Anyone know what the Familiar does other than follow you? Does it actually DO anything? Like does it give you extra HP or Mana or AC or ANYTHING?

Taramisu, had EXACTLY the same issue with a group yesterday, to the letter of your post. SHM, BST, CLR + Merc's.I think its really buggy because one of the group members had just finished trying this with another group with the same result. There was a guide in POK whom we chatted with but they were of no use.
Its been petitioned but i am guessing will have to try this again after patch and hopefully fix.

Task is Called Hatching A plan....this site has a write up or outline of it http://special.eqresource.com/hatchingaplan.php . Our group was attempting this tonight since the patch today made it live...we got to the step Fill the empty vial with Pegasus and Dragon blood 0/8. It updated no problem. Went to hand in the vial after we cleared the xorik room while wearing the robe . Xorik tells me you can have this back, I dont want it. Anyone know if there is a timer on this that u have to hand it in within 30 sec to a min or it empties? or is this another bug?

I completed the task today and did not have that issue with the vial. Did you hail him before giving him the vial? Other than that sounds buggy.
No. I handed the vial in first. he then handed it back to me saying he didn't want it. Then I tried hailing him, but that didnt work either. This was my second attempt at completing this mission. The first time I attempted it the eggs all hatched and I believe the write up states the hatched mobs would still count towards the goal of 8. Well we killed them all and update still said 3 out of 8. So our group decided OK its bugged. Time to restart it. Mission try 2 guards, eggs all went smoothly this round...vial was update 1 out of 8, 2 out of 8...complete. Clear Xortik's room. Went to hand him the vial first. He hands it back saying he didn't want it. Tried again ...same message... tried to hail after seeing it wouldn't take the vial but no at that point it was decided that it was bugged had to be. It was also decided to late for a third attempt as some were in cst and est time slots. So hopefully our group will have the guild's ench, sham, ranger, a live tank (vs the merc one we had) and another live person vs (the extra healing we had merc cleric) even though I am a cleric it was nice to have though a real player would of been preferred but you roll with what u can get :)

this reward is option two for completeing a task given by Destrea Kinmare in the Plane of Knowledge (option one being 125p plus experience).
as of the time of this post the task is only on the test server. it is expected to be available on all servers after the april 2012 patch.
it summons a familiar (not a mount) that looks like an armoured pegasus mount. I think its design is different from the marketplace pegasus mounts currently available, but I didn't look at it that closely.
