Updated, thanks. Can anyone confirm when in Progression server timelines versions of the Hole change up? As far as we know, elemental harvester does not exist on live servers.

We need a modern item window pic of this item.

We could use a shot of someone wielding this, though other threads complain about it looking like a torch. Since a brand is a torch... that makes sense.

I've killed scads of elemental warriors, crusaders, & monstrosities in The Hole, & have never yet see one of these. Until I actually see one drop there, I'm sceptical that they do at all.

I obtained the Smoldering Brand years ago when the hole was still relatively new. I happily passed it down to my alts and was actually thinking about it the other day because I had long since sold it probably for less than its worth. Its a great blunt weapon for starting a new char. It has a relatively short delay with a nice little proc and majority of char classes can use it. It can help you blow past the first 1-25 levels or so. And now with DS and haste potions and such you can add even more dps :) Unless they changed the loot this item is for real. If your boxing tunes it prob wont make too big a difference, but, if your tooling around solo or with a merc. And it actually procs relatively frequent as well. Its not like that stupid 2HB warrior huge delay slow hammer that your lucky if it slowed the mob before its at 20% health and running away even when your hasted. The proc of the weapon seems to do more dmg than the weapon itself at lower levels. Its hard to say if its worth camping this item nowadays with the availability of newer weapons, but, if you ever get ahold of one pass it down. If I remember correctly we where in that room with the shallow pool of water where the non kos npc guy is when it dropped. I have no clue the name of the npc it dropped from though. And, if that ain't enough, :), the torch graphic actually has a flame with smoke eminating from it so you can be the coolest looking noob(L1-alt)!!! Almost forget to mention its a pretty decent light source as well.

I have never seen the elementals drop them. The ghosts farther down in drop them fairly regularly (I average about 1 brand per trip to the Hole). Due to the zone revamp, it is quite possible that Alla's information is simply out-dated. When a ghost is wielding one, it will have it equipped.

This procs at lvl 1 for sure, I just bought one tonite for my lvl 1 cleric and it procs usually once-twice per fight for 10dd...even with my crappy 70 I'm very pleased with it. Not to mention its hitting for up to 19 damage on its own...well worth the 50pp I paid in the bazaar for it!

Just bought one of these in ec on the nameless server for 250pp. Did several different price check's in different zones, and got responses ranging from 100pp to 300 on it's value. Dont know if this is only on the nameless, but 200 or so pp for a weapon of this quality amazes me.

Just got one of these in a trade today. Great weapon for training my bard's much neglected 1hb skill. I'm dual wielding it with my crystaline spider fang or crystallized sword and dishin out a good bit of hurt.

Ya, I know, it'll add to my aggro. But right now I don't worry too much about that. Later I may...

My rogue hit 13 today in OoM. Finally having duel wield, I run back to FP and swim to the rogue guild. Swimming back, after talking to some of the NPC's for quests and such, I remember "Hey, I have duel wield!", so I equip the brand in my offhand. Well, suprise suprise - The brands graphic is no longer a torch, but a wicked velium spear looking thing with nasty spikes on top!

After a bit of testing, this only works if you are under water and equip the brand in your offhand. Goes away after you zone, but works exactly like the brand. Not sure if it's a bug or not.

Just found that interesting :)

Um, that "wicked Velium-looking spear" is a graphics glitch on all items with that torch graphic. I have only noticed this issue in Everfrost and Halas, but there are multiple glitches with torches and lighting that have existed for quite some time.

this is a very nice weapon. it has a proc that goes off more often than a velium wep, and with it being compatable to any class/race im sure that this wep will become even more desireable. now i dont care what anyone says, most of the peeps that complane about a peice of armour or a weapon just want them. so that is my 2cp worth::)

That is because the GBS adds +20 dexterity. Higer dex makes your weapons proc more often.
#Baron von Flyhalfer, Posted: Jan 06 2002 at 9:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) He is a ranger so he is duel weilding them. Which means that the +20 dex applies to both weapons for procing.

