2004 and is it still doable
# Sep 15 2004 at 5:56 AM Rating: Decent
Hi

I am learning to two box with a Bertox Gnome Warrior and Cleric Pairing.

I am having great fun starting the game again on a new server (MR) with no twinkage. And am getting more into the Quests and Roleplay side of the game.

I just had a quick look the other night and could not find the female Rat. Although what concerns me more is the lack of posts post 2002 regardig this.

So if anyone has seen this creature recently could they let me know.

Thanks

Mihtee Lvl 6 Bertox Gnome Warrior

As of July 1, 2005, I just completed this quest. The only difficult-to-locate mob for me was the brittle skeleton. As of right now, female rats are practically everywhere out near the windmills.

I just finished the bottle part of it on MR-the Female Rat was right behind the windmills. When I gave her the bottle, she respawned as a Diseased Female Rat-yellow to a level 5- and she and a cat add smoked me.

That "trick"

All the chanter has to do is just dispell the necro/shad and there ya go, you can mez/enthrall
/entrance or whatever you want
RE: That

Wrong.

You would have to use the Cure Disease line to remove this.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 04 2002 at 1:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok folks I am amazed that everyone posting is not from a PvP server! All you carebear players can move on cause you wont care. However; Gnomish Clerics playing on the mighty ZEK's can feel safe from thoes pesky chanters and that nasty Mesmerise spell. Cast upon yourself will give you a '60 tick' invunerability. A long known trick used by shadowknights and thoes necros not using a hp/mana spell.

Like the subject says. As an SK, disease cloud is one of the bread and butter spells that I use to hold aggro OFF of the healers. It works much better than the Taunt skill in alot of cases. While I suppose that there is a time and a place for anything and everything, I just can't think of a good time for the healer to be casting Disease Cloud. Ever. It is always cool to have items with novel effects like this one, it's just not cool to actually use them. Unless you want to die.

Hehe, well i used this up to lvl 30 you can chain cast this and build up some nice dmg and yea if you over do it you get agro, but you learn your limits and use it wisely. Also mobs that run when hurt make a great target because they only run so far but stay in range for this item.

good for pulling lots of spiders for silk too. pull pull pull pull aoe loot loot loot loot.

Its a fun role play item too, when I play my wicked cleric girl i'll often cast this on myself as a blessing (being bertox follower and all). Nothing more in character than a well diseased Bertox worshiping cleric. Plus the green shower effect is cute.

To consider this a bad item you have to be fearfull, close minded, stats blinded, and dull.

Did you even read the title and content of my message? I didn't say it was a bad item, I said it was a bad IDEA. I went on further to express that the item itself is cool, but using it in most every case in a group ISN'T cool, since dead clerics can't heal tanks very well.

I also said that I have personal liking for unique "toy" items like this and most other cleric neck items like it. So no, I'm not fearful, close-minded, stats-blinded or dull. Additionally, there was a definite under-tone of sarcasm to the whole post, which was mostly just a joke post meant to make people (especially newbies) think a bit. If you didn't catch it, YOU may be the dull one. Sorry.

BTW, Disease Cloud now pretty much sucks as an aggro tool. When they made changes slow spells awhile back, they tinkered around with how disease based effects aggro mobs. End result? Disease Cloud is no longer the bread and butter taunting spell it once was. We SKs of the world cringed, but life goes on. But it also means that it is safer to use now for people besides SKs, but it's still not a real good idea. Not for the faint of heart at least. Anyway, have fun you evil Clerics.

Also BTW, using it as a Bertox Blessing is a really neat idea. Good job!

sorry buddy, but they took the disease aggro away from slow spells... as slow drew enough attention as it was... disease cloud is STILL an incredible taunt, and not to mention enchanters can't mezz you if you cast it upon yourself

Sorry friend, but I guess you didn't pay attention. Disease Cloud WAS nerfed. Hell, Absor even made a post about it on the SK boards when they went NUTS about it. It just doesn't draw aggro like it used to. Hence the addition of the aggro nukes and Voice line.

I have a lvl 42 cleric.

Senario:
Cleric is OOM, Tank is at less then a bubble, mob is at a sliver of life. Tank is gonna die.

