few notes on bard aggro
# Jun 19 2003 at 11:34 PM Rating: Default
As a 57 bard, I can say that while we will never be #1 in either aggro or dps, we are up there. Yes, our melee dps sucks due to lack of dual wield. Yes, because of this our melee aggro sucks. However, as I found out tanking around the castle in PoD (now there was a challenge for a guy with <1k ac and 2.2k hp), we can generate hella aggro with the right songs, and these same songs put me over 100 dps, which is ungodly for a bard if he wants to live in most groups :P. If I was slowing and bardnuking I could hold aggro pretty well. I wasnt the best tank, but we didnt wipe ever and I held aggro for most of the fights.

the burning rapier ratio is 7 / 20 not 17/20 that would be insane!!

Probably meant Blazing Rapier, which is 17/20

They aren't making Bard weapons with much better ratios then this for nothing?

Burning Rapier, 17/20

Lava Infused Bludgeon, 15/19

You're an idiot.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 04 2002 at 5:07 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Here's the thing: 10/19 is kinda the suck at the level that casually 6-mans the sewers. Granted, the sewers is the easiest, so some of you Velks gimps could forseeably stay alive long enough to kill something in here... but...

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 03 2002 at 10:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Guy has a level 30 bard and he thinks he knows what hes talking about. Ignore him please. At level 60 bards get decent aggro but if they are with a tank with epic or willsapper or better you wont get hit much, despite all the singing/dmg/healing etc. Low delay primary 1h weapons give more aggro but they arent making bard only weapons with ratios much better than this for nothing.

Say what you want, script out some ridiculous pithy comments to prove your IQ, but bottom line youre still wrong. Odds are any group that could fight down and get this item will have a melee tank that can out-taunt a bard both before and after he/she gets this blade. Are you assuming that most people are NOT level 60 that accquire this item? Well youre wrong again. Been to CT lately? As for ignoring you, its not due to your level but what you say (and how you say it).

Ah, that is where we have had confusion. I admit I was a bit harsh in my earlier posts, (I was about to give reasons, but realized that no one probably cares, lol), and I do apologize for that. But your reply to mine failed to see where it was coming from. It had little, if nothing to do with this fine weapon. It was over some other posts by persons who had never played a bard stating that we don't draw aggro or some such. Then there was arguing back and forth about bards not being able to dish out damage. My post was more to those. With regards to 60 characters, hearing that tanks start getting much more aggro makes my day (this also has to do with the hate reducing song as well, yes?)
In closing, I meant no true disrespect to you, I assume that anyone playing on about a 50+ character earns a little respect, this isn't really an easy game (please no ridiculous statements from anyone on that). Oops, enough rambling, time for work. Happy hunting all!

Then don't post it under the comments for this weapon, dolt!
(Yeah this is out of line but damn people quit whining about class and balance issues on an item.)

The point I think people are trying to make here (but speaking from my own experience) is that at L30 you don't have the perspective to speculate on the dynamics of melee at higher levels. In particular, what I found was that levels 30-35 were the peak of my tendency to draw aggro in a group. It declined sharply from there. It seems that bards just get their high-aggro abilities earlier in their lives. Later in life the other classes catch up in a big way. Good luck trying to take aggro off a chanter at L45. The only time I get aggroed hard these days is when a charm breaks.

And as far as outdamaging other classes... if you wanted to be the baddest dude on the block in one narrow little area, why would you even play a bard to start with? I can deal fair damage as a bard, but the reason I play a bard is versatility. Bards are the Swiss Army Knife of EQ. I can get a better blade, screwdriver or pair of scissors, but it's the ability to have -all- of them in my pants pocket that makes it valuable.

Oops! I forgot that EVERYONE is a 60 bard with a warrior chum toting the epic, my bad. I apologize, my message was meant for the (I guess) 4 or 5 bards who were less than 60 (or maybe just have no tank buds sporting the epic, either one). My point was merely that those lucky 4 or 5 of us (you know who you are, hang your heads in shame, esp. you who are 60 but without epic buddies!) pull in lots of aggro. But what are the odds anyone less than 60 even reads this website? Maybe I should take my newbie self over to Gfay... the level 5's will think I'm cool and knowledgable, I'll help them kill orcs, yea! I'll post back at 60, and then you can stop ignoring me, cool?
What is that dripping noise? Sounds like... sarcasm? Hmmm...

