This has a required level of 51 and is a pretty strong lightsource.

-10%
# Feb 07 2004 at 4:36 PM Rating: Good
This has a -10% lowered chance to proc under the default proc rate of weapons (according to unknown070 value).
1hs again...
# Nov 01 2003 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
its pretty cool, only 1hs =p takes off monks...
Price comparison
# Sep 22 2003 at 9:07 AM Rating: Decent
As of this week (we all know how quickly prices change) this weapon is selling on average for 5kpp on Morell-Thule. =) Big thanks to Kankuk for picking one up for my Warrior.. Luv it!
re: which is better?

gotta take a moment here to agree w/ takata in response to Newbnomore's suggestion...

A ranger's fastest weap. should go in their main hand. In the case of having this and a frosty, use the frosty in the mainhand, as it has the better dmg/dly ratio.

I know some ppl would suggest that you want the snowchipper to proc more often (true if you are the main tank, which as a rng, you prolly aren't lol) because it procs for more dmg.

However, the frosty proc also has a AC debuff component, which increases the effectiveness of BOTH your weapons. Ideally you want this to proc more often.

In the long run though, the truth is, you want to give this chipper to a warrior friend as it frankly, is not a great rng weapon overall.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 08 2004 at 3:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) er proc doesn't deal more dmg, it just will proc more often in mainhand, because the check for weapon to proc is going off more per swing rather then in offhand (which is significantly lower)....
What is the deal?

The spiked Vel mallet has the SAME stats and is better because it only weighs 1 but for some reason I see this item is almost twice as much as a mallet. I don't get it.
RE: What is the deal?
# Jun 25 2003 at 10:59 AM Rating: Default
Well, its not exactly the same. I got the mallet because id rather get most of the stats of the snowchipper for 3k then get AC5 and the parry+3% for 6k. Thats the only difference but the Mallet is more of the monk version on the snowchipper it seems. But hey, still pretty kickass on my warrior, Im happy with it=)Alouth the block+3% doesnt do anything for me=(
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 08 2004 at 3:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) who needs block anyways mwhaha
Which is better?
# Mar 23 2003 at 5:06 AM Rating: Decent
Trying to decide which is better to use in the primary, Frostbringer or Snowchipper the Ratio is better on frostbringer I know, but the stats are better on snowchipper. I am not worried about taunting, agro, interested in damage output for solo ability. Any advice from other Rangers / Melee classes would be helpful.

Thanks
RE: Which is better?
# Mar 29 2003 at 3:24 PM Rating: Good
Use Snowchipper main, Frostbringer offhand. That will give you the best damage output.
what to do ?
# Mar 05 2003 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
im a 54 level warr , and i use an edge of the nightwalker in main hand and am thinking of geting one of these for secondary , my str is at 255 and dex is 168 , and im maxed out in 1hs , you think this combow will work to keep agro ? If you get this snowchipper put it in primary and wield your edge of nightwalker in offhand, remember, fastest weapons go in primary.

I've always wondered, If fastest weapons go in main hand, why is the Ranger Epics reversed? Swiftwind has lower delay by far, yet is offhand only. You think maybe Verant messed up?
RE: what to do ?
# May 22 2003 at 11:30 PM Rating: Decent
Well, as many things in the past, Verant decided to change things. It used to be Fastest weapon in offhand was the best use of damage output. SoE decided to confuse everyone again ;)
Hm?

How is this item obtained OTHER then saying "8th shawl quest" or "buy it in the bazaar"? Does it drop off a particular mob during the fight? I know the Avatar of Below spawns and is holding it. Can anyone fill me in?
Location of drop
# Feb 06 2003 at 2:03 AM Rating: Decent
I really do believe this item should read that it drops in Iceclad, not in Thurgadin. All the fighting for the 8th shawl quest begins and ends in Iceclad, which is where I saw it drop tonight.
Proc
# Jan 19 2003 at 2:49 AM Rating: Decent
Proc Is 120 DD cold based.. But man this thing seems like it never procs.. then again it may be my less than UBER Ogre Dex of 120 HAA! Anyway dont pay more that 9K on Saryn prices are droppin like Flies.

