This is another reason I like Luclin. Another type of item that will be passed and passed from character to character until it eventually ends up on a trader mule selling for about 25pp. These things are great low level tank items to wear. Just as people who hunt in Akheva Ruins will sometimes come out with a centi warspear and end up selling it for 40-50pp, gives come incentive for people to kill mobs and save up some money to buy stuff on their own...

for the past 2 days i have been controlling the war in the moors to keep the owlbears in control of the shores where the grims usually are and killing the screechmaw everytime it pops and for nearly 2 days now this hasn't dropped once i have gooten more than my share of the earrings but not this item once not that i really need it but just thought it was interesting that it hasn't dropped for me out of like 50 kills.

More like Paladin. Notice the CHA debuff. Pallys start out with a CHA bonus, so the debuff hurts them less than it does a cleric who usually starts out with lower CHA than a Pally of the same race.

So WHO actually drops the item?
# Jul 03 2002 at 9:53 AM Rating: Decent
(edited - Did ask who drops it and where, but I found out). So I'm posting it.

It Looks like This is the off the owlbear that sits at the chief spot...Owlbear Screechmaw. From the comments posted about him, he seems a bit harder than the chief since he's not rooted and resisted root - but not sure by what lvl dude.

So anyone else tired of the Grimlings taking over the ENTIRE Zone? and the prince not spawning so we can reset the zone? Sheeesh.. I am!

Just confirming that yes this drops off an Owlbear Screechmaw who spawns in the grimling chieftain's spot when owlbears control the camp. 2 droped in about an hour today, dunno if this is a fairly common drop or if me and my partner just got lucky (the perfects were droping too woohoo)
The other times he droped something it was the owlbear claw earing that seems to drop off all the named owlbears.
Monk?

The AC is amazing on a monk-useable item, but unless you have exceedingly light weight gear everywhere else, you would probably not want to use this as the AC would be lost in the weight. Reinforced or Studded Acrylia all the way :)
the graphic is that of chainmail

Got one of these this weekend and put it on my cleric. the graphic is that of chainmail or banded. sort of disappointing, it being a ribcage and plate class armor... thought would at least be plate look. But the stats are fair for a cleric and better than the bloodstained.

Would be nice if shm and/or druid could use though... shm since is chain look and druid since has no metal involved (sinue wrapped bone).

No Shammie or druid?

This would seem to scream Shaman, and would even make sense for Nature loving druids putting good use to a carcass.

Plate wearing classes and MONKS???

Thats just wrong.

A monk would NORMALLY not want this item. Look at the weight. 8.0 is pretty heavy for a monk of any level.

There are several alternatives that would be better suited to a monk anyway. Black Panther, Reinforced Acrylia. Of course unless you have a high tailoring skill its going to cost to buy those pieces where this is dropped from a quest.
Monks Vs Beastlord
# Apr 20 2002 at 12:24 PM Rating: Decent
I find it really strange that there are so many armors out there that monks can wear that beastlords can't. Seems that Verant likes to slap monk on everything and just add weight if they really don't want monks wearing it. Beastlords on the other hand don't have the weight problem, meaning they just don't allow them to wear anything.

And the Beastlord Kael armor has 20 ac? ***** that, my beastlord is getting a treeweave...
RE: Monks Vs Beastlord

Just because Monks and Beastlords share alot of armor doesn't mean they should share all armor, although this particular item does have strange class choices. Beastlords are closer to Shamans overall than they are Monks. And to your comment on the Beastlord Kael BP, have you seen the stats on it? It has much better stats and an effect that rocks the Treeweave, not to mention its lighter and less newbish. Sure you can buy a Treeweave, or get one fighting in BW, in a tenth the time it takes you to get the quest bp, but you'll appreciate the quest bp more.
Very Heavy
# Apr 19 2002 at 9:18 PM Rating: Default
For once I dont think anyone will say "This is a monk item" lol. This is a very nice BP for a cleric considering most people who could obtain this are still using a bloodstained tunic.
Monk?

Just find it interesting that chain classes (Rogues, Rangers and shammy) can't wear this tidbit, but Monks can. Seems a bit heavy for a monk, but then again what do I know? Not like I play a monk.
