Some dropped items can be recharged. Really what you have to do is trust the item with someone to hit Combine in their tool box with one of the mana batteries.
if items can't be combined (ie recharged using a mana battery) there will be a message displayed in red to that effect - therefore the only risk in asking someone to try to recharge is whether they will give it back or not! :)
Listen guys, take a nice long look at the loot Naggy drops. Only warriors and bards can roll for the red scale(epics), only bards for the drum, only shamans for the hammer, only druids for the crook, only melees for the ROF, only casters for the Orb, only melees for the Fierygaunts, only rogues for the Koshigatana, only monks for the sachel.... If you don't want the cleric to roll on this, I suggest you plan your raid without him.
Just had a open raid tonight...and RL let all classes listed on shield roll. Bard won. What a waste. Bard also won prayers of life....yet right...twisting 3 songs and will have time to right click book for the group heal. <blah>
Quite frankly, who rolls on which drops from Naggy is entirely up to the Raid Leader. There is no "Can't" here. If you don't like the loot rules, don't go.
If you aren't there and you're not running the raid, please don't try to tell anyone else who should or should not roll on the drops
I've been on a few Naggy Raids. The last pickup raid it was FFA. A lvl 43 Pally won the red dragon scale and I won the druid only hierophant's crook (52 war here). No, the pally wouldn't trade the scale for the crook. That's the way it goes.
I'm running a Naggy raid shortly (not a pickup one). It will be NBG by classes that can use the drop and people who WILL use the drop.
The next pickup Naggy raid I run will be FFA (everyone rolls, highest rolls win drops in order high to low). Don't like that? Guess I won't see you there... oh well.
My experiences with naggy have been fun and exciting, and seeing all the phat lewt that he drops was one of the best parts. This shield was one the best thing that dropped (other than the torn book of flame) in my opinion for melee's and pallys specifically, and, it goes to a cleric. I am a lvl 36 pally (yes i DID get in a naggy raid and no it was not because i was in the leaders guild, which i'm not) and i was pretty pissed that it was a cleric that won it. A lot of other people felt the same way. I'm not saying that this shield is for melee's alone, but it would suit them a lot better than a cleric. The person on our raid sold the shield.

Look, friend...feel lucky you got to go at all. It was just an experience. I went on a hole raid but I didn't get the paladin epic piece, because someone else deserved it more than me...Hell...I'm not even level 50 yet. I'm not supposed to have that piece yet. But what makes it all cool, is the fact that I can write that down as a raid I've been on...experience is so much more valuable to me that phat lewt...a newbie with phat lewt will die...a scholar with cloth will die..just not as fast 8)

#REDACTED,
Posted:Aug 28 2001 at 6:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm surprised that they took you with em on the raid. Did you even survive all the AE spells from naggy?, didn't you get AE feared, and did you even hit em? and if so for how high? 20dmg 1 hit?
As a cleric i'm always looking for a good shield with low weight (i'm da el) but one not the highest availble at it's level (those need to go to warriors who will use them more).
I recommend this to clerics. the stats are good enough, and if anyone in your group has a problem with you having it they're, well, weird. Warrios/Paladins/SK's can use better shields then this at this level, and 10 charges is perfect for a cleric, because we'll likely only use it when a fight goes bad and we get agg'd on too fast... well you all know the drill. click the rune, poof, warrior gets longer to taunt mob off us.
Personally i would have rahter had unlimited uses of rune III, or even II, but for me 10 charges of Rune IV will work for what i need it for.