# Jun 21 2002 at 4:18 AM Rating: Decent
It does not need to strike to proc.
Have this weapon on my ranger atm, and have passed around all my characters, to quickly raise their 1hb skills. More often than not this weapon procs with only damage done being that of the proc.

Yes, flame away the old ac line of trash, a strike for "0" does not register. BAH, if it does not register it is not a strike. That is like a slap you do not feel, were you actually slapped?

I equipped my monk with one of these from the very beginning and it's been procing a few times at level 1. Only doing 10 points at 1, but I figure that by lvl 4, it'll start doing closer to its 14dd I suppose. Very nice weapon and I'm not overly concerned with weight yet. I carry an EE Bag for that. Just need to make sure the rest of my equipment isn't too heavy. I'm doing ok so far.

Dropped in the Hole last night off an elemental crusader, conned blue from level 47, probably around 45. We had 15 people and were camped in the huge room with the castle... come into the big eerie room, hold to the left wall, and follow the broken ridge left and down to a plataeu at the base of the castle. We were pulling wanderering fiends, elementals, and golems from outside the base of the castle and from inside the first floor -- knocking back the xp like water, considering we were splitting it 3 ways.

Most of the good items in the Hole are on a random loot table, like you find in Dalnir, or some of the items in Karnor's. That means any mob in the zone, including the ones right at the entrance, can drop it (but you can't get out without an evac'er, so it's not like that's a whole bunch of help). The nice thing about smoldering brand is that you can see the elemental wielding it, which will trigger some instant and excited spam from your group members. Heck, at first I thought this was our enchanter with an illusion -- til it clobbered our tank for double 105s.

Oh, in about 3.5 hours, we got 1 smoldering brand, 1 earthen blade, about 4 elemental binders, 1 Loam Cap. And that included time for a huge evac and CR when we lost the chanter on one nasty spawn. This is a great place to hunt -- and the rogue that won the roll is now very happy.

This is a great weapon for a monk. Its dmg/dly ratio is better than a fighting baton, it procs(which a fighting baton doesn't, even if it IS only around 14 pts of dmg), and its 1-handed blunt. It even gives(woohoo) +3 str. Of course, the big killer is its 5.0 weight, and the fact that its lore. Good for the monk who keeps his weight really low.
RE: good monk weap
# Apr 09 2001 at 1:28 PM Rating: Default
Others have said it's an awful weapon for monks... okay, but what if you already had one anyway?

I got bored with the game after making it into the upper 40's and quit playing my main character when he was only one blue bubble away from 49. So, I was able to partially equip a new Iksar monk, and I gave him a brand that I had in the bank.

Being new to my monk, I really didn't know what weapons were out there. So far, I like the brand, but I'm having a hard time finding a secondary weapon that doesn't push me over the 14 stones in weight. What is easy to get (without using my primary to farm) that serves as a lightweight secondary for the brand?

If your going to spend 4kpp on this weapon and your a monk save an extra kpp and get a real monk weapon a KD or something 14/28 (1.0 weight)... this sucks for a monk

This is an EXCELLENT monk weapon.

I use one on my lvl 25 iksar monk (Hammish, Veeshan server). I use it in my primary and use a bare fist for secondary.

A 14dd proc is good....basically just an additional hit. Altogether, with all my gear, my total weight is only at about 12 (this INCLUDES bags of food and bandages) so the 5wt isn't THAT big of an issue.

Not just an additional hit. Procs give you more taunt than a straight bit of extra damage, just ask any warrior. And well a monk should never taunt the mob of the mt.

Been procing for me since like level 14 I believe.

This is pretty dang good for my troll sk. I usually use heavy hitters like my drakkel icegrinder now too at level 22, but the brand is nice when you want to hit something a LOT. Plus It trains my 1 h blunt, dual attack and offense up DANG fast. Mostly I got this as a cheap (was free actually) 1 h blunt trainer for a moss.. but at 6 - 9 k I don't see me getting this char a moss soon. Maybe if I actually get it to 30.

I'm using this at level 25 and it procs for me. The burn spell acts like the level 1 spell "Burst of Flame" and only hits for about 14pts of damage. Still, it's a nice little addition considering the weapon hits so darn fast and I'm a caster.