You can see!
# Jan 11 2003 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
I wound up buying this in the bazaar and all the good things said about it are true BUT ...it also does a great thing for the blind !!! (Humans and barb warriors etc). I guess it is giving infra-vision, no click or other action needed. My cleric who fights with my Barb warrior ( I have 3 accounts so fight my terrible trio together) has a mask that clicks ultra-vision and it still lightens the warrior up a bit, but the warrior is still brighter with the SnowChipper then I think he would be with Serpent sight. What a great surprise this unlisted and unknown bonus was!

Even with ultravision, a light source will make things better. I'm a DE and I still carry a GLS around in a primary inventory slot to lighten things up. This may be the effect you are noticing, simply that this item functions as a light source.
Proc?
# Nov 05 2002 at 12:42 PM Rating: Default
I'm assuming that since this is recommended Level 51, it start to proc at 51? Anyone know for sure?
RE: Proc?
# Nov 20 2002 at 5:53 AM Rating: Default
Yep

Dual-wielding this and a Spiked Velium Mallet - nice combo and looks cool too :)

Verant needs to sort out the labelling on some of these items - sometimes Recommended actually means Required...
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 11 2002 at 5:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Very nice weapon indeed. Bought it for 12k two months ago. Very fast and nice proc. Proc is kinda useless againts giants though and I figure againts mobs with high cold resists. Worth it to do the entier quest? I'd say so. Currently dual wielding this and Blood point untill I get my epics.
Best looking wep in game
# Oct 09 2002 at 3:09 AM Rating: Good
Far as I'm concerned this is the best looking wep in the game, has a blue gem almost flame looking top, massive lightsource, bad*ss stats and procs for 140dd, dunno of too many others, best 10k on drinal server i ever spent.

OH and a cool lil Coldain figure stamped on hammer part of it facing u, like the ones on the shields really dope weapon verant

Boink
# Sep 15 2002 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
Picked one of these up the other day, LOVE it. The proc is wonderful agro, but this is a tad slow in main hand if you're trying to keep taunt, unless your dex is megabuffed. Love the stats, love the proc...get one.

I've found with my 56 ogre warrior that running with a shammy I'm almost allways mexxed on str sta and dex, just lacking like 20 points on agi, unless I get feral avitar cast on me.
If I'de have know better when I made him I woulda dumped everything into agi lol.... then again who'd have thought I'de be a 65 shammies pet lol
Not bad...
# Aug 18 2002 at 6:01 AM Rating: Default
I'm a gnome rogue of the 60'th season a wizzy in my guild did the 8th shawl quest and since i tinkered him all the geerlok things he needed for free he was so kind enough to give me this its in my offhand now nice look and stats. I do not think its worth doing the 8th shawl quest though that;s a long *** quest.
Level Recommended
# Jun 11 2002 at 1:45 AM Rating: Default
Just a FYI. The recommended level is 51 so you should be able to equip it at a lower level with lowered stats right? WRONG I won this for my 48 Rogue and he can't use yet. So if you are thinking about buying this for your Main or twink who is lower than the level that is recommended, you cant use it, at least at 48.
slashing?
# May 19 2002 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
I really wish EQ would make up it's mind about mining picks. Some are slashing and others are piercing (ex. sturdy grimling mining picks).
it's a matter of looks.
# Sep 11 2002 at 10:33 AM Rating: Decent
i think the reason this one is listed is slashing is because of the character animation. with a pick set up as a piercing weapon you end up trying to poke a mob with the flat section of the T.. with it set as a slashing weapon, you actually make a slashing motion and it looks like yer pegging the mob with the pointy end of the pick..
#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2002 at 10:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Played with one of these tonight, Grats Valamil on Terris Thule on 8th shawl, this weapon has a real nice graphic, unique I think, its a mining pick with a blue diamond on the top of it kinda glows, procs 120 dd but all around its kinda sucky..looks nice though! 8th shawl war is really easy..did it with 3 groups np.
RE: woot
# Nov 05 2002 at 10:46 PM Rating: Decent
Kinda sucky? How do you figure? This is one of the best droppable Warrior weapons in the game. The stats kick *** and the proc is great. Only thing that sucks about this is that the proc is cold based, which gets resisted alot in Vellious. I use this + Frosty unless I'm fighting Frost Giants. I use a BBoT in my main hand against them for the Taunt.
Nice drop
# May 10 2002 at 8:15 PM Rating: Default
Jus one of the nice drops from the shawl quest *sigh* now jus to find someone doing it....
