Well I can think of a reason they wont let Rangers have it. A gate item would be very nice to have, but I guess we are always supposed to have arrows in our range slot, ergo, we don't get to use this.

And it's next to impossible for us to get the OT hammer too :(. There is of course the expensive option to buy the Tolan BP. Thankfully for me OOW was released just as my attentions were beginning to turn to the BP, and the AA means i can finally gate...YEEPEEE!

Rangers can gate a few ways. Get the gloves from the gnome script in Cazic Thule that gates to nexus and is all/all, Tolan's Breastplate, Gate potion (duh), PoP clockwork talisman. Most importantly though ranges get to learn the sneak skill. So given the fact that at lvl 39 you can track down and murder the hell out of an endless amount of sarnak berserkers you can get someone to aggro captain rottgrim out from the outpost. Then you have one other person who isn't KoS just keep hailing him until you hand in enough to be non KoS. It's not impossible to get the OT hammer as a ranger it just takes a little extra work and tracking gives rangers 1000% better at getting the whips to turn in than anyone else especially since all berserkers drop 1 whip.

Also if you are a higher level ranger or an older ranger who happened to get the VP key at one point or is getting it now to do the new quests, you can kill anywhere in VP and get maximum ally with OT outpost in under an hour. The fights are no harder the Hall of Trials in ToV so just go at it but there are AE dispells, easily resistable or crap buffed...

or u could just get some invis potions and then turn in while invis. or u could always buy illusion potions, most effectively a darkelf or ogre potion. kill them sarnak berzerkers to get the braids. finally dont forget about ranger gating. GL and hope it helps

Wow times have changed sinc ei made that post! I now have several gate items, and none were too hard to get. The tolan BP I bought, though trakanon is Very easy now (a 32khp boss!). The PoP gate necklace is useful, but kinda redundant given the cost of the reagents. The origin AA, as i mentioned. And the OT hammer! I spent about a week killing beserkers, harmonising the mobs around the turn in guy, and handing them in for VS faction....I believe i posted the strat i used to do it. Well my faction remained unchanged, so i cheated and did what everyone does these days - bought puppet strings, charmed the undead foreman, gave him the jade and went off happy :). Since doing so, the price of puppet strings has plummeted on my server down to 10k for a 10 charge strings. That means anyone can get they're own gate item for just 1kpp!

I just find it funny how they put port spells on items for people that can either gate or port already.Would b nice to see a item like this for a Non gater / porter lol

actually this is good for gaters to, they can bind near the camp, use the focus effect to gate out if they need something (like fresh buffs, or have spells in bank they need after ding) than gate back and get back to killing.

Ok...who are you going to find to buff you in the Dreadlands? And i don't remember any merchants or banks there. There's no PoK stone. So how is it good for gaters?

Bah that takes like 15 min, 5-10 if your lucky .. usually your just better off running or shouting for port if you cant gate.. i personally use thurgaiden gates, easy and cheap to make. but seriously.. nexus scion.. lol when was the last time someone who wasnt really role playing used one? besides heading to EK they almost useless. you can get to almost any zone a scion can take you too in 5- 10 min running... yea whats up with all the gate items for gaters... BAH! get pottery to 111 and look up the 4th or 5th thurgaiden shawl quest, do some farming and save yourself a helluva lot of money and headache, BLAH i can prattle on

Even tho the skill mod n DL port ain't that useful now (due to patch and PoK books), this is still a very good range slot item for all round mana, stats and resists.

Better question for you.... Do you think they will ever fix that wall bug in HHK that has been despawning bugs since day one? heh yea right like soe will waste their time fixing something, they got to many problems messing things up to bother to fix something like that. 8-)

Sorry I don't have any useful information to post. Instead I would just like to make a smart alec comment. On the EQ atlas website it gives a little bit of a storyline on Grieg ie; he was constantly searching for a way to return to Norrath but was driven mad by Luclin before he was able to do so. He must have forgot that he had this :) The bitter Irony!

Heh, the story is in books and stuff in the game. There's a spot in the zone itself that looks like a half finished combine spires which proves they were following the story line pretty well. I think the point they want to make is he IS a regular human being and now look at him, he's most likely dead or in some form where he can't really use a teleport back to norrath but he managed to finally complete his work anyway...

It is an unbelievably difficult and annoying quest. There are three versions of the item and you get them via upgrades (sort of like coldain shawls). Do not expect that you will ever see this item since it requires way more effort that it is worth.

Being a cleric this item is just fantastic. Have to get to Luclin ? click yourself to the DL spire. I use this plus my Faithstone of Mischief and they save me a lot of time. I might also mention that this is a great lightsource. And yes,it is self only.

I was fortunate enough to obtain one of these lovely things upon the demise of Grieg Veneficus to my guild.

Uhm... the effect is merely the icing on top - so what if it takes 32 seconds to cast and it's self-only?