Oh, and i'm not saying this is the BEST shield a cleric can get at this level, i'm just saying if you get to this level and need a good shield this is one you can often get easily (when my guild rolled naggy i wasn't even there, but with only 3 clerics of a 56 person guild i asked for it when someone mentioned what was looted in guild speak, i basically mentioned i didn't ahve a good sheild, and everyone was just sort of like 'well, okay, he DOES revive us alot when the higher level cleric can't get to us to Reses. got it w/o even a roll)
Afraid this is a Main assist shield, that's all there is to it. The only characters that can MA with a shield are Pally's and SK's ( only ones that would MA with a shield ), those two classes are the masters of agro and need all the ac and hp's they can get to do it right... I have a Trueheart Shield and in the normal day to day grind, it is fine... but for raiding where I have to be the main or secondary tank, I'll use the Bladestopper anyday, the hp gain from stamina let alone the regular hp gain is really good, ac is as well... this is not a cleric shield, this is for the defensive hybrids ( shield of rainbow hues is the puller shield )... at the lvl. there isn't much better... in raid situations, planer really isn't better and you're being naive if you think that 25 raw ac is going to do more good for you than one of the hybrids that you have to CHeal.
While the loot rules should be clear before a group goes in, and to each group their own, how is this as good for a cleric as an SK or Pally? The next time you are healing one tanking while he uses a Cracked Darkwood shield while you lounge medding with your 25AC 15STA shield; think of all the mana you are wasting every time extra you have to stress your wrist to stand up and heal the poor sap again.
If you want to be an item dependent upgrade ***** on raids, make a tank, and let the selfless types who usually chose to be clerics continue to do so. Then you can follow around who you meat shield for camping WIS items for hours like the rest of us do.
I don't mean to flame you but what on earth would be better at this lvl? I play an sk and I still have my shield of Kurn (10AC, 10av magic) at lvl 47. There aren't that many shields as good as this one for my lvl, trust me. Getting a shield like this means getting into a raid like the one on Naggy. And guess what, there's the cleric, getting the shield. Anyway, I'm glad you have some extra hp's and AC, the stats that are least important to the melees. And don't say that clerics need AC too, I'm fully aware of that, I'm just saying that melees need it even more.
This isn't a good sheild for melee, it should go to a cleric or shaman. The reason I say this is simple. The melee and hybrid classes that can use this are better using weapons and doing the mosy damage they can. the point of this poor stat sheild is casting rune buff and buff is the job of Clerics and Shaman.
Perhaps not as good as a Sarnak battle shield, but last time I helped kill Naggy he dropped like 6 items so there is a certain amount of reward for all the combined items.
Plus the reward of having killed a dragon was enough for me!!!
Put it this way I bet the guy who got the Cloak of Flames when the shield also dropped thought the risk vs reward was pretty good.
you maybe able to recharge this using a box bought from the key vender on the first isle of the PoA ... you put the item in and certain mana bateries (also at the same vender and sold in neriak) hit combine and its recharged... however not all items can be recharged ... not sure if this can or not ... hope this helps
The point of the charges is.. if you are say SOLOing a mob.. and you are down to like 1 bub of life.. you can rune 4 yourself.. and add some extra health.. which keeps your agi/sta/atk/ac ya know the reason you can solo up.. can be a life saver in area's.. I admit 10 charges is limited.. but hey..
Hmmm, only 10 charges of Rune IV... nice for about 10 fights but after that then what? The risk vs. reward for this shield is pathetic compared to the Sarnak Battle Shield (easily obtained by a 50+ group in Chardok instead of several groups for Naggy). Thanks but no thanks, I'll find a chanter to Rune V me for 12pp.
Is it just me or would this item be to good if it was free cast? I mean all the new robes in POG require a componit, such as the enchanter robe which casts rune 5.... if it does not. this is a hell of an item. root and recast = your pretty much invincable
Ummmmm....I have a bladestopper, and it doesn't need a component, and its almost instant casting time too. This shield is everything you want it to be, just like the name says, it stops blades, and clubs, and daggers....
Rune 4 is the 4th of 5 Rune spells available to Enchanters. Rune is a damage absorb spell, obviously eating more damage the higher level the Rune cast. Before Kunark and Velious Rune 4 was the highest Rune spell available, with Kunark (or Velious) came Rune 5. Im not sure on the exact details on Rune 4, im sure if you go to a web site like eq.castersrealm.com they should have the stats on it.
