Since they updated spell graphics, root now has a very cool effect. A bunch of roots come up out of the ground and grab onto the creature you cast it on. The earring does use this graphic when I cast it.

As a mage, this item is priceless. It's the ONLY way I can consistantly cast root whenever I want to. No charges, and decent stats to keep it equipped. I've been offered over a million plat for mine, but I would never sell it. A million plat I can get if I just work hard enough, but a rooting item I will never get again if I sell.

About it's use...
Yeah, the cast time is 4 seconds. That's fast enough for me to root a running mob that is coming at me if it's running less the Jboot speed. Many times when I was soloing and my pet died I did exactly that, run away for some lead distance, stop and start clicking earring to root before they hit me. Then take my time and Malosinia, and cast a new pet. Before canni was nerfed, sometimes I would pull a mob with Malosini, root, and canni back to FM before bringing out my pet to kill the mob.

I also use this a TON when soloing dungeons. To stop runners, to split pulls. Using root on one add, then using /pet hold to bring the pet away is the safest and easiest method of splitting mobs I have ever used. Sometimes when I pull, I root one mob next to another, then fight the 2nd that comes.

When I'm dueling, it's suprising to say the least when I root the person I'm dueling. They don't expect to get rooted by the mage using a non wizard or earth pet. Instill lands decently well on even level players that have 100 or less MR.

Yes, this item did indeed use to drop in Cazic Thule from the Swirling Red mass. I got my earring from another guild mage that quit the game named Omagis. He got it from a guild chanter named Jaclynn. We were all in Blood of Ro at the time. I know of one other on my server, a mage named Simonus from Magna Charta has it.

It's really too bad Sony stopped these from dropping so fast. There are 3 of them on Solusek Ro, maybe just 2. Some servers have none. Very very rare item. But those figures I just quoted, I would go so far as to say it's the most rare mage item in the entire game.

It used to drop from the swirling red mass, the same mob that drops the FT 3 boots. Has been removed from the game and no longer drops. It is still dropable and can be purchased I suppose if you find someone willing to sell. Can be equiped in ear or ranged slot by the way.

Really who cares who would get the most use out of it? That's for individual groups/guilds to decide.

No one ever posted where this drops or what drops this. I am going to go out on a limb and GUESS that this might be ring of slime. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
RE: Blahblahblah
# Jun 25 2002 at 1:59 PM Rating: Default
Definitely not ring of slime.

I would have to guess it's off a rare named near the slime pools, not too far from the ring of slime. However, I have also heard unconfirmed rumors that this earring isn't dropping anymore; supposedly root + mages didn't sit well with Verant. If true, would explain why it's so hard to find relative to other items from Cazic.

Done the ring 5-6 times ~ only melee gear to date and a few druid drops. Other then that nothing else yet. So keep up the search
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 25 2002 at 1:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Root is invalubale in Charm situations and cast time is not to important free gem slot and mana root WOWO gotto keep the non pet rooted in charm solo so only one mob is kicking the crap out of ya when it breaks (or trying to kick the crap out of ya wile stuned) (=
Nice stats .. non-rooters would enjoy more
# Mar 20 2002 at 12:29 PM Rating: Default
The stats are beautiful .. the enstill effect .. well with a four second cast, unless you are Oom and the mob is snared already is useless. Why cast a 4 second root when you can just nuke. If you didn't snare the mob you would be hard pressed to get this root off before it smacks you. This is of course a Wiz opinion.. other non-root capable classes (mag) would enjoy this more .. but Like i already mentioned.. the mob would have to be snared first.. else rooted from the start and hope it holds through nuking (yeah right! :)) Once the root broke .. you would never get it rooted again before it beats you down.. unless it was snared, atleast not most times. It would be good for parking a mob.(the real reason root should be used with a nuke casting player). just my opinion of course.
But it would be a handy free spell to start with.. root.. snare.. nuke. Enstill is a lower (somewhere in the level range of 29 - 40+???) root..Depending on which class you are. At higher levels .. it is hard enough to get your highest level root to stick and hold on some mobs.

The haste on a tola robe isnt a waste..i have a 12/20 dagger that procs shadow creep i rather like being hasted......of course i only use the 2 of these on raids that im extraordinarly bored but its a fun toy from time to time hehe...

