I have a newbie Dwarf Paladin (now level 3) on Karana server. I was hunting in Butcher Block today when someone did an OOC about free loot being on a mob in North Felwithe. It was a GHOULBANE and a SHINY BRASS SHIELD. Not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I replied and ran to Felwithe and looted the No Drop sword and the shield. I didn't really pay attention to the name of the mob, though. Sorry.

Must have been from back in the day when you could give items to mobs and they would still be there when the mob was killed. Ghoulbane and Shiny Brass Shield are never found in Felwithe.
If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?

went to Crushbone last night, realized there is no map, got killed, retrieved my body with the help of a lovely bard, and stumbled upon trainer hill. there I grouped with an elf and on the first trainer we saw, a shiny brass shield. we rolled, I got a 40 she got a 9. I was happy! we camped for about an hour longer, third trainer after that she had hers. She was happy! She also said she killed 50 in a week with four drops of the shield and lost the roll is it rare? yes...Is it attainable? absolutely. =)

More luck than me. I've been camping in CB for about five days now, must have killed a dozen trainers so far. No SBS's yet.

Well I think on my other servers most of my characters have all obtained the SBS without any problems. I figured I would level up my character on the test server and went into crushbone with my level 10 Shaman. I was able to do about an hour at a time, for about four days in a row. And today after being in there for about half hour, killed two yellow ones and one blue one, the next one was blue and he dropped the SBS. I have a happy Shaman now that also got a ding out of it, and is now 11. :) On the test server I have no PP, and kinda really needed this, so I feel very lucky.

I spent three days whacking the trainer every opportunity I could.
I got him 18 times.
A friend of mine got him 15-20 times.
Neither of us ever saw it drop.
During the whole time, I kept up an auction offer wanting to buy it for 20 pp, noone took up my offer.
After a day, I started shouting, asking if anyone had seen it drop. No one said yes.
After three days, a party took him out and got the shield, then sold it to me.
1 for 30+? Here's what I think:
I think he only spawns with the shield when he is triggered to do so.
The shield is, after all, part of a quest.
I'll bet when someone asks the dwarf about armour, and the dwarf asks for the shield, the next trainer has the shield.
Just my thought, but it sure would explain things.
Seriously, 30 in a row is sort of indicative that something odd is going on.

Well, I have gotten this shield in 3 or 4 kills, when playing around in CB with my main, or higher level alts., However, when I wanted it for an alt druid on a different server, where I actually needed the shield, it took several hours to get it.

It random, sometimes 2 in a row pop with it, sometimes you wait for hours.

On the FV Server, got a drop last nite from Trainer. My 14 Warrior Human would run up the hill cons green all around. I kill them all and wait for trainer. Got a yellow cons trainer. That corpsed me but good. Upon CR, the yellow cons trainer was still at his post. So I wacked him again pulling to the low slop. Killed Yellow this time with less than 30 perc HP on me. Next was Yellow, killed that with no Corpse. Next spawn was Blue cons trainer, but I took notice that area around the trainers body glowed. With sheer delight, human warrior pounded into submission and got a SBS!!! Sweet shout!!! Now warrior sees better in CB.

This shield is now a lore item, which means you have to sell one before you can go for another. A friend and I were hunting on orc hill to get the shield to equip it. We waited a few hours before it dropped. The next day, we went up there again. The trainer was up, we took him down, and he had the shield. The next trainer that popped had a shield as well. It's just luck of the draw. We had to sell the one on the trainer corpse for 8 pp since I already had a shield.

Agree that it is down to luck how often the trainer drops the SBS. If you clear the orcs on trainer hill, the trainer pops approx once every 10 minutes. I fought the trainer for 5-6 hours a few times without the shield dropping. Have seen other players fight the trainer and get the shield first time. Its a nice shield, my druid used it until they got a CGS.
# Feb 22 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
True it's not rare, it's just luck of the draw, i have like 6 of these shields so I use 1, and I sold the rest.

I just camped the trainer for almost 7 hours. He dropped the shield only once. I killed him over 20 times, but when I camped this guy with a different char, he dropped the shield 5 times in about 1.5 hours. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Dunno if this is true but, a mage and I camped him for hours, killed him like 20 times and he never dropped the shield. I was using my 2HS axe at the time. We gave up and left. Later I came back alone with my 1HS fine steel and kite shield. Soloed him and he dropped the shield second kill. Maybe it only drops if you can use the item, dunno. He wont be holding it. You'll only find out when you loot him. It's lore too.

Two more levels and I get dual weild, then bye bye SBS.

I don't know about other servers but Bristlebane's Trainer usually drops it. Cuz i found one on a trainer corpse and killed the trainer that spawned and he had it. So fairly it is not very rare i would say un-common at the most.

