One gets a Small Ddolerite Shard by being a non-druid doing the "An Epic Request" task and doing the Jaggedpine exploration step.

Clicking the druid ring while you have a Small Dolerite Shard in inventory helps to build up the ring. Any character with a Small Dolerite Shard in their inventory can click the Jaggedpine druid ring and it increments some server-side counter that tracks how many dolerites have been added.

Once enough people on the server have contributed Dolerite, the druid ring is completed on that server and stays permanently completed. From that point onwards on that server, people who complete (or have already completed) "An Epic Request" can click the druid ring and receive the clicky Ring of Jaggedpine.

Clicked on the pillar on a server where they seem to be done. The stone disappeared and this text came up:

Yellow text: You set the small shard of stone down next to the pillar. Reinforcement for the already finished project.

Clicked again, while still working on the Epic Request:

Red text: Your understanding of this monument's importance is... lacking. Return when you have completed some impressive feat, like the telling of an epic journey to royalty elsewhere in the world.

After finishing the An Epic Request quest in Felwithe, returned to Jaggedpine. Clicked on the pillar again. This time:

White text: The mighty stone pillars of this monument stand proudly in this sacred grove.
The newly carved stones seem to radiate with power.
As you survey the impressive monument, a twinkling light catches your eye.
You reach down to uncover a ring that has been carefully placed at the base of the pillar. Some long-lost heirloom to add you your collection.

Received: Ring of Jaggedpine (ring, casts Ring of Jaggedpine with 6.0 sec casting time, 1 hour recast delay)

When you click on the pillars the stone in your inventory disappears

[Sun Mar 24 08:43:45 2013] You set the small shard of stone down next to the pillar. A small contribution to the ambitious project.
[Sun Mar 24 08:43:45 2013] As you survey the unfinished monument you get the feeling that there will be a reason to return here when it is complete.
[Sun Mar 24 08:43:56 2013] The monument radiates with a faint semblance of power. Adventurers have been hard at work collecting the small bits of stone that make up this great site.

I got this stone while working on An Epic Request. I tried handing it into NPCs around the area, then noticed I could click on the pillars around Arben Leafsway. When I got close enough to them and clicked on it It took my rock and gave me an emote saying "You set the small shard of stone down next to the pillar. A small contribution to the ambitious project." Then another bit of text saying, " As you survey the unfinished monument you get the feeling that there will be a reason to return here when it is complete." Then, "The unpaired pillars are interesting when juxtaposed to the paired sets. Arben's monument is slowly taking shape."

This may be related to the Happenings in Jaggedpine that people observed around the middle of 2012.

This dolerite shard may come from people working on An Epic Request.
What's this for?

It has got to have something to do with the closed off zoneline in JPF.
