Think Wisps

From my soloing DE rogue's point of view this weapon has one distinct advantage: it can be used on wisps which are great solo prey but require magical weapons to kill. I agree otherwise with everything others have said re: the poor dmg/delay.

great plan,poor execution

i agree kudos to verant for initiating decent newbie quest's, i just started up after about a year and a half absence, and my DE cleric had on the newb armor till about 30th level, but.......i've noticed that with rare exceptions, the weap's suk, for a pure caster weap's dont really matter much, but for the hybrids and melee's i feel they should have made the risk vs. reward a little better, little meaning ALOT in this case

just my 2 copper though
thumbs down

I'm, usually not the type to complain about newbie quests, the more the better - but this reward weapon is one delay faster than a rusty short sword. yes it has 1str/dex, but with damage like this it still stinks. the beastlord newbie quest weapon was great, 5/24 and a lower recommended level than this.

Sometimes I think that they have some very different people making these quests and they have never met eachother. There needs to be some sort of balance.

you know what really sucks about this? check out the halfling rouge quest ---> DMG 6, DLY 21, STR 1, WT 2.0 for getting bone fragments and fractured jawbones from orcs, im not sure but i think this is easier than getting those halfling parts, thier ration,|||3.5||| DE ratio? 6.75 !! YAY FOR DARK ELFS, that sucks, poor dark elfs

What really gets me about this is that the DE Cleric newbie quest weapon is 8/29... only 2 delay slower with twice the damage... and it's for a cleric, most of whom seem to bow out of melee starting around level 15 anyway. It perpetually confounds me why Verant seems to think that Rogues don't deserve comparable weapons to other classes for similar effort.

/agree I love the fact they implemented the new quest, but it IS like some of these people have never talked. Some of the gear for one race/class is pretty good, maybe even considered great, but for another race class combo, you'd be better off in leather.

But I digress, 4 damage on a newb rogue weapon is accetpable . . . . on the condition that the delay is no higher than 21, 22 TOPS. For example, the Halfling Rogue weapon is 6/21 for example, what the hell is up with that?

Makes me glad my brother gave me a whole slew of daggers when I made my Rogue.

This is just pathetic. You can get better by lvl 5 in the tutorial. It ain't magik but the dmg is better. Frankly you can toss out a couple plat and pick up a Tombcarver in the bazaar.

4/27... WHAT BRAINLESS IDIOT MADE THIS!? For pities sake if my Rog had gone from a Glooming Deep Iron Dagger to this his max dmg would have dropped by a good 4 points. I've tried killing Halflins.... frankly I'd rather be tangling with orcs. Those halfings multiply like rabbits.

This is so not worth the effort to get. Whoopdie do 1 the STR and DEX. I wouldn't take that dmg/delay unless it had closer to 25 to STR and DEX and even then I'd only have it in my offhand.

First off, let me say that I too am happy with the efforts VI has made to add to the lower level game. I myself am not usually one to complain either, but they certainly could have at least made this comparable to a regular Rapier as far as the dmg/dly ratio is concerned. I was easily able to purchase the Rapier (5 dmg/25 dly, 15pp at the vendor premium) after selling a few stacks of bone chips in EC.

I realize that VI's justification for this would most likely be the STR & DEX bonus, but at a lower level the +1 to STR & DEX is not as important to me as being able to put down a mob faster, especially when I am soloing. At this point, I'd only do the quest for the novelty.

Just my opinion.
Peircing?

I wish that this was either 1hs or 2hs for my Inkie SK. All the other ashen bone stuff is awesome for a newbie. Now all I gotta do is figure out what server he was on and bust him out again
I agree...

It makes the game worth playing just to avoid twinking! I really wish they had done this eariler though I started a Vahshir Rogue just to be able to do the quests and Im haveing more fun with him than most of my High Level mains.
Nice Newbie Weapon

This is a nice weapon for the non-twinked newbie. It's on par with the Caster weapon and the Beastlord one; although the delay could have been a little faster ( it is a rapier after all.) Too bad the Warrior weapon is so bad compared to these.

I'm proud of VI for finally giving the non-twinked newbies something for their hard work.
