Excellent necro weapon
# Jun 19 2015 at 6:10 AM Rating: Decent
44 posts
Here's what I like about this, after using it for a very short time...

My necro can run up and hit autoattack on a mob, but cast to his heart's delight and I know I'm not going to steal agro (at least not with the weapon), I'm not losing any DPS since he wouldn't be in melee range without this, and he's currently level 49. Each mob I fought with it lasted about 60-90 seconds and I finished most combat with 2 chunks of meat. By the time my necro hits 59, I should have a few stacks ready to be turned to bone, without having to see a vendor.

It's not a huge deal, but it's nice. And it looks good.
Spawn Time
# Dec 18 2007 at 3:28 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone have a definitive spawn time for Praetorian Myral? I have heard anywhere from 18 hours to 72.
nice sword
# Aug 25 2007 at 3:03 AM Rating: Decent

bought this for 850pp on FV server.I honestly couldnt get to the trader fast enough!Dont know if this guy didnt know what he had or what he was thinking. This is a great twink sword.13/20 with 80 hp's.so you dont get the proc till lvl 45.big woop.that extra 80 hp's at lvl 1 more than makes up for that.
Fixed

The graphic for this did get fixed btw. Once again looks like a scythe, and looks way better than it did before. Very cool.
New graphic
# Sep 22 2006 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
With the launch of TSS, this has a new graphic. The blade looks nice, the shaft has been considerably shrotened however. I still can't decide if I like it or not. The length of the shaft is somethin close to what you would find on a 1 hand blunt.
New graphic

OK, best way to descibe this is a fancy pick axe now. Very dissapointed. My necro needs a scythe!

Just wanted to point out something. I see that this procs flesh rend which gives you a piece of meat. Wow so uber... you can go to Thurg and buy a stack of meat for what 2 gold or something. I myself just do that run once every couple months or so and just pick up around 200 pieces of meat and change em into bone. The stats are ok, nothin to holla about specially since there are no resists on it but, better than a kick in the middle knee.

what am I missing? I don't think I would ever use this since I normally have up to around 400 chips in my bags since I just go buy the meat for like 20pp in Thurgadin. Especially now that you can stack 100 bones in a stack. So if you are a necro and don't have a bone chip on yer person. Take a 5 min break and go get a ton of chips for 20pp instead of spending a ton of pp for this pos.
Meat

The proc is useful, because if your using it your pet probably died, so you proc and you get meat that necros can use to turn into bones. As for stats, for the difficulty of the mobs, this is pretty decent, I wouldn't complain, beats spending 15k+ for something in the baz.

70 nec here, and having already farmed this guy back around 65 with a bard friend of mine, I decided to take a shot at soloing. Assuming you're standing at door to the room, make sure you have invis up and run over to the top right corner. Clear this mob by whatever means, and then wait maybe a minute. Then pull the mob on right side of prae with pet pull, or whatever you have to do to get him single.

Then, pull prae himself with snare. Mob on left shouldnt aggro; however, if this becomes a problem, just pet pull prae to get him single. If snare is resisted, throw pet on him to tank for a few seconds while you make sure snare sticks. Once snare is succesfully up, start kiting him up and down that wall mantaining snare, pyre of mori, and any other dot's you can afford to throw in (note -- very important that you keep your mana over at least 40%). This tactic should get you through till mob is at about 60% or so, at which point repops will start showing up. Now, this was the reason why you waited a minute between clearing the first two mobs; so that you have a minute imbetween pops. Just throw snare on the first pop, and go max burn to take him down quick. When second repop shows up, do the same; except its not necesary to go max burn, as you dont have to worry about repops.

Rinse and repeat until prae is down. From the second i cleared first mob, to when prae's corpse hit the ground, took me about 25 minutes.

Note: this tactic will work with either hammer or scythe, due to the fact that if you pay attention, you wont be getting hit.

Scythe
# May 12 2005 at 3:25 AM Rating: Decent
Got this sweet weapon for my Necro today. Can't be pleased with it more. I'll probably keep this equipped the entire life of the toon. Unless of course I learn of a better one that is also equippable in just the Primary. Gotta have the offhand for shield/book. As for the takedown of the mob, he was equipped with the scythe, so was a very easy kill. 66 BST tanked him with no problems. We tried to kill him yesterday before the patch cause he was equipped with the hammer and a guildy wanted that for his cleric. Worked at it for a while but his regen was too much for us to overcome by kiting. Tried to tank in the regular fashion with the cleric and chanter chain dispelling but still couldn't take him down. Went back this morning to see if he still had the hammer but had the scythe instead. Felt bad for the cleric but my necro is pretty happy.

killed this guy today.

Human Bard, High-elf Mage both 70, best pet focus in game level 66 air pet, Time/GoD/OoW geared, we had a pretty difficult time killing him. my pet tanked 90% of the fight. This mob probably had 200 - 300 k hp and hit pretty darn hard, I used my 7k LOH on pet twice so the fight took more than 9 minutes. At first, I was nuking but once I saw him getting my pet to low health I used LOH and kept my pet healed/hasted/ds'd bard sang haste/ds/slow/proc song/chorus of life --- mob is one tough SoB.

Ok about the REgen thing, DOes Dieseas(SP) dots prevent regen?

I was tld that a mob wouldnt naturaly regen hp if he doted w/ a diesaes(SP), like Asystole?