As far as wisdom...affects resists? no i dont think so...Lowers chances of failure with tradeskills yea ive noticed a substantial difference..affects how quickly your learn? depends on your base class..wisdom casters yes..int casters no int affects how fast we learn..Very similiar to how Agi/Dex affect how fast melee types learn...Does the wis on that earring benefit int casters..

Its debatable i wouldnt rule it out tho. verant has managed to stay fairly cryptic about stuff like that...now as far as the unlimited root...combine that with a nuke robe snare to pull and you can kite all bloody day non stop...if anyone wants to sell one of these on zeb ill pay 50k look me up.

Either this item will be changed to having limited charges or it will no longer be usable by mages. Giving mages an ability they were specifically designed not to have would be a major balance issue. It would be like a wizard SK getting a free normal heal spell or something, can't think of a totally accurate example:) Personally I hope they keep it unlimited but keep mages from using it if and when it gets nerfed, it is really cool for the other listed classes without being unbalancing, any more than the free root item druids get is.

Just for saying mages dont deserve this you should be shot :) hehe i am a mage and think that this would make up for some serious problems they have put to our class. I mean other than shadowknights we are about the most useless person on a raid (no offence to shadowknights but you know its true and admit it in RL, and dont bring the "what about paladin" crap to me, they have brells barier wich stacks with aego)

RE: Nerf
# Mar 20 2002 at 7:05 PM Rating: Good
It may not necessarily mean a nerf. The designers of the game put it there for a purpose, and made it mage usable for a purpose. Think about how difficult this is to get… This will rapidly be the must have mage item. Only nerf that wouldn’t surprise me about this item would be making it No Drop, I would imagine the price on this particular item is going to get rather high. But who knows really, the old “You’re in our world now” Vision for EQ seems to have recently given way to “A kinder, gentler Norrath”. Maybe the designers want mages to have at least one feasible way to root. However difficult that rooting method is to obtain…
RE: Nerf
# Mar 20 2002 at 8:50 AM Rating: Good
erm...in case you didnt notice, mages NEED a root spell, earth pet root doesnt cut it most of the time...even when the mob is debuffed. Your comparison is WAY out of proportion, giving mages a root spell is, in a way, finally making us able to defend ourselves if and when our pet dies. I probably wont go to the new CT for a while, at least not until it gets less crowded...

Yes you are completely right! And wizards NEED a pet incase our root should brake!
/Sarcasm off

A mage dies when his pet goes down, a wizard dies when snare and root kiting fails. Giving either one of us the ability to have both modes of personal defense would be unbalancing. In some situations the snare/root combo is superior in other cases mobs are immune to that tactic, making them so much more soloable for mages.
Get Jboots and run, that's what I do when root/snare fails...
A note on wisdow.
# Mar 17 2002 at 3:33 AM Rating: Default
Why wis on a pure caster item. Resists. This is what Graffe.com has to say about wisdom.

"Helps us to resist spells cast upon us such as Fear, Charm or any other spell that effects the mind directly. Affects the amount of mana the priest classes have, also rangers; also affects how quickly you can learn many skills if your wisdom is higher than INT."

I hope this helps clear this up. Why anyone would complain about a stat boost in the first place is beyond me.
RE: A note on wisdow.
# Mar 18 2002 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
I'm not sure where Graffe got their info. I went to the site, but saw no explanation other than what you've quoted. The second sentence in the quote seems to be correct and is in accordance with my observations as well as what we hear from VI.

However, this is the only time I've seen any hint that wisdom might affect resists. This seems like the kind of thing that may have been drawn from EQ's D&D roots, but is not actually implemented within EQ.

If there is any truth to this statement, it would have a BIG effect on people's choice of gear. Now, anyone other than wis casters ignore wisdom when configuring for resists. That would change dramatically if this information is correct.

Bottom line: I seriously doubt that wisdom has any effect other than for wis casters and trade skills, but if there is evidence to the contrary, I'd be anxious to see it.

very very nice item..now its made droppable because alot of people will be going in this place tank heavy and not always have a caster with thiem..formeost this place is in no way a stomping ground for farming..no one will be able to solo here..i watched a 60 monk who i personally know is skilled have to run many many times to zone trying to solo..just dont happen here..AS for why is there wisdom on it? why complain its a great boost in stats and wisdom is used for success rates in skills,I.E. casting skill failures or general skill failures and success..and the effect is awsome..as for price range i see these hitting the 10 to 20k mark easily..well till they are nerfed to no drop of course..nothing ever lasts anymore
RE: wow
# Mar 15 2002 at 8:20 PM Rating: Default
Wis doesn't really matter. Verant themselves stated that skills etc. checks on WIS or INT; whichever is the higher.