The stats/resists/hps/mana are awesome. Only thing in game I know of that's better is Cazic's Brain.

And with maxed sense heading plus 20%... I still from time to time cannot tell in which direction I am headed :)

Actually once your sense heading is maxed a +20% does nothing. According to verant +% modifiers won't increase skills over the established cap.

They do however help if you have one skill over 200 and another maxxed at 200, since you can only have 1 trade over 200 unless you train the new Tanaan crafting mystery

Untrue, the cap that you can bring your skill to is 250, however with a Geerlok item that skill goes to 252. Two points arent much but they are something, and you need every little something you can get tradeskilling.

Anyone who complains about this item is obviously a moron who has and is never going to have the opportunity to get something like this so all they do is post on allakhazam. and act like they know anything about the game. This item is obviously one of the best range items in the game and the 32 second casting time is no big deal at all. It takes 10x that long to get a port anyway...

I love the way people ***** and moan about an absolutly amazing item such as this. Come on, its got incredible resists, 15AC, +100 mana, +10 to wis/int, and lots of extra hp. All this in range?? Priests and casters?? Who gives a damn if takes 32 seconds to port yourself to DL?? It takes longer to FIND a port than click this thing. Not to mention it drops you right at the spires to get to Luclin... If this seems unfair to you, look up all the mage triggered effect items, then come back and honestly say this is crap because it takes you 32 seconds to teleport yourself to a place that 5 of the 7 useable classes can't without changing their bind.

Yes it is still balanced even if it is soul bound. Key here is RARITY. You know that word that means there aren't many of them out there, and never will be. If these were common we would have seen one before now. After all this is the first one the public has been made aware of, and luclin has been out how long now? Hmmmm?

32 seconds to get to DL (a Luclin spire also BTW), is a lot faster than waiting for a druid or wizard to come your way and do it for you...

Then again, with out that complaint, what else is there to complain about with this item?

There is nothing to complain about. Remove the port effect and there are still about 99.999 percent of us that would still want it (The other people already have it). Unless you are AT the DL spires, or have a free port standing next to you constantly, it would take you 32 seconds to find someone, have them mem the spell, and have them cast it, even under optimal conditions ("Paying 10k for a port to DL!")

Anyone know if you can use this to get to the nexus from Norrath?
Without the effect, this is one of the best range slot items available to any class (not just the ones that could use it). Resist, stats, bonus mana and HP, lots of AC (considering the slot). Who wouldn't love one of these? With the addition of the effect...this isn't a replacement for Gate as a "oh god I don't want to die here" spell but definatly useful for exploring Luclin. I doubt it would work if you arn't in Luclin (like the Wizard Nexus Gate), but you never know.

Personaly, I think Greig is going down alot more after people find out about this beauty. ;)

Just a guess since I am a druid and our spells are named slightly different, but this appears to be the self only gate to Dreadlands spire.

The spell description is incorrect, my wife plays a wizard and "Combine Gate" is self only port to Dreadlands.

Yes, but the spell description is for the spell "Combine Portal" this item has effect "Combine Gate"... the self only teleport to Dreadlands.

The effect is Combine Gate meaning it ports you and only you to Dreadlands and only Dreadlands...Dunno where you got this Nexus crap.

I think what he meant was whether or not the effect will work if you are in Norrath to get to Nexus Scion NOT Nexus in Luclin.

Just like Wizards Nexus Gate, Port and Teleport spell, they only work in Luclin.

So, now you know why he asked that question.

Combine Gate works anywhere in the game.

When you say "Just like Wizards Nexus Gate..." what do you mean by "they"?

This spell does NOT take you to the Nexus. This spell takes you to the spires in Dreadlands.

I see no reason that this item would not work in every zone in the game that lets you gate.

You COULD use this item to get to the Nexus, by clicking the item to get to the Dreadlands spire, then getting a spire shard from the Scion there.

I'm pretty sure what Jameya means by the wizard nexus gate are the spells Nexus Gate, Nexus Portal, and Translocate Nexus. They are wizard only spells you can buy in Katta. The down side to them is that they can't be cast on Norrath to get to the nexus only as a way of moveing back to the nexus once you are on Luclin.

Not sure if this information was posted before the change, although Nexus Gate/Portal/TL can be used in Norrath now, including the rest of the Luclin transportation spells.

The spell effect reads as "Combine Gate", which would indicate to me that it's a self-only effect.

Not bad for a solo player though. If you're about to die, just root the mob, set your pet on it, or otherwise slow it down, and then click this effect. Don't need to bother memming a gate/teleport spell, and get out of whatever situation you got stuck in.

Wow this is an incredible item, 20% sense heading, 10 wis, 100mana, 7 to everysave /gasp, only downside is the 32 second casting time on the port. Oh well, just don't use it to evac, this item is great for everyone who can use it
