I'm sorry but you must either not be a caster or unaware of what mana preservation III does. I think ANY caster int and wis after 50 or so would want one until they can get into the REALLY high lvl zones, and some dont have the guild or time to, so quit trashing a great item.

Only 10%? to put into perspective what he just said, lets look at how much 10% actually matters..

only 10% of rangers die every day...(how many times you seen that happen)

only 10% of summons result in a casters death (seen that a lot too)

only 10% of the mobs in loy arent under cons (/shiver)

that only 10% ONLY makes a live saving event bout once a day lol.

that may be exagerated, but wearing this over somethin with a little better stats is worth the saved hardship of trying to find a cleric at 3 am.

think about it, winged death takes me 350mana, snare takes me 35 mana..thats the 10%, that 10% can save my life from an add in a bad siuation, and given the right situation that 10% could leave me enough to evac your sorry ***.

case dismissed you lose ONLY and 10% dont go togehter goodbye

ONLY 10 percent???? WTF is this ONLY crap? Last time I checked, 10% less mana was a **** load less than 0% less mana. Put down the crackpipe and come back to the real world. "only 10 percent" that has got to be one of the dumbest things i've ever heard.

Even rangers should like this item if they utalize their spell line.

"only 10 percent"

you might as well have said "the ODS is bad because of lbadkhjadfjajhq2304372akmehfadh" It would have made the same amount of sense.

hte mage summoned earring does in fact have a better % of mana conservation ( 15% ) but it only affects DD spells. this item affects all spells and so it is much more valuable. it should also be noted that the effect on this stacks with the effect from the AA Spell Casting Mastery.

RE: ODS
# Aug 08 2002 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
Not much benefit??? Well since you're a ranger, you probably wouldn't.... but as a cleric this helps immensely, as we constantly are casting heal spells, buffs, etc etc. ONLY 10% conservation of mana??? Since at lvl 60 my mana pool is about 3500, that would save me 350 mana if I were to cast until I am OOM. So basically, we have a 350 mana item in the shoulder slot with the obulus death shroud. You're crazy if you think anything a mage can summon is better than this (no offense, mages).
RE: ODS
# Oct 25 2002 at 4:23 PM Rating: Decent
Well, its actually better than +350 mana. Since you only use 90% of the mana, you only need 90% of the time to recover. So if your mana regen rate is 15/tick, this is like a FT1.5 item as well. With KEI, its close to an FT3 item while medding, FT1.5 item while fighting.

Uhm,. I'm a 45th level ranger, I bought this sweet shroud 3 days before the patch that added focus items for 1.5k on xegony. When me and my brother play together, hes a 47 rogue, i end up using all my mana keeping the mobs offa him when we constant pull mobs. This is definatly an item i dont plan to upgrade for a long long time. And when i do, my chanter is gonna wet his kilt when I transfer it to him.

I'm a 60th cleric and wear this all the time. Unfortunately Complete Heal is not affected by the focus effect. If you're like me, you use CH often and wont blow all your mana with other spells so you're not looking at saving 350 mana. Make sure you're wearing this when you cast group ageo.

Still a caster's favorite. I'd wear this over 7th shawl, and swap between 8th and ODS.

So go kill dar knights! :)

Ugh . . . I have clerics in the guild that say whenenever they group, even for a few hours, unless there are repeated wipeouts for some reason, you dont go thru huge amounts for symboling. They also say they jasper buff the non Enchanters/clerics/MT's . . . I just dont see how so many clerics are blaming their wealth issues on not charging for resses and DOT buffs . . .

Im a ranger. I dont charge for crap!!! I normally pay for resses and ports. I still have enough money to do what I have to. Are you telling me that clerics out there could not farm the LSoEE when it came out? Thats how I made 10k easily! 1 Farm of the LSoEE!!! There are many ways to make plat.

I know its off subject, but I'm so tired of this excuse for not having money . . . I know so many clerics that are way more loaded than I am . . . considering on many occasions, most clerics are reimbursed with gems for DOTs in certain camps. How bout the fact that a cleric can usually get a group easier than many other classes? You get more XP than us because of that . . . should we non wanted classes whine? Wait, how bout because you get more chances to get into the better camps, you have chances at better loot . . . how bout that idea. I CANT STAND THE CLERICS OUT THERE THAT WHINE ABOUT NOT HAVING CASH!!!

LSoEE is the Long Sword of Ethereal Energy. This item was a quest right after luclin came out which has been removed from the game so these items are very rare. Stats are 16 dam 25 del, 5 magic damage, 12 to dex, 15 ac, 10 sv magic, -5 str, -5 sta. So vs Low MR mobs it acts like a 21 dam 25 del weapon which is pretty good. The quest was nerfed to give out a scimitar instead without the nice stats because the quest was too easy. I completed it start to finish solo as a level 25 warrior wearing banded and wielding fine steel, so risk reward was way out of line. Smiley: smile

mana preserve does NOT stack with efficiency focus effects
# Jul 24 2002 at 11:50 PM Rating: Excellent
efficiency focus effects dominate over the mana preservation effect, because the efficiency spells save you 25% mana and mana preservation only saves 15%, and they dont stack, instead EQ uses the strongest one
Stacking of the effect?

Does Mana Preservation III stack with Affliction Efficiency III? In other words... if I cast Boil Blood while wearing both a Gem Encrested Ring and an Obulus Death Shroud, would my spell cost 25%+10% less mana? Or would only the better cost savings (AE3) apply?