Many posts, many thoughts, and throughout much of it, unknowing fools touting opinions based on drivel. Well babble incohenertly no more, you ignorant and unwashed masses. Allow me to explain why bards cause more aggro than any of you other weapon weilding classes or staff leaning waifs put together. We deal damage, and quickly (aggro is not damage alone, number of hits is also huge factor), ok you might ignorantly venture, so do rogues (thugs more often than not, but I digress). But I then point out, we sing magic, and much faster than any other caster, and each tick of our songs pumps out even more aggro. Hence, we draw more aggro than the other slack jawed classes pounding furiously on the Taunt button, or the wizard who decided his mass attack fire spell would be a good way to pull an enemy (well, maybe not that, but that guy deserves to die anyway, right?), or the cleric who tried to just do his job (poor guys). We bards die, and are quite good at it, but always remember, we are generally doing it for you (we could run away, we do that better than anyone else barring of course a handy evac).
This is all assuming there is no chanter with us, if a bard has a chanter, chanters die first. I have yet to truly pin down the exact cause of this, but perhaps chanters are even more arrogant than bards, and mobs hate arrogance. This is mere conjecture, of course.
In finishing, I really don't have any dislike for a class, I tend to love those brutes mashing the taunt button, and the poor cleric who died healing me. But, I do get irrate when people slight we bards (not wee bards, no one short can be one, lol). And one last note before I go in PS's, if we ignored the rest of our duties, such as buffing the party during fights, using all our dots, DD's, and self combat boosts (of which we have like 2, but still) we CAN outdamage you, you silly (insert your class here). But that would be bad form, unless we are soloing. Alas, we have sucky hp, and can't take well what we dish out... thanks for reading, flame away!

Oh, I do have a PS after al, this is a nice weapon, if I ever get out of being deployed long enough to level my poor little songslinger, I would like to go and get it. Good day to you all.

As you climb past level 30, you'll find warriors more able to tuant off you. Also, if in dire need, you will get a -500 hate points song that will help accomplish that.

Not to critic, but Bards don't come near rogues in damage. No... where... close...

Have fun!
Emmmm....lol....?

Agro would be no problem with the Symphonic Saber in the offhand, it will reduce the hate list of the mob. Goit my SS the other night, now I am after both the Harmonic Dagger and the Breath of Harmony!

LAFF! sorry i couldnt resist. there is no way in hell u could out damage a 60 rogue. People dont call monks and rogues damage dealers for no reason. I would still have trouble thinking a bard outdamaged an sk pally or ranger. sks can dot for .. what .. 1152 damage ... and say u did out damage a rogue, sk, pally, ranger, or monk ..... you would get massacred =\. my old bard use to get lots o aggro b/c he had some crazee dex and duel wileded wakizashis of the frozen skies (88dd proc)and the ratio sucks 6/22 (i think) i finally deleted him because he died all the time (damn giantsssss) but hell what do i know =p
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 28 2002 at 1:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) True Dat. my lvl 41 Rogue can hand out whopping damage.cant imagine a 60 bard outdamaging a 60 Rogue Rofl!

its only the backstab..if your face to face bards will win and since bards would be doing the tanking of course the rogue is gonna get the damage from backstabs in..dont say your better for your damage only because you can ballsack a mob lol..fight em face to face and ill watch ya get yer **** wooped :D

Just adding another thought: I thought he was referring to stacking bards' damage shields, since he mentioned three mobs attacking at once. A monk can damage only one mob at a time, but a bard does fifty-whatever points per hit, and when he has three mobs on him at the same time, the DPS has got to be huge.

I saw an ubermonk beat herself to death on a bard. The duel lasted all of forty seconds.

a level 59 bard can probably not even outdamage a 50 monk. we do the least amount of damage of any mele class..and not by a little bit. if youre talking about our ae dots in ae killing, there is no way we could outdamage a 60 rog. quite frankly a 40 rog and good equipment should have little trouble outdamaging my 60 bard. please refrain from posting when you don't know what youre talking about.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2002 at 12:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) dude what are you smoking? thats some good **** lemmie have some... i know i dont out dmg any monks... i have out damaged the occasional ranger paladin or SK but thats it... and btw for the person talking about aggro... you shouldnt need a symphonic sabre if you have a good tank

duel wield
# Apr 25 2002 at 10:22 AM Rating: Good
Bards usually don't have trouble with agro in melee if there is any other melee class there. If i get agro it's usually from something i had charmed or mezed and if so I just turn songs off and stop attacking till the tank gains agro. The ration on this wep is nice but if you look up some of the higher end bard weps they are much better. Not haveing duel attack makes us not agro so much from melee but usually from something we did with our songs.

Thats nowhere near as bad as all the people who say rouge instead of rogue, and fraction, instead of faction. Those are my personal pet peeves.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2002 at 9:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this is absolutely awesome for bards, better ratio than a lammy and 12cha...though i wonder if bards will be able to deal with the kind of agro they'de be getting with this thing...