Good thing for the level 30 wiz I met once who had 198 wis (he was sooo happy getting it close to 200) and 65 int. Bet his manapool was rather tiny though.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 15 2002 at 3:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm all for nerfing but make it no drop and take off the wis which doesn't really matter.

nerf wis
# Mar 15 2002 at 11:36 AM Rating: Decent
I have a couple of somewhat tangential comments. First of all, I also wonder at why VI insists on adding wisdom to items that are for int casters only. My wis is now 117, up from a base of 67. I won't even go into the waste of haste on the Tola robe.

Secondly, as everyone is saying here, I have to wonder about the potemtial for a nerf of this item. I'm thinking of trying to get my guild to help me get this item. If I did get it, and VI then nerfed it to have charges (for instance), it would have been unfair not only to me, but to all of those who had helped me get it. If they were to nerf only the newer drops then it means that I should try as hard as possible to get one now.

I think that VI needs to do a better job of anticipating the effect of items on the game and not nerfing items after they have been released.

Oh! But if they do have to nerf something, how about dropping the wis component? <grin>

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 15 2002 at 2:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Most likely, whoever created this item intended for it to be usable by both int casters and priests. And later someone goofed on the usable classes by forgetting to add the priest classes. So far, all the items I've seen with both +wis and +int have been for int casters and priests.

Mages get root?
# Mar 15 2002 at 10:42 AM Rating: Decent
I have to agree with Tholos. Unless there is a minimum level to cast, this is going to be uber for Mages especially. Isn't the fact that they don't have root a "balance" thing (never played a mage so I can't say for certain, but I think I saw this mentioned on a castersrealm thread recently). If it IS the case that mages don't get root normally, this is unbalancing by definition, even with a level restriction.
WIS
# Mar 15 2002 at 10:13 AM Rating: Decent
Very nice Item here.
Anyhow a little off the subject but why wisdom on this item? Seems VI just slaps WIS and INT on most of these new items then decides later which casting classes can use these. Finding a lot of oddities like this in the cazic stuff. They really rushed changing the zone and made a few mistakes along the way. Then again Im relativly new to the game this might be common.

In my opinion, not that anyone needs it. Great item get it quick, but this item is on the waiting list to get nerfed.

Enstill on a clickable item wow this is an uber twink device.
Where is the matching clickable 500 dot earing that goes on the twinks other ear. (*_^)

This is one of the better peices to drop in the new CT. For those who have not been here but want to post about how "l33t" it is, realize that the agro in CT now is completely hosed. Warrior's can not taunt. SK's and Paly's make better tanks in CT because they can taunt with their spells. This makes root one of the most logical agro control techniques. Enc mezzes, slows (maybe), and roots before mez is broke.

I believe this earring was designed for those that hunt here. VI made a mistake by making it droppable, I'm pretty sure it will get nerfed but who knows. Either way, this is a great mana saver for Enchanters doing Crowd Control in CT (and all caster classes in general).

As a mage i would love this earring. We never get a root spell, except for our pet root. This would allow me greater ease in chain casting pets and be very efficient. I'm not just saying this is a mage item though. it's great for all the classes that can use it so i would expect for no one to be left out of the roll on this fine earring. /drool I wish i had one.

# Mar 14 2002 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
This earing is going to be nerfed so fast that it isn't funny.

Take the Coterie Mask of the Dead as a good example (nec/sk FD mask that originally had infinite charges). This mask was nerfed down to only having 5 charges, even though the two classes that could use it already could cast the spell. Mages can't even cast this spell, but this is useable by them? Watch for the useable classes on this to be changed and for it to go LORE and NO DROP.
RE: Nerf INC
# Mar 14 2002 at 8:24 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah you could give this to any int caster and just have them keep the mob perm rooted for no mana. Also giving mages root is a balancing issue for PvP.

Donal's BP has no recast delay (No items do), it simply puts a buff icon on the player the CH is used on so you can't use it on them again for 7 mins, or whatever the duration is.