RE: Stacking of the effect?
# Aug 01 2002 at 12:19 PM Rating: Decent
I doub it, I know the 2 Mana Preservations will not stack, and I believe affliction efficeny just makes the DOT do more damage faster doesn't it? (not sure) I thought the effliction efficently lowerd the time of a DOT by 25% but kept the sme damage so I guess it would stack then. I have Range III and Affliction Extension III and they work together on Dot's

My cleric has this item, and a black alloy medallion (or whatever the item is that has mana preservation II). Will the mana preservation III effect of the shroud stack with the mana preservation II of the medallion?

Thanks in advance for any info.
RE: Stacking of the effect?
# Aug 24 2002 at 4:08 AM Rating: Decent
Focus LEVELS do not stack. That is all they are. They affect spells up to a certain level.

If you try to use a level 26 spell with a focus I item, it will not work with the focus I.
If you use a focus II item with the level 26 spell, then it will work.
If you use a level 55 spell with a focus II spell, it will not work.
You must use a focus III item for that 55 spell.

It doesn't matter if someone else says it's only worth 5k... to me, I would rather keep my ODS than have 5k or even 10k. That's what it's worth to me.

This thing gives 20% decrease in mana usage. How do I know? Before verant nerfed the kobold jester's crown (with the same exact effect of Mana preservation III), I used my lvl 54 Druid. With the crown and the effect I could cast SLN 9 times and 1 SOE, (300 and 125 mana respectively a cast) and without it I could only cast SLN 7 times and 2 SOEs. That means without it I could cast about 2350 mana worth of spells and with it I could cast 2825 mana worth of spells...which is a 20% increase to 2350... the bare facts folks. Enjoy, 8)

I believe that to be incorrect. Alla gets its data from the Spells_en.txt file in your EQ directory, this data is what the game uses to determine item effects.

I know thats what Caster's Realm says, but what I said are just the facts...you can do the calculations yourself if you'd like. Fact: with Mana Pres III I could cast SLN 9 times and SOE once and without it (the item having the Mana Preservation being the ONLY item removed and none being added or changed) I was able to cast SLN 7 times and SOE twice. Do the math if you'd like.

You can notice the difference
# Jun 07 2002 at 10:27 AM Rating: Default
I own this item and baby it does makes a difference! I didn't know about the added effect at first, but I have noticed my mana bar not moving down as fast as it did before (then of course saw the message, checked my ODS and there it was - Mana Conservation III!) Woo woo! Also, it seems like I regenerate mana at a higher rate - I know that the effect is not that of mana regeneration, but it seems that way. One way or another, you definitely see the difference, so for those who say it's crap, get it first and then talk. 10% may seems like not much, but when you have this thingy on - you will notice it (I have SK and if I can notice it, so should you). Anyway, I was glad to see this effect on my item but hey, I would not pay some obnoxious amount of plat for it - the 5k I forked out doesn't seem as much anymore. Just a nice surprise after the patch :o)

On Rallos Zek, I trade a twink a frost gaint femur for this item. Both being junk, but this being a piece of junk that I could use as an upgrade to my embarrasingly noobish braided ivy cords, it was a good trade indeed. Yeah, its a decent shoulder piece, and I know that servers other than Rallos Zek seem to have less things in circulation, hence, higher prices, but, still, a couple K? I'ld call 500 an even deal on this thing. LOL, +1 sv vs all...beats nothing, but kinda taunting, huh? Atleast I haven't seen too many of these things around, and neither have most ppl that keep inspecting, so it looks pretty cool on the shoulders. Just my 2 cents.

Hehe, if anyone wants to start out on Rallos Zek, I'm normally on my druid, Feellwin, just send me a tell, I always have lots of noob junk taking up my slots. Just don't ask for anything that's Lore that I'm using =P

As for this item, (as it applies to me as a monk), I can't see myself shelling out the pp for this. I see a lot of monks wearing this item on Terris-Thule. The AC, Str, and Sta are nice, but look at the weight. IMHO if you're going to go for a 2 weight shoulder, go the extra .5 weight for Engraved Bone Pauldrons. They're cheaper, and they have comparable plusses, albeit in different, yet equally important attributes. But the main thing is EB Pauldrons are 12 AC as opposed to the 10 on the Death Shroud. That's an extra 20%, which will really show up when they get equipped and give even more AC due to the class AC multiplier.

And the real kicker? Look at the prices for each of the items I mentioned. Huge difference on any server; ODS = thousands of pp, EBPs = hundreds of pp.

Just my 2cp ^_^

Okay, I understand this is a really good item as I have owned one. Really good for a ranger, what with the pluses to wis and the mana + 25. Other decent stats too. The saves are nearly negligible. Here's where the " But " comes in. I am not one of those " AC is king " type of people, however, it needs to be taken into consideration. I am currently using engraved bone pauldrons. ac 12 ( with the agi +5 bonus, this now becomes a +20 AC on my char ). I did take a mad hit on charisma ( 20 points, ranger has little need for Cha, and can get other gera or simply take this off ). and I still get a dex + 3 bonus. Tough call, but I traded the extra mana ( and 25 mana in the hands of a ranger never saved a group ) and 5 wis, ulp! more mana, for the added 10 AC. In my book I'd rather have the dex up there, and later on find a better resist item to switch out on raids. ALWAYS open for suggestions, and points I may not have considered.
RE: Good item...but...
# Mar 08 2002 at 12:16 PM Rating: Default
Ac is not truly king for you, you're a ranger. Ac is king is a term for the classes mroe designed towards tanking warrior first off and SK/Pal secondly. For you stats are more important.

Also, the reason you get 20ac from your 12ac shoulders is because AC is measured as ac x 1.5, so the 12ac when worn is 18ac and you get 2 more ac fromt he 5 agi, not 8ac from 5 agi.