Answer:
Cleric gets agro and takes the dmg for 5 seconds while the tank kills it.

That is just first one to pop to mind. I could use it when soloing, when being psuedo tank in group (I always get the worst class combo group mates.), When it jumps off on the enchanter (can you say mana sink) and she/he is dying to fast. pick one.

Small myth:
Cleric's can't take any dmg.

Truth:
Yes we can.

Finally

Finally got this Unholy Symbol of Bertoxxulous for my level six human priest of Bertoxxulous. The quest itself is very hard to do, and impossible without a druid and maybe even a ranger. Needed the ranger to track down the NPC that you need to get the Sprig of Wormwood from; she was'nt North and West of the mill, more like North and East, near the minotaur guards. You also need a druid or an enchanter to charm the female rat so you can give her the vial of infectious fluids or whatever it's called that Evah Xokez gives you back at the Dark Reflection. As for the Brittle Skeletons, they are at least yellow to my level six twink and hit hard, and drop the Diseased Bone Marrow maybe one in eight times; must've killed at least twenty brittle skeletons yesterday before I got both of them.

But despite how hard the quest is, the reward when you're in a group and cast your Disease Cloud spell on a mob and your party gets the message that your Symbol of Bertoxxulous Symbol begins to glow is all the reward I need. Thanks Verant, and don't forget to give us Priests of Bertoxxulous a Disciple and Warden symbol further down the road.

I am a human Cleric...what does the Bertoxxulous mean? Do i have to have that as my religion or i can't use it?

Whenever an item has the name of a god following the item's special properties (i.e. magic, no drop, no rent, lore.) then anyone wishing to wear the item must worship that god. So a gnome cleric of brell is just as unable to use the item as a gnome SK of bertox.

Try the evil cleric, right next to the necro trainer in Ak'Anon.

I would think that an evil gnome could get cleric spells from either freeport or qeynos underground, and also train at those places.

ABSOLUTELY right! I was asked this question a few months ago, and have been looking around ever since. I'm a Gnomish Necromancer, and travel back to Ak'Anon pretty frequently. I've covered every inch of our fair city several times, and have NEVER met an Evil Cleric vendor. Oh, there's Nec spell vendors, and guildmasters of all professions, but NO place to get your spells as a Bertox cleric. Please do call this to Absor's attention, if you have stuck with your character.

Well, there is the option of getting someone trust worthy to buy them from the normal cleric spell guy.....Of course, finding a trustworthy evil cleric might be more tricky than it sounds. For lowbie gear, this is pretty cool though.

# May 08 2001 at 12:02 PM Rating: Default
First of all of course the GM's know :)
And second well I'm not a bertoxx cleric, but I do have a bertoxx gnome necro and he buys his spells in the necro guild hidden in the mine completely in the back of the city. In that same mine is a cleric trainer too for sure and some merchants selling cleric spells, so I'd say you have to be there. Look it up on the map on www.eqatlas.com or in your eq manual.

Actually, even full GMs probably DON'T know, but they can find out. Of course, even if they did go to the trouble of finding out, they wouldn't tell you because it is against policy.

I will guarantee you that Guides (who are volunteers) most definitely do NOT know -- they are mere players and as such, they only know what they have learned by playing or looking at fan sites like this one.

Finally, I believe that there is an evil cleric vendor mixed in with the necro spell vendors, so you might try there. If this is not where they are, then I would say no such service is available in Ak'anon, and it might be advisable to notify the developers (via Absor, i guess).
Proc Question
# Dec 18 2000 at 12:17 AM Rating: Default
Must it be worn for the proc to work? I'm going to do it anyways, being a Gnome Shadow Knight and all, but that would make it all the cooler :)

Just curious, but if you are a SK, why bother doing this quest since the item is only useable by clerics
Must be worn-Triggered.

This, like all 'Initiate Symbol'-type items, must be worn & right clicked to take effect. Also they have a longer 'casting time' than the player-cast version of the spell, but won't cost you mana. =) Keep in mind, however, that this is STILL considered 'player casting' and thus will break invis & Scale of Wolf. =(
