The assailants are particularly prone to dispel the tar buff at the last second (and if you cast it before the last 10% of health or so, it almost automatically gets rid of it). Are you seeing the yellow message that says the tar buff stuck at the end?

I got the 7 charred Soldier's bones no problem, but killed like 30 of the Assailants and not one drop?
