were no longer hlf elves, but some 60/40, 70/30, 90/10? Bah what a mess. If it makes you feel better, look at them like donkeys. Horses and mules can breed, producing a donkey. Donkeys are sterile from birth, and cannot reproduce on their own. Thus, there is never any "donkey" breeding. (I may have confused donkey with mule, but you see what I mean.)

not to sture things up...but in Fanticy history, Half elves where not looked upon very highly...also they are a resalt of human and elf parents. This makes them resonably with out a true culture. Though, I feel they should be able to use the culture they grow up in. I also feel there should be a balance between the equipment. Its not approprate to have only Tunar based weapons made by wood elves. The humans should make a Karana faithed weapon also.

Vah'shirr may not have the Fungi tunic, but they have the Fungal Tunic, which has the effect of Fungal Regrowth. That effect also stacks with the spell Regrowth *AND* another regen spell (which escapes me at the time, but it's a right-click effect on a weapon). That equals a LOT of hp regen.