I read on an earlier post that killing all the Centurions on the Hill before killing the Trainer will cause the Shield to drop. I had been camping for a very long time over many days before reading that post. First try at the new method produced an SBS. I killed all the Centurions in a counter-clockwise direction starting with the ones by the fire. It may have been luck of the draw but I now have what I came for...

It doesn't seem to help to clear the hill entirely. I couldn't seem to find one to purchase for my bard alternate, so I ran my druid up to toast the trainer a few times. After about two dozen kills, he still hasn't dropped it. I've been keeping some newbies buffed and sowed while waiting for it to respawn, so I have them keep the hillside clear. They get the belts, the exp, and I usually go in and clear the throne room for them. Often Emperor Crush will drop the chain shirt for them also.

The spawn is exactly 12 minutes, as someone else also posted. There seems to be no placeholder, and the trainer always seems to spawn. However, he hasn't dropped the shield so far.

I assume that it will be visible if he is carrying it, but I haven't seen it so far.

You don't have to kill anything else but the trainer. I have picked up a few of these for my new twinks by going in with my 30 cleric, and just nuking the trainer. I have gotten the shield in as few as 3 kills, and as many as 10, without killing anything else on the hill.

BTW, one 200hp wrath and the trainer is running away. A 40hp damage stun, and usually he's dead, or 1 more hit and he dies, so he always has over 200hp, and seems to max at about 250.

As far as the shield being rare, I'm doubtful. I looted 3 in less than 20 kills. Yes, I know they are lore, I transferred the first to an alt, and gave the second to a guild newbie. Plus the trainer is a very fast spawn. I would kill him, med up, go kill crush, and the warlord (or his ph), come back and he was up again. Note, I did this at odd hours, so as not to take the spawns from someone of appropriate level, and would give the camp up to anyone below lvl 20. Just seemed like the right thing to do.

I got my shield today. I had to camp the orc trainer for a few hours. He spawns every 10-15 minutes, sometimes there comes a centurion as place holder I think.

You do not see the shield on him if he has it, so pray when you loot ;-)

I did not count, but I think I had to kill him around 15 times before he had it.

Good journey to you.

Well, i've had my Shiny brass Shield since level 10 and now trying to upgrade my shield at level 15 (Cracked Darkwood Shield in Highhold Pass..)

When i got the shield it was late one night and i was thinking of buying it, after hearing that the trainer hardly ever drops the shield...

I met up with a High Elf cleric who was level 14, and instead of selling me one, he said he'd help get me one, for a small price of course.

We ran up to Trainer Hill, which was deserted, and imediately killed the trainer and the two orcs beside him. Well, we waited about 45 minutes for the shield to actually drop.... in which I had levelled up to 11 (DING!) I thanked the cerlic (i wouldve been sliced to threads by the 6 orcs there, and paid him 10pp, so he could buy some new spells.

Ive also helped group members get one, all i did was camp the place with my group (lvls 14/15) and waited. I got bored and pulled legos and emmissarys to the hill, just for some exercise. All you do is jump down into the moat, let loose some arrows/spells and run back to the hill, but make sure they never aggro on someone else.....

Good luck, great shield for non-twinked, low level ppl!

_The_ main reason to hunt in CB...
Its relatively easy to get for low-levels, goo d item for your level.
The hill is also an easy spot if you can kill off all the cents popping. Level on Trainer is explained above... The reason i consider it safe is that if you can handle the trainer, you'll have no surprises in form of trains. You have the trainer and the lower-level cents to deal with, period.
spawn times and drops

I camped the trainer on the torvonillous server last night and found the following:

- trainer spawns every 12 minutes almost to the second

- he dropped the sbs on the 22nd time we killed him

- it took about 4 hours

- higher level trainers (lvl 12) seemed to drop better loot

- while we were camping him, we gathered about 35 cb belts off the orcs that also spawn there

um, i don't know why this is listed as "rare", but it's not at all rare, nor is it very hard to get on your own by killing the trainer, or just by buying it. it's not too expensive either...a nice piece of equipment if you're dueling a caster and need the extra magic resistance

Pending Lore is how items were marked when Verant was starting to make Lore items. They had never existed in the game before and this was a warning for people to sell any extras or the would 'poof' when the item became Lore. The pic here was taken during that time frame. The current pic in EQ will show as Lore.

I camped the trainer on Erollsi Marr for 2 hours last night. We (myself and 1 other) killed him 10 times, for a spawn time of 10-12 minutes. The 10th one had the shield; he was /con yellow to a 12th Ranger (most were blue or white) and he was the only one that was armed (Rusty Scythe).