Was this wrong?

disease dots usually just last a long time and do small amounts of damage per tick whereas poison dots do lots of damage per tick in a shorter time. Just what i've noticed

Basically the case has been made for the necro to have this and I totally agree. Perhaps I am wrong, but from a "appropriate look" standpoint, this item is made for a necro. As for our epic, forget the epic! This baby is golden

LOVE IT
# Feb 14 2004 at 6:44 AM Rating: Decent
Great wep, dropped 3 out of the 10 times we killed old Praetor since we started farming him for the clerics and their Hammers and Wand. I LOVE IT, I am a necro, and it procs for me at 65 on dark blue trash mobs in VT, GoD and elsewhere.

So far have ripped out some prime quality steak and turned it into bone chips. Thanks TVK et. al. for contributing to my Chunks of Flesh stacks. This thing rocks...I use it in place of my old Wand of Musing and put Staff of Lost Rituals in secondary at the moment.

Anyone who says a necro would not use this wep, or is selfish for wanting it, is ill informed. For the melees that CAN use it, there are plenty of better weps around, although I think the proc on it would probably generate a ton of aggro. It's not a BAD warrior wep, but if you are in a position to get this the warriors in your guild probably have FAR better.

Until you reach the really uber primary weps for INT casters from the Ele gods (and there are many int casters ahead of me in the DKP race) this is not a bad free 80HP, and for a necro HP are ALL. The STR and mana are nice, the INT I don't need, but on someone without the AA maxed 355 int this would be a real boost if you were a little low on INT as well. I happily gave up the FT1 on the Wand for 80HPs, since Lich really makes FT less of a priority for a necro than other casters. I am FT11 instead of 12 and this makes no noticeable difference for me at this time.

In short, if I were a necro I'd be asking for it without a scintilla of conscience about being called greedy. Go for it bone rattlers.

Indeed, this weapons is useless for SKs (ratio sucks), doesn't have the agro a war wants, is not designed for rangers (only human rangers can wield it, and they are pretty rare). The only melee who'd have the slightest benefit of it would be bard, that only leaves necros (and if once read the description, one would notice every single necromancer race is written here [+ frog, i don't really understand why they're here, but well shows how devs are today])

No, proc generates no agro, it doesn't harm mobs in any way, just summons a chunk of flesh (no drop)

Necros love this

This is an excellent Necromancer weapon. High hp/mana and great INT and even a str bonus. Not to mention that fact that it procs chunks of meat, perfect for flesh to bone.

I don't get it, what's the problem?
What's so hard to understand about a necro wanting this item?
A: 15 int, 80 HP, 80 Mana... For a fairly, easy to get item, that's one of the best 1H items a lot of casual players will get their hands on.
B: Procs NO DROP items, "Chunk of Flesh", which I would assume has one use and one use only: Flesh to Bone AA.

As for whining about the useable races.. Notice (with the exception of Froglok which is now on the list); those are ALL Necro races.

Obviously an item made with Necros in mind.
And I have one, and we can use it despite it being a 1HS.. no damage done as far as I can tell, just the chunks of flesh on the cursor.
Maybe they put the other classes on there for when there's no necros around. :P

New things to do with the meat
# Oct 25 2002 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
In response back the the Taunt? post, I have not seen any significant agro from the proc of this weapon, but I have enjoyed the damage output from the weapon which has helped tremendously over my old weapon (Silver Sword of Yalrek).

I do agree with Stirx that the proc can be annoying, but it doesn't mean you can't have fun with it. Since one of my druid friends just got her little bear pet, I've been keeping it fed by giving it the meat from the proc. She finds it gross, but it helps to kill the time inbetween pulls? *smiles*

For Shyriann, it's a wonderful weapon for necros with AA's, but the melee classes can benefit from it too. The added stats (str and hps) are a nice boost for a 1 handed weapon and the damage/delay is wonderful. My only beef with it is that it's for the primary hand only.

Me having my new main as a 43 Bard, i am soo going to put this on my wish list.....(Yes i know human bards arent really the best....but i was stupid when making him) What does the proc do anyways?
Necro's canuse it
# Aug 30 2002 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone actually tried to use this thng? My 46 Necro just got one last night, and it rocks. Yes, necros can use it. Yes, it even does damage. I hit for pretty consistent 25's with it... unheard of before I got this weapon. The proc does no damage, and will be extremely useful one I start working on AA. All in all, I'd say this was a fantastic weapon for a necro, being one-handed makes it even better because it leaves your secondary hand open. I recommend any necro who ever has the opportunity to roll on this thing DO SO. I love mine.
Love IT
# Aug 15 2002 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
Just got this weapon last night, and i must say i love the 13 dmg 20 delay .. 15str and 80 hp's i get from it, granted the proc of flesh might be annoying but really i just let it proc to my cursor.. continue my fight till its done then delete that piece of flesh :) something i can afford to get used to seeing how this weapon beat my CBOL in dps and stats by a mile :) . Not to mention i like the look of a scythe in my hand hehe. And for anyone thats wondering that didn't bother to read any of the other posts, the proc doesn't harm the user of the weapon. Just says something like you shriek in pain as a piece of flesh rips from you or something, happens about 2 times a fight for me but no where does it hurt me and again I just destory the flesh when the fight is done.

Several previous posts present plausible explanations.

At the "Level to Attain" listed here, I really wouldn't reckon on my Necro toting this thing for more than the stats, except maybe for the occasional bonus that comes from slicing a nice cutlet out of something's **** to use the AA Flesh to Bone -- for whatever that is truly worth.
